My husband and I live about 45 minutes outside of Cleveland. We had friends coming into town for a game last Saturday and we wanted to meet up for brunch. We wanted a place that had mimosas and took reservations, which is how we landed at Betts. I was utterly embarrassed to showcase the city by taking our friends to this restaurant, as the service was awful. It took over half an hour to receive the mimosas we ordered, while we sat with cups of melting ice waiting for someone to pour us some water. Ultimately, we had to go to the bar and ask about our drinks, because our server was off cleaning and ignoring our table. The staff member who then delivered the mimosas to us said they were complimentary because our wait was so long. Ordering brought additional irritation as the server failed to mention being out of any dishes until we tried to order them. When our food arrived, it was fine (though overpriced as others mentioned), but nothing special. By the time our check came, we were so ready to get out of there that we paid as fast as we could. It wasn't until we were signing the slips that we saw we were charged for the mimosas. We should have checked before giving our cards. To make matters more annoying and confusing, our waitress gave us two gift cards with the check. At the time, we thought it was a nice gesture on top of the complimentary mimosas for our frustrating experience. Instead, it seems they were provided in place of comping the mimosas, which made us feel more duped than anything. Overall, it was an incredibly disappointing experience made worse knowing the impression we gave our friends who were visiting from out of town. We didn't like the food enough to return and given that we all live in different places, we aren't likely to have the opportunity again any time soon. If we did, we would absolutely choose another restaurant to visit.
We were downtown. I had read reviews, and Betts was good, so on a whim we stopped. Reservations were recommended, but the place wasn't busy so we chose a hightop. There is a full bar and regular tables. The menu has a nice variety. For starters we had the smoked trout, which was nicely presented. We will order that again. Hubs liked how the Wedge salad came with three thick lettuce slices. The grilled chicken on top was good. Could have used a bit more blue cheese, tho. I had the Schnitzel with Spaetzel and Brussels spouts. The Brussels were nothing special. I think they were just roasted in the oven. The three slices of Schnitzel were lightly breaded and very good with the Jalapeño mustard cream on the Spaetzel. Service was good. We will make this our go-to place when eating downtown. So happy we stopped.
I came here with a bit of a negative attitude because, after searching through old menus, I wasn't a big fan of any of their current weekend brunch offerings. But I agreed to get brunch here with a few friends before seeing a show at Playhouse and had to get something! Located inside a nice downtown Cleveland hotel, Betts is a classy restaurant with a nice interior and high prices to match. If you get any of their overpriced drinks or a side or two, you may rack up quite the bill! I decided on getting the somewhat boring "Betts Breakfast," as it was the cheapest thing on the menu and I love turkey sausage. For $15, I got a surprisingly large portion of scrambled eggs, two turkey patties, a thick slice of sourdough toast, and home fries. The best part was the creamy scrambled eggs, shockingly! I did like everything but would have liked the home fries to be seasoned. But I did feel like I was fed well for $15. My friend's $23 salmon eggs benedict was definitely way too expensive for what she got, I'll tell you that! Our waitress was Elizabeth who was kind and efficient. We were in and out in a good time but didn't feel rushed. The bathroom is single occupant only and was nice and clean. Although I shouldn't be surprised, Betts is another place that has that darn 3% card surcharge fee. Overall, I'd be okay with eating here again although I will still try to stay within budget with what I order.
I was a little hesitant about trying this place because of some so-so reviews, but my experience was mostly good! I started off by ordering a Moscow mule that was on special. It was delicious but wasn't served in the classic copper mug it's usually served in. The table next to us ordered the same thing, and theirs was served in a copper mug (not the end of the world, just odd, I guess). For an appetizer, we ordered the French onion dip with chips. It was really good! It tasted like a sophisticated version of chips and dip. For my entrée, I ordered the grilled salmon and substituted the asparagus with broccolini. The salmon was quite delicious, and the broccolini, while a little tough to eat, was delightful as well. If you ask about dessert, they'll name off a list of items. We ended up ordering a cake for two that was very similar to a Ho Ho. The cake was probably my favorite part of our experience. It was so fun and tasty! Now, the thing preventing me from giving this place 5 stars is that our service was SO slow! When I first arrived, the person I came with was late, so I assumed that's why I wasn't getting waited on consistently at the beginning, but the slow service continued the entire time. What's frustrating is that the table next to us seemed to be getting adequate service throughout. My friend and I had tickets to a show at Playhouse Square, and we ended up being late because of how long it took to get the check.
I heard all about Betts but never visited until recently. I was on West 6th for an appointment and considering my brunch options. Betts was the most elevated lunch around. And so, I finally experienced it. AMBIANCE: Restaurant in the heart of downtown Cleveland attached to the Kimpton Schofield Hotel. It's very convenient to enter through the separate entrance and not the hotel. The restaurant has plenty of natural light, ambient lighting, downtown views (of Heinen's building), and trendy private room. The latter has gorgeous greens, floral mural walls, and cute shelves. It's definitely a restaurant you can add to the pages of interior design magazine. It's gorgeous, modern, and spacious. Plenty of seating options are available. For small parties, there are booths, high tops, and tables. For solo diners, take a seat at a marble bar. For large parties, there is a separate event room where you'll feel like you're having your own private dining experience. FOOD/DRINKS: The menu is uncomplicated, one page, one for each - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Basic menu categories like starters, soups and salads, sandwiches, and entrees are available. I ordered a hearty lunch on a winter day - Lamb Stew ($24) and coffee ($4.50, refillable). Lamb Stew included a generous serving and was extremely delicious. The meat