The sausage is sweeter than others (I enjoy this but I know it's not for everyone. The Dutch pancakes are so cute and little, coated in icing sugar, and served with maple syrup on the side to dip. There's a variety of baked goods, food, and drinks to choose from. Their espresso tends to be on the mellower side - I think it's a medium body, mild & balanced, and pairs well with milk. If you're into pour overs, Detour has an incredible selection of their own coffee bean roasts. Not a coffee fan? No problem. I also recommend this spot to pick up the best artisan style sourdough I've had in this area (if you're not close to Dear Grain Commissary in downtown Hamilton). Service wise, the staff was very friendly and polite, although there was a 20 ish minute wait for a seat for 2 and another 25 minute wait to get the food. Granted we did go on a Sunday at 11 am so it was probably the busiest time of the week and the kitchen is perhaps on the smaller side. The ambiance itself is pretty homey, street parking isn't too hard to find. They sell some near merch and also source bread locally from a bakery nearby. Their patio was closed in the winter but definitely seems like a great spot in the summer. Overall, I enjoyed the place. The lack of non pork protein options keeps me away, but should that change, I'd like to revisit the patio in the summer. Should the protein options expand and wait times be reduced on my next visit, I'll be sure to update my review!
