Follow-Up Review: Beyond Builders' Threats to Remove our Honest Review We are posting this follow-up because Beyond Builders has escalated their unethical actions in response to out truthful review. Rather than addressing the legitimate concerns I raised, they have attempted to pressure me into removing my review through legal threats and financial coercion. Beyond Builders wrote us: "if the negative reviews remain online or you continue with baseless demands, I will immediately revoke the offer and pursue legal remedies, including placing liens on your properties, collection procedures, and seeking damages for defamation." Our resolution demands were straightforward--waiving the remaining balance due to incomplete work, plus reimbursement for damages and the cost of properly finishing the project. Despite Beyond Builders' repeated delays after reaching 95% completion, we even waived the rental losses that should have been compensated. Their unreasonable delays and poor workmanship have caused us significant financial harm. This is a blatant attempt to suppress valid consumer feedback, which is not only unethical but may also violate consumer protection laws. Under the Consumer Review Fairness Act (CRFA) and Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) § 480-2, businesses cannot penalize customers for leaving honest reviews. Furthermore, Beyond Builders misleadingly claims they were offering to waive 5% of the total payment as a resolution. In reality, this 5% was already voided due to their failure to complete the work. The images and reports speak for themselves. we are urging Yelp to review Beyond Builders' conduct and take appropriate action. If Yelp actively filters out fake reviews, it should also investigate businesses that engage in intimidation tactics against dissatisfied customers. If you are considering hiring Beyond Builders, be extremely cautious. Review all available information, and be aware of their history of delays, incomplete work, and attempts to silence honest reviews. Caution: Issues with Beyond Builders - Poor Communication & Project Management Based on our company's experience, we would not recommend Beyond Builders for renovation projects. Throughout our engagement, we encountered significant challenges related to communication, project management, and overall work quality. Concerns Regarding Furniture Orders During the project, we identified discrepancies in the handling of furniture orders. Initially, we received a receipt for two specific sofa beds on December 15th. However, on December 22nd, a different version of the sofas was ordered, and the original order was canceled. This change was not communicated to us at the time, and we only became aware of it later. This raised concerns about transparency in their procurement process. Communication & Project Delays We faced several communication and management issues, including: Lack of Clear Updates: Despite multiple requests, we did not receive consistent progress reports or detailed images of the work. Updates were infrequent and often unclear. Unresolved Issues: A report listing unfinished work was submitted on January 7th, but we did not receive a response for two weeks. When we followed up, we were informed that they were "waiting for a review," though we had not been notified that the project was considered complete. Project Delays: We later discovered that access for their work had expired, causing unnecessary delays--an issue that was not communicated to us in advance. Payment Process Concerns Beyond Builders' approach to payments raised concerns. They requested payments before we could properly review the work and, at times, indicated that work would not proceed unless immediate payments were made, even when key tasks were incomplete. Management & Oversight Challenges We also became aware that the CEO, Victor, and the project manager, Ido, are brothers-in-law. In our experience, when close family members hold key leadership positions within the same company, it can present challenges in ensuring accountability and objective decision-making. Throughout our project, concerns were not always addressed effectively, and oversight appeared to be limited. Workmanship & Quality Concerns The quality of work did not meet our expectations. Several tasks were left incomplete or not executed to the standard we anticipated. While Beyond Builders markets itself as a professional contractor, our experience suggested a lack of attention to detail and a tendency to cut corners. Decision to Discontinue the Project Due to ongoing concerns with communication, management, and overall execution, our company made the decision to end our contract with Beyond Builders and engage a different contractor to complete the remaining work. By that point, 95% of payments had already been made. My experience with Beyond Builders was extremely disappointing from start to finish. Communication throughout the project was awful between the contractors, designer, and project manager. Some days only one contractor would show up, and he did not speak English (which is fine if we know the plan for the day), leaving us with no understanding of what work was being performed or what the plan for the day was. When problems arose, the lead contractor blamed other workers instead of taking responsibility. It became very clear to me that the work was rushed and completed as cheaply and quickly as possible with little concern for the outcome. Many of the things I requested, or was told by the project manager could be done, were later dismissed by the lead contractor and either never completed or simply overlooked. There was a consistent pattern of overpromising and underdelivering with this company from the time we started planning to the time it ended. Corners were constantly cut to save time and money, resulting in sloppy finishes, incomplete work, and repairs that had to be redone later. The quality of work did not match what was promised during the initial discussions, and attention to detail was severely lacking throughout the project. Instead of working collaboratively to solve issues, there always seemed to be excuses, finger-pointing, and attempts to avoid accountability. Another major issue was the crew repeatedly using my personal tools and supplies on multiple occasions without permission, including my shop vacuum, ladder, extension cords, trash bags, and 5-gallon buckets. Workers also smoked inside my garage on an almost daily basis, which was extremely disrespectful. Overall, the experience was frustrating, unprofessional, and far below what anyone should expect when hiring a construction company. I would not recommend Beyond Builders to anyone and have since advised friends on the island who were looking for a reliable and honest company to avoid using them. read more

I needed a total bathroom renovation to update my brothers bathroom to be handicap friendly. His old bathroom was unfit for an elderly person with mobility restrictions. There was a whirlpool bath and the toilet was low to the ground. There was old wall paper and it was dingy. I contacted several places but what drew me to Beyond Builders was their excellent customer service. From the moment I placed the inquiry. They were responsive and detailed. The condo association in the building had many hurdles and they were prepared to jump them. Their price was competitive and reasonable. I was contacted by Avie for my initial estimate and he arrived to the minute of hour appointment. He was pleasant and informative. He gave me a deadline which he would submit the estimate and it was there in half the time. They supplied a designer in the cost that kept me from having to think. She listened to what I wanted, price and gave me the list of things to order. Zia was my contractor and she took care of all communication with the HOA. She kept me updated regularly regarding timeline and last minute decisions. The communication and the kindness was unmeasurable. The timeline they gave me was exact and they finished it as they said to a day early. There were no hidden prices. That was important as this was a fixed budget. When I say reasonable they fell in line with other estimates that let me know there might be additional costs. I paid and that was it. Never a surprise. Before choosing Beyond Builders, I researched over a dozen local companies, and met in person with 6 different contractors. We chose BB because of their prompt & professional communications, friendliness, fair pricing, and can-do attitude. You hear a lot of stories about shady contractors but BB earned our trust over the course of the whole project. Ido was our project manager, and he was very patient about tweaking our contract until we were 100% comfortable with it, and in the end BB honored it to the letter. We worked with Ming & his team to renovate our master bath. Before work was scheduled to start, the old shower pan suddenly gave way and water came pouring through the ceiling of our kitchen! Ido got a plumber to us within the hour and moved up our project start date to begin right away. We gutted the bathroom down to the studs. The BB team carefully protected the rest of our home during the renovations, cleaned up well at the end of each work day, were always polite & respectful of our home, and showed up when they said they would. The BB guys worked so hard all day every day! Of course no project this size ever goes perfectly, but whenever there was an issue, Ido and Ming were very fair and reasonable about correcting mistakes and being adaptable to my many requests. We have worked with many contractors over the years and it was refreshing having someone who was invested in solutions rather than focusing on impossibilities.
