Showed up on a Friday at 8:40pm to buy a few items. Store closes at 9pm. The worker in the photo rushed to lock the doors before we could get to the door 20 minutes before closing, then completely ignored me and 3 other customers as we stood knocking/trying to ask why they were closing so early. Other staff who were up front saw us and rushed to the back of the store. Last I heard, Big 5 wasn't in a position to be turning down customers and closing their doors early just so they can leave early on a Friday. Take your business elsewhere. Won't be back. read more

This is more than just a review. Customers be warned: KEEP RETURN RECEIPTS. Disputed the unposted RETURN with credit card. BIG 5 provided copy of purchase receipt & picture of customer leaving the store with fishing pole. BIG 5 skipped the part when in a matter of minutes, customer turned around, went back in to return the fishing pole. So, this is how DISHONEST BIG 5 win disputed returns. read more

Terrible experience at the Big 5 (Chino, CA). I came in to get an annual saltwater fishing license. The first cashier had trouble navigating the system and kept asking me what type of license I wanted, even after I repeated it multiple times. A second cashier stepped in, confirmed it was for saltwater, then walked away mid-process to help someone else. The first cashier resumed but again asked what type of license I wanted and even asked for my marital status.....something I've never been asked in 20+ years of getting fishing licenses. After nearly 20 minutes, they still issued the wrong license (freshwater). No apologize....just defensiveness. The manager (Michelle, a lot of makeup) stood by the whole time, offered no help, and was sarcastic and dismissive. I won't be coming back to this store or any Big 5. Incredibly frustrated by this business. Seems like sale prices are marked wrong and although they clearly mislabeled something, they blame it on customers moving things around. I went back and forth on what was on sale, comparing sku numbers and pics on the website only for them to switch my to a left handed baseball glove in the end that I will now have to go back and return tomorrow. read more

The girl cashier , long hair, wearing glasses with ton of make up on her face which make her look like a clown was so mean. I went in today with my dad asking a cashier if the store carry badminton. She asked me to o repeat it couple times, she said could not understand what I said so I showed her my phone the pictures of badminton on Amazon. Great Find! Stopped by here Sunday morning after doing errands for my wife. I was Just testing my luck today! Then I found these running shoes for work in size 12 with the color scheme I wanted in store and tried them on in person!! Perfect!! I've been googled and couldn't find these anywhere online from Target, Walmart, Amazon, eBay, Dick's and Nordstrom Racks. Scored these for only $43.08 out the door!! These are very comfy with thick cushioned soles. The sales/cashier Emily was super friendly greeted me at entrance and checked out my purchase. Think I bothered the manager behind the counter in the knife & gun area. I was browsing their knives. Wasn't sure which one I wanted. Asked to look at several. Oh well. I bought one. Came here today around noon. The gentleman working here with the mole was very helpful. Helped us find the correct size for snow bibs, even went around to look for the size we needed. The lady at the register was acting like we were going to steal something, maybe because my husband is African American, she was unpleasant so this 5 stars is definitely not for her. read more

I was there this weekend to purchase a bicycle. The store was empty with customers so the four employees sitting near the entrance discussing school projects outnumbered my wife and me. I asked to see a bicycle that was on display on a shelf nearby, but the only male employee there informed me that the bicycle was tied down with zip ties and he would not show it to me unless I agreed to purchase it first. I was set on purchasing a bicycle so his condition did not matter. Once I agreed, he insisted on discouraging me by warning that I would have to "build" it. Since this did not dissuade me and I brushed off his remark with a simple shoulder shrug, he recommended that I go to a bicycle store instead and even began to provide the location of this store. Needless to say that I did not purchase the bicycle and went elsewhere. Thank you Big 5 for one of the worst customer service experiences! read more

