I purchased two bone-in ribeye steaks over the holidays from Better Meat. Before purchasing I spoke with one of the butchers explaining that I needed two 2 inch thick bone in ribeyes to reverse sear them. Because of COVID protocols, I was met out front of the shop with the ribeyes already packaged when I needed to pay, so I wasn't able to check them out until I got home. This wasn't a concern, as the combined steaks seemed plenty thick. It turns out the two steaks completely differed in width, one far thinner than the other. Having both steaks the same width was important for how I intended on cooking them. Unfortunately the shop was closed by the time I discovered this, and I needed to cook them that night. When I pay close to $100 dollars for two steaks from a butcher, I don't expect to have to worry about such a basic consistency issue (photo attached). read more

I was trying to find a source for veal sweetbreads and came across this store or butcher shop Easy to find and almost drove by as located strictly in a residential neighborhood And entering it was more than low key but the two staff greeted me warmly. The whole operation reminded me of small local butcher shops found at home in the upper Midwest or small towns in SK or MB where there only might be a small butcher store or Chinese restaurant for locals At any rate I got a couple of one pound packages of veal sweetbreads and the price was great Staff was more than friendly and polite I am anxious to go back and maybe try some of their ribeyes At home in Minnesota veal sweetbreads are so hard to find this indeed was a welcome find. I called in to order a prime rib 6 days before Christmas and was worried I wouldn't be able to get one but it wasn't an issue. They asked if I wanted it seasoned or unseasoned and I chose seasoned which was perfectly seasoned. Everyone that worked there was super nice and the prime rib roast had great flavor. A classic butcher shop. Plenty of help so I didn't have to wait at all. I ordered 4 steaks and they were cut exactly how I wanted them. The quality of the meat is up there. It's a bit spendy but you get what you pay for. I saw somebody pick up some nice marrow bones and a bag of nice looking meat scraps. I do believe I'll be surprising my dog the next time I go in there. read more

I had no idea how *quality* meat from a butcher can be and cheaper or the same price as Safeway. I thought it would be prohibitively expensive or too bougie for me. Neither were the case. I've getting my meat here for most of quarantine and now don't even feel like looking at the meat section of the grocery store and I'm really happy with that. Long gone are the days of buying discount meat in bulk at Costco, or buying chicken/steak from the grocery store. The kalbi that I get from Better Meat has a thicker cut than Costco/H Mart/99/AFC and it looks way more fresh (the grocery store kind looks a bit brown and dry to me, whereas Better Meat is actually just...better lol). I also used to get ground beef in bulk at Costco. Even just the ground beef at Better Meat was a lot more aromatic and flavorful. It even has a different texture. Their thick cut bacon is also incredible. I started cooking a batch and putting them in my salad throughout the week. ProTip: call and ask for a menu via email. There's such a huge selection, and it's opened up such a big world of cooking for me! They've got so many cuts of beef and pork, a sausage list, seafood like cod, salmon, prawns, scallops, smoked meats, lamb, veal, duck, etc etc. For Covid protocols, call in and place an order via phone. They'll call you when your order is ready, you call back when you arrive, and an employee in a mask will bring out your order. I appreciate these protocols very much. read more

No wonder this place got all the 5 stars, not only the meat is great quality, the service is excellent! I am looking for some sliced lamb shank for hot pot (shabu shabu), and the meat needs to be sliced very thin. Stopped by around 2:30 and upon arriving, I was greeted with a super clean counter and a man with a big smile. I told the gentleman what I needed and he said no problem - went into the freezer and found exactly what I need. He then proceeded to hand cut the meat for me. Cutting unfrozen meat thin is extremely difficult, especially to the thickness of suitable for shabu shabu. I felt guilty asking him for this task but the gentleman did it with a great smile. He also told me that next time, just call ahead and they would have the meat ready for me. Like I said, great price and excellent service. Thank you so much. Went in right before Xmas and they were clearly busy cutting up roasts, etc., but everyone stopped and talked to me like an old friend. My grandfather was a butcher, and this is what I imagine his shop was like in the 40s or 50s. No display cases, just guys cutting up and wrapping meat to order. Such a great shop. I have been looking for a butcher shop for a while to get better quality steaks to cook on dinner nights. Came in and met Mike and he was super nice and informative. He asked us what we were looking for and even added suggestions to cook the meat that we bought. We stood around and talked for a little bit about the business and how they are doing in the pandemic. I will definitely come back to buy some other cuts of steaks to test them out. We got some Picanha which we have only had at Fogo De Chao. Thanks for making my experience awesome! read more

Bought here burgers, hot dogs, steaks, turkey, and chicken. The butcher was knowledgeable, curtious, and his assistant confirmed on the phone that they don't just take phone in orders and you can totaly drop in to get your meat; however, its best to call first since the general public hours are limited. While I was there his regulars came in to get supplies for the weekend, they did not call their orders ahead. I already cooked all the meat and it was all delicious, localy grown and the chicken organic. Those were the best burgers I ever had. Folks came in to get meat for their dogs too.