was very tender accompanied by potatoes and veggies. It has some very smooth, buttery undertones which I loved. It might be the best stew I tried in Cleveland. I was also very impressed by the coffee. It was very smooth and pleasant. I drank multiple cups. Be aware that 3% convenience fee will be added to your bill for credit card bill. SERVICE: I was greeted multiple times upon entering the space - once by the hotel employee and then restaurant employees. I felt very welcome! The service was initially delayed due to no dedicated bartender. After the service started, I was very happy with the attentiveness and friendliness. They really have a great staff that seems to work together well, have fun, and help each other. My waiter Dawud was very friendly. VALUE: Few ways to save are available. Happy Hour is available Monday through Friday, 3-6 PM. On Wednesday, you can get 1/2 price off wine bottles. They also have Loyalty Program but I'm not sure what it entails. I was very happy with my experience at Betts. It's a way better dining experience than at an average hotel restaurant. The lamb stew is a dish I'd have again and again. I very much look forward to my next visit.
For brunch, lunch or dinner Betts should be on your list! The food is excellent with lots of different options. The service is great with a super friendly team. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with plenty of seating. If you're going for dinner you absolutely need to get the short rib-- it's excellent. Be sure to check out their drink menu for lots of fun cocktails. They also have half price bottles of wine on Wednesdays so you really can't go wrong at Betts!
HH is decent! We come here when we stay here. Staff is friendly but not open late, prices a bit steep for what this is.
This was part of a hotel and was towards the left upon entering. It was a nice sized location with a good-sized bar present too. The menu had a number of intriguing options to choose from. The service was alright. They did not come back to refill waters often. I went with the large, chopped salad. It came with romaine lettuce, pickled red onion, egg, tomato, chickpeas and a buttermilk blue cheese dressing. It was not too bad. I wish there were more chickpeas present as well as the onions being sliced rather than being so big. Some onions were sliced, but others too big. There was a great amount of the blue cheese dressing, and all the flavors just blended well together. Everything appeared very fresh too. I also tried the shrimp and grits. The grits were sweet, but the homemade sauce that was on the side was a nice compliment to them. The poblano relish was tasty too. Will I go back? I suppose.
I was promptly seated and greeted by staff. They provided me with a few recommendations as I've never been to Bett's. I had the Hanger Steak which was cooked to perfection and a signature cocktail. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was great, I felt right at home and had a few staff come by to say hello and ask how I was going. Overall it was a great stay and I'll be back soon.
Restaurant inside Kimpton hotel. Very friendly and attentive service by Bianca. We had French Toast and Egg & Steak. Both were excellent and tasty. Not cheap, but solid breakfast in nice sit down restaurant.
I love staying at The Kimpton Schofield hotel and this restaurant is located inside. Things I've loved in the past are their great happy hour, local juices, and vegan options. Things I've not loved in the past are hit or miss service, slow service, sometimes poorly made drinks (which I solved by ordering beer or wine). Today's breakfast made me change my good prior reviews based on a negative experience. Two of us dined for breakfast and reviewed the latest menu noticing they clearly call out vegan, vegetarian options. Love that this restaurant still gets it and offers options for all eaters. We place our order with a very kind and competent female server (who appeared to be the manager on staff). Ordered two grapefruit juices, an avocado toast, and chilaquiles (both vegan which just means egg and cheese out/tofu instead). Juices weren't anything special nor fresh. I suggest getting the Anna's Raw juices instead. Meals came out. The tofu on the avocado toast looked grilled. Nice, but still had no flavor. The chilaquiles had goat cheese sprinkled all over the top. I confirmed this was indeed cheese with our server and she asked the kitchen to remake it. They did and it came out pretty quickly with sliced tofu (not grilled, just plain tofu out of the box). No problem as I'm hungry. Take a few bites and still taste the goat cheese. This was my most unfavorite cheese when I used to eat dairy, so I know what it tastes like. I poke around on the plate and see they've left me a small stash of cheese under the bottom tortilla. Not cool. Didn't eat the meal. What a waste. Suggestions for this restaurant if they're listening: In addition to paying attention to the customer's order, I'd recommend doing something with the tofu. You're subbing it for scrambled eggs. Mash it up and make it scrambled. Put black salt on it... pepper, some onion and garlic powder, turmeric, and nutritional yeast. Tofu tastes like nothing if you put nothing on it, so change that. Would they serve a scrambled egg with no spices/salt/pepper? Yuck if so. The only reason for two stars versus one is they have other vegan options. The Caesar used to be great. Not sure if I'd eat here again though.
Took first come/first serve seats at bar. Waited about ten minutes before anyone talked to us for beverage orders. Got coffee and water. Despite being there for more than an hour and a half for our meal, no more coffee or water would be forthcoming. This did allow us to notice coffee ground sludge at the bottom of the coffee cup. Weird and kind of gross. Finally ordered. Notified a few minutes later they were out of sausage, so bacon for us. We ordered it extra crispy, came looking like it was fresh out of the package, almost uncooked. No joke. White strips of bacon. We ate (leaving bacon untouched) finished, and then waited for a check. We had taken our seats at around 9am; we were now worrying we were going to be late for our 11am hotel check out. We've been here many times before because we love the Kimpton, but this lobby restaurant experience was a complete bust. Go to Addy's, go to Yours Truly, go to Double Nickel. Hell, go to Starbuck's. For a $50 breakfast for two, you expect to get good service and decent food. Sadly on this go round, we got neither. (We still tipped well...I'm a sucker for Labor Day.)
The service is really what made it special. It was pretty empty so We were able to get a nice corner seat outside. Waitress was funny and accommodating . Food was pretty good. Nothing spectacular but worth coming back. Worth noting that those fries pictured was actually amazing!

