I drove pretty far and spent quite a bit of time looking for parking to try this place. And it's great. It's not worth the time, the gas, the effort, or the parking. It's definitely worth the wait once you're inside and seeing what a neighborhood institution this place is. Yes, it's inside a corner store, or it is a corner store; but this food place/corner store keeps its neighborhood fed, caffeinated, liquored up, charged, pain relieved, cleaning supplied, and toilet papered. I saw so many people come in and out of here while I was waiting for my falafel wrap. Some of them scared me. Most of them would have scared me back in the day. But I never felt unsafe, because the people who run this place run it. I can't imagine anything bad going down without them taking immediate control of the situation. It was nice to get reintroduced to Oceanview all these years later. I had no idea how close to Cayuga it is. That makes sense, but I hadn't been to Mount Vernon Avenue since probably 2009--2011 at the latest. Walls painted black and scared teenage clerks who have no business doing what they have no business doing. And the mailbox wars. Who am I supposed to talk about these faded memories with now? My falafel wrap was good, and it's pretty cheap. I was craving Mediterranean and was looking to stay close to home when Big Baba Eats popped up on my Yelp search. I tried their chicken shawarma wrap and it was delicious! The wrap came with grilled chicken shawarma, lettuce, tomato, pickles, garlic sauce and hot sauce upon request. All the fillings were delicious and it really hit the spot. I was able to split the wrap into two meals which made it great for the price. On a different occasion I brought my husband to Big Baba Eats, I got the wrap again which was great. He got the Beef Shawarma plate which he was very disappointed with - meat was dry, hummus tasted different, and tabbouleh was not as fresh as he was hoping. Had the chicken shawarma wrap today and it was pretty good! The chicken is moist and their selection of sauces (I think it's two separate sauces?) do a great job of tying the whole wrap together. I'm not normally a fan of this many pickles in my shawarma wraps but the sauce really made it work. It's also pretty large so you will definitely not leave hungry. read more

Since this place is halal I really wanted to like it. The beef sharwma was pressured cooked lamb with no flavor. The wrap look nothing like the photo and has no rice. The lettuce in the wrap is from a salad kit. The chicken wrap was okay, same thing no rice, same lettuce. The fried chicken was also okay with bbq sauce. If the food was at least good, it would get a great review. The people didn't not understand english enough to verbally verify the food was halal when calling but posted the labels of the meat/food at the place to show it was halal. read more

I was looking for a place for a quick lunch. This place was closest to me. I didn't realize until I got there it was also a convenience store. It's clean, organized and well stocked. But the thing that really made this a five start rating was the two guys running the show. The were super nice guys. The owner seemed to know every person that walked through the door and treated everyone like family. I had the chicken shawarma wrap 10/10! The chicken was nice and juicy seasons perfectly, and all the sauces and veggies on there were a perfect ratio. This place isn't in my neighborhood but I'll be going out if my way for this wrap! Is the neighborhood a little sketch? Maybe. But, Big Baba Eats, while may appear to be confused about what their primary menu items should be, it seems they are good at everything they do. I ordered a chicken shawarma and my wife ordered a California pastrami sandwich. Let me tell you what a pleasant surprise it was to get two completely different cuisines done right in the same place. Next time I will need to order a taco, a burrito and some wings. The meal was fantastic and looking forward to eating there again.
