Stop by for a late Sunday breakfast. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes. I tell you, if I wanted burnt pancakes, I would've saved my money and made them myself. Didn't wait long for my food, surprisingly since they obviously kept my pancakes on the griddle for too long. But when it did arrive, the waitress just dropped off a plate of pancakes and nothing else. Great dry pancakes. I went to the counter and asked for some syrup. Thankfully they did have some, just not made readily available to patrons. My first bite of pancake was not as burned and it was actually tasty, buttery for sure. It's a shame it couldn't enjoy them fully. Overall, I like the set-up of BGL. It's spacious, well lit and nicely decorated. They also have a private lot which is great. Their sandwiches menu looks interesting as well. Given that they only opened up recently, I'm inclined to give them another try for lunch. Breakfast here, however, is now out of the cards. read more

I will try to be fair with this review. To start, I will acknowledge that the actual location is pretty cool! The ambiance is trendy and the layout is open and airy. Especially on a nice day; the place is breezy and airy. I like the vibe! Every time I visit there is some sort of wait and in my opinion, is caused from a very poor method of expediting food. I feel as though the owner or manager would benefit by exploring new ways of expediting the food and getting the staff on board and trained. Service is very slow for the volume of customers who are waiting. I hear this same opinion from my Nutley neighbors. Their bagels and assortment of cream cheese is pretty good. I have never had an issue with breakfast here. In fact, I enjoy it (as well as the coffee and other drinks). As for the lunch options, that is a different story. I have ordered here on two separate occasions and the food arrives sloppy and cold! To be specific, I just ordered my husband and I chipotle chicken wraps and it was horrible. No taste, completely sloppy and gross. I threw the entire order away. I feel very frustrated as I was looking forward to it! The chicken was fatty and the lettuce was brown. Far too many bad experiences with their lunch options. This is the last time I will give them a chance. If I decide to order again, I will be sticking to bagels from now on and accepting the fact it will take me forever to receive them if I come in person. To conclude, this will not be my first choice in breakfast anymore. However, if management improves the expediting and improves the quality of their lunch wraps, I will try and give this place another chance and continue to shop small. read more

BGL looks like a place you'd find in Williamsburg or Astoria. Love the garage door opening and the industrial seating. It has a great vibe. If I lived close, I'd prob make this my hang out spot. So cute! The cream cheeses are good and they have a large variety. I liked the jalapeño and scallion spreads. Bagels are okay. I took home 6 kinds. I liked the sesame pumpernickel flavor. Some of the bagels were a bit too dense for my liking. And I wish the crust was a bit more crackly and crunchy but I'm a bit of a bagel snob and prefer boiled bagels. Service is friendly. My fiancé and I come to the BGL for breakfast on weekends. On our last visit, we kept it simple with an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, a grilled chicken omelette, and hot chocolates. He wasn't wild about the actual grilled chicken, but he enjoyed the rest of his omelette. Hot chocolate was great, ask them to make yours with milk if that's your preference. There's a parking lot in the back, but BGL is usually packed, so you might have to find street parking if the lot is full. Stopped in here for afternoon coffees to go with a friend and was totally woo-ed by the awesome interior and menu. Definitely going to come back for food, the bagels looked great and there was a lot of seating inside and the space was also very light and airy with a lovely high ceiling so I think it would be nice to sit and eat there. Will update when I try the food! The lattes were both yummy and served in a quick and friendly manner. I got a mocha my friend got a caramel. The espresso flavoring was nice, but I could tell that most of the mocha just tasted like hershey's syrup so it wasn't bad by any standard, but I wish it was a bit less chocolate milky. Very minor complaint though it still tasted great. The prices were also fair, for two 16 oz iced lattes with tax it was like $9 which is what I've come to expect with local coffee places. read more

I guess I qualify as the definition of "insane" because I keep going in expecting a different result. Each time I exit (sadly) saying that I won't come back. I kept going back because it was close my house but after today it's a done deal. The bagels aren't worth the bad service and bad quality of food. The staff collectively seems miserable. I've gone in 6+ times over the course of the last year and either greeted by frowns, miserable staff or/and many many incorrect orders. Today, I ordered 2 bagels and a coffee and all 3 parts were wrong. It wasn't busy either but I drove away prior to realizing. I don't know what the problems are except for either complete disregard for the customer or ego. The bagel was stale as well this morning as well which is absurd considering their main item they sell are....bagels, and it was 7:30am so it wasn't late in the day. Came in Friday morning for the first time around 10:00 am and it was busy! The place itself is beautiful, they did an incredible job on the interior design. The menu is pretty well rounded. We ordered bagels with egg ham/bacon and cheese to go and coffees. They mixed up the bagels but it wasn't a huge issue for us. The type of bagel was just switched (easy mistake). Their bagels taste different, I'm not sure how to describe it. The texture is different than what we are used to. The sandwiches didn't taste bad, but they needed a kick, maybe S+P. I am not sure what kind of cheese they used. We forgot to specify and when we realized it, it was too late. We want to come again for sit down breakfast to see how it is. read more

This has become my favorite place to grab coffee and a bagel on Saturday and Sunday mornings! There's limited seating and it gets busy around 10 o'clock on the weekends, but they do carry out which is great! Prices are reasonable. The aesthetics of this place are so welcoming and inviting. I visited for the first time this morning. I was there pretty early around 6:30 AM. There were only two other customers in the store with me. It seemed to be fairly inefficient in terms of fulfilling orders, but since there were only three of us the impact wasn't huge. I got a breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel and I was pleased with the fillings, but not with the bagel itself. I know that the concept is "New York bagel comes to New Jersey". The service here is SO BAD that I just can't go here anymore. There's no reason why I should be waiting for 20 minutes for two bagels when the place is empty and there's no line. There's no reason why I should watch customers come in after me, order, get their food and leave, while I'm still standing there waiting for a bagel with cream cheese. Yet it happens over and over and over again. I want to support local businesses, but when the business shows such a blatant disregard for the customer they just burn through their chances. They offer things like pancakes, omelets , and funky cream cheeses like s'mores and bacon with cheddar . They also offer lunch sandwiches including such things as sliced steak sandwiches and a Cuban. My order : I started basic before getting adventurous. I ordered a toasted egg bagel with sausage egg cheese and ketchup with a side of caffeine. My sandwich was prepared super quick ( less then 3 mins ) was super hot, cheese melted perfectly and hit the spot . My coffee was good(not sure if they use a local roaster or something generic ) but most importantly piping hot. Bagel shops are a huge thing in the NY Metropolitan area. I always remember in high school that I'd pass by a bagel shop almost every day on the way to school, and would grab a bagel at the various places. I was never a big fan of the taylor ham, egg, ham, and cheese though (yes I'm from North Jersey) until I came across this place. Based on the price and quality at The BGL, I am happy that this place opened up in my hometown. Every time I come home, I always make it a point to visit this place, whether it's by myself or with friends. There are many options here for breakfast: from sweet pancakes, to bagels, to sandwiches; all your cravings are satisified. All in all, I am a big fan of the bagels at The BGL lol. read more
