After reviewing the 4 and 5 star reviews I figured I'd go try it out.... I honestly dont know why this is a 4 star establishment. I had the "carne asada" nachos and a "carne asada" taco. There was no seasoning to this meat at all. It looked like chopped up sirloin, but the cheap thinly sliced kind for $5 a pound. Everybody knows GOOD carne asada is Ranchera' cut (skirt steak) and always 'preparada'. Ya, this honkey knows Mexican food! Anyhow.... food quality: it was eatable but they know they could do better. Customer service: for the Abuela (grandmother) at the front desk taking orders, wouldn't engage in conversation and no "your welcome" or even eye contact after saying thank you. For the 16 year old that brought me my food . She was polite. My biggest issue was their "salsa bar"... Most Mexican food joints have carrots, onions, radishes, cilantro, limes, etc... this place will sell you a baggy of carrots for $1. And that's it... nothing else. The salsa was room temp and sitting in what I assume was once ice. The lines were dry and sitting in a sticky syrupy liquid. The nachos were not worth the $10 and neither were the tacos. read more

I come to Texarkana to work once a year and happened upon this place. The food is really good, but I don't understand why the old lady who runs the register hates me. I'd like to give 5 stars, really would. Food is good, portions are huge, I believe it's all cooked to order...but damn it, come on Quasimodo! Decent little fast Mexican place. Hubby had a burrito with a relleno inside, which impressed him to no end. I ordered a plate with one relleno and one enchilada. They were not bad, but the sauce poured on both was so sweet that it almost felt like dessert. I know commercial enchilada sauces have some sugar in them but sugar was the predominant flavor in this one. The pepper was nicely cooked and the cheese seemed to be a high quality, but it hadn't melted at all. I'm confused as to how this relleno was assembled. The refritos were good. I can't believe I'm giving a Mexican place in a strip mall in Texarkana five stars when I only gave Eleven Madison Park four, but they've achieved mastery of their field (which is delicious Mexican food). Vinyl tablecloths, Telemundo blaring from a cathode ray tube television, walls covered with about twenty blurry pictures of dishes featuring what I can only assume are various items covered with lettuce, beans and rice and the ubiquitous Mexican restaurant pennant garlands- check, check, check and double check. So it looks legit. My husband, a Texas native, crossed the Arkansas Texas border and immediately announced "I want Mexican. Not Tex Mex. Real Mexican." Having grown up noshing on deli reubens, pizza, matzo ball soup and corned beef in the far away northeast, I had no idea Tex Mex and Mexican were two different things. Consulting the trusty iPad and my Yelp app, Colimas popped up as the best Mexican spot this side of Dallas. Ohhhkay. I just survived a month in rural India, I'm confident I can eat anything now. We ordered at the counter from a friendly señora, the bill came to $20 for my three carnitas tacos and a bottle of Coke Zero and his beef tostadas, rice and beans plus a glass bottle of Fresca. We picked a slightly sticky table- it was clean, but you know vinyl, it is never not going to be sticky if there's any humidity whatsoever. We grabbed green salsa and a dark red chili sauce from molcajetes on a buffet and the food came out shortly after. I'm a huge fan of carnitas and these were hands down, the best I've ever hard. Giant chunks of perfectly tender pork on soft corn tortillas, served under a ton of fresh veggies and limes. Holy mackerel, I just made myself hungry again. They were so darn good. My husband's dish was equally as fresh and delicious, but his rice and beans might have been the best part. I didn't know simple rice and beans could taste that complex! Wow. I just wish they had flan, I know it would be incredible. Shiesty looking exterior... Gourmet food inside. Even if you're just passing through Texarkana, this is completely worth a stop. read more

So when we first pulled up by looks I wasn't impressed we wanted breakfast tacos and reviews looked good . The breakfast burritos are $9.50 a piece which was shocking but once you receive the order you understand. We usually eat 2 tacos each and we could've split one burrito. Great homemade Mexican food! Love their shrimp and steak burritos, cheap and huge. They are open every day except for Monday, which is convenient, since taco mi pueblo is open only on Sat and Sun. Hubby and I just moved back from Las Vegas, so of course we're spoiled on great Mexican food. I decided to place a to go order based on the awesome reviews: Carne asada fries, adovado torta, and a huge horchata. The carne asada fries were delicious! Meat was very tender and flavorful and the fries were crispy. I also loved their red salsa as it had a very unique, almost citrus flavor with plenty of heat. My husband's torta was also great. The bread was fresh, meat very flavorful, and they definitely don't skimp on portion sizes. The service was wonderful and I love the ambiance of the restaurant, very casual and quaint, and our food was ready very quickly. I can't wait to actually dine in next time! read more

Ate here for the second Saturday in a row--drove in from Arkadelphia, AR. It was more amazing than last weekend! This time had the chimichanga with rice and beans. This is NOT TEMEX! After reading previous reviews I figured I would give Colima's a try. I ordered the Texas Burrito - Chicken and a Chile Relleno - because I had never seen the two combined. It was a great choice. The burrito was almost double what I would find in my local Mexican food shops in California. It was very favorable and every bite had just the right mix of all the ingredients. I was glad they cut it in half because that's all I could get through. Both salsa's are amazing. The red had a rich flavor to it but wasn't too hot. The green packed a little more kick but was also full of flavor. The person at the counter was very nice and it appears it is family run. This is not a fancy place but I've found the best Mexican food comes from "hole in the wall" places or is homemade in my family or friends kitchens. This is a MUST TRY if you love REAL Mexican food. Authentic Mexican food, run by a family from the Mexican state of Colima, where Manzanillo is the main port town. This is a very unpretentious restaurant, situated in a little strip mall on Summerhill Road. One orders at the counter, then one's food is brought to the table. There are only plastic utensils and paper cups for beverages. They do a brisk take-out service. The menu is large and the food is very filling. Travling home to Texas from Kentucky I found this place on yelp. Wanting to try a mom and pop place rather then a chain we stopped here for what we were hoping would be a good find. It was terrible. The food, the quality, the menus, etc. It was around 7pm on a sat night and it was empty. The food menu seemed more suited for a taco truck than a restaurant. I ordered beef fajita tacos. My boyfriend ordered ground beef tacos. We ordered chips and salsa too since it doesn't come with the meal. The food came served in paper trays. The fajita meat was rubbery. My bf's tacos were dripping with grease and the meat was a weird pink color. He couldn't even eat half of one. The chips were hard and greasy (overcooked) and the salsa was okay. For $20 we could've had a feast at Taco Bell and prob enjoyed it more. Very disappointing. read more

Not fancy - a hole-in-the-wall, family place - and I mean that in the best possible way. Definitely not Taco Bell-esque fast food; very traditional. Our group had tacos, carnitas, and mojarra. And yes; the mojarra was a fish cleaned, fried, and served whole, with the head and tail. Sure; that may freak out some Americans who aren't accustomed to knowing where their food comes from. But it was authentic and really tasty with corn tortillas. And they do have a picture of the dish on the wall, if you're paying attention. What a delightful meal! This is a small place in a storefront with only about 10 tables, a menu on the wall behind the order counter, and a TV with Mexican soap opera playing. The food is very reasonably priced and the portions are large. The wet supreme burrito was only $8 and probably weighed about 2 lbs. The pork in my burrito was both crisp and moist, and was seasoned incredibly well. I will definitely return there when I'm in town again. read more