Stopped by for breakfast and had a lovely experience! COVID19 SAFETY MEASURES: Safety & health were top priority with temperature checks at the entry, indoor tables/bar stools separated by plexiglass, and socially distanced outdoor patio tables. All the staff wore masks, and there was hand sanitizer readily available. All the patrons followed the rules as well, and everyone was made to feel very comfortable. FOOD & ATMOSPHERE: I loved the laid-back, clean modern vibe of the restaurant (and the hotel in general). There were a few patrons there already for breakfast, and we were seated at a table inside. The menu is full of healthy and hearty options. I had a almond milk latte to start and then had the AM Power Bowl with a side of chicken chorizo. The portion size of the bowl was pretty large, and I loved that the dish was full of tender roasted veggies. Of course, runny yolks from the over-easy eggs are always a highlight to any breakfast/brunch dish in my book . The others in my party had the Goop-lette and the carrot cake oatmeal, both of which were enjoyed! Betts was so good, we ate there for breakfast two days in a row! The staff are youthful, friendly, and very willing to help. I look forward to returning here again soon, including for dinner! read more

The cutest spot in downtown! Downtown has needed a revamp for trendy spots that aren't ridiculously expensive for a verrrrrry long time. Ohio city, lakewood, and tremont kill it in this aspect and there is none of that in the actual city itself! This is finally the spot we needed. The breakfast was phenomenal, and my whole party got the ranchero bennys which was a total mash of yumminess! (my suggestion is to add their hot sauce, because it was slightly bland but once the hot sauce was added it was the breakfast of my dreams!) The service was great, the mimosa carafe was perfect, the spot was a great size and I'm surprised it wasn't more packed for a weekend spot! If you're a 20 something who is looking for living the New York City lifestyle in the homey city of Cleveland, this is your restaurant. Also can their interior designer hit me up? Looking to redo my apartment exactly like Betts. read more

