Good quality food. I was happy to find a place with all day breakfast that had a good variety of choices, including some of my all time favourites. The food was not greasy and I asked for hollandaise sauce on the side. This restaurant is cozy and it was quite busy on a Friday morning before the Christmas holidays. It took a while for meals to be served and to get coffee refills so service could be a little better. There weren't enough service staff on the floor. Overall we had a good meal and I wouldn't hesitate to return. read more

Delicious food and great relaxed atmosphere. Whenever I am in the Milton area I come here to eat. The menu has a good variety of options and the food is consistently good. Their sandwiches and salads are flavourful and creative. It's a casual, relaxed place so if you are looking for tablecloths and a fancy dinner, this is not the place. If you want delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere, then I definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

I am so glad we found this place! Cool local atmosphere! I had the crab grilled cheese...omg! It was so good with a side of roasted red pepper tomato soup. My wife had the Mediterranean sandwich with pear and Brie salad. Again this was incredible. My daughter had Mac and cheese which also was incredibly good. My son had a philly cheese steak which I didn't try but he loved. I did try his fries which were also amazing. Highly suggest this place if you are any where in the vicinity for lunch. read more

Appropriately named, "The Bistro on Main" is a cute bistro located on Main Street in Milton. This bistro is different than other eateries since it is cafeteria-style service but with moderately-priced delicious meals. The food was fresh, flavorful, and well-presented. There were gluten free options (even for sandwiches)! As for the bistro itself, the decor was simple and they had comfortable lounge couches by the front window. We had a large group and called ahead to have an area set aside for us. The menu has a great selection of healthy and hearty items at very reasonable prices. There are menus on the tables and a chalkboard displaying brunch specials and other items. Orders and payments are made at the cash register located in the back. Water glasses are on the side and it is self-serve. I opted for a healthy entree and ordered the large sized Fall Harvest Salad. It was HUGE! Mixed greens, buttered pecans, dried cranberries, apples, and salmon. The pecans were salty, sweet, and crunchy and a great combo with the plump cranberries and fresh apples. The salads were priced at $6 for a small, $9 for a large, and you could add blackened chicken or salmon for $3. Fantastic value! I want to come back and try their 5-Cheese mac n' cheese! For $11 dollars they had a version with bacon or with crab meat. Or maybe I'll try the grilled cheese crab melt for $9! Most of the extensive sandwich list ranged from $8 to $9 and came with the option of fries, or sweet potato fries, salad, or rosti. For dipping, they had a house ketchup that was a bit sweeter than usual. Overall, I was very happy with my meal here, especially the way that they handled a large group. Had a nice soup and sandwich lunch here. I'm not giving full stars because the decor of the place leaves something to be desired and I can't say the food completely wowed me. Very chill spot, wasn't busy, service was quite good. The quality is surprisingly good because honestly the place looks like a very run of the mill café. I really enjoyed the soup (red pepper and tomato bisque) and had a club sandwich which was very standard but nice. My son enjoyed the fries (McDonald's type fries - yummy). Their gluten free options are an awesome touch, my husband had a sandwich on gluten free bread and was impressed. Overall, would return if in the area for a quick lunch. I did try the coffee which was fairly disappointing although not terrible. Next time i would probably give their crepes a try as those looked delicious ! read more

