We pass by here all the time on our way to places so decided to give this place a try. I must say, I had my doubts about going to a Spanish place in Scotland, but I was thoroughly impressed. Looks very sophisticated and classy inside. There was an extensive bar and their drinks were really good. Service was pretty quick, and they were very attentive. We ordered Iberico croquettes that were good (of course not as good as Spain). Crust was flavorful and heavy on the cream to jamon ratio. Jamon Iberico was good, sourdough of course is not authentic to the Spanish cuisine, but it was still tasty bread. We ordered the Galician sirloin and it was really good. If you are a real steak lover, probably go for their prime rib. I like my steak a little less fatty. Their cheesy cauliflower was rich and tasty and their tomato salad was just whatever, but it was good tomatoes. This was still one of my better meals here in Scotland. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Scotland, hands down. We made a reservation and it was very walkable distance from where we stayed downtown. We started off with some cocktails and then got red wine to pair with our steaks. We decided to go with a Spanish cut and Scottish cut to make sure we got best of both worlds. We paired that with some fries and peppercorn sauce. The food was amazing and the drinks were amazing. The service was also spectacular and we felt very welcome. The place is very dimly lit and was perfect for a romantic dinner. We didn't realize just how popular this place is but before we left we heard that famous actors often go, Will Ferrell, being one of them. This place was 5/5 and highly recommended if you're in Glasgow. read more

Delicious food and steak. We had the beef carpaccio for an appetizer then we shared the chateaubriand for two. It was absolutely amazing! For our sauces we had the peppercorn and mojo verde; both wonderful although the peppercorn was my favorite. DEFINITELY recommend this dining experience!!! Our waitress walked by several times never noticing that our wine glasses were empty, our water glasses were empty, that we had finished our meal...you don't get service here unless you ask for it. To add insult to injury, a 12.5% service charge was added to our bill. The highest I've ever seen in Scotland. Oh, and the smallest 230 gram filet I have ever seen. read more

Visited the Spanish butcher for my Graduation last Tuesday and the food was just incredible. The most tender steak I have even eaten, my mother ordered the monkfish and was also in awe with the food. Additionally my sister has celiac disease, and we were pleasantly surprised to see that most items were gluten free, including all the steak sauces. This made the entire dining experience enjoyable. Beyond the food, the service was amazing. It felt to an extent laid back but our waitress (a young Spanish girl, didn't catch her name unfortunately) was incredibly well informed on the menu and drinks. Recommending and explaining the items on the menu and also presented me with a complimentary glass of Cava as a graduation gift. I honestly could not recommend this place enough, amazing food, beautiful decor and outstanding service. I cannot wait to come back! read more

A rather swish new Galician restaurant...no, they weren't pals with the Romulans in Star Trek, it's actually an area of Spain...has materialised into existence on Miller St. It's part of the Rusk and Rusk group which includes Hutcheson's and the Butchershop, so you would expect standards to be high, the service to be good, and the interior to be beautiful. And for the latter two it is true, but what about the food. Seared hand-dived Orkney scallop, with 5J pork cheek, red pepper soup, morcilla and fried egg. Sounds like a very tasty meal doesn't it. Well no, that was just my £11 starter. I was surprised to see that it was indeed a single scallop, though to give it its dues a very large one, sitting on a black pudding (morcilla). 5J apparently refers to the finest Spanish piggery out there, and the pork cheek was consequently very soft and tasty. The whole thing in fact was quite different and neither the pork nor the scallop was overwhelmed by the "soup" or egg. We had ordered the bone in prime rib (grade 9 apparently, meaning extreme marbling) of 12-14 years old Galician blond cow - though I assured my partner I would have been quite happy with raven-haired if they'd offered the choice. We were there for lunch so we thought the 800g bit would suffice! You have a choice of 800 or 900g, confusingly expressed in the menu as 8/100g ie. 0.08g, a not inconsiderable difference. Why the hell do that? We have enough to ask about on the menu without them trying to change numerical convention too. I just wish I'd asked the price though, the whole lunch came in at more than £100. The beef was certainly very nice, a little bit fatty In places as you would expect from the description, I normally shun fat but it wasn't a problem, and the meat was very soft and loose-textured, it was accompanied by truffle fries and a sauce of our choice. All very good, I really liked the fries, they had a good kick about them, and the tasty sauce was just the right consistency to coat the meat. There was a fresh, herbaceous taste to the dish and although I was toying with four stars because of the price, it has just got to be five. read more

