Hmmm I heard lots of good things about this place, for me it is alright. I have been here 3 times and some things are done well, others not so much or I am not sure I get it.
My first time there we had quite a few appetizers to start. The bread (two kinds) with dip are fabulous. All of their dips and sauces seem to be quite good and made fresh. Portions could be better for the price...the prices aren't high or anything, but the portions across the board seem small. My entree was the Octopus Kebab, and it was rubbery and horrible to be honest. I love octopus and this was just horrendous, which is why I think it has since been removed from the menu. Also there was like 3 pieces of octopus on the whole kebab with not much else. My dinner compadres seemed to be much more satisfied than me.
Second time at Babs I had the steak kebab, the meat was good, but again I have had much better kebabs in Glasgow, and there was not much substance to my kebab. For dessert I had the "donuts", which were a bit strange. There was a whole lot going on- cream filling, pistachios, chocolate and raspberry on a rather dry sliced pastry bun. They were good, but not what I would call a donut. I had these another time and the pastry was not as dry and tasted much better...but its not a great donut. My friend had the burger and it was impressive, but I wouldn't expect anything less considering the owners of Bread Meats Bread started this restaurant.
I love the atmosphere and want to love this place because I like the idea of a sit down diner for a kebab, but unfortunately the food doesn't do it for me. There are things to like about Babs, but there is definitely room for improvement. read more
