First time trying Big Ash Brewing and I was immediately win over. Great idea - get a beer card from the front then simply get yourself a glass, slot your card into whichever beer slot you want and start pouring. What I liked about it is it charges for the exact amount you pour not by Oz as I first thought. Bonus - it was a beautiful late October day and the sun was shining so we the most of the deck. The only disappointment was the "soft" pretzel we ordered - I think they may have found ours at the back of a cupboard somewhere and it had been there a few days ! But the issue was soon cleared up by Scott (one of the guys who float around to help out) by taking off our card. Great job. I'm sure they'll iron out the pretzel issue and any others, it is still early days. Will definitely be back ! Had a fun evening at Big Ash Brewing! Loved the wall of beer taps - great for trying out a bunch of different brews on our own time (vs. flight etc) We had a pizza each, at first thought we'd be sharing or taking home, but in the end both were eaten down to the crumbs. Big Ash Brewery provides a unique self service model to the brewing industry! When entering the location, you are prompted to check in and provide your payment option to the employee. They link your credit card to a card you will use for beer, drinks, and food at the facility. The spot provides an outdoor patio, bar section, and an open cafeteria style seating space. There is plenty of space to hold meetings, events, etc with WiFi available. There is a large projection screen and multiple TVs for sports. The seats are a little tough being that they are blocks of wood and not very comfortable but doesn't hurt the experience. After checking in, you use your card to order. There are two self servicing food stations where you order food. Great concept but these tended to get very crowded upon observation. I would recommend getting more devices (not as practical) or spreading them a little apart. It appeared groups would stand together and decide what to eat so it became overcrowded. For the ones not drinking, they have soda options. The designated driver (DD) option have drinks for free which is a cool concept! It is very kid friendly but there are limited juice options visibly available. If there are options maybe put them on a sign to ask the bar. In addition, there were a lot of people confused on how to use the devices. Maybe put simple instructions to help guide the customers. We ordered two pizzas. We had the Vampire slayer on cauliflower crust and the Za-Preme pizza. The Cauliflower crust was amazing and a great gluten free option. The mix of garlic with cheese provides a palate pleaser. The Za-Preme pizza combo provided a good mix. The crust was doughy and tasty. Can't wait to try more food there! Tons of beer options! All the beers I had were excellent. Pour as much as you want! Love this place! I just tried for the first time and already have plans to go back. This brewery has a self-pour system that allows you to try as many beers as you want and see how much you're pouring/spending as you go. I love that it adds up your tab (food and drink) as you go, so no sticker shock. I recommend the blackberry cobbler sour beer. I got the chicken bacon ranch pizza on multigrain and it was DELICIOUS. Excellent crust and a good topping ratio. A lot of onion, so be aware of that if onion isn't your thing. read more

We hadn't been in a while, but gave it another try and it was such a pleasant experience! We showed up early for trivia to eat and ordered a large salad to share, and the small Cuban pizza and pickle pie pizza. The salad was huge and very fresh plenty to share. The Cuban had tons of meat it was very flavorful literally a Cuban sandwich on pizza crust. The pickle pie pizza was so unique. All I can say is if you like pickles and ranch dressing this is for you! Absolutely delicious! We went outside for trivia ... so fun! It was a beautiful evening ! You should stop in for sure! First time we visited here. We came for a pottery craft night. Great time. Great food. Super large outdoor patio and a porch- both are dog friendly. Shout out to Jack- great smile and so helpful! Hope I remember the second host name, Nick? Wanted a certain pizza but it didn't come up on the interactive ordering screen. Turned out it was removed because they ran out of an ingredient the previous day. It came in but had not been reloaded on menu screen. He made it happen for us. Locally owned establishment. What a GREAT Cincinnati Brewing experience!! Big Ash Brewing is located right between Mt. Lookout and Anderson Township and has the absolute best service as in... you choose and pour your own beer!! The brewery has a long line of tap selections to choose from, you choose and pour your own and pay per ounce! It's a great way to try new flavors and the staff is so great with recommendations. The taps and glasses were all so clean and sanitized and the location was GREAT with social distancing. My FAVORITE part about Big Ash Brewing was the DOG FRIENDLY PATIO! The patio was so large and each table was equipped with a huge umbrella. I actually went in the rain and still had a great time outside with my pup! And most importantly, the beer was delicious! I love the fun and flexibility of the pour your own 28 tap wall. The patio is huge and looks like they are expanding it. The brewer is making some kick ass beer! So glad first of all to see development down in this plaza. And it's a really great place to boot, so kudos! State of the art facility, you can use a card to pay by the liter which means you can drink a half glass of whatever you like or more or less. Standout for me is the Big Ash Backbeat Coffee Blonde. Visited here for the first time on St. Patrick's day. Love the setup. They swipe your cc then give you a card that allows you to pour your own beers. You insert the card into a slot then pour. They have a wide variety of beer styles. I tried several including their kolsch. The beers were all good. Nothing mind blowing but they had at least 12 on tap. The venue is very large and includes a huge outside area. It sits in the parking lot of an old strip mall. Plenty of parking. They don't serve food but had food trucks outside. Good concept, nice interior and quality beer selection. I'd suggest a little more information available for new guests. Nobody mentioned needing a card to order until we were already escorted to the ordering station, which also was not labelled or otherwise identified. Neither was the area to return silverware & dishes. Additionally the kitchen staff decided to argue with my friend over what he ordered but refused to show the ticket to him to verify his pizza was made correctly, it wasnt. I had a great experience. I understand it a new place & growing pains are to be expected. It just might be a little difficult for older customers to figure out coming in off the street without any way to know what's what. read more

