Get the corn nuggets! They're excellent! I feel like I so rarely visit a restaurant that offers corn nuggets, and I'm grateful the Gap Diner's got them and is so good at making them. It might be more correct to call it hamburger soup. Manhattan Clam Chowder - an interesting take that is very celery forward. It makes me think that V8 may have been added. It doesn't taste like the vegetables were sweated in rendered bacon. Not bad overall. Chicken Sausage Gumbo - very good and just started slightly spicy. My son ordered the hungry man, which was 2 eggs any way ( he had over easy) home fries , bacon, toast and pancakes or French toast ( he had French toast ) , he enjoyed everything, only complaint he had was that the crust of the French toast was hard. First and foremost, it's a diner, folks. ‍ With a new owner since February, 2023, there are great servers, elevated menu items along with the prices and it's an easy on, off the Route 33 from points south to the great North. Besides a staple for the locals, it's the place to stop when hunger hits and the only other options are five fast food joints along that strip of main road. I ordered the liver and sautéed onions, $12, side salad and a potato/vegetable. It's not something I eat frequently and was pleasantly surprised by the preparation with the fresh onions. Really good. We stop in for breakfast once in a blue moon. Always satisfied with that meal. The coffee is better tasting that most fine restaurants. $2 Every Thursday, the desserts are 1/2 OFF: so, $2.25/pie or $3.75 cake (chocolate cheesecake is my fave) and nice selection of sweets. First time here since new owners. Sat in the back room. Clean enough but they've not done much since we were here last a few years ago, with duct tape on tears in all the seats etc. Staff was very friendly and the service was fine. We had dinner specials which were, eh, not great. I definitely pictured it going from freezer to microwave when I ordered. New ownership since February 2024. Place looks nice. It is very clean. Selena, our hostess, had us seated with our menus in-hand within seconds of entering the diner and had our drinks on the table within two minutes of being seated. Jen, our waitress... Great personality and allowed two small substitutions on our order, which was taken within minutes of putting our menus down. Food was delivered hot and with a smile and Jen chatted it up with my wife as dinner was served. Jen checked up on us twice while eating. She came to the table prepared to pour my second cup of coffee (delicious). Everyone enjoyed the food, burger/fries, grilled cheese/fries, open turkey/fries with dark gravy (substitution). Person who seated us was not friendly. That was #1. The food was horrible. Can't even make it sound any better. This was our second time here. Didn't like it the first time for breakfast. A year later we figured we give it another shot for dinner. Not the best idea. I had a veggie burger. Paid $4 extra for fries and coleslaw. Coleslaw was the best part of the meal. Boyfriend had chicken croquettes and he didn't like any of it. Our server was nice, but not a great feeling there either since she told us she was sick and now she is handling our food!?!?! This place has been under a few owners. I lived in Pen Argyl for 20 years and this diner was the place to avoid forever, but the past two owners have really cleaned it up. This visit was from November 2017. My girlfriend and I stopped in here for quick breakfast. Two omelets, drinks, and great service in about a half hour. Went there yesterday for breakfast w my kids. First when I walked in it looked like a geriatrics clinic that prob was serving institutional food, was I right. Here was my order. Cheese steak omelet and the kids both asked for egg, cheese and sausage wraps, but with scrambled egg, that's the key here, scrambled. I think Flo wrote it down but came back with a fried egg. They didn't use burrito wraps just a taco wrap, so it was a size if McDonald's wrap. Tons of cheese, maybe from Aldi but tasted like craft singles, barf. My omelet was ok, not the best. The previous owners 3 years back deserve the poor reviews seen on yelp however the newer owner has stepped it up. The diner exterior has been changed from a horrible green to a nice welcoming maroon color. The interior walls have been cleaned eliminating the ugly nostalgia signs of days past. Late evenings with Kim are a plus. And the chef on staff with her is fantastic. Egg and sausage omelet well done cooked to perfection. Everything now is fresh homemade cooking. The chicken parmesan is unbelievably delicious with the thick homemade tomato sauce. So don't pass up stopping by this Diner because it is actually a great choice. We ate in once and it wasn't bad food or sevice. But today we decided to order to go. Despite the the woman who took my order reading it back to me correctly, once we got home we discovered it was wrong. We were missing an item. Strangely when I called to tell them, the woman who took the order knew they had made an error? If they knew they made a mistake, why not fix it ? So we drove back 15 minutes there another 15 to drive back home. All the other food is cold now but right so we begin heating it up. My husband's pancakes were burned, they hid it by putting that side down. The home fries were undercooked and tough. This known error is not only frustrating but time and gas wasted. Fool me once shame on You, Fool Me twice shame on me. NEVER gonna happen again. Never accept an error at a restaurant. Their whole purpose is to make You food the way you order it. My experience at this diner is one of those stories that when I tell friends, they sit waiting for the punchline. They're thinking, how can this be true? But sadly, it is. Definitely crowd pleasers. I'm all about hole in the wall atmosphere, seriously. And as is the usual go-to for my friends, and I, we both ordered omelettes. Soon after the food arrived, my cousin noticed a hair in hers. And then another. OK, i know it happens. That's to be expected from time to time and you cannot judge an establishment on what could be a freak incident. In fact, we were in such a hurry, my cousin decided to just eat her toast, drink her coffee, and forget about it. Until the waitress stopped by the table to see if everything was ok, likely having overheard our conversation. We promptly explained the hair situation. To which she echoed back my own words -- yeah, well, it happens. But then it went further. She asked, did these hairs happen to be black and curly? And holding back our sickness, we both replied yes. Oh. She explained there is a gentleman in the kitchen who just isn't clean and no matter how many times they discuss it with him, he still isn't washing up. TMI? Maybe. Five of us were looking for anything but chains and fast food while returning from Camel Beach. I had a distant memory of a diner being located off of the 512 exit of 33. We pulled in, sat down, and were greeted by a very friendly waitress. Three of us went for breakfast foods, a mixture of omelettes and pancakes. Two of us tried something a little bit more adventurous. One had the chicken fingers, admittedly not very adventurous. The second one had the turkey club sandwich, also not very adventurous. Because we stuck with standard diner fare, and did not venture far from what they could possibly be able to deliver, we all had very good meals. The omelettes and potatoes were very good, we had a mixture of spinach bacon cheese and onions. My family are on a Poconos vacation. We visited a friend in Wind Gap, who recommended the Gap Diner. I found this to be a superb diner! Our food was terrific! I ordered a tuna salad platter which was delicious! It consisted of a lovely salad, a choice of either potato salad, macaroni salad and a side of coke slaw. I was allowed to substitute the macaroni or potato salad and instead took two cole slaw. The tuna salad itself was very well prepared. It contained chopped veggies, had mayonaise but unlike many tuna salads, it was not swimming in it! The same is true of the cole slaw! The salad was fresh and the tomatoes were perfectly ripe. The platter was quite generous! In fact, I took half with me and ate it for dinner in our motel room! My husband had the gyro platter with the lamb, which he thoroughly enjoyed. My son had a cheeseburger and fries, which he devoured! Our friend had a Greek salad, which was also thoroughly enjoyed. The diner was clean and our server, Amy, was found to be charming, efficient, and accommodating! Thank you, Amy! When we return to this area, we plan to return to The Gap Diner!!! read more