I came here today with my boyfriend and parents in law for lunch. This place is *posh*. It has big, lovely windows, dark wood panelling and low lighting. There's an air of exclusivity in the air - you can always tell. The less things a place has on the menu, the posher it is. For starters, we had a mixture of different things including two overpriced bread rolls, peppers, a selection of meat, mushrooms and octopus. I mainly had the meat and the bread - it was disappointingly average. For the main course, I had the Secreto Iberico Pork. I wasn't too keen on the sauce - it looked like bogies. The pork was fine. And that's all it was. Fine. For £18, I was expecting better. Maybe I'm some kind of philistine? Maybe I'm missing something? I also had a piece of the lamb - but again I found it underwhelming and frankly, a tad on the dry side. The chips that came with the pork were the best part of the meal. For desert, I had "Cafe Con Leche" which was the best part of the experience, to be honest. It wasn't too overwhelmingly coffee-y and the ice cream was beautifully delicate. The service couldn't be faulted, our server made sure we always had water on the table and was able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of the food. She answered the questions we had too. I see what this place is trying to do, but, if I'm being honest, it's just okay. I'm begrudgingly giving three stars because the overall experience was nice, but the food is just nothing to write home about and is certainly not worth the price it charges. It's also incredibly expensive for food that I could get at a fraction of the price at Cafe Andaluz. I think this place is punching above it's weight, really. read more

I noticed on Instagram that The Spanish Butcher was opening this week and a Saturday lunch with a friend was the perfect opportunity to get in there and try it out. So. I love it. Really cool interior/exterior, has very nice loft-like decor but still managed to feel cosy. Staff are really friendly and enthusiastic, and seem genuinely excited for you to try out their dishes and give feedback which is cool. They have a la carte and a lunch menu on offer. We ended up going for the lunch menu, which at 19 pound for two courses is kinnnndaaa pricey, what I had was delicious. It was a roasted cauliflower, done with potatoes and lots of garlic-y goodness. Really enjoyed it and loved how they made such simple veggies taste so damn good. Followed up with a lovely little Spanish trifle, which had Pedro Ximenez jelly in it...I could have eaten my weight in this..seriously. So all in all, I'll definitely be back and will be recommending to friends and family. There is a decent amount of seating options at the bar and a little bar menu if you are just looking for a drink, a snack and a nosey! Great wine selection and a small list of Spanish beers. My only issue was how expensive it was for two very simple (albeit very delicious) courses. Wouldn't put me off going back but something to be aware of if you're on a budget. read more

Me and my wife were in here last week and I still haven't recovered from how good it was. From the attentive service as soon as we walked in we were seen to straight away and our server took a drinks order from us right away. We ordered a few nibbles from the starters as we were still trying to pick what to have. They came straight away while we still had the menu in our hands. Our server took us through the sharing cuts and asked if we wanted to see the cuts board. A minute or so later he was back with a huge board with 4 cuts of meat on them so we could decide which to go for. It was a no-brainer for us as the Sirloin and Prime Rib are both giving away weight to the bone in them and the Chateaubriand is grossly overpriced no-matter where you're eating it. That only leaves the Iberica Bellota Pork. We went for a 700g cut and was told it could be up to 40 mins for the cooking/resting to be done. Given the size of the cut it wasn't a shock to us and we still had the nibbles to see us through. The sourdough bread was crunchy with a soft chewy centre and the PX vinegar cut through the EVOO with no problems. The Gordal Olives were a revelation as I thought I'd had most olives over the years but these huge big flavourful olives are right up there with the best of them. The Cantabrian Anchovies were also a great little plate with the lemon and thyme cutting through the deep anchovy flavour. My only gripe about them could be the size of portion as there was only 7 on the plate putting them at 50p an anchovy. I could be biased about this as I would happily eat shoals of anchovies given the chance. After the plates were cleared we didn't have to wait long for the Pork to appear and it was definitely worth the wait. The huge piece of pork was carved for us and arrived on a hot plate and then came the truffle and manchego chips as well as the Fideua and the confit butter beans we'd ordered extra. The PX jus and the poached garlic sauce were amazing. We really struggled to pick some sauces for this and hopefully we made the right choices. The pork was succulent, pink, and with a flavour that's getting quite beefy. If I'd been blindfolded I'd have really struggled to pick it out as pork. We're booked to go back here with family next month and although we put a suckling pig on order I want to have more of that pork. Certainly not the worst dilemma to have. All in all I thought The Spanish Butcher is doing something very different for a "steak place" in Glasgow. I loved the cuts board and the choice of the different sizes and cuts to pick from, it reminded me of Hawksmoor for that and it's not like they're doing anything wrong. On a side note, there was a table to 2 women next to us and one of them had various requests about her lamb as she was on a diet and the way the server handled it couldn't have been better. read more