The restaurant was very beautiful and looked upscale, it was also decorated tastefully for the holidays. Our service was fast and helpful. My table ordered the falafel pita, the 'Murica bowl, and the Harissa chicken pita (not pictured). We were all pleased with our food, however some items seem very pricey for what they are - namely the bowls which have a base price around $16 plus an additional $7 to add a protein option. However, I am pleased that they do offer a number of vegetarian options. It was nice to have more than one choice! read more

A bit overpriced for the food. I think something got messed up with my takeout order as my quinoa tabbouleh ended up missing the herbs and spinach and was just quinoa, dressing, sliced cucumbers, feta and a lot of pickled onions for $13...eek. The flavor was good but to me the price wasn't justified with the ingredients and prep. Asked for a partial refund for the missing ingredients and was told no The Bolognese was a great portion for the price $18 but was a bit heavy handed with the fresh herbs. The rest of the menu looks good but the price would be more justifiable with the ambiance of the restaurant but too steep for carry out alone, especially with the lack of customer service to address the issue I reported. read more
Excellent breakfast place. Casual but classy. Laid back vibe with quick and competent service. Friendly staff that was helpful and seemed like they enjoyed being there. The food was very tasty and came out hot and as ordered. I made a reservation and we were seated immediately. It was a bit noisy but that's the nature of the layout and matches the energy of the place. Would definitely return next time we are in Cleveland. read more

Came here with friends for brunch & it was great but not like AMAZING. We had an awesome server & ordered mimosas. I love that they give you a bottle of champagne because you can make your own ratio & the champagne wasn't just andre. I got the bagel sammie & it was awesome. The garlic aioli just hit right. A little too heavy on the argula but still great. I would definitely come here again. read more

At first glance, the dinner menu seems like an odd mix of health conscious grain bowls/salads, burgers and traditional American-inspired dishes. We started with an order of the beet hummus and whipped feta dip (our favorite of the two). We followed up with the Market Plate and opted for the chef's catch, which was walpole that night. Everything was as expected, tasty, fresh and enjoyed a couple of dirty martinis to go with the meal. Surprisingly the portions were large, so be prepared to possibly take leftovers home. Great place for a dinner date or special occasion. read more
I had a good brunch experience though things took a little bit longer than expected. The whole experience was rather leisurely; it's not that one particular part of the meal took longer than it should have. The pretzel appetizer was a good starter selection. The pretzels were a bit dense in texture but they were still very good in flavor. The two sauces they were served with were polar opposites but both very good in their own right And unique compared to any sauce I've been served with a pretzel in recent memory. The menu is very large; there were a lot of options for brunch. I got the Ranchero Bennys. If you are thinking eggs Benedict from that menu name this would be a deconstructed eggs Benedict. It was more resembling a skillet but on a normal plate. I really liked everything - all the flavors went well together even though it wasn't the presentation I was expecting. The American pie cocktail was also very good. It was fruit forward and smooth. read more

Came here with a friend today. Heard a lot about the harvest bowl so I ordered it. I think it was overhyped. I would recommend trying the crispy chicken if you like chicken. The guy at the front who helped us get to a table was really rude. If you're going to be rude, don't do it in front of your customers. Other than that, the live music was a vibe and the place had nice decor Way too pricey for what it's worth read more

Tried this place for the first time Friday night and I was impressed. The whole process started a couple weeks in advance. I saw an article last year about the greenhouses they installed outside for private dining in this pandemic reality. I made a mental note to give them a try. My best friend's birthday seemed the perfect time. I called to make a reservation two weeks ahead. The process was painless. They did take a credit card number "in case I was a no show". I'm not sure if this is just because I was reserving a greenhouse. They also called the day before to confirm. I was already informed of all the parking options at the time of making the reservation. I ended up in a nearby garage because it was unusually busy downtown. The greenhouse itself was done beautifully. A simple table for two with clear lights and most importantly a heater that we controlled. All of the staff we encountered were top notch. Professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. For the food, we had a bottle of rosé, a beautifully done cup of coconut curry soup, the surf and turf entree (cooked to perfect medium temperature), and the duck and cover entree. This was rounded out with creme brûlée for the birthday girl. Everything was cooked to perfection. One note for the duck, the dish has a sweetness to it. If you are one of those people who do not believe meat should be sweet, this is not for you. I enjoyed it. Will be back soon! read more

