I used Big Al's to move my baby grand piano and they did an excellent job. A friend of mine, who is a piano technician, recommended them, and I can see why. They were very prompt--I received a quote within a day of submitting my request and was able to schedule a time slot. TJ and two other team members communicated with us from the morning, arrived on time, and handled the piano with great professionalism. We had a challenging down hill to navigate, which I felt bad about, but they managed it expertly, all while keeping the mood light with smiles and humor. I couldn't decide on the best angle for placing the piano, but they patiently helped me find the perfect spot. The entire move went smoothly, and I highly recommend them for their skill and professionalism! read more

I would give 0 stars in I could. I have moved over 20 times in my life and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had in every regard. They took 3X as long as predicted, charged over twice as much, and lost my most valuable possessions. To make matters worse, when I talked to the owner, Al Bartley, about where my missing boxes were, he accused me of lying saying he's sure they're at my house. I told him he can come by and search everything, but I wanted to know what facts he had that I didn't have that made him "certain" that my possessions were at my house. Since they used 3 different trucks at different parts of the process, and several movers worked part of the project and then left with a truck, I thought that they may have taken them away by mistake as the boxes missing, all marked "open first" and "fragile" were in the same area when they were moved. On one call trying to track down my missing packages (which included my medications and my hearing aids), the staff hung up with me. I was told I shouldn't have packed medications and they called to tell me so. They did NOT. And, of course, they paid me $60 to cover my losses of over $10K as they said they only owe $0.60/lbs and this is more than the weight of what was lost. PLEASE, PLEASE never use Big Al's Specialty Movers for any move. I can't imagine a worse possible experience than I encountered during and after the move. read more

First of all, we would like to thank Molly Hess for recommending Big Al's Specialty Movers. Dependable, reliable and hard working movers. They did a great job moving my mother in law from point A - to point B. They were respectful of her belongings and of her. Effortless move (for us) = Thank you Jr and Gerold! read more

Wonderful pleasant and efficient crew helped us move plants in large pots. Responsible, reliable and careful! Can't go wrong!

The guys were on time and moved my huge piece with ease! The whole thing was easy and efficient they definitely knew what they were doing!

We hired these guys to move a "VERY Fragile" Baby Grand piano from Half Moon Bay, CA, to Gig Harbor, WA. Believe me when I say we were more than a little concerned for our piano's welfare no matter WHO moved it, but Big Al's was recommended to us. I was amazed at both ends of the journey, watching them work. It wasn't long, and the worry we'd felt about moving our "Baby" to Gig Harbor was gone. Careful, respectful, confident, polite, and they made certain we knew EXACTLY what was happening throughout the entire process. USE THEM!! read more

These guys are ASTOUNDING. In Novembber, 2025, Al (the owner) came to our place and did a walkthrough - estimate. Very personable guy - nice to deal with, and Beth, the office manager, was extremely helpful as well. In Mid-January, 2026, they moved our 2900 sq ft house and 900 sq ft shop in WA to a (downsized) 1900 sq ft house and 1200 sq ft shop in North Idaho. We had them pack everything, and the packing job they did was simply incredible - - Lots of computer gear, delicate dishware and glassware, like-new furniture, lots of glass-framed pictures, some very large, VERY heavy and cumbersome shop machinery and tools. The two desks from my upstairs office each weigh about two tons (slightly exaggerated) and these guys picked them up, turned them 90° to fit through the doors, took them down the stairway (with a 90° turn halfway down) and out the front door, and made it look nearly effortless. Long story shorter, everything got delivered on schedule and in the same condition as when it left WA. Not a single item damaged or broken OR lost ! Simply incredible. Ivan (the move foreman) and all the other guys (Jude, Seth, George, Chris, and Nick) were friendly, competent, and INCREDIBLY STRONG. And the final price came in VERY close to Al's initial estimate. Who could ask for more? Thank you all. read more

A big shout out to Big Al's movers who helped me move my household from Ridgefield to Camas, WA back in the summer. It's a very straightforward local move, but I have a baby grand piano so I did not even look elsewhere as they specialize in moving pianos (plus I wanted to support local business). The entire experience was great - from Big Al himself giving me an estimate, to keeping in contact with the ladies at the office for all the coordination, to the day of our move - everyone was professional. My movers were very courteous, and they took the utmost care of my stuff. I asked Big Al to send me "sumo wrestlers" who are gentle, and that's exactly what I got. Thanks again to everyone at Big Al's. read more

While other companies took a detailed look at what I planned to move, Big Al send simply scan two bedroom unit and when I received the quote, it was absolutely outrageous. They wanted ten grand more than any other company. read more

Our furniture was so damaged when we arrived, no to mention they left a table and 4 chairs upstairs, a recliner in the master. My mistake assuming they moved everything, as it was a large home. When we arrived and opened the trailer, everything could have fit if they had packed it right. In betas, we borrowed a smaller trailer and went from Boise to Vancouver to get what was left. I sent pictures to them and got zero response! read more

