Lamb gyro, too salty. never again. chicken tikka over rice was SO GOOD and very flavorful. $15.49. would definitely buy again. however the price point is quite high to have so little vegetables. the lettuce is like taco bell lettuce. no onion, no tomato. $2 for a pita. that sounds like robbery at a college campus. read more

A bang for your buck ! The halal shop is located on SFSU campus and offers quick , affordable , and tasty Indian cuisine. Although it doesn't look like much from the outside (it's just window service) I was pleasantly surprised with my choice of chicken over rice. The chicken had an abundance of flavor and was hot and fresh. I also enjoyed the sauces , they didn't over power the meal. I'll def be back to try the tikka masala over rice. read more

Wow! I went to SFSU for undergrad and never thought to go here for some strange reason. And now I am back in grad school and was told that this place is great and it absolutely lives up to expectations. I get the chicken tikka masala every time I go and not only is the food hot and delicious, it is also one of the only places on campus that is efficient enough to get through a long line quickly. My plate of food comes with chicken tikka masala, rice, and a small salad and it is only $9.75. How could you not give this place 5 stars?! Great food and great customer service! I wish I could find a place like this near my house because I would eat here all the time. read more

The food here is so good!! And the service is great. I have been missing halal cart in the city and this one but the spot. It's not the same with the yellow rice but they do the salad with the white sauce etc. I got the tikka chicken over rice and highly recommend. wish it was located off campus (I'm not a student so walked on to grab it, it's that good!) and the hours were expanded over the weekend. But I'll take what I can get! read more

We were exploring the Berkeley campus during orientation and came across this Halal Shop food truck. I didn't have any food vouchers because I'm not a student but they were kind enough to offer me a falafel gyro on the house! The falafels were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Very well seasoned too. The fresh crunchy vegetables balanced out the falafels perfectly. To top it off, the pita bread was warm and fluffy. Really delicious gyro and generous people! read more

My favorite place to eat on campus hands down. This is what I would call fast food Indian food but it's worth every penny! I always get the chicken tikka masala with no salad and extra spicy (the spicy sauce is sriracha). And the food includes a drink with the price ($9.75). Came here today and felt soo happy that the Halal Shop is back open after more than a year. This is honestly the best place gyros and plates. The most unique and delicious item on here would be the chicken tikka over rice. Its a one of a kind meal and could not be found at any other shop. The white sauce is also super amazing. I haven't been here since last semester, but I'm so glad I came today!! The worker (working alone around 4:15pm) was super friendly and made my Chicken Tikka perfectly!! They have a rewards system, so if you come here frequently you should definitely sign up! I have 7 points so far and I only need 3 more to get the reward (very excited as I come here quite often, I just forget to enter my rewards). On a tour of SFSU with my students, I stopped by here for lunch based on good Yelp reviews. Ordering was quick, and service was nice at the window. I ended up getting the tikka masala, but was a little bit underwhelmed. I suppose my taste and liking for chicken tikka has been conditioned by the Indian/Pakistani restaurants around my old university, but I felt this tikka masala was a little bit light-tasting. It's a great deal for a college student (under $10 for a meal), but I'd probably pay extra for meat that was more chunky and a more powerful chicken tikka masala taste. Also, not sure if they do this, but if not, it would be great to have naan as an option as well. read more

This is comfort food of the highest order in the tradition of New York City halal food carts. The concept has translated beautifully to California. The true beauty of Halal Shop is that the food is fresh and delicious and served fast so you're not waiting in line forever. I love seeing people of all races and colors enjoying halal food. It's all about meat that was humanely raised and butchered. And there's also plenty of vegetarian options, too. The family are all really friendly and kind. They take service seriously and want you to leave with smile on your face and a fully belly, too. PS Rumor has it Halal Shop will be opening a location at Fisherman's Wharf soon. Can't wait. Simply delicious. In the student center of San Francisco State University. Very generous amount of lamb in a big pita bread that's super soft. Gyro meat? Mmmmm. Very tender with perfect amount of spices. Definitely a repeat if in the area. This is definitely not a grab-n-go dish. The sauce in the gyro is not eat-while-on-the-road type. You walk around campus looking for a deal on foods on the go, you could probably bet your next paycheck that everyone is going to tell you to go to ikes. But eating so much bread for so long gets taste bud numbing....unless its Banh Mi :) 7.50 for chicken marsala w/ sirracha over rice and salad.....a You find me abetter deal on campus for what i am getting, then ill say to you...youre not talking about those mini marts full of subpar sandwiches right? Chicken perfectly cooked and moist sirracha wasn't overpowering, pepsi cola was chilled as can be.... For a cold morning.. This was perfect... Love eating here whenever I'm on campus! The service is fast and the workers are super polite. You can get a full meal for under 10 dollars, and the quantity is more than plenty to fill you up. Chicken tikka over rice is their most popular dish but one of the workers recommended a chicken gyro with tikka and it's amazing. I would definitely recommend it. Hella bomb read more

