Angelo's Pizzeria - Half Pepperoni & Half Cheese Pizza

We HAD to stop at the famous Angelo's Pizzeria while visiting Philadelphia! We'd heard all the hype…read moreabout this place being one of the best spots in the city for both cheesesteaks and pizza, and after finally trying it for ourselves, we totally understand why it's so popular! Let's start with the cheesesteak, because WOW, this thing was fantastic! The meat was juicy, the cheese was phenomenal, and the onions were cooked perfectly. Even the bread deserves a shoutout because it was absolutely unreal! Every part of the sandwich came together so well, and it's easy to see why people rave about it. This is what a great cheesesteak should be! We also ordered a cheese pizza, and that was just as impressive. The quality was immediately obvious. The dough and crust were perfectly crispy without having too much flop, the tomato sauce was incredibly flavourful, and the fresh basil was a fantastic addition. Sometimes the simplest pizzas are the best, and Angelo's absolutely nails the basics. Great ingredients, great execution, and incredible flavour! One thing to keep in mind is that you should be prepared to wait in line. This place is famous for a reason, and it definitely draws a crowd. Also, they don't sell pizza by the slice, so if you want to try their pizza, be ready to order a whole pie. It's a straightforward business model, but they execute it exceptionally well. Overall, we can't recommend Angelo's enough! The cheesesteak was incredible, the pizza was top-notch, and everything we tried made it clear why this place has such a reputation. If you're visiting Philadelphia, we absolutely think Angelo's deserves a spot on your must-visit list. Just bring your appetite and be prepared to wait! I believe we got the Ribeye Cheesesteak with onions and peppers, and it was hands down one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. Normally, I'm not a fan of seeded bread and I usually don't like peppers either, but somehow everything worked perfectly together. The creamy cooper American cheese, the soft yet crunchy bread and the thinly sliced ribeye made for such an incredible combination. And much to my surprise the peppers actually added a really nice touch and brought everything together. The portion was absolutely massive, but the flavor was so good that it was hard to stop eating it. Definitely a cheesesteak I'd happily have again!

Big sign upon entry telling you where to go after ordering... I'm not doing that…read more Order, grab a table in the little dining area to the left and wait for your number to be called. Ordered one cheese steak and waffle fries w/ cheese to share and it was MORE than enough for two people. Very good cheese steak, especially the bread, but everything was very salty... Biggest complaint is telling you go up stairs or outside after ordering... no thanks! Also, I went to grab the food and had a weird interaction as they forgot my fries and then I went back to get them and they wanted my name, but they never asked for a name on the order... Then a guy just gave me the rest of my order... Weird. Good food, but strange interactions with staff made it a little unpleasent.

I've only ever ordered takeout from here, but it's been EXCELLENT every time. The kale caesar…read morecutlet is a sandwich I dream of and crave every time I'm away from Philly. The bread is fresh, Caesar dressing is incredibly creamy, and the cutlet is just perfectly crispy and juicy. The order always comes out on time. Even when the shop is bustling with the lunch rush. I'm very impressed with this small space and the volume they're able to churn out.

I came here hearing some decent things about this place. Wow. Exceeded my expectations…read more Cutlets were nice and crisp on both. The bread was a fantastic choice. Not tough but a nice, soft seeded sub roll. Seeing it arrive was a little overwhelming but I kinda thought the thing was light and was easy to finish off 1/2. The Fig and Pig - the fig jam was outstanding. Great sweetness with the saltiness from the prosciutto and then to top it off, the crunch of the cutlets. Excellent. As I was leaving, I saw a cutlet, with mutz, broccoli rabe, and roasted red peppers. I WILL be back for that. That looked amazing. Service was very friendly, prompt. We sat down and within a few minutes, our sandwiches came out. Looks like they were working on takeout / delivery orders and I thought, oh crap, am i behind all of that. But I guess they were either done or they prioritize the tables. Place was small but at 2:30 or so, it had a couple of tables open. They had tables outside but a little warm and in the sun for that. Well done, Liberty Kitchen!

I recently had a couple of great lunches here. I found parking along Wolf Street with no problem…read more The inside was clean and the staff was friendly. They serve you fresh waster (Drinks to order include Hanks, Boylan's, Harney and Sons, Teas etc.) and will serve you at the table or you can walk up and order at the counter. Their menu has a great mix of deli, steak, "chicken" steak, meatball, sausage and cutlet sandwiches with interesting flavor combos. You can also get breakfast (till 11AM) or a salad. They also have sides that include - tots, fried pickle chips, onion rings, fries, fried mozzarella and Zayda's pickle spears, chips and cherry pepper shooters. They have a couple of vegan options and GF rolls for extra $$. The staff was more than happy to give recommendations and their favs. My first lunch was The Eye - $15 Ribeye steak, Cooper Sharp American, fried onions came on a seeded Liscio's roll. If you enjoy the somewhat newer Cooper sharp style that's out there you'll like theirs. The Cooper sharp was gooey, mixed in well with the meat and on the heavier side. The ribeye was thin cut, delicious and the portion was pretty hefty. Second visit I went with - The Nad - $15 Chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, arugula, Mike's Hot Honey that came on an unseeded Liscio's roll. The portion size was good, chicken was fresh with good breading, the hot honey was a tad on the heavy side, but the flavors all came together pretty good on this one. Sweet, salty, light bitterness from the arugula and some heat from the hot honey. I added Thin Cut Idaho fries to make it a combo for $3 extra and I have to say they were delicious. They smelled like McD's and tasted similar. They are cash only, but have an ATM on site. You can use a card if you order online. The one bathroom they have was pretty clean and organized. I will certainly stop back for a visit if I'm in the area to try out more of their menu. Thanks guys!