These guys are the best! They moved us a few years ago and were great to work with. They were quick, efficient, and took great care of our belongings. I wish I would have used them again for this move. Instead, I hired a different company because the new company was closer to my house. Big mistake! When the new company couldn't move my safe, I had Big Al's come out and their team moved it with no damage to the house. The other company, not only charged double what Big Al's does (hidden fees) but damaged our belongings and padded the bill. I gave Big Al's 5 stars because of their excellent service, care for my home and belongings, and honesty. I recommend them without hesitation. read more

Great experience with Big Al's Specialty Movers as they moved my upright piano from Portland to Seattle. Beth in their office was super responsive and very friendly - she made the booking process easy and filled me with confidence. Al and his team were also awesome when unloading the piano. They were very kind and considerate of our floors and stairs when moving the piano in. I will definitely use them for moves in the future! read more

If you are a single woman you will get charged 150% of what a man or a couple will get charged. I used them for a move with my ex and they were friendly, nice and reasonable. I had them back for a quote and as a single women and the owner was hostile, didn't even speak with me during the walk through for a quote and then quoted me a price 150% over what they charged the first time. I am still in contact with my ex. He used them for his move and his price was not inflated 150%. Clearly the owner does not like or want to do business with women. read more

They were fast, very careful with my items, respectful, and on time. They had reasonable rates, and sent 3 movers as I had heavy equipment to maneuver that required a truck with a lift gate. I will definitely use them again., and I have recommended them to a few friends already. read more

Big Al and his crew just moved a 9-foot tall wood Sasquatch statute into our backyard. Thing weighs over a 1,000 pounds easy. I called around and no one else was willing to take the job on. Quick, priced fairly. Al is cool too. Highly recommend read more

We used Big Als to move from Felida to Vancouver. They were expensive but we thought they would be good. I should have gotten the Insurance to cover the 'stuff' that disappeared in the 20 miles of the move. Alessi, Camapagnolo, an expensive briefcase, a silver bowl, non-replacable bmw books and Leica books,... they knew what they wanted and walked off with only two boxes, but the stuff that was worth walking off with. Go with anyone else and put the money you save into insurance. read more

$823.97 an hour? Hire Big Al's! I hired Big Al's to move my furniture from one part of my house to another as I was having my floors refinished. Al came over and estimated that the move would take 3 to 5 hours. I called to schedule an appointment with Beth. The only day they had available was a Saturday. I was informed that they had a 4-hour minimum on Saturdays. At $167.70 per hour for 3 movers plus other "fees," the charge would be $823.97. Beth told me she could waive the 4-hour minimum, stating that she knew they would make the time up moving my furniture back after my floors were finished. I paid a $400 deposit ($200 for moving out and then back in another day). I thanked her and awaited the move. The movers showed up on time and were professional. They did a great job. When they presented me with the bill, it was $623.97 in addition to the $400 I already paid. I informed the driver that I was told the 4-hour minimum was to be waived, but he didn't know anything about it, so I paid the full invoice assuming that it would be corrected on the move back into the house. And by the way, the move took 1 hour. I called and spoke to Stacy to ask about the incorrect billing, she told me that I had to pay the 4-hour minimum. I objected. She had Al, the owner, call me. I told him what had happened, and he said that they never waive the minimum. I asked him to put Beth on the line with us, but he refused. I stated that my expectations were that they come move my furniture back, and if it took longer than 3 hours, I would pay the balance, but if it were 3 hours or less, I would consider us to be even. Al told me no. Any further work would incur additional charges. They have refunded $200 of the $400 deposit back ($200 deposit for each day) I was charged $823.97 for 3 men's labor for one hour. I have since cancelled using them on the move back into the house. It was my mistake to trust them without getting it in writing. It's sad that a local company can't back up what a long-time representative of the company tells a client. I cannot in good conscience recommend Big Al's Specialty Movers at all. Yes, the movers are great, but their honesty falls short. Very short. read more

How have I not reviewed Big Al's before? Hey...Big Al delivered my baby too =) Not only are they courteous, super friendly, honest.... they worked together with me (in order to pass the savings onto moi) and their own moving schedule to get my lovely and one-of-a-kind Kawai Japanese upright from CA to Portland. Competitive pricing... hello to the big guys from the Islands!!!! You were awesome... my piano was perfectly moved. No issues... lovely. Cannot give them enough accolade. They come highly recommended... from a MTAC Level 10 grad! read more

Big Al delivered my baby! Actually, it took 3 Samoan guys with the biggest muscles I have ever seen and 2 hours of labor to deliver my baby. They handled my baby with care and carried her down 1 flight of stairs and up 2 more flights of stairs where she is now resting beautifully in my living room. So if you want a company to help deliver your baby grand, I highly recommend Big Al's. They gave me a reasonable estimate, showed up promptly, were very careful with my piano and home, and kept their charge true to their estimate. read more