"If you love something, let it go. If it comes back it's yours forever." Back when I attended UC Davis, I'd go to Shah's all the time. It was a feel good (and affordable) meal for us college students. Long and behold, I was excited to discover that SF State has a Shah's too! I always order the chicken over rice - sometimes non spicy, sometimes spicy. For about $8 you get seasoned red chicken, rice, lettuce and white yogurt sauce. Simple ingredients, generous portions, and it taste amazing! I like mixing them all up together. You also get a free drink with your order. I love Shah's enough to visit the SF State campus even if I'm not a student. Reunited with Shah's and it feels so gooooood. read more

I'm literally writing this review as i am eating my Chicken over rice. This place just opened on Oct 30th, so today is their second day of operation. I'll admit, i was hoping this place was going to be as good as the Halal Guys in NY. They didn't really disappoint me. For 7.50 for portions are still pretty decent. I asked for extra white sauce which which is a yogurt sauce. I normally love white sauce so I enjoyed this very much. However, i felt like they give me too much lettuce, I might ask for less next time because the lettuce I asked for a little hot sauce, which i kind of wish i asked for more because i couldn't really taste it. Oh, all the dishes comes with a drink and you have an option of soda or water. Overall, I enjoyed my dish and i hope to come back for more. read more

Taste wise, it was good. Got the combo gyro and a chicken tikka over rice. The gyro was very soft and fluffy with a good sauce in it. Mixed the lettuce+sauce with chicken+sauce and it was very tasty. For the price though, I expect a lot more in quantity. read more

Food was really good for the price and considering it's on campus! The service was quick which is a plus if you're on the go. I was really surprised with how flavorful the chicken + lamb tikka was. Food I ordered the chicken over rice, spicy with white sauce (~8$) and it was pretty good. It comes half chicken and half like lettuce and sauce. It was a pretty good size but I was unable to finish the portions so I just saved it for later. I also tried the chicken gyro (~8$) my friend got. It was really good with lots of sauce in it. I also ordered a samosa (2$) I've had better samosas but this one was okay. The green cilantro sauce was really good though. Oh and the prices have a drink included which is also a plus! Establishment & Service This is an on campus fast food place at SFSU. The line wasn't too bad and I went around 7pm. The order comes out pretty quickly too! Great service! It's about time that SF State had a halal joint. Every item on the menu except the bottom two items already includes tax and a drink. Good deal! I tried the falafel gyro and the samosa. The samosa is huge and I thought the pricing is decent. The falafel gyro doesn't disappoint me, but i just discovered that I like Falafels a few months ago. It's not too big so it's not too overwhelming. You could also ask for it to be either mild or spicy (but I don't think it's really spicy). This will be good to get for people that observe Lent since falafel isn't meat. They take credit card too, which is a plus! I hope this place stays! read more

Whenever I am in the area doing ride share for students around this campus, I take my break and eat here. I love their Lamb Over Rice and Falafel over rice. You can't go wrong, it's cheap food for high quality taste. My only wish is I hope they open one up in the South Bay, so I can frequent it more often. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and the wait for my food usually isn't long, unless it's a crazy lunch rush, then be prepared to wait a while. But I think it's worth the wait, and I will probably try the Chapli Kabob and Rice next time or a Gyro to compare their Gyro to the ones here in the South Bay. read more

I've been eating here occasionally for the last three years on campus. It used to be better, the lamb gyro used to be so good and so filling. I noticed they have newer people working there but they don't add in as much meat and stuff inside anymore. And the gyros are definitely smaller. Used to be cheaper, and every meal had a free drink. Not anymore though, which is a bummer. I don't think I'll go back since it's been more expensive and less of the meal since before. read more

I'm a big fan of the chicken shawarma--it's really flavorful and hits the spot when it's done right. That said, on a couple of my previous orders the meat was a bit on the dry side, but I still find myself coming back because when it's on point, it's really good. Staff is friendly, and most of the time you can stand on their ledges to eat or sit outside. There were 2 small tables that seat 2-3 per table. Pro tip: ask for the tahini and hot sauce on the side and load it into your wrap--it takes it up a notch.

As for the food, it's safe to say that every dish I had was delicious. The mezze platter is a sample that I would highly recommend you get. The lamb shank was perfectly falling off the bone and the fried branzino was my favorite! It was cooked to perfection with the lemon and herbs on it and the crispy skin. I had their white wine and I loved that on the menu it tells you which wine would pair best with what you order. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and would definitely come back!

My guy ordered this and thought it was average. 3/5 LAMB SHISH KEBAB WRAP ~ this was my dish. I ate one half of the wrap and it only held two cubes of lamb meat. The lettuce and tomatoes made the wrap bland. The meat was seasoned, but everything was plain, so it needed more seasoning. Honestly, this was missing flavor! I'll have to add something to it when I eat the rest of this wrap at home. 2.5/5 HALF ROASTED CHICKEN AND RICE ~ Our friend ordered this dish. It needed more sumac. This tasted like plain roasted chicken. Maybe it needs more seasoning while marinating. It wasn't dry, so that's a relief. Rice was ok and it wasn't dry or soggy. 3.5 We've been spoiled and have had better food in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Nothing stood out for any of us. Prices are a bit high for what you get. Sadly, probably won't be back.

The pickled vegetables are absolutely a must in the rice bowl... the sour helps balance out the rest of the flavours and provides a nice contrast to the heat. Speaking of.... the Shata (chili) sauce packs a PUNCH. This is also some of the best falafel I've had in the city. Would highly recommend!