New to town so been trying to check out new restaurants. To be honest, name made me underestimate this place..but was definitely surprised! Food was great quality. My brother had the beef dip with frites..delicious!!!! Bread was fresh and everything on the plate was so good. I had the soup and salad..soup of the day (curry pumpkin pear) and spinach salad (pear and Brie) - again awesome! It's order at the counter..which is fine. This place has it all great service, a warm environment, and food that is cooked to order (and perfection) at very reasonable prices. I have come here and handful of times and have always been extremely satisfied. I usually get the roasted red pepper bisque as a side with my meals - it is simply delicious. One standout moment for me at The Bistro On Main was when I came with my family for dinner and I ordered the steak sandwich. When the waitress asked how I would like the meat cooked, I said medium rare. In the back of my mind, I was thinking, it doesn't matter... the cooks are going to overcook it anyways, as this almost always happen when you get a steak sandwich made with really thin meat. However to my surprise, the steak was cooked perfectly medium rare! I couldn't believe it, the steak on my steak sandwich was actually cooked the way I like it! My most recent visit was for lunch today. I had the Club sandwich, with Roasted Red Pepper Bisque. It was beautifully prepared and filled me up for the rest of the afternoon. If you're bringing children with you, make sure they order the Mac N Cheese. It is really tasty and my daughter who is a very picky eater loves it! read more

I get lunch from the Bistro at least once a week. I think that their quality of food is quite high for a Bistro and they have quite a nice variety of lunch sandwiches which you can get with fries, sweet potato fries or a soup. The sandwiches at the Bistro are very well made and tasty. If I had to make one suggestion it would be to keep the prices of the sandwiches where it is right now or lower slightly. If you were to order most of the sandwiches with a soup you are looking at paying around $15+ after tax. Little bit over priced for a quick lunch sandwich and side. Due to the good quality and good service I cannot bring myself to remove a star for the price at this time. read more

I love small towns and Milton downtown has made it to my list. Small roads and rustic houses give it that old town feeling, Bistro on the main is a small place where you first order at the counter and then wait for your food. I had the crab salad sandwich which is basically lump crab meat served over thin crusts. There were three of those and the size of each was a little bigger than to be called a bite size. The crab meat was really good and I loved the sandwich. I might go there again just to eat it again. read more

My sister and I stumbled upon this quaint restaurant by chance and we were so happy that we did! We ordered the spinach salad with brie and pear and blacked chicken, and the bacon mac and cheese. Both dishes were so delicious!! The salad was a very generous portion. The dressing was perfect and didn't drench the spinach. The blacken chicken was done very well. The bacon mac and cheese was just the right amount of creaminess and richness. There wasn't that much bacon in it, but I didn't mind. The only downfall is that the food took about 40 minutes to arrive after we ordered. My sister and I were not in a rush or starving, so it didn't bother us, especially since the food was that delicious. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Milton! read more

We dined here last night. I have been here many times before and have been happy with everything I have tried. Atmosphere- This is a quaint little place with a sitting area complete with couches and reading material right at the front window. The rest of the seating is bench style. There are some pillows but they do not really help comfort wise. There are chairs with these tables as well so I would say pick one of those when you go. You order at the counter at the back and they bring it to the table. There is a self serve water station with glasses ( love it!) Food- My table had the following: 1) split pea and bacon- excellent review. Very tasty and lots of bacon. If you like bacon ( lol.. who doesn't) 2) pear, brie, spinach slad with candied pecans- I have had this every time I have come because it it just that darned fantastic. The dressing is home made fresh, light and sweet and the pecans are so good I wouldl ove to buy a whole can of them to snack on at home. 3) sweet potato fries- crispy and good served with a nice aoli sauce with a tad bit of heat. 4) french fries- just a little thicker and better tasting than McDonalds. 5) phily steak and cheese sandwich- on a panini- Looked, smelled and my friend said tasted delicious with a capital D. 6) chicken BLT- Really good with a nice mayonnaise. 7) Grilled crab and cheese sandwich- Lots of crab + lots of cheese = excellent. For dessert 4 of us shared apple cheddar and caramel crepes( because 1 is really too big to eat alone after a dinner) - Everyone thought this was the erect ending to our meal..Yum Service- I wish this place offered full service but it is what it is. Food is good - but not good enough to justify a 1 hour wait. When we complained we were basically told that it was our fault because frittatas take 20 mins to bake in the oven. So what about the other 40 mins? Wouldn't come back here unless they were dead as the kitchen clearly cannot facilitate a busy brunch crowd. Good luck! read more