Used them again to move back to our house after our remodel. They moved our Steinway B both times with care. Place it perfectly where I wanted it. I was so pleased with the service I received from Big Al's for moving my piano. They did the job well and for a lower price than anyone else I spoke with. They moved my grand piano twice and also stored it in their storage facility between each move. These guys were great. Was moving from a house to a condo, and they cleared out the house in less than two hours. The move into the condo took even less time, even with steps and moving some stuff upstairs and some downstairs. They had carefully wrapped everything, and all was safely put in place. So it was a very positive experience and couldn't have been happier. read more

Big Al's handled two moves for me, due to the fact that I had a lag between closings. The first crew moved me out of a three-story house using clever ramp locations to save their knees having to go down all three flights of stairs with each load. Brilliant! All of the employees I worked with -- from the office staff to the movers -- were kind, efficient, helpful, and professional. Both moving crews were so careful and fast. I enjoyed working with Big Al's and would not hesitate to book them again. I recommend them to anyone! read more

So to start the sent 4 guys instead if 3 which increased $50 and hour. They said it would be faster but they moved at their own peace. I had 0 boxes so no need for 4th guy. They smoke during breaks in my property and dumped stuff that was inside a desk like trash. I talked to owner and he was not very emphatic with my sutuation. I think guys could ve moved faster and I didnt need an extra guy. Keep your word Al and tell mover to take less/shorter/split breasks please. read more

These guys were absolutely amazing. I had made a poor judgement call, so the duo was in a tough spot holding on to a 300 lb pinball machine in the middle of the stairs that wasn't clearing near the top...they roughed through it and instead of complaining or being unpleasant, they came away joking and in good spirits, even after moving 7 pianos earlier in the day. I really appreciate what they did today. Getting those huge machines up those stairs today meant a lot to me. read more

BEWARE!!! $8,573.97 ESTIMATE BECOMES $11,292.94 FINAL BILL We used Big Al's in 2007 to move from Vancouver to Kelso. We have a large, three panel organ and Al's was recommended as the best in the business for moving organs and pianos. We had a great first experience with them. We did our own packing, but the move cost us $1800. Fast forward to 2018 and we needed to move from Kelso to Eugene, OR. So we called Al's. We needed them to pack this time (we're retired and and don't get around as well as we used to). We were given an estimate to pack and move all of our stuff, including our piano and organ as well as all the living room furniture, patio planters, and a very large train table. We ended up giving away all of those large items except the piano... and our final bill still ended up being almost $3,000 more than it was estimated. How is this possible????? Additionally, we have tried to get them to respond to our complaints for the past two weeks and they continue to tell us they will be in touch next week. They have yet to talk to us. We are retired and on a fixed income, so this bill is not only outrageous it is puts us over a barrel financially. MOVER BEWARE: Do your homework before hand to see what other companies are out there, and if you do go with Big Al's be sure that they sign a contract warranting that the estimate and final bill will be somewhat close! read more

We used this company to load ( just load ) our pod . Everything was packed and boxed up except for large furniture items . Two older guys showed up to load . They were doing a great job until after they came back from lunch . There work became sloppy and worthless .. 550.00 later and they only accept checks only they screwed us over . We could not get the pod door closed because they had large furniture pieces blocking the door rail .. we had to go back and re- do there worthless packing so we could close the door . Let's move forward now ... moved in October .. finally moved in to home in January and pod was delivered . Unloading .. my 2 beautiful leather chairs marked up , scratched up and ruined .. they were not wrapped properly ( we supplied blankets and wrap and they said it was fine ) brand new dresser and 2 night stands .. scratched up - chipped up and ruined they did not wrap it up properly and items were shoved up against dresser and night stand . My mirror was dented in as well . I called the office manager several times with no resolution .. my calls were ignored . I want my 550.00 back . Lousy company - unprofessional movers and not dependable . I had friends warn me not to use this company and I should of listened . I think the D team showed up that day . They were happy to take our money but unwilling to listen - return any phone calls and could careless in correcting the problem . *DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY * unless you want your items damaged and take your money and run . read more

All the 5 star reviews are true. Fantastic experience with a great, hard-working crew. Herman was a complete pro, and managed everyone - including me - with kindness and efficiency. Well, I really like this family business for moving large items quickly and reasonably. They are extremely professional and friendly. Big Al's has moved my piano twice and done an excellent and safe job both times. Yeah, these people will act the exact opposite of that and you will feel comfortable and happy when they depart your home. Call them. read more

We had to move some large equipment from a former business enterprise and called around for movers. Their rate of $125/hour (for 3 people - 2 hour minimum) with no 'travel time' charges was the most reasonable we'd found. They showed on time and ready to work. We found them accommodating and responsive to the needs of the move. They made quick work of it and the unload went well too. $250 to move all that large equipment (about a distance of ~5 miles) was more than reasonable. Very satisfied - well done guys! read more

Alex was extremely courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. We will use Big Al's again.

I was attempting to help a local business during this time when most businesses are down by over 30%. Big Al's must be contrary to every other industry in the world as they are 100% booked for the next three months. Then, they manage to take your deposit. They will not work with you - - there is no flexibility and really don't care about what a customer needs. Then, they take your deposit.
