In my younger student days this was he place that we often went to after hitting the clubs, but that was more than 16 years back back then a take away was just a take away. Food There is a good selection available but all meat options are Halal and they are not giving non halal people the choice to choose what they want to eat, not everyone is vegetarian. In the past two years the food here has doubled in price, but the quality in food has gone down hill. Atmosphere This place lacks in any atmosphere, even though there are seats to sit in, it's not an option that l would choose, food prices here have doubled in two years for no reason even though food quality hasn't got any better. Although Best Kebeb is quite squarely aimed at the 3am market, it is surprisingly busy during the day too. Sober people come in here. For their lunch. And they aren't that neddy looking either. I am writing this purely on the grounds that after a few pints and an evening of merriment this place does the best Chicken Pakora I have had in a long time. The chicken is generous in portion, the sauce is nice and spicy and if you go for chips at the same time then the combination is pure heaven to the drunken fool you will be at that time of the night. Next morning your system may not thank you, but that could be the drink. However late night gorging places rarely come better, seedier, rougher, nicer or more fun than here. Top tip, if you are going to take away and it is dark/rainy/3am then try not to walk over the bridge towards Strathclyde University. One night I did that and ended up in something like an Indiana Jones movie moment as a river of rats streamed across the bridge from Queen Street to the Buchanan Galleries car park! There is a pun with the name, this place is quite infamous because of the irony and that's why I went there yesterday to try it. Challenge accepted! I bought some doner kebab. I was in the metro taking it home to analyze it with my scientific machinery. The hazardous materials where already pounding out while I was on the metro because of a 55 degrees erroneous declination of the box. I thought for a while people with radioactive suits will descent from the sky and take this to a quarantine place, like it's the worst SCP you are not supposed to touch or something. Five years back, as an undergrad at Strathclyde, I would find myself here with friends at 3am after a big night out. This happened one too many times. Obviously it was not the soberest of times, but it was fun times indeed. Fast forward 5 years later, after a long day of MBA lectures and grueling group work, a teammate suggests Best Kebab for dinner. Flashbacks of drunken haziness flooded my mind. With nothing else open at that time at night, I hesitantly said yes. Best Kebab is still the same, 5 years later. Still serving up the same menu of burgers, chips, kebabs, sarbenis, curries, pakoras and pizzas. It was my first sober dining experience in Best Kebab, and it would probably be my last. Somewhat of an institution, Best Kebab has been providing late night revellers with pizzas, mechanically recovered meat and mass brawls for years. Though not exactly pleasant to sit in, it's worth it to try a sarbeni, which is a sort of rolled up pitta bread with a filling of your choice inside. I've also notced it surprisingly busy during the day and have even seen some suits here. The standard here is just that little bit higher than your usual kebab joint so I'd recommend it. Best Kebab is a 3am establishment through and through, despite being situated in a fairly barren and ominously quiet stretch of town. Much of its popularity stems from its close proximity to Strathclyde and Caledonian University, athough you will find one or two students each night who've actually trekked quite some distance to get here. Not quite sure why, as this is undeniably plain, processed fare. Holy crap, what is a Sarbeni and why is it so dang good?? This wee gem of a takeaway is positioned in a dark corner near Queen Street Station and is a must stop basically any time of the day. It stays open nearly all the time and their Sarbeni's are to die for. Basically a huge piece of nann bread, packed with sauce, cheese, salad, and a hot sauce (any filling, really, all to your liking, of course) then grilled and wrapped up. It's literally over a foot long of yummy goodness and worth every penny!! The place itself is very typical of a takeaway joint, plenty of seating for the weary shopper and the people usually working there are nice. The very name of this place sets the bar pretty high, declaring itself the vendor of the very best kebabs around. Best Kebab is a firm favourite for dodgy drunks, coming from far and wide for the wonders of a greasy kebab, or in my experience, a sarbeni. A sarbeni is a massive naan bread filled with your choice of meat, a little salad for good measure, and mountains of cheese, which is then rolled up and oven cooked, resulting in a dish the size and weight of a small child. This cheese dripping grease-fest should be eaten carefully and wearing an apron, if at all possible. Only for the drunk, ravenous and strong stomached. Having said that, the bright yellow lights seems to draw me in time and time again, to satisfy my belly's drunk and disgusting demands. read more

