Secreto de Pollo y Limon, Manchego Frito & Croquetas de Pollo y Jamon
Sarah T.

I've found service at Barca to be a little 'hit and miss' at times. Thankfully, this was one of the good experiences. I love the interior, it definitely has a Spanish vibe which I love. At the bar area there are plenty of comfy seats and it's great for a catch up with friends.Obviously at peak times, it can get a little busier but you usually manage to find seats quite easily. 5pm offer great deals for Barca which is definitely why i come back a lot for food! The cocktail menu is extensive and I like the range they have on offer, which they vary quite often. I had three tapas dishes: Secreto de Pollo y Limon (Chicken strips with chilli, lemon and saffron), Manchego Frito (Mild cheese fritters with smoked tomato relish) & Croquetas de Pollo y Jamon (Roast Chicken & Ham croquettes with Romesco Sauce. The cheese fritters were definitely the highlight of the meal. Although...why do you never get enough tomato relish?! I love churros and can never resist them. Thankfully, the churros at Barca are really delicious! Would definitely recommend trying them.

We were in Glasgowduring the collapse of the British Airways systems and as we anxiously awaited news about our flights, it seemed wise to take the edge off with some sangria and stress eat a few small plates. The "outside patio" in the mall looks quite inviting and was very popular. We were envious of people who got a table here as the inside of the restaurant was on the warm side. Tables were a great size for tapas, so you can find room for your small plate - but best to order 3-4 at a time and then order again, or you won't have anywhere to put anything. Booths looked very cozy, and table chairs were comfortable, but the tables are placed quite close together. They timed the dishes well, our experience with Spanish tapas is that it is meant to be an unrushed meal where dishes arrive a bit spaced out, which they did abide by. The wait staff was friendly and answered questions about the food honestly. Tagine De Cordero was delightful! A lamb shoulder slow cooked with apricots, cinnamon, and paprika. Other places we've had this dish it is always a massive portion, a nice change allowing us to try a few other dishes as well. Lamb and Apricots are one of those magical food pairings and if you've never had this it is worth stopping in just to try it. Queso De Cabray Mermelada De Higos: A big beautiful slice of grilled goat cheese with fig jam. Slather that on some bread and enjoy! We enjoyed this so much we've been preparing it at home. The goat cheese is a really good quality and they serve a generous portion. The jam is more like a sweet fig sauce with the added bonus of plump whole figs. Breads were fresh and fluffy, and they came out with a trio of flavoured oils were wonderful to enjoy. If you find yourself in the area it's well worth checking out!

First of all, Princes Square is a really cute place to go. Another thing is that Barca is maybe the only authentic Spanish tapas and cava bar in Glasgow. Well what it lacks is the sunshine and the suntanned women but the food is up there. As someone who shares Spanish ancestry and is an expert at its cuisine, whenever in Glasgow, you must hit up Barca. The presentation is clean and pretty. And the taste is just as authentic. Nothing beats a home cooked Spanish meal by grandmother, but this comes close. First dish I'll talk about is the paella, though not served in a ten foot wide pan, the paella here is just like it is in Spain. I thought a fancy looking place like this would try to fuse it with other genres or regions of cooking. But they got it right here: rice, fish, broth, shells...paella. Just to let you know, you can get paella with different meats. Going to a tapas bar, you must try other dishes so I always go for the chicken skewers, lemon chicken and the king prawns. Sounds like an Asian menu but it isn't. Now I don't intend on eating these myself, so it's good to come in a group. Last but not least, the prices here are reasonable. I'm thinking if this place was in LA, NY or London, plates of tapas would go for 8 quid or 20 dollars. But here, they go from close to 4 pounds to 10, so expect to spend a reasonable amount of money for a lot of food. Last but not least, great drinks. Gotta like a place that serves too many different types of martinis. A high recommendation for dates, relaxing or after shopping meal.

