Top notch bike shop. They have provided superb service on my bikes over the last decade or so. Ask for Mike or any of the others. Fair prices and lots of free advice. read more

Two issues: Number One: I went in to get a wheel trued. I was quoted a price and when I went back the price was double. I made a small stink and said I was told a price in person and this was not it. I paid and left. I got home and there was a message from the owner who said that I was in fact charged to much and that if I would come back to the store he would give me a refund. I asked why he did not say this while I was in the store and he said "he did not want to embarrass his worker". He would rather make a customer drive back to his store a second time, and lose that customer than simply say........wait for it. "the customer is right". That simple. By the way we are talking about a quoted price of twenty and charged forty. Number two: I swore I would never shop here again. Well, my son's birthday came around and he wanted a BMX bike. Bicycles Etc. was the only store who had it local. I went in and agreed to the price. The salesmen comes back and says that someone put the wrong price on the bike and that the real price was about 40-50 dollars higher. Not even like a actual price tag either, just a new price written down on a scrap piece of paper? I said ok fine because I was in a pinch but how about you throw in a kick stand? The answer I got was Nope sorry, kickstands are 12.00 dollars. I walked out. This time I will not go back no matter what. Every single person I talk to about bikes I recommend shopping someplace else. I ended up driving into the city to buy the same bike. read more

After having bad experience with Spokes Wheaton being unable to convert my road bike (which I bought there) from Tiagra 2x10 to Rival 1x11, Bicycle Etc did much better: They actually helped me doing most of the work myself (that's a good thing), minus the things I did not feel comfortable to do (like bottom bracket and cranks). I had purchased the parts online (not to save money, but to get exactly what I wanted) and they did the difficult work (for which I paid of course) then I did the rest, knowing that they would cover my back if needed. Worked out great, and I feel double good about my new bike setup. read more

I was looking for a particular Cannondale pressure pump that is not common in the area. Customer service was awesome! I didn't get the pump from them but left having had a great experience at the store. read more

My husband called to ask the price to finish installing the brakes on a bike. Basically he had issue attaching one piece of metal and that's it. They told him starting $100. He also said the person was not friendly. Thankully 5 minutes later he got it finished but needless to say we didn't go because the price was astronomical. I wouldn't even pay that to assemble an entire bike let alone attach a cord to a handle on a kids bike. read more

If you thought you could never experience the advantage of small-town life while living in the suburbs, you're wrong. That's just what this bike shop offers. They have great reasonable prices on tune-ups, accessories, etc. They have great service, like the option to pay for your tune-up ahead of time but not have to leave your bike for a week. They call you when your number is up and you can take it in and get it back that day! But the real clincher for me was my experience today. Five minutes into what I planned to be an hourlong ride, my gear cable snapped. I had been having problems with it since the tune-up. So I rode to the bike shop. Got there at 4:55 pm. I told them I think they tightened it too much during the tune-up, but I never called and it's been several months so I figured they wouldn't offer me any sort of guarantee on the work. The cashier remembered me, and the repairman remembered my bike. He said he would give me a new cable and shifter for $10! Sweet! He said I could leave the bike and he could do it in a couple days. Whoa! I had no way home, and I was many miles from home (and it was cold). So he found the part and did the repair right then, while the cashier closed shop. I didn't even realize they close at 5 pm. They stayed about 40 minutes late to fix me up and send me on my way and only charged me $10. Plus, they helped me reminisce about when I bought my bike many years ago. I found out the bike shop where I picked up my now-relic still exists, and so does the drive-in next to it. Based on their recommendation, I'm taking my kids to see an old-fashioned drive-in movie for $5. What a great feeling to know that I'm not just a number, but a customer they care about! read more

