My girlfriend, little brother and I were waiting for our food from Eggslut (right next to this butcher shop in the same buidling), and since there were no open seats, we stood near the butcher shop's display case. A group had been standing in the exact same spot just before us, so we didn't think we were in anyone's way. We also didn't realize this area belonged to the butcher shop. My little brother briefly leaned back against the display case, and the owner immediately snapped: "Do me a favor and get your butt off my case." My brother got off the case right away, but the owner continued muttering "fucking rude" and then started shooing us away, literally saying "Get." like we were animals. We stepped aside, but he kept staring us down. When my girlfriend asked, "What are you looking at? What do you want us to do?" he escalated things further and said something like: "Do you want me to come find your house?" which felt completely unnecessary and threatening. Like what??!? Saying that to not just to my girlfriend, but a anyone is crazy. This wasn't just a reminder about his equipment, it was the tone, the hostility, and the lack of basic respect. We were simply waiting for our food, causing no trouble, and were met with aggression from the owner for no reason. Beware of this behavior when you step anywhere near his business, especially families and POC. Eggslut employees also mentioned that he is a "serious" person. Maybe he is salty that people are only coming inside for Eggslut, not to buy his meat...unfortunate.

Pricey, but efficient. I found RSM after searching for a butcher to buy a filet for a beef wellington. Found the staff super knowledgeable and helpful. The location was super fun with lots of other shops in the same building. I will say the price was a bit steep but it was worth it!

Where do I start? I'm so jazzed to finally find a decent local butcher shop that loves meat and butchery, understands it and works with local farmers to preserve and maintain quality. The flavors from their 3 weeks dry aged ribeye was incredible. They also teach butchery classes, and built a wonderful local community around meat & butchery, including whole animal butchery, which I appreciate and support. Their prices are set accordingly, so expect high quality meat, perfectly cut and handled, in a tiny and friendly local shop. It can't get more Seattle than this. Highly recommend, also order ahead!

I love shopping with Rain Shadow and thought that since I'm always bragging about them to my friends, I may as well brag about them here. Nothing but quality here--the only concern you should have is if you have an adequate pan and the patience to cook the ginormous cut of meet you're going to be bringing home (to combat both issues, follow my guidance and remove the rib from the chop. This allowed me to fit it all in my favorite pan, and the rib provided a snack while I eagerly awaited my meal). Service is fast and to the point, and prices are comparable to the grocer for many products. Of course you're going to pay more if you're looking for the upper echelon cuts, but if you're someone who seeks to source their products responsibly without breaking the bank--they will always have something for you here, too. I walked out with a pound and a half of pork and a pound of Delmonico steak from Painted Hills Farms for around $30, and that's going to last me all week. Keep up the good work!

Delmonico from this place is an absolute treat. I have tried delmonico from other butchers... Just no!

Quality meats. I don't shop anywhere else for a good steak. And when the quality is this good, it's honestly better than most restaurants even just with a simple sous vide and cast iron!

Rain Shadow was a very pleasant surprise. Excellent customer service and nice selection of quality meats, housemade sausages, and more. Painted Hills Farms & Gleason Ranch Beef. You won't be disappointed

We recently started going to one of their locations outside of Seattle whenever we were in the area. The service remains flawless. It's one of the few butcher shops that consistently deserves a tip but they are always a bit extra! This week, we did a perfect surf & turf : wagyu steak and Chilean sea bass - complete with accompaniments. The fish was flaky and the steak was perfectly seasoned, seared and medium rare. As I was setting up drinks, I was the last one at the table. The steaks were sitting there and everyone had stopped eating. When I asked how it was, I was told "Try it, tell us what you think". I sliced into the steak. It looked amazing. I bit in. BUT afte a chew, I stopped eating it. The beef was definitely 'off' andd spoiled - which explained why no one was eating it. Fortunately, it was surf & turf night so we still had enough to eat. But after paying wagyu prices and lovingly cooking the steak, the disappointment was beyond words. Obviously I will call the store as I want to make sure they pull the remaining inventory from theirr display. At this point, my husband is worried as he had three bites as he presumed the aftertaste was from the truffle sauce I had drizzled. Now, he's worried that he will get sick. I guess time will tell. So FYI --- make sure you check the original dates of the meat before they cut/vaccum seal. Long story short - I hope they read this and review their QA processs to ensure all meats are dated/rotated/stored.

We ordered the Meatball Sub and Eggplant Sub with marinara sauce. Both sandwiches were flavorful and satisfying. The meatball sub was hearty and comforting, while the eggplant sub had a rich marinara sauce that worked well with the sandwich. We were especially disappointed that the Cubano was sold out, as it was one of the main reasons we stopped by. The only drawback was the price--at around $20 per sandwich, it felt a bit expensive for what you get, especially considering it was just a 6-inch sub, even though the quality was good. We visited during a FIFA World Cup match, so the line was quite long, but it moved steadily and efficiently. No complaints there. The atmosphere is casual and straightforward, with indoor seating only. Its downtown location near the stadiums makes it a convenient spot for a quick meal before or after an event. Overall, a good sandwich shop with quality food, though the pricing keeps it from being a must-visit. I'd still come back to finally try that Cubano.

Bonus: this spot is kosher! Potato Latkes (5/5): These latkes are thick boys and fried up so they're piping hot when they hit the table. Because of their size, you really get the contrast of the hard crunch on the outside with super fluffy potato inside. So good we immediately turned around and ordered more. Chocolate Babka (2/5): This was truly the only miss I've had here. Unfortunately, the babka just really dries out after it's been sliced, which is a shame because it's just gorgeous with generous swirls of chocolate inside. Reuben (5/5): I really thought their pastrami couldn't be beat, but the brisket is dare I say better? Just as tender and feels a bit less fatty, so it's a little more crushable. Tip: go for the seeded rye over the marbled rye; something about the marbled rye just falls apart a bit more with the juices of the meat, though it's still delicious! Black & White Cookies (4/5): I expected this to be cloyingly sweet, but this was actually scrumptious with some fresh lemon flavor in the cookie itself. Absolutely massive as well.

Do you happen to live in Washington and miss said pastrami sando? My friend, I have good news for you. Dingfelder's pastrami is a dead ringer for that sandwich: huge slices of melt-in-your-mouth pastrami, regular and half sour pickles, and all the other accoutrements you'd expect from a legit Jewish deli. This place doesn't screw around. If you want a great, hearty, flavor-packed sandwich, this is one of the best places to throw your money. But, as others have pointed out, it's no cheap date: expect to pay over $20 for one of those mighty pastrami sandwiches. This isn't Subway so you're not saving money by eating here, but after one bite of their pastrami you'll understand why you're paying so much. Quality isn't cheap. I'd say this place is tied with Tat's Deli for the best sandwiches in Seattle.