Simply put the service is awful. I mean, really not good at all. But the food is quite good. It's funny because the service is so consistently bad that customers come here knowing to expect it. We've actually joked about it with other people sitting there. We all agree, even though the service is a complete joke it's worth coming for the food. Pretty much everyone who comes here goes in with the expectation that the orders will be wrong, or they'll bring out food for 3 people but not the 4th in your party, or bring out the main course before the app... and it'll take forever too...but it'll be good. The systems in place make no sense. Why give everyone a menu but then have them have to come up to the cash to place their order? So a table of 4...everyone has to get up, menus in hand, to order. (Or one person has to have a very good memory and order at the cash on behalf of everyone else, or shout across the room asking the other members in your party what type of bread they want with that, or what drink they want with that, etc.). I have never seen a restaurant hand out menus but not take your order at the table, it's nonsensical. Why do this?? Is it table service or isn't it? Same thing with coffee. You order a coffee, they bring it to you...but you have to get up to put cream and sugar in it. Where's the logic in that?? Why even bring it to me if I still have to get up anyways? And when you order they want you to pay up front before you get your food. Do you not like tips? How can I tip you up front when I don't know what the experience will be. (Well, maybe I *do* know what the experience will be). Nobody does this unless it's fast food. But there is nothing fast about this food, even on days where you're the only customers. Still... we go back. The menu is actually fairly varied and interesting and the prices are reasonable. But they could be so much smarter and think like a customer and double their sales. read more

I was really disappointed with my experience here. We came in for take out, paid about $18 each for a gluten-free sandwich and fries (I was excited for GF veg options, but it was a small enough portion that I was still hungry afterwards, and I'm not a big person), but our server surprised us by putting our food down on the table with the words "Thanks for being so impatient." I've worked in the food industry, and I know, pushy we were not. I get that servers can have bad days, I don't need (passive) aggression with my lunch. Worse though, when I followed up with the owner (?, manager?) all I got from him was excuses. Not a skillful way to run a business. The next day I got lunch from the Pizziaolo down the street for 25% of the cost, the service was friendly and I was much happier. read more

Then I get up to ask if we can be served only to find out that you have to get up to place the order on the counter (I thought I was in a restaurant not McDonald's). The food was amazing!! The bathroom was disgusting and the service the same!! My daughter has an anaphylactic allergy to wheat! We identified the allergy when we arrived! The server a young blonde female was really rude to say the least! At this restaurant you look over the menu and then you proceed to the cash to order! The individual who took our order messed up and forgot to include chicken in my daughters Caesar Salad! When our orders came I told our server that we had ordered a chicken Caesar. She stated ya the guy didn't enter it in your order! My daughter was really hungry so I wanted to give her my meal but I wanted to ensure it was gluten free so I went back up to the cash. I had to deal with miss personality again and I requested her to triple check my order to ensure it was gluten free! She actually said yes you made a big deal about it when you arrived are you kidding me! I replied yes because it is a big deal!! Can you believe it!! Anyway my daughter enjoyed my lunch and we finally received her chicken! Thank goodness it tasted good! My friend and I decided to try this place out for lunch. No one was there to direct us so we stood there a few minutes waiting to be seated. Finally the guy asked us if we wanted to order. The menu is on the blackboards...you order, pay and sit down to wait for your food. We tried the beef dip sandwich and fries. Overall it was very good but the French bread was put on the grill to toast and the edges had a horribly offensive burnt taste. The beef and cheese on the sandwich and dipped in the au jus was very good and the fries were excellent (thin cut and tasted a lot like Mcdonald's fries.) Absolutely no idea why they gave us a side of Thai Sweet Chile sauce??? You'd never put it on your sandwich or dip the fries in it. Perhaps they should switch to plain old ketchup or maybe a garlic aioli would fancy it up. Friendly service and eclectic atmosphere. Go early because it was a packed house and people waited quite a long time for a table. I'd give it a go again for sure! read more
