I loved the selections offered here and so did my daughters and granddaughter. Yes, I bought books here and my granddaughter was thrilled. There's a dedicated children's area with nice seating for them. There was a touch of magic there. Kids were happy and couldn't wait to get to the next book. That is what a book store is supposed to be about. I met the owners and both are genuinely nice and they care about their customers and their business. Both are very knowledgeable and more than happy to help in any way. If you're in Denton, you need to drop in and browse around - I bet you walk out with a great book!

However, I don't know if we caught them on a bad day, if their inventory was really low after Indie Bookstore Day the weekend before, or if the stars just weren't aligned that day but the store itself was very empty. The book selection was minimal and the staff was not exactly helpful. Frankly the store felt too big for the minimal amount of books they had. Also customer service was absent that day and after asking some questions to the person at the counter you could tell he just didn't want to be there. The difference in customer interaction between this store and others around Denton was like night and day. Would I come back to Patchouli? Maybe, but it wouldn't be my first stop when visiting Denton.

Jordan Reyes was fabulous, she helped me pick several gifts including olive oil gift baskets, honey, cornbread mixes, candles, coffee beans, and small jelly jars. She was very tolerant of all my questions and very helpful in putting all the goods together for transport. I hope the owner(s) can recognize her customer service skills. They verbally confirmed we paid for those items. When we returned to pick up our items they said we had to pay again! We have the receipt. They are refusing to acknowledge they agreed that we paid for items. We requested video evidence from their cameras proving the clerk didn't handle those items. They refused to prove their case. They are the next lot over from where The Cupboard was and the next street over from Seven Mile Café for reference. They are open 10-6pm on weekdays, 10-4pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. The employee was friendly and let us know more about the business. Everything in the store is either made by them or a local business owner. I love places with this kind of business practice and though it's not a cheap gift shop, the pricing definitely matches the quality of the products. They have a loyalty program- you get a point for every product you purchase. Once you get 10 points, you get a free soap! My mother-in-law and I booked in-person "full readings" after reviewing the services online and feeling excited to do something special together during the holidays. What we walked into instead felt chaotic, invasive, and manipulative from the moment we arrived. There was no real intake, no calm introduction, just a rushed sales pitch of services and prices. I was told to sit in the next room and "play on my phone" while my mother-in-law's reading began. There was zero privacy. We were separated by a thin wall in a shared dining/living space, and I could hear most of what was said. Completely inappropriate and unethical for a service that claims to deal with sensitive spiritual and emotional matters. About five minutes in, a large German shepherd came barreling through the room, barking loudly and running around my mother-in-law. After several shouted attempts to control the dog, it was finally put outside. No warning, no apology. If someone has allergies, anxiety, or trauma involving animals, too bad, apparently. My session didn't improve. It began with a vague breathing exercise and a "wish," led by the daughter, whose name I was never given. I was promised a full reading that included aura, chakra, tarot, palm, and past/present/future life insights. Instead, after a brief palm and tarot reading, I was told I've had a "dark portal" open for most of my life. Conveniently, this terrifying revelation was immediately followed by "but don't worry, I can help you" and a hard pitch for a $900 two-week spiritual program. When I hesitated, the fear-based language intensified. When I declined, I was suddenly done. No aura reading. No chakra assessment. No life insights. I had to ask for the aura reading, and by that point, trust was gone. Meanwhile, my mother-in-law was also pressured into a $500 program and told she had 24 hours to decide. During my session, it was interrupted so the mother could ask the daughter about business cards. That should tell you everything about the priorities here. The most shocking moment came after we both declined. My mother-in-law was told that if money was the issue, she could "just not pay the electric bill this month." That is not spiritual guidance. That is reckless, manipulative, and frankly disturbing. After leaving, we attempted to address our concerns directly and respectfully via text. The response was defensive, dismissive, and ultimately resulted in being ignored entirely. No refund. No accountability. No follow-up. This experience felt less like a spiritual service and more like a fear-based upsell operation conducted in someone's living room with no boundaries, no professionalism, and no ethics. DO NOT VISIT.
