    2. Chicken over Rice
    Sophia L.

A bang for your buck ! The halal shop is located on SFSU campus and offers quick , affordable , and tasty Indian cuisine. Although it doesn't look like much from the outside (it's just window service) I was pleasantly surprised with my choice of chicken over rice. The chicken had an abundance of flavor and was hot and fresh. I also enjoyed the sauces , they didn't over power the meal. I'll def be back to try the tikka masala over rice.

We were exploring the Berkeley campus during orientation and came across this Halal Shop food truck. I didn't have any food vouchers because I'm not a student but they were kind enough to offer me a falafel gyro on the house! The falafels were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Very well seasoned too. The fresh crunchy vegetables balanced out the falafels perfectly. To top it off, the pita bread was warm and fluffy. Really delicious gyro and generous people!

My favorite place to eat on campus hands down. This is what I would call fast food Indian food but it's worth every penny! I always get the chicken tikka masala with no salad and extra spicy (the spicy sauce is sriracha). And the food includes a drink with the price ($9.75). If you are looking for a place to eat on campus that has full flavor, amazing food with the right amount of kick then look no further than Halal Shop!

Came here today and felt soo happy that the Halal Shop is back open after more than a year. This is honestly the best place gyros and plates. The most unique and delicious item on here would be the chicken tikka over rice. Its a one of a kind meal and could not be found at any other shop. The white sauce is also super amazing. I will be visiting again!

I haven't been here since last semester, but I'm so glad I came today!! The worker (working alone around 4:15pm) was super friendly and made my Chicken Tikka perfectly!! They have a rewards system, so if you come here frequently you should definitely sign up! I have 7 points so far and I only need 3 more to get the reward (very excited as I come here quite often, I just forget to enter my rewards). I will be coming here more frequently from now on (: Always great quality food at this shop and I highly recommend it to SFSU students or anyone in the area.

Lamb gyro. Big portion filled with generous portion of lamb. $8.40 incl tax+drink.

Simply delicious. In the student center of San Francisco State University. Very generous amount of lamb in a big pita bread that's super soft. Gyro meat? Mmmmm. Very tender with perfect amount of spices. Definitely a repeat if in the area. This is definitely not a grab-n-go dish. The sauce in the gyro is not eat-while-on-the-road type. Your palate will be in 7th heaven while your neat-goddess will not be a happy camper as juices drip all over. Everything under control though! Now, go, have some gyro!

First time and it's so good. it might seem small but it's filling. I like how each component balance each other out.

You walk around campus looking for a deal on foods on the go, you could probably bet your next paycheck that everyone is going to tell you to go to ikes. But eating so much bread for so long gets taste bud numbing....unless its Banh Mi :) 7.50 for chicken marsala w/ sirracha over rice and salad.....a You find me abetter deal on campus for what i am getting, then ill say to you...youre not talking about those mini marts full of subpar sandwiches right? Chicken perfectly cooked and moist sirracha wasn't overpowering, pepsi cola was chilled as can be.... For a cold morning.. This was perfect... Maybe not masterchef perfect presentation but perfect enough that you couldn't complain.

"If you love something, let it go. If it comes back it's yours forever." Back when I attended UC Davis, I'd go to Shah's all the time. It was a feel good (and affordable) meal for us college students. Long and behold, I was excited to discover that SF State has a Shah's too! I always order the chicken over rice - sometimes non spicy, sometimes spicy. For about $8 you get seasoned red chicken, rice, lettuce and white yogurt sauce. Simple ingredients, generous portions, and it taste amazing! I like mixing them all up together. You also get a free drink with your order. I love Shah's enough to visit the SF State campus even if I'm not a student. Reunited with Shah's and it feels so gooooood.

I went there on a Tuesday around 1pm but it was closed. The other stores next to it was closed too.... Are they closed this semester?

