This guy is a big scammer. He keeps your equipment for months. You have to constantly call to see when it's fixed. He finally tells you it's fixed and when you take it home, you realized it still has the same exact problems. It was never worked on. Then you bring back, and he tells you it will cost more money to fix it. No thanks. Then he tells you he is an authorized McIntosh repair facility, he is not! Call Mac and find out this out for yourself; I did! So go ahead, drop your hard earned coin with him and find out for yourself, learn the hard way. read more

When one of my Polk Atrium speakers failed to put-out, I wasn't sure where to take it. After all, I've been in love with them for 6 years, since I purchased them new in 2006, and I didn't want to be without their sensuous sound. I found Beta Electronic Repair on Google, and decided to give Roy's shop a try. So, so happy I did, Roy and I had a nice chat in his small shop space, which he's occupied since 1992, and he expedited the repair of the speaker to meet my needs (I was giving a party that Saturday). Roy is a flashback to the days of the tv repairman.. He actually comes to you if need be!! I recently had Roy refurbish my 1964 RCA Mark VII Danish Modern stereo console , 12 tubes, 235 watts, 8 speakers.... Its one of the last tube stereos RCA Victor offered, as they were already transitioning to solid state chasisis. Roy came to me in Oakland Park, removed the record changer, amp and radio units, took them to his shop, and recapped, cleaned , recalibrated and replaced about half the vacuum tubes. Then brought it all back and we reinstalled everything. He also replaced the display lamps. His work is great, he is personable and truly loves what he does. I felt confident in his abilities to work on my 64'.. He was first certified in 1962! My only caveat t is that he didnt keep me abreast of the costs involved once the work began. Refurbishing vintage audio is like restoring old cars ...NOT CHEAP.. But my unit will run for another 50 years trouble free! Thanks to Roy! Roy is keeping an era alive in South Florida. Good things come in inconspicuous, unassuming packages! The building is inconspicuous and unassuming; this gentleman is amazing! A class act all the way. Not only does he know his stuff, but he is straight-up about things. I took him my "stereo component system" from around 2000. This is a baby compared to some of the vintage things he works on. I wanted to keep my system because it still plays cassettes, and although it is not quite vintage yet, it is getting up there. Something was wrong with one side of the cassette player and with the CD player; the radio was also a bit questionable. Well, now everything works! The price was reasonable, and I never doubted my equipment was in good hands! AVOID this place. I have a 1960's Sherwood integrated tube amp that I took to Roy last fall for get restored - recapped, biased, to get new power tubes, and whatever else it needed, as all the components in it were original. All functions on this amp worked when I left it with him. This amp means so much to me and I wanted it to be in good hands. I had read glowing things about Roy and figured that he'd be the guy to go to. Taking my amp here was a big mistake and turned into a big headache. He had it for 7 months until finally I said "enough is enough" and I took it back unfinished and in a semi-operable state. He didn't seem to think this was an unacceptable amount of time. He lost the bottom cover, the screws set that held the covers on, and scratched up the fragile faceplate - something I specifically asked him to be careful of - he wasn't. This amp is a major PITA to work on, but that's why I was going to pay him $600 - the price he quoted me at. I trusted him to do the work that needed to be done. I spent this past summer educating myself about this amp and some basic tube circuitry (which I should have done in the first place) and found that Roy was very lazy in his work and hacked up with insides of this amp. Instead of restuffing the caps on the top - not a fun thing to do, BTW - he replaced only some of the caps underneath the unit in some interesting places and left several 50+ year old electrolytics running in the system, which by the way, is a fire hazard, given the high voltages and temperatures inside the unit. I mentioned the unit was semi-operable when I got it back. 2 of the inputs did not work. The issues turned out to be a lead of a capacitor that he BROKE and a capacitor that he installed in the WRONG place. Parts that he did not replace and should have (coupling caps) nearly caused one of the output transformers to overheat and melt down while testing the amp. Good luck finding a replacement for one of those. Sloppy, shoddy, careless work. I finished this amp myself this summer, mostly fixing his mistakes and wiring it back the way it is supposed to. I restuffed all the cans and replaced all the components that needed to be replaced. It was a TON of work and a TON of research. It runs great now, and I, a person that learned how to do this in 3 months on the internet, did a better job than he did in 7 months. The biggest issue I had with Roy was with communication. He NEVER called me to inform me of the progress of the amp. At one point he forgot about this amp altogether and so a call to him reminded him about it. He seemed unclear that I actually wanted him to finish it (!)...very confusing. He never gave me any timelines about when it would be done or never seemed to be in a rush to do anything on it. Calls to him seemed to produce some work, so eventually I would call once a month for an update. I was exceedingly understanding and patient throughout. Just about the only nice thing I have to say about Roy is that he is a very nice guy. He is polite, kind, and pleasant to talk shop with. But business is business, and he violated the trust that I put in him to finish something that was extremely important to me. I guess that's my fault. Lesson learned. Please take your business elsewhere. You'll be better off spending a little more money by sending it somewhere to somebody who will do the work right and in a timely manner. read more