Had a wonderful visit to Big Ash on December 28th when we stopped in with a group of 35 during our annual party bus brewery hop! It was wonderful working with Stephanie to plan our stop ahead of time. She is so kind! She got on our party bus to explain the self serve taps. She took our group picture and had a reserved spot waiting for us inside! We preordered our pizzas a few days prior, which were promptly ready for our group to enjoy. The pizzas were fabulous! Finally tried Big Ash Brewing after hearing so many good things. What a disappointment but I might give it another chance as the concept is great. Definitely a place to drink but not necessarily to eat. Food was a major disappointment. The servati's pretzel tasted old and stale. The pizza my husband ordered was decent. I ordered a salad which was wrong the first 3 times. In the fourth time it was correct but had lots of rotten lettuce. It was a Sunday evening but you would think on the fourth try it would at least have good lettuce. The kitchen (on the last try) said it would be taken off our bill but it wasn't until my husband pointed it out to the manager. The male manager was very gracious and apologetic about our problems. However, the female manager acted as if she could have cared less as we left. I would also suggest that the management consider an adult only environment after 8. Given that this is a self-service brewery, it is not ok to have young kids running around the establishment. We had to change tables to avoid being continually bumped into by young kids jumping on chairs and running around (shouldn't the kids be in bed on a school night after 8 rather than running around a brewery?). read more

I had a hard time deciding on a star rating because I felt strongly in opposite directions about various aspects of my visit. I landed on 3 stars because that's average and average certainly isn't bad, and I do plan to return with the hopes things have been smoothed out. We arrived a little after 5PM on a Thursday and were happy the place wasn't too busy. When we walked in, we were greeted and given a quick overview of how the self-serve taps worked. Each party gave our debit/credit card to the cashier to start a tab, and were given a special card that would be used at multiple points of sale inside the brewery. We found an empty spot at the probably 30-40ft bar tables and took turns going to get beers. Upon approaching the taps, you'll notice that there are a variety of styles of glasses at either end, and you can choose whichever one you like, depending on the type of beverage you're pouring or how much of it you want. There are sample size glasses, probably about 3 oz. or there are pint glasses, among others. Each tap has displayed the name of the beer, a little information about it, and the cost per ounce. Once you choose the beer you want, you insert your key card and dispense as much or as little beer as you want. I personally tried 2 beers, the Woody's Wheat and the Pineapple Hula, both were good, neither were great, but there are more I want to try next time. The experience up until now was great and we were looking forward to the rest of our visit, but this is when things took a bit of a turn for us. Big issue #1 is the seating. In the entire restaurant, the only option you have is bar-height seating. This poses a problem for people who don't find this comfortable, be it because of someone's height or being plus size, everyone in my party found the seats to be uncomfortable after a while. If we'd had the option of a regular height table, we probably would have stayed longer and spent more money. That is the biggest glaring issue that will make me second guess whether or not to return. Next issue, while we were given instructions on how the self-serve taps worked, we sat at our table for a very long time wanting to order food before realizing there are no servers. It turns out that to order food, there's another self-service kiosk located at the back of the room with no signage indicating that and no one let us know. That's something that should be mentioned upon arrival while explaining how the taps work or there should be a sign, or even have this printed on the menus on the tables. Once we figured out how to order, our food came out fast and it was good. You'll know your order is ready when the pager thing lights up and vibrates, and you will then make your way to the pickup window. I also like how every time you encounter a point of sale for your key card, it not only tells you how much you're adding to your total, it tells you what your current total is so you can keep an eye on how much you're spending. As far as food goes, I ordered a Servatii's soft pretzel with spicy mustard and a create your own pizza. I was thrilled that they offered vegan mozzarella and my pizza as a whole was very good. Everyone at my table really loved their pizzas. My only issue with the menu is a few of us ordered the pretzels, and while we had the option to leave the pretzel cold, none of us chose that and yet we were all met with room-temp, hard pretzels. We could have walked them back up to the pick up window but by then I don't think any of us cared enough about the pretzels to do that and we all took them home to warm up for a snack later. The last thing of the night that made us all raise an eyebrow is when it was time to close the tab, there was a spot to leave a tip. I am no stranger to tipping those in the service industry and consider myself to be a good tipper, however, I didn't understand tipping in this instance, and not only were tip jars everywhere, the cashier was watching me sign my slip closely, which made me feel pressured to leave a tip when in reality, I had served myself at every point along the way. I think this brewery is on the right track and I hope to return in the coming weeks and update my review with a better rating. read more

