As an out-of-state visitor who comes for Musikfest, it's always nice to drop by the Diner for some good comfort food. This is a standard big dinner which big portions and a bigger menu. With such a big menu, you'll sometimes find something they don't excel at, but everything I've had here has always been excellent. Today, I had a steak wrap with fries and I added their AYCE soup and salad bar. The salad was so-so but the soups were hot and delicious. One of the busiest diners in the Lehigh valley. It's rare to see the parking lot less than 3/4 full. The main reason, I came to discover, is the price. Everything is really inexpensive. It's like the 99 cent store of diners. Pancakes, eggs, nothing special but, again, cheap. Typical diner food. Type of place with professional waitresses. It's an experience. Felt very 1970s. I did see the waitress poor old coffee, from a mug, into a new coffee pot. We ordered haddock and got something different it was circles of something and very mushy didn't eat it so she charged me for the salad bar and all I had from there was a teaspoon beets a small amount of lettuce 5 tomatoes and 3 croutons and she charged me $12.95 for the salad bar but didn't charge me for the what she called haddock which wasn't I eat it all the time and this wasnt flaky or had no fish taste just mushy stuff I wouldn't eat! The Bethlehem Diner is located off the airport exit, directly across from the Valley Plaza. It's located in the same complex as the Econo Lodge and Denny's. Parking shouldn't be an issue. Interior has plenty of seating and when you walk in, cakes are in the rotating display. Menu is surprisingly large and they serve all day breakfast. I ordered the Turkey dinner that came with the salad bar and my friend ordered a hamburger and fries. Salad bar was fresh, and offered soup options, but I would not order it as a standalone option. My Turkey dinner was fine, but I found the portion to be smaller than expected. Hamburger and fries looked good, but the chocolate cake ordered for desert was dry. The Bethlehem Diner prices are not the cheapest. Our service was good, the diner is clean, but overall, I'm not sure I'll be returning here on future trips to the Valley. read more

This is one of those instances where you should not judge a book by its cover. This place doesn't look like much from the outside. Kind of tired and nondescript. It's next to a hotel though so if you happen to be staying there, you can walk here easily. Service is excellent. Salad bar is very fresh and the best I've ever seen. Food was cooked well. Prices are also very reasonable compared to many other diners. I've been a little down on diners in the last few years due to high costs and bad service. But this place bucks the trend. This place is full of male dominated, highly aggressive staff; especially the short, foul mouthed manager who assaulted me several times and threatened calling the police after we bought breakfast food there and I needed to change my clothes in the men's bathroom! He must of assumed that I was a vagrant or something, IDK...??? We're traveling across country from AZ to CT and got in late yesterday at the Best Western Hotel down the street and had many problems there w/ poor maintenance of our room, and very rude management staff that gave us a hard time on several occasions causing us to lose several more hours of sleep needlessly!!! We ordered a Fried Seafood Combo plate, Meatloaf, Pork Chop, and Chicken Fingers Basket. The fried seafood was obviously fried in old, dark oil- the shrimp, scallops, and fish were all hardened, extra dark, and basically had no flavor. The breaded pork chop was also super dark and dry. The meatloaf was crusty , as if it's been sitting for days and put in the microwave to be reheated. The baked potato came with no scallions and bacon. All of the "hot" food tasted bland, dry, overcooked. When I am in PA or NJ, the diner is the place for me and this one did NOT disappoint. The food was AMAZING. There are no words for their home fries. Certainly some of the best I have ever had, seriously, they were that good. I had an omelet with a side of bacon and coffee. It was perfection. My aunt had the Monte Cristo sandwich, which we loved and my cousin had a breakfast sandwich. There were no complaints and have added this as a stop next time I visit the area. Now let's talk about the service. I am kicking myself for not getting our waitress' name. We mentioned I needed to get to the airport in an hour. She was quick, making sure we taken good care of and had the check in time for us to leave. Her patience was unbelievable with my aunt who can be very specific. The feeling of the place was great. A good combination of booths and tables. Very open for a diner so you so not feel cramped at all. The noise level was good. I came to this diner with pretty low expectations. It's a diner, after all, so I wasn't anticipating anything extraordinary. Even so, I left feeling let down. We stopped by for breakfast, and while the black coffee was actually quite good (although very strong), the rest of the food didn't really deliver. The French toast was decent but very small. We ordered classic American breakfast staples like eggs, toast, and home fries, but everything felt just okay.. not bad, but nothing particularly enjoyable either. On the plus side, the portion sizes were fair, but overall, this wouldn't be my first recommendation. Unless you're out of options, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. This is hard, it used to be one of my "go to" places to eat. Now, no way. First off the prices have drastically gone up. Not just a little, a lot. And I get it. Prices have gone up everywhere. But here the quality has gone down. My chicken parm was borderline inedible. Full of fat and over cooked. My spaghetti had the texture of chef boy ordardee. Completely mushy. And the sauce was very much a puddle. Not worth the $18. My wife had chopped steak. First, if your menu says something comes with gravy. Put gravy on it. 3rd time ordering chopped steak and it comes with only onions. The menu clearly says gravy and onions. Wouldn't be that big of a deal except our waitress walked back and forgot. Then ignored us. 10 minutes later she finally comes out with it. Not to mention my wife's steak came out charred to the point she only could eat the middle where it was just kind of not charred. Again I expect better for $17 and change. If this was an isolated incident. I wouldn't write anything. But this has been the last 4 or 5 times. We could go to Olive Garden and spend the same amount of money and have better food and service. Too expensive for what you get. Sorry won't be going back, and can't recommend. read more

Coffee was good and the food was also good. The home fries were tasty, which I can not say for a lot of diners. We didn't have to wait long for the food either. The Navy Bean soup I selected was good Cole Slaw had some nice zing (like horseradish was mixed in), but it's too bad the portion was so small. About the size of a condiment cup at other places. Service: Prompt and courteous. Ambiance: It's a Diner. Simple, clean, and some neon flare. Overall: The menu is extensive, but the small portion of pastrami really disappoints me.