Best Kebab has been offering Turkish cuisines with a blend of local Glaswegian taste for a significant amount of time. Its location is strategic - at the junction of Dundas Street and Cathedral Street, just right by the busy Queen Street train station. It usually serves as an outlet for late night snacks and food and opens even on the quietest of days such as New Year's Day which scores well for convenience as opposed to most other outlets which cannot wait to shut their doors when holidays come. They also have a 'lunch menu' which has lowered prices for many of its products. However, the price is not really low (I've tried better ones) and the counter staffs can sometimes be rowdy and impatient. They don't accept credit cards and may sometimes get annoyed by high-value notes. Will never step in here unless the other places are closed. But the sarbenis are worth trying out. Not too sure if they have Glasgow's fabled Fried Mars Bars (they may deep fry them for you if you supply the bars). Do NOT try Donner Meat and Chips for £5. You can get them at £3.50 or lower at many other places. read more

I usually enjoy a visit to Best Kebab after a few beers. Unfortunately, I have visited twice in a row and received far below standard service recently. I visited a couple of weeks ago and sat in, enjoying a kebab - which tastes fantastic after a few drinks - however, I was over charged for the cheese that I requested on my meal. I was happy to forgive the "restaurant" for this as it was less than a pound more and I accepted this as a genuine mistake. I had the unpleasure of visiting Best Kebab again tonight and was victim to the worst service I have ever received in any restaurant i have visited or heard of! I ordered a kebab and bottle of water which I was charged £7 for. I paid my seven pounds and was given my bottle of water and waited on my kebab. Whilst waiting for my meal the owner of the establishment asked me how much I had paid... I thought this strange but replied "Seven pounds". He then accused me of not paying in full for my meal and said that I owed £1.10 for my water as if i had reached far behind the counter and stolen it. I tried to explain (more calmly than the situation deserved) that there was no way I could reach the water and that I had already paid for what I had ordered. The girl that had served me began to speak to him in a foreign language and he then said that I actually owed him £1.10 for the cheese on my kebab (coincidence? I think not ). I tried to explain to the manager/owner that I was 100% not trying to rip him off and that I supported local business and had always enjoyed his kebabs. He replied with a "I don't have time..." in a disgraceful manner. I used to support this "restaurant" and enjoyed a drunken kebab from here but the service - especially from the manager - is atrocious. I shall not be visiting again as there are plenty of places to buy kebabs nearby. I appreciate the ease of grabbing a kebab right next to the train station but I would ask anyone reading this: Please do not visit best kebab, I have been seriously let down, after visiting fairly regularly and I would like to see a complete drop in custom after the way that I have been treated. I was genuine and honest with the staff, I tried to explain the situation but they were having none of it. The manager tried to forcefully grab my drink from my hands and shouted at me. I was eventually given my kebab - only because I waited for a while after I was told I wouldn't get it unless I paid extra. Even my girlfriend (who wouldn't say boo to a fly) tried to explain to the staff that there was no way I could have grabbed a bottle of water from behind the counter and that I had paid in full when I ordered. This resulted in me receiving a kebab with a grudge. I have visited Best Kebab many times but I will never return after tonight. I will also advise my friends to avoid the place and will post many reviews online as I feel that this place should be closed, due not only to their terrible customer service but their horrible hygiene. I went to this Kebab shop last night. Very low customer service standard and counter staff was extremely impertinent. They charged tiny potion of mix kebab for £6.50 and charged extra for chill sauce. I am warning to everyone to stay away from this place. Not at all happy with the service received at this place! Tonight my partner and I went in for some food. I ordered one small chips cheese and kebab sauce and one large. The first thing that shocked me at this point was getting 2 quid back from 10 quid! The guy who owns the place then handed me two boxes that were equal. When I told him I asked for a small and large he said to me, "You can handle a large ". I'd like to point out here, that these were clearly not large. Which made situation more frustrating! Afterwards my partner said he wasn't happy and said he wanted our money back. As not only had he given us the wrong thing, and charged us extra but the cost on the wall didn't even add up! Avoid this place at all costs, the guy attempted to charge me £10.50 for chips, cheese and donner then when I eventually only got chips and cheese he gave me a small portion with hardly any cheese and charged me an extra £1 for tomato sauce. Was waiting in the queue, and the man behind the counter skipped over a friend and I to serve some other girls and actually said "f*** them, I'll serve you pretty girls first" within our earshot. Then when it came to ordering he charged me for a large chips and curry instead of a regular like I asked. When confronted, he put up the argument that I would get more that way, and I had to remind him that I didn't want more, I wanted what I ordered. When they were ready, I had been given about 3/4 of chips my friend got, obviously as an retaliation to my objection. Chips themselves were poor, as was those of my other party members. When looking for a quick fix after a night out, you can't expect much, but the service in this establishment was atrocious.
