I bought a self inflating air mattress on line and it was too big for my back packing trip so I wanted to return it.They sent me two emails and 24 advertisements. Then, they said I would get a different email from federal express. The email contained a QR code that was not able to be scanned by me or any local businesses. when I called fedx they said I had to call big 5 but they were at lunch. when I called back the representative was very short and snooty and said she could send me snail mail and it would take two weeks to arrive. I asked for a label by email and she was not coiperative wit my request. I told her the nearest big 5 was over 100 miles away. I had to call PayPal to file a claim. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but my experience at this Big 5 was unacceptable. I had an issue with a product and asked to speak with the manager, whose name I think was Chad. Honestly, I barely remember because his attitude made it clear he couldn't care less about helping customers. He was dismissive, unprofessional, and acted like I was inconveniencing him for simply asking a question. Isn't the whole point of a manager to assist customers when there's a problem? Instead, I got rude responses and eye-rolling like I was asking for the world. All the other employees were very helpful except for this guy. You can tell no one over there likes him. I won't be coming back to this location. If Chad--or whatever his name was--thinks this is acceptable customer service, he's in the wrong line of work. Do better. read more

Im not giving this a 1 star because this review is not on the store itself and its products, rather than on 1 employee's rude behavior. At check out I went to use a coupon, LESLIE went ahead and told me "I'm sorry but we don't accept 3rd party coupons" I asked what do you mean where on the coupon does it show that you do not accept 3rd party coupon, it was a valid coupon with a barcode and expiration date. She then proceeded to in a condescending way say "It's just store policy I'm not going to accept it, would you be paying by card or cash" so I asked her to show me where in the store it say I can't use it. She says "I don't know". I continue to pay for my things and ask for a number I can call to verify that this is true she gives me a store card and says I can go online and look for the info myself. I asked for her name, got my receipt and as I was leaving I turned to see her and her co-worker talking about me. Well now, I called the Corporate to ask if this "POLICY" was true, and surprise surprise ITS NOT TRUE AT ALL. My goodness talk about the worst customer service experience! Esther was obviously hating her presence at her job. I have to give it to her though she was doing her job however, She greeted customers as they entered. But it was THE UTMOST unpleasant forced disingenuine greeting ever. I'm glad I wasn't greeted when I walked in the store. Forced communication because it was unfortunate that she encountered my question. Not returning EVER. Haven't had bad customer service in a minute and my god was this a refresher. I Came to buy swim gear on 04/01/23 . There was 3 employees (young women). These girls CLEARLY didn't want to be there. 1. We asked for help finding a product and verbatim by one of the 3 "although that product says it was delivered to us yesterday. I can't guarantee I will find it for you. I mean, I can call the manager but I'm not guaranteeing I'll find it for you." .... Girl just say you don't want to do your job. As a business owner if I'd seen my employee treat a customer like so....... I need to do a better job at hiring and training. 2. One of the other three was ringing up a customer and was clearly taking longer than she should. I told the 2 other girls. "Hey, can you help your team and help ring up the rest of the customers?" The same girl from the aforementioned "the other register doesn't work!" THE REGISTER WAS ON! I was like "you're kidding right?" We ended up leaving. And let's not forget. #3 . This store has way too low a yelp rating to be honest. Went in to buy some tennis grip just now. the store is clean, organized & easy to find what I want , HUGE selection. I had to spend a few minutes browsing even tho I know what I came for just to check out all the cool stuff. The two guys upfront were very helpful and kind. They told me which other stores had more grip Incase I need more. there was no wait to pay. The price on the Wilson grip I came for is cheaper than amazon. Big 5 isn't a bad chain to frequent, as long as you're not looking for fancy, name-brand sports gear. They offer inexpensive equipment for cost conscious shoppers. Tip: This particular link in the chain is fairly cramped, without a lot of elbow room. You'll find lots of boots and helmets from non-top brands that priced to move. I can't rate this place any higher than two stars because of their poor customer service. I bought a bow and arrow set as a present for my nephew here, and it broke right after I gave it to him. When I tried to return it, they told me that they couldn't help me; they suggested I contact the manufacturer :-( read more

I wish I can rate this a zero star but it's a disgrace to my family just by giving it a one star.The manger refuse service because apparently there was a lot of people inside and they where closing soon. It was just 12:00 and the Manager is gonna stand there and say it's closed after checking the store hours placed outside the door. This Big 5 is mediocre at the best of times. I really hate the layout of the store, it makes no sense. Walk in and you'll be greeted by a strange display of crappy little items like gum, toys, shoe laces etc. That's most likely the only greeting you'll receive here, since the employees are usually far too busy to address customers. Not many stores are as poorly merchandised as this one, it's crowded but not with anything particularly useful. I noticed an abundance of backpacks which were on the same rack as kick boards, cups and tents... Uh...? Now let's talk about the volume of the music. I can't hear over the music they play. Recently I was shopping for fins but I needed a pair in a smaller size. Then the hunt was on, relying only on my eye sight (they deafened me with their obnoxiously loud music) I finally tracked down an employee. I shouted my question and he seemed to understand me, I saw the guy's lips move, but I have no idea what he said. I still go in this Big 5 every so often to see their MLB stuff. I called on my way there to ask about a certain item. I was quickly put on hold by the cashier. I was left on hold till I arrived there. I assumed the cashier was really busy with customers. I walked in with no customer in sight and the cashier was standing far from the phone fixing merchandize. I was furious.. I informed the manager how showed me little action towards the cashier.. Went there today for a gym bag and a pair of shorts. They were helpful but didn't know their products. I was looking for a bag with a shoe compartment, and they said they didn't have any. After looking around in different sections we found an under armour that has it. Overall helpful, friendly...I would recommend this place. I will come back know for more gym clothes. read more

I was waiting to see some bb guns for nephew, granted I was standing in front of the display while 3 employees were in the front counter talking. They do not read minds so i dont blame them and went to talk to one of the employees, a young african american guy. I asked him if he can help me and he didnt acknowledge me he just put his cell phone down and picked up the store phone and requested someone to show up at dept 1. I said thank you and he still didnt say anything and still didnt look at me. I went back to where the guns are and waited( not exaggerating 15 minutes) standing there. A few months ago, I decided I needed more exercise, so I went to my local sporting goods store, which was in this case, this Big 5. The minute I walked in, I was greeted by an incredibly friendly "Hello!" by a cashier girl with a charming smile. I was then approached by a smiling male youth who immediately offered assistance, which I gratefully accepted. Since then, I have visited this Big 5 many times, and have seen many of its employees, all with the same charisma and charm as the first two I encountered. The name tags of the workers show what year they started working at Big 5. I have noticed that many of the workers have not even worked there for a year, judging from the "Serving you since 2015/16". Despite this, the customer service they have provided me has been nothing short of excellent, and they serve with a warm caring that one would only expect a seasoned veteran sales associate to have. Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with this store, and will continue to purchase from them. Some of them of course have some rough edges, but I believe that they are doing a splendid job, and they should continue doing so. read more