Been living in Chino Hills for over 25 years and go to big five sporting goods once in a while. The other day I went in with my daughter and my grandkids and my daughters certified service animal. My daughter was told that her dog could not be in the store. My daughter told the worker that her dog was a service animal and she said it didn't matter that she still had to take him out of the store. I've been asked manager if she knew that it was the law she could not have my daughters dog removed from the store. She proceeded to tell me that it was their policy and they had a lot of dogs in there that were doing their business on their floor so that they were not allowing dogs in there unless you could carry them, there's no way I'm carrying an 80 pound dog. We left the store and I called my daughters dogs trainer who returned to the store about an hour later with her service dog and was told absolutely nothing. She walked around the store for a while and no one ever told her she had to take the dog out of the store. I'm thinking maybe because my daughter is 14 or I hate to think because of a race issue but sometimes it's hard not to think that way I will be returning to that store and I hope everyone else that goes there gets treated better than I did. read more

Although this location is small and cramped with merchandise, the newer manager, Leonard, is awesome. I searched high and low for ammunition, and this Big 5 was the only store that had it in stock. I spoke to Leonard on the telephone, and he was helpful and friendly. He clearly had experience in the area of ammunition grades. The store seems a little understaffed during peak purchasing periods, but I haven't had an issue with getting help. On another occasion, this Big 5 had a pretty good sale on snowboarding and skiing equipment. We picked up some brand named items for a great price. read more

I don't know what happened here. The service and management used to be great and the amount of product they carry was diverse compared to smaller locations. But now it's unpleasant and no way to run a business. The staff is disrespectful and unknowledgeable about their product. My past 4 times coming here within the past few months have been awful. My first bad experience was when I asked for help looking for specific clothing and was directed to an older woman named Margret that was the cashier. She was very rude and short with her words and made me feel so unwelcome. Not only that, the manager Devin witnessed it and laughed and brushed it off. In fact, he is the main reason for why I will never come back to this location. On multiple occasions from both personal experience and witnessing with other customers, he's been rude, unhelpful, unattentative and instead of being useful and helpful and doing management things he can be found laughing and joking with the other young employees. On my last visit, I asked him for a product and the only answer I received was "we don't have it". And then he continued to talk to the cashier ignoring me. Which I understand if they didn't have the product, but the way he went about talking to me was just rude and wasn't very approachable or customer service oriented. Not only that, I drove to a different big 5 and they did in fact have the item I was looking for, maybe if Devin would've taken a few more seconds to get more insight on what I was looking for, he could've pointed me in the right direction. But instead he turned a cold shoulder and couldn't have cared less. The entire place from cashiers to management is rude and disrespectful. Never would I expect this type of treatment or customer service at a professional establishment, which apparently it isn't. 0 stars. FIVE STARS for this local Big 5 Sporting Goods in Chino Hills. I called early this afternoon asking if they had a Advertised Sale Canopy in stock and spoke to Victor. He put me on a brief hold and came back to the phone within one minute to let me know "yes, we have several in stock" I went in a few hours later and was assisted by Victor who was so courteous and helpful. I ended up purchasing two of them mainly because of the GREAT prices and the service I received. My first impression upon entering the Store was how clean and organized this location is with the aisles being clutter free and easy access to everything I was looking for. I normally frequent the South Bay Store but this location is only a few miles from our home. I also wanted to mention how nice the other two Employees were while ringing me up. Margaret the Cashier and Jude who was kind enough to help me carry a rather heavy item to my Car. LAST, I read some reviews prior to calling and I had some slight reservations but I must say this Chino Hills Store by far exceeded all my expectations. The people who write the few negative reviews are most likely customers who are never satisfied regardless of the good service. REALLY? someone below crying over a $.99 price tag attached to a $12.99 ball and going on a rant. I highly recommend coming here for all your sporting needs, I'm certain you will have a positive experience. I'll make it a point to comeback for any future needs. Keep up the GREAT WORK! read more

The current assistant manager here has no humanity. The hours on yelp were posted wrong, they close half an hour earlier on Sundays now and though there were at least 3 different employees in there shooting the shit and all I had were a generic pair of big 5 brand snow boots to exchange for one size bigger, this guy stood behind the glass telling me he was sorry that I would be in the freezing snow for two weeks with too small boots (leaving in the morning) when he very well could have shown mercy and let me in for just under 2 minutes. No transactions needed to take place. Compassion and reason are what make service great, not turning a blind eye to humanity while clinging to a rule book for the sake of it. Another good customer service experience. I needed help in finding 2 items and Jessica didn't hesitate to assist me. She walked to the aisle and helped me find the items I was looking for.