I had a great experience at Betts! Service was great and I would recommend if you are already downtown. The avocado toast was good. We went to Betts for date night! And wow was it cute! We ate in one of the greenhouses and it was so fun! They are warm you don't need to worry about that. The menu looked so good Em we couldn't decided want we wanted so we split a bunch of appetizers and sides. The best thing we ate was the Mac and cheese hands down. We will be back very soon for round two so we can try more! See ya soon Betts! read more
Amazingly remodeled new concept at the Schofield Hotel with a refreshing American menu concept. The entire interior has been remodeled with a very open and bright dining area. There is also an intimate and cozy back room which would be perfect for a table of two or can be closed off for a decent sized party. Outside dining is also an option with several tables lining E. 9th street along the restaurants front windows. The food, drinks and service were impeccable. Vanessa was extremely attentive but gave us our time/space to look over the menu and made sure our courses were served with appropriate timing. Perfectly made old fashioned cocktails, spritzers, and a nice selection of wine by the glass made for well paired pre, and during dinner drinks. Highly recommended apps are the quinoa/polenta fries (a really fresh take on actual fries and, I think, vegan) and the "2 legit 2 dip" which includes a feta dip and a beet hummus. Both were surprisingly light but so full of flavor. Between a small group of us we had the salmon, Tokyo bowl (add steak) and the pappardelle Bolognese. The salmon was cooked to perfection with a tasty Asian sauce and veggies. The Tokyo bowl was veggie noodles and chopped vegetables and the steak was a perfect medium rare. The Bolognese reminded me of nana's all-day sauce cooking accompanied by fresh Ohio City Pasta. Everything had such great flavor and tasted fresh and original. We finished dinner sharing the chocolate/sea salt/caramel tart and the crème brûlée. Both so delicious (even tho we were so full from the great dinner). Overall, a really fantastic experience from staff, to decor, to food and drinks. This was a much needed new concept/menu in the area. The menu also caters to pretty much any diet/dietary restrictions. Thanks for the great night out! read more
Loved this spot for a brunchy/boozy Sunday funday! It's located right in the Schofield hotel which draws a lot of the guests from there and the 9 across the street, but is also a nice option for downtown residents to grab a bite to eat. Ambience- very upbeat, modern, city vibes. The tables are well spaced out and I loved that the dining room was constructed with plexiglass in between all of the booths/tables etc. We sat at the bar and there were sleek looking dividers every 3 chairs, such that after awhile you don't even notice that its setup with social distancing in mind. They even have a patio right outside on 9th street for those who prefer outdoor dining. Service- the staff is great and makes you feel very welcome. The bartender was friendly and prompt with her service. No complaints here. Food- the cocktail selection was great, they have a wide range of liquors. They even have a nitro cold brew on tap in addition to several beers which was nice. I had the breakfast sammie which was egg/cheese/greens on an everything bagel and flavored nicely with an aioli. My husband had the two egg breakfast which he enjoyed. Overall the value is pretty good I would say, the food did come out a bit cold but overall the setting/menu options were good enough that I'll definitely be back. Love to see that downtown Cleveland has a few new restaurants options opening despite the recession we're in, this is definitely a must visit! read more

The bartender Chelsea was great and charming. The food was so bad I thought that maybe I was being pranked. I'm not sure if they had a backup cook on a Monday night in January, but it was really, really (really) bad. After two attempts at different inedible soups (the manager agreed), my "roasted cauliflower pasta" arrived. My bartender agreed there was no evident cauliflower (not to mention the horrible sauce without it, that tasted like my 6th-grade attempts at spicing up a jar of tomato sauce with a ton of oregano). She was told that the cauliflower was "riced." Neither one of us could locate it. I paid for the drinks and rolled the dice on whatever other place was open. It was seriously one of the worst attempts at a meal I have ever experienced. I am NOT that picky. I wanted to at least like it. I tried. read more