Meat and cheese platter next to bread and olives

Came here with my glam fam from Italy, seeing as half of them were a bit picky with food, Spanish seemed to be the safer option. I didn't choose this place either! I suggested checking out Princes Square and my fam gravitated towards the Spanish name (haha) I'm quite glad that was the case cause we had pretty good food for dinner! There were 6 of us including my wee 12 year old brother. So we ordered for starters, a bread, and a sliced meat and cheese platter, for mains, seafood paella for 5 people, chicken wings for the little bro, a trio dessert platter, and a selection of wines, beers and sangria for drinks. I was quite disappointed with the starters because the bread we ordered (that's comes with olives and oil) were just a bit pathetic. Shouldn't a Spanish restaurant naturally bring bread without us having to order it? And constantly refill it?? I dunno. The meat and cheese platter was nice, but def not enough for the 6 of us (5 being italians with huge appetites). Our paella was pretty delicious! Huge portion and with a lot of seafood (which got me super excited!). Def recommend that! And our desserts were delightful. It was a platter so there was chocolate mousse, churros and creme bulee. I can't choose a favourite because I loved them all. Great way to end the meal! Not forgetting my sangria. It was warm that day and my drink hit the spot! Yum yum Service was pretty good and fast so nothing to complain here! Should give it a try :)

I believe the mezzanine is free to hire during the week. First up - this place is really, really dark. I actually don't even know how it's so dark, even in the middle of the day. It really does take a bit for your eyes to adjust to the place. The decor is a bit outdated but nothing offensive and the mezzanine space is great as it's actually quite bright and cosy without being squashy (mind your head if you're tall!). There's a good wine list and they are reasonably priced. We had a few platters for our group - vegetarian and meat - and they both seemed to be very well received, particularly the red pepper hummus on the veggie platter. From what I remember, the platters are described as serving 2 people but I'd actually say it's more like 4 as they're really quite big. On the night we visited, it was really busy as it was Easter Thursday and so our reserved area was hotly sought-after by people looking for a seat. When I was leaving later in the night, there was lots of rowdy blokes downstairs so that was a little off-putting (but I was on my way out anyway). I expect that on a normal night this is a quite a pleasant bar to hang out in.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that all the food was that of the light bite nature - the pate and oatcakes went extremely well with my choice of wine (or so the waiter told me; to me, they were just incredibly tasty). Trying to choose which glass of wine I'd like was the hardest part - they have over 13 pouring wines, ranging from pinot grigios to prosecco...mmm... and that's not including the hundred other bottles we could have had (not that I would spend anywhere near £218 on a bottle of anything). It's a nice little place - it's got a rustic feel about it, and is frequented by a generally older crowd (ok, I'd say maybe 75% of the customers had greying or white hair, which isn't a bad thing, but I'm 20-something, and it's not EXACTLY my kinda place). I can see why it's popular - the food, the wine, and the ambience - and it has made me actually reconsider my initial statement - however, I may be a few years off becoming a regular, as yet.

Searching online for somewhere that was just a little bit different for a special occasion, we came across Le Petit Cochon and liked the look of the seafood choices on the menu. It's just a few steps off the main drag in Radnor Street (opposite the end of Kelvin Way), and seems to have been a burger bar in a former life. It was a Monday night, so they weren't exactly busy, and so the service was friendly and attentive, and we were soon tucking into our starters. We had the hot smoked salmon and asparagus as a starter, and straight away I realised that the food was going to be great, as the asparagus was cooked to perfection. Often the ends of the stems can get a bit stringy, but not here. Not stringy and not limp, just perfect crunch. For mains, we both had the pollock, which is a fish you don't see that much here, although it is becoming more popular. The portion size seemed a bit small, but in retrospect it was just right as it left room for some pudding! Again, the veg were cooked to 'al dente' perfection. The whole was washed down with a half-carafe of very dry white wine from their extensive wine list, and we left replete and happy.

Funnily enough, I had tagged along to the very same party with Mr M. below, as a group of us sheepishly walked in, unsure if we were welcome due to our friend of a friend of a friend relationship with the soon to be bride and groom. However we needn't have worried, everyone was in such good spirits, probably as a result of having downed plenty of them. When we went to the bar, feeling rather cheeky, we ordered a shot. I was amazed when my £1.50 bought me: not just any shot, but a small glass with several unmeasured glugs that were more than a mouthful. Amazing! The cheesy DJ added to this place's old fashioned family charm, with everyone up on the dancefloor by the end of the night, ourselves included. You can't help but fall in love with this place, for its old fashioned family hospitality and not so measured drinks that make your money go further, and your dance moves all the more ridiculous.

I was here for a friends engagement, where everyone was merry and the drinks were flowing. Not a drinker myself I got the apparent amusement of watching the party goers old, very old, young and very young dance and sing the night away. We all had a great time. The suite itself was a good size for our party, of what was around 70 people. So not to big, but just as well because the buffet wouldn't have went much further. With all the classic buffet foods, just like Peter Kay says. Whats great about these sorts of things is just that every one ends up just so friendly, celebrations are so much more fun than a normal night out because everyone is in great spirits.