I've been here twice. Once to buy a bike and the other to buy an accessory for my new bike. I never ended up buying a new bike here because although I was walking around looking for bikes for 20 minutes, no one approached me. Furthermore, the people who work there were scarce and unapproachable. In a place that charges as much as it does for a bike, the customer service is NOT good. So I went to another bike shop that's a bit further but at least someone came over to help me. The second time I went to this place, I wanted an accessory for my bike. I ended up getting something and my husband did, too. We went to the register and waited....and waited....and waited... The people working there definitely saw us standing there but didn't come over. So my husband finally said "maybe we should go to the back counter where they do service so we could pay"...so we did. So then we stood there for a couple minutes as the workers chatted among themselves. Finally a guy said, "ok you're ready! I'll take you at the register.... This is the service area." The customer service is really horrible here and I will NEVER return. I would rather drive 10 extra minutes and actually get decent customer service. This place is really awful. read more

I called at 5 just when the store was closing. Mike stayed at the store and waited for me so I could buy a $2 bike part. Thank you.

Friendly service but overpriced! I bought two bikes there a couple years ago and brought them in for a tuneup recently which wasn't worth the price I was charged. Look elsewhere for a better deal! read more

Stopped in to shop for a mountain bike. When I parked, there was a family walking out the door with one children's bike in the hands of a father and a second bike that one of the owners or employee was assisting with in carrying out to the family's car. That put an immediate smile on my face because of a few negative reviews I saw regarding customer service. I arrived with my two boys and a friend. The store is clean, well organized and well lit to see what you are looking for on bikes. I was greeted by another gentlemen in the store. I explained to him what my son was looking for in relation to a mountain bike. He went through a lot of details about various models and what options were on each of a few of the selected bikes we were looking at. While some of them were out of our price range, it made my son rethink what he wanted for features on a bike. The impressive hydraulic disc brakes on some models were really nice on the Raleigh's and the Cannondale's. There was a good selection of quality mountain bikes, but most were out of our price range. I'm not down playing the prices because you get what you pay for and if you were to buy one of their bikes it will last you for years. If you buy a bike at Wal-Mart, expect it to last you for a few months. There is a trade off. read more

Being new to the area, we needed to find a bike shop and Bicycles Etc., has filled the bill on numerous occasions. We checked out other bike shops last summer but Martha at Bicycles Etc., is the only one who actually took the time to show and explain the features of various car racks. When we returned to buy it, the salesman carried it to our car, installed it, and made sure we had no questions regarding its use. Since then, we have been back for minor adjustments, tune-ups, and accessory purchases and have received nothing but top-notch consideration and service. We would not take our business to any other bike shop in the area. read more

I've had good service before but when I called today about a broken spoke and was told it would be five days until they could get to it I decided to call around. It is bad for a company to have loyal customers call the competition. I found a place in Naperville that was $5 cheaper and fixed in same day. I figure this place must have more business then they know what to do with so I will give Performance Bicycle a chance. I told Performance Bikes that I had a race in two weeks and they wanted to know if I wanted a loaner wheel for my bike while they were fixing mine. read more

I went in with my wife and two sons looking for bikes for my 6 year old as well as myself and my wife. We were definitely going to buy my son his bike and the wife and I were more interested in looking and maybe buying.( I am in a neck brace so i can not ride at this moment ) after 15 minutes of looking for someone to help us size the bikes we were looking at I spoke with one of the salesmen and told him exactly what we were looking for. A definite bike for my 6 year old and probably 2 more bikes within a couple weeks when I am healed. So I figured I was looking at spending close to 1500 to 2000 grand when all was said and done and possibly all of that today if the price were right. Then after I told him that we would only definitely be buying my sons bike today he said he would be right back and then never came back and starting helping other customers and left the four of us sitting there waiting and I finally left about 5 minutes later. The customer service there is horrible and I found the same exact bike at the Trek Store on Ogden in Downers Grove for 21 or 31 dollars less. As far as this store is concerned I will definitely go somewhere else when i go to buy mine and my wife's bike. These people will never ever get me baack in that store. read more
