Manitaria Gemista. So tasty!
Jen L.

Twas Ladies' Night and three of us decided to live on the edge and try a cuisine never sampled before at Frosoulla's. This restaurant is just around the corner from my flat, and I've spent the entire time I lived in Battlefield meaning to try this place out (even before, when they were the Greek Golden Kebab). Something always got in the way, but this time I managed to actually get through the doors without something else coming up! Huzzah! To be clear, this is my first Greek restaurant experience, so while I know about Greek food as a whole from a home cooking perspective, I'm not sure what's traditionally on offer at a restaurant. While two of us awaited the third member of our dining party (read 'pig-out brigade'), we turned convention of its head and had the coffee-based cocktails at the start of our meal rather than at the end. What rebels! They were warm and tasty, and very welcome on a cold evening. We weren't waiting too long, just enough time to finish our drinks and order up. We flirted with a shared mezzedes menu, but we couldn't agree so just ordered separately. For starters I had the manitaria gemista, which was stuffed mushrooms with feta cheese and herbs coated in breadcrumbs, deep fried. These were tasty, though one of my friends got the falafels and I found myself lusting after them. For the main, I ordered the kleftiko, which was listed as the House Speciality. This was a large piece of tender slow cooked lamb with herbs, and I ordered this served with potatoes (though the option for rice was there). Now, although the menu described it as large, I wasn't quite prepared for how large! The serving was very generous indeed, and I had trouble finishing. It was so tender, and the meat fell away from the bone so easily. I'd definitely have it again, though may consider skipping starters next time. Finally, pushing the boundaries of our bloated tummies, after a bit of a break we opted to have dessert! I had paklava and ice cream, and the other two ordered the sticky toffee pudding. It was a super tasty treat, though I sorely regretted it later when I had the food baby waddle all the way home! Now, as for service... we were in the restaurant midweek and at first we were the only people in the upstairs area. In spite of this, we found that the service was slower than we'd have expected. In fact, a second group came in after all three of us were seated, and their orders were taken first, and their food also arrived before ours. We were also left to our own devices for quite a while after the food was finished... while we like that we weren't being rushed, we had to wait quite a while to get our bill. Not a big deal, we were chatting and having a good time, but it may have been problematic if we'd been in a rush. The staff were friendly and chatty, though, so I find it easier to forgive. All in, I would definitely be back. Just a few niggly bits, but I'm not sure that was typical of a normal evening. To a future visit! ^^

I was in a meaty kinda mood and when I get like that I usually head to a Greek or Persian…read morerestaurant for my fix. Tucked away on Bath Street just round the corner from the hustle and bustle of Buchanan Street sits this newly opened family run business. At fist sight, it didn't look all that inviting, perhaps a bit barren and empty even, with just the odd smattering of funky artwork on the wall and some rather plain and sad looking furniture. We arrived at 7pm and it was rather quiet with the stereo playing some Greek pop music. Fortunately after a half hour of so, the atmosphere picked up as the restaurant got busier. The menu looked good, with a range of hearty looking Greek grub, but I didn't really know what I wanted, it just had to contained grilled meat. So, I just asked for the traditional Greek Meze, which is a set meal and very popular in Greece. Surprisingly they didn't offer it, but the owner said it wouldn't be a problem to whip up his favourite dishes and do us a Meze style banquet for us. We polity accepted and waited for the food to arrive. We were treated to some really fantastic dishes. To kick things off; Saganaki Prawns, made with feta cheese and a deliciously rich and tasty tomato sauce. I think we polished off a couple of baskets of bread mopping up the splendid sauce. Furthermore, a wonderfully seasoned and fresh Greek salad and some grilled cheese with tomato and peppers. The main dished comprised of Gyros, which is a pork style kebab, delicious, and skewered, charcoal grilled lamb and chicken with the house's fresh, hand-cooked chips, yum! It fair to say, after all that meat, I spiralled into a deep meat-coma and was unresponsive to any form of chat or questions, hence agreeing to a desert when asked by the waitress. I went for the wonderful and rich Greek yoghurt with honey and walnuts to really finish me off. Fortunately our lovely meal meal wasn't ruined by Greek dancing nor the sound of smashing plates. This was an initial concern of mine as the restaurant is certainly big to accommodate this. Credit should also go to the father / daughter combo who work tirelessly in the kitchen and in attending to the customers needs quickly and with a smile. Oh, one more thing.........if your ever in town and fancy a tasty snack they do a wrapped Gyros to go for just £3.95, total bargain!