We've been coming to Big Ash since they opened and have always had a great experience. Today was rough. Over and hour wait for our food with no explanation. And many of the beers we wanted to try were also out with no explanation. When we finally received our food, it was just not the quality that Big Ash usually delivers. All for over $80. Not sure if they were understaffed or unprepared for Father's Day, but we left quite disappointed. :( read more

Was here a week after opening and I really enjoyed it! The self serve tap is an interesting concept, but it gives you the opportunity to try multiple beers without paying for a full glass since you are charged by the ounce. I also like that they have beers from other local breweries! Big Ash has a coffee flavored blonde ale that was great! The pizza was also delicious and came out super fast. It's nice that swipe card they give you to pay with for beers can also be used to order food. The swipe card is linked to your credit card when you arrive. It's nice to have a brewery out on the east side! The only concern is that there were a lot families with large groups of children. Don't get me wrong, I love kids, but there were some rowdy kiddos running around who weren't being supervised well. I was here at about 5:00pm on a Saturday so it may be a little bit more of an adult crowd later in the evening. Of course that is not on Big Ash and is on parents. What a neat concept! We came in wanting to explore a new brewery and we were delighted by the quick service and instruction on what to do. You receive a card to put everything on your tab and from there you can select small tastes or full pints. You control everything you put in your cup and ultimately what shows up on your tab. We didn't eat lunch but everything on the menu looked tasty. The operation ran the same way with you ordering your own food and then putting it on your card. I'd like to go back and give some things a try! Service was super friendly. We were one of the few in on a Saturday afternoon but I imagine it picks up. I definitely recommend coming at an off time if you are new otherwise I could see it being intimidating if you have never poured your own pint. We plan to return! read more

We went to Big Ash Brewing after hearing a ton about it and although it was a drive from the west side, we really enjoyed it! First of all, I really appreciate the parking situation; it may be surrounded by a mostly empty plaza, but that serves for tons of empty parking spaces even if the place is packed. You can't say that for a lot breweries on a Saturday night. Once inside we found a opposing issue, which was threat there was nowhere for us to sit. Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of seats, but like I said, Saturday night at a brewery. It would be nice if there were more spaces where you could stand and put your beer or snack down on a bar along the wall or a cocktail round, but that's okay. After about thirty minutes we were able to snag a table and with that came the pizza. Now, I'm not trying to be dramatic, but their BBQ Chicken Pizza was the best of its kind that I've ever eaten. I wanted to order a second one once we were done even though I was sufficiently full. We definitely plan on going back to try some more of the pizza! The chips and salsa were also super good and fresh. The beer was good, though I did try many of them, I didn't try anything to write home about. I liked that we could pour our own beers and that when pouring you can see your total tab and how much it's going up as you pour.
