Great ice cream, no doubt! Customer service is questionable. Arrived here around 10, waited for 15 minutes. Once we went through the line associates were not willing to make an iced mocha drink since it would be too much work. Not until later on did they decide they could make it. After an afternoon of abusing our skin in the sun, waves and sand the boy and I decided it was time to abuse our tummies as well. When you search ice cream in Corolla about a million places pop up but none seemed to be quite as beloved as Big Buck's. It's four star rating was enough for me! We gassed up the car and drove five minutes down the road to the Timbuck Shopping Village, walked towards the back of the center and up the stairs to a tiny store filled with all things coffee, candy, chocolate and ice cream. It was better than Disneyland itself! We were lucky enough that we did not experience a line so we got a good amount of time to ogle their large selection of homemade ice cream flavors. The boy got for the classic cookies and cream and cookie dough combo but I went for their black cherry chocolate chip and coffee toffee. Their scoops by the way were designed by giants so they are super generous! There is not much room to sit inside the store but the shopping center has a little grove with adirondack chairs, a playground and sand so we indulged there. The ice cream was rich, creamy and obviously very homemade. As others have mentioned there was no ice chips, or weird frozen funky flavors just pure unadultered sugar, cream, and milk. Wow...Homemade cream! Coffee caramel swirl and espresso bean chip are 2 of my favs! As you open the door that wonderful smell of ice cream hits your senses and brings you back to a child hood state of mind. If the ice cream doesn't get to ya the chocolates , or that espresso/coffee bar should. This was okay ice cream for home made ice cream. We ordered the chocolate, cookies and cream and mint chip. The store is a little crowded. There was candy for sale all over the shop for purchase and when I took my 3 year old and 20 month year old it was hard to keep their hands off of it. All of it was expensive and overpriced. Combine one part candy store, one part coffee shop and one part ice cream parlor and you get this spot. You can't even say you are a kid in a candy shop here because it's impossible to limit it to that description. I'm not a fan of coffee of any sort so I cannot tell you about that part. However, in the right conditions, I am a HUGE fan of candy and ice cream. They have all the old school candy you can think of. Rock candy, gummy things, powdery things and it all makes you feel like you are in an old time candy store. I ended up walking away with a bunch of Fun Dips. But that's not the only thing I walked away with. I of course had to get me some ice cream. I mean this stuff was homemade ice cream and who could pass that up. With my dietary restrictions, that was a blessing in disguise. I was in heaven. I had the chocolate chip and was not let down. So glad we came here and not the other ice cream place in the shopping center! This is some of the best ice cream I've ever had period! It was so creamy and the flavors were like BOOM! They have a lot of creative but good flavors! I couldn't decide what I wanted because they were all amazing! They had just as many different kinds of cones as ice cream flavors, I've never seen that before. I was in the mood for expresso chip, the coffee flavor was strong and they weren't skimp on the chocolate chip pieces. My boyfriend got the mint chocolate chip which of course I liked better only because I didn't order it. My brothers Oreo ice cream was dreamy. It comes with 2 scoops so if you can't decide which flavors it's way better to get 2 different flavors, wish I would have known that. This place is tiny but they make a good ice cream! Homemade ice cream. About a dozen or so choices - they are really good and it's just the atmosphere making getting ice cream a fun thing to do. At $4 / scoop it is a little higher. They have a variety of different cones to choose from - although there is an up charge for anything but the basics. Of course there is the old fashion candy and soda to make the experience complete. This is a busy place (even during the off-season) so be prepared to wait a bit. There are only a few tables but most people go outside and hang on the porch. read more

Came to big bucks while spending a week in Corolla. Came here twice, the icecream is really good. Well the soft serve is i cant voche for the other hard icecream but it looked good. As a Tip the cotten candy soft serve is amazing, taste great, while the bubblegum soft serves leaves a taste that is less then desired. I will say, the Espresso Chip has a VERY strong coffee flavor which was a little more for my liking. I'm right down the middle on this place. The line was very long due to COVID precautions inside the shop. Once we got inside the shop, it was clear to see the guy behind the counter was hustling as fast as he possibly could -- and he was truly providing excellent service to every person in line. But the place was woefully understaffed and, as a result, it wasn't very clean. I saw a dead cockroach on the floor under the edge of one of the unused freezer cases. And I did not draw attention to it. I don't know if this place is seasonal or not -- and we were there in October, late in the season -- but it was still extremely busy, with only one employee trying to manage the entire thing. It is a little pricey, but since I don't visit the Outer Banks too often, I didn't mind paying the price. The line was long, but I didn't have anywhere special to be, and the line did move along. I've been coming to Big Bucks for many years as my family has a home in Corolla. I have two things to say. 1. The quality of the ice cream seems to have changed. It's less creamy than it used to be and the flavor is lacking. 2. I understand this is a tourist area, but I got 2 basic small (I'd call them kids sized) cones, one scoop didn't even reach the rim of the cone and I paid $10.57! From someone who lives in NJ, where literally everything is expensive, I get GOOD homemade ice cream with larger portions for less than $3 per cone. The owners should really reconsider their pricing because there are a ton of options around for dessert. read more

Finally the guy, the only nice and competent person behind the counter asked one of the girls to help us as he was with someone. I love this place's vibe! It's a small candy store with tons of retro ads and stuffed animals everywhere. They have tons of different types of candy for sale all over the walls and shelves. It's pretty overwhelming. They make their own ice cream and have a decent coffee bar. If you want decent coffee after 3 PM, Big Buck's is the place to go. This is definitely the place to indulge one's sweet tooth. Their homemade ice cream is very tasty All I tried was the Butter Pecan and it was pretty crucial. Big Buck's also sells candy. +1 Star for having Charleston Chew and 100 Grand candy bars. But the best thing Big Buck's offers is it's homemade chocolate candy. Dear God, this is chocolate at it's finest! Everything we had was rich, buttery, and delicious. Their chocolate/caramel covered pretzels are to die for. Definitely in the discussion for best candy I've ever had. Their nut cups (funny name, right?) have almonds, peanuts, pecans, and macadmia nuts surrounded by rich, creamy dark chocolate. Wow! Their dark chocolate almond clusters and white chocolate covered pretzels are also worth mentioning. A scoop is $4.95 which in my opinion is extremely overpriced for the quality and makes me think the place should be rated $$.
