Just back from a meal here with my friend. We decided to go here on a whim before we went to Cineworld.
I like Di Maggio's as a rule anyway, although if I had a choice I would probably pick an Italian that was a little less commercialised. Di Maggio's is like the TGI Fridays of the Italian food chain world, and that puts me off slightly.
It was really, really busy in here, even though it was only half past five. We were lucky to get a table and it busied up even more by the time we left, the place was packed. I suppose the fact that its actually joined onto a hotel makes it a popular place for customers to go for dinner.
We were seated at a really small table which was in close proximity to the kitchen, and offered two menus along with two paper menus, which offered a two course menu for £12.95, which was a good offer, but I didn't fancy anything on it so we chose from the big menus.
When it comes to Di Maggio's, I am a creature of habit and I usually order the same thing. I decided on mozzarella cubes for starter, and Rigatoni Gamberoni for my main. The staff seemed incredibly flustered, but our starters arrived very quickly and were piping hot and tasty as ever. The mains followed a few minutes later. My rigatoni had quite a few big prawns in it, with a nice tomatoey sauce and slices of red onion (which I picked out), carrot, pepper and celery. I also ordered garlic bread, which wasn't so good, It was dry and didn't particularly taste of garlic at all. Not impressed. The meal was nice though.
It was so hot in here! The staff seemed so rushed, but were very helpful and polite. The boss seemed a bit of a tyrant though and I caught him telling off a waitress whilst she was serving customers. Not a good thing to witness, I consider that very rude.
The experience was good overall. I can't really fault the food other than the bread. The service was good, just a little tarnished by what I witnessed from the boss. The restaurant was so hot though, it almost ruined my meal. Word of warning, don't sit next to the kitchen! read more