I am also sorry to report when something doesn't quite meet expectations. But that was the case for…read moreme at Yiamas. I came in for a late lunch--there were only a handful of people in the restaurant but everyone seemed happy enough with the food and immersed in either work they were doing or in the conversations they were having. It is a pleasant enough space (the 1st floor) and definitely has enough room for groups, which is a plus. However, the food was less than satisfactory. I ordered a pork souvalki, which unfortunately they were out of and had to settle for what I thought the next best option-a simple gyro pita. While the presentation was absolutely fine, the meat was just lathered in grease. It looked as though the fat had never been properly wiped off of the meat and that addition oil or maybe even butter had then been placed on top of the fat. There was also too much salt content--which suggests to me that the meat isn't at the quality it should be. Gyro is street food in Greece. But that doesn't make it greasy--it should not be greasy at all in fact. In Greece, the gyro meat stands alone, in that it is not covered in fat, oil, or salt. It is covered with an array of vegetables (which vary depending on the chef and vendor) but usually consists of fresh tomatoes, onions, sometimes fresh and sliced cucumbers, sometimes lettuce, always with potatoes (fries that are lightly fried), and always with a healthy amount Tzatziki. It is absolutely delicious and frankly, should be filling but should not make you feel sick (unless you over eat!) Perhaps Yiamas other food options are better. But on principal, I am not a fan of an establishment that has loads of grease on any of their food items--not a good precedent. On another unfortunate note, I do need to mention that the bathroom did not seem to be properly cleaned as it had a terrible odor. This definitely could have been just an unfortunate and one-time problem but it was an issue on my visit. On a better note however, the staff was nice and helpful--there was very little tzatziki on the gyro and they immediately gave me more when I mentioned it to them. As other reviewers mention as well, the food is reasonably priced. So in the event that the other foods on the menu are have less salt and grease, perhaps it will amount to a better experience.

We loved this restaurant and enjoyed all our dishes. The good thing about small plates, at modest prices, is if a member of your party doesn't care for a dish it's no big deal. The salads, the kebabs, the dips, the seafood... everything was first rate as was the service. Only dish that faltered (and we had 10 among four of us) was the moussaka. Terrific meal! They need to pay more attention to their Yelp listing - there's a full bar, excellent cocktails, and they take credit cards - despite the Yelp listing.

As I get further into my twenties, I've found that restaurants have an increasing tendency to play their music very loud. I'm sorry, and call me old fashioned, but one of the main things about going out for dinner is that you are there to have a conversation with the person you are with. I'm not there to get my groove on. Anyway, I digress. I really enjoy Greek/Turkish and Middle Eastern Food which is what this place specialises in. We chose some mezze plates including the chicken souvlaki, soutzoukakia (meatballs), the Moroccan Chicken Tagine and the Loukaniko. It was mouth watering. It was great value too, the portion sizes were manageable and we left very happy customers.

She did a cracking job and it was a great introduction for a meal out in Stirling. I'm not a biggest fan of Mediterranean food but I do enjoy certain aspects to it and I'm always up for trying different flavours and foods. There was seven of us in total and I was unsure what to go for so an excellent mutual decision was made to go for the Chef's Selection for £14.95 each, which allowed you to try lots of options from their menu. This was a brilliant idea so if there was something I wasn't too keen on there was someone else happy to munch in, so nothing went to waste. There was so many courses, I forgot how many there was that it felt like a never ending amount of food came to our table. It was awesome! My favourite was the wee cheeky side order I had of halloumi but make sure you get the lutza halloumi as it comes with pork medallions. Yum! The chorizo was the best I've ever tasted, I'm not the greatest fan but the way it was cooked made it really tasty. We had falafel, chicken wings, lamb kofte, olives, hummus, lots of pita bread, Greek gyros and baba ghanoush. By the last course though I had to force myself, I think I may have had too many helpings of pita and hummus. Ooops! But is tasted so goooood. It's an alternative meal out with good quality food and the staff are lovely. We did have a few waits in between courses but then it's a popular restaurant but with good company and banter it didn't seem so bad. Thanks again to Nicola C. and look forward to the next Stirling UYE. Nudge nudge, wink wink! Hehe!

On the corner of Bellshill Main Street is not the place you'd expect to find an authentic Greek restaurant, but don't let that put you off. Inside the decor is standard, nothing special, but the food does the talking. Whilst looking through the menu, we were brought some lovely fresh bread, butter, olives and some oil and balsamic (which we duly inhaled). I could've ordered everything as it all sounded so delicious. I started with 'Pastourma' - Greek village sausage with a Mango salad. The sausage its self was spicy and quite dense, similar to a chorizo. It was delicious and paired beautifully with the unusual combo of Mango salad. For main, myself and my 2 friends all went for the Lamb Gyros. The lamb was absolutely meltingly tender. The pitta was doused in oil and Greek herbs and was sooooo tasty. Served with Tzatziki (oh the Tzatziki!!!!) and salsa, it was so authentic and delicious! I couldn't finish it, although I truly wanted to! We had sides of Tzatziki with dip, which I love anyway, but this was just extra special. So creamy and garlicky and just divine. We couldn't possibly fit in puddings, but they do a small Greek selection. The only thing that could have improved my meal was a round of Mythos (being pregnant this wasn't to be :(! But I cannot wait to go back and get my next Greek fix!!