I ordered the chicken and beef kabob plate, and while the meat was flavorful, I wish they included more hummus. At around $25- $30 per plate, I expected a more generous portion. I ordered takeout and arrived about an hour later because the app never updated to show my order was ready. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and they didn't start preparing my food until I got there. I mentioned that I had placed the order an hour earlier and expected it to be ready, but the server seemed to brush off my concern, which was disappointing. One highlight was the hot sauce. I'm not sure if it's house-made or not, but it's so good. The pita, however, was a letdown. I prefer my pita soft, fluffy, and warm, but this one was hard and grainy. Overall, it's a cute restaurant with decent food, but it isn't my top choice.

It is not a sit-down restaurant and doesn't pretend to be. What it is, is consistently excellent food at prices that still make sense in a city where that's getting rare. We're regulars, and we usually go on Sunday evenings after my girlfriend gets off work. Falafel wrap and chicken shawarma are our usual order -- the falafel has that crisp-shell, tender-middle thing going, and the wraps are generously built. We've branched out plenty and everything we've tried has been good. The other reason we keep showing up is the people. Turna usually takes our order, and she is genuinely lovely -- friendly in a way that isn't a customer-service script. My girlfriend and I always walk out in a better mood than we walked in with, which is worth a lot. Practical notes: halal, lots of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, open until midnight Fri/Sat, and they cater. Grab some napkins if you're eating the wrap on the move -- it's a big one, and that's a compliment.

I'm a big fan of the chicken shawarma--it's really flavorful and hits the spot when it's done right. That said, on a couple of my previous orders the meat was a bit on the dry side, but I still find myself coming back because when it's on point, it's really good. Staff is friendly, and most of the time you can stand on their ledges to eat or sit outside. There were 2 small tables that seat 2-3 per table. Pro tip: ask for the tahini and hot sauce on the side and load it into your wrap--it takes it up a notch.

When we got there, it was extremely busy inside and outside, but despite the anticipated wait, we were seated within 5 minutes or so. As a heads up, the Cole Valley location is very small. There is seating inside and outside, but it is pretty loud inside (not that it detracted from our meal). We noticed there was a lot of take out orders coming through, so it seems like this place is equally popular for takeout, which makes sense given it's small size (they do not take reservations). We started off with the mezze sampler, which has lebna, muhammara, baba ganoush, hummus, pickles, and falafel. We all loved the sampler, although we noticed it didn't come with a lot of pita bread. Since most of our entrees were also coming with pita bread, it wasn't an issue. I particularly enjoyed the lebna, which was super creamy but had a nice tang that rounded out the flavor. The hummus and baba ganoush were also very good, and the muhammara was rich and had a great flavor. My mom got the falafel platter, my dad got the grilled hanger steak, my partner got the musakhan and I got the chicken shish tawook plate. My mom really enjoyed the falafel platter. It was super loaded with falafel, baba ganoush and hummus. The falafels were really good. They were nicely fried, but still had a soft and tender interior. My dad liked the hanger steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The green zhug sauce was interesting, and the freekeh had a nice nutty and earthy flavor. Our favorites were the musakhan and the chicken shish tawook plate. The musakhan had a really interesting sweet/savory spiced flavor, and was complemented really nicely with the caramelized onions, sumac, pine nuts and toasted pita. The skin had a nice crispness but the chicken was super tender. The chicken shish tawook was definitely my favorite. The chicken had an incredible, charcoal-grilled taste and was super tender without being dry or overcooked at all. This was the best bite I've had all year, and I loved dipping the grilled chicken in the lebna, muhammara, baba ganoush and hummus that remained from our sampler plate. Highly, highly recommend this place. Super reasonable prices for generous portions of super flavorful food. Next time, we'd love to try the lamb shank and branzino.

The food itself was delicious (though sitting outside in the wild made it cool quickly) and I loved the ful and musakhan! They also were kind to bring us extra warm pita. Overall, a hectic memorable adventure for yummy food.

The Stuffed falafel was so good and huge 1 is enough for 2 people. The mosabaha was very refreshing and so good. The meat combo was good overall and everything was very herbally spiced, I wasn't impressed by the lamb tho but the kebab, hummus, and chicken were great! I haven't had Mousakhan before so not sure how it should taste but to me it was sweet and savory with really well cooked chicken.
