Went to Best Buy to purchase a desktop. I didn't really need any help, thankfully, as I had done my research beforehand. I got there, found what I wanted, and was about to leave, happy, when I overheard a conversation that really pissed me off. A young woman and her boyfriend/husband were in BB buying her a desktop. Neither knew much about computers, it was clear, and she said she was only using it for school, so lots of papers, some PowerPoint presentations, maybe some internet research. I immediately thought that she would benefit from what I was buying. An HP, 6 GB, 1 TB, wireless, under $400 on sale. Simple, effective, fast enough. Then the BB rep started speaking. "What you need is one of these desktops that has the 16GB hard-drive, and at least 1 TB memory, more would be better. The 4 GB are just about worthless, you can't do much on them, they are super-slow and if you have more than one program up at a time you'll really see a difference. The 8 GB aren't much better, but they're being phased out because it's just not as fast as people need it to be. Another year or two and you won't even see anything below a 16 GB. Now, for your needs, you absolutely need a 16 GB hard-drive. That computer will be fast, you can have multiple programs up with no delays, and it's not that much more expensive. I'm not making commission on what you buy, so I have no reason to try to up-sell you. I just want to make sure you get a computer that's going to be what you really need." WHA???? First of all, I just read a report in Consumers Reports as well as saw a computer blog that did a test on various desktop's to review their speed and they proved, conclusively, that the difference between a 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB hard-drive for normal, every day use (like a student), is negligible. The only time you would need something as fast as a 16 GB is if you were a gamer, or if you watched a lot of movies (maybe). When he walked away I made a comment to the BF/Hubby that he was full of s**t and that 4-6 GB is more than enough for a normal computer user. Not sure what they did, but I left REALLY glad this guy didn't try that speech on me. He would have heard an earful. Secondly, the BS that BB reps don't get a commission is absolutely laughable. Sure, you may not get a percentage of what you make but every sales rep in every store like Best Buy gets better rewards, gets bonuses, etc, based on what they sell, how much they sell, and their percentages are kept track of. Trust me. I can only imagine that September was the month of selling desktops with 16GB hard-drives. Sell 4 or more in a week and you get $100 extra in your check....that's not unusual in retail. Does anyone really believe that joke of a speech? I don't get a commission, so you can trust me. You don't look fat in that dress at all! Best Buy....for shame. i am not happy with best buy-- i returned a portable radio that i had bought as a gift and when i had to return it, i was told i could not get a refund on my credit card, only a gift card. I went in to this store for the first time as I just recently moved. I am a teacher who bought a laptop quickly in April when my old computer wasn't too compatible with Zoom. Granted it was a cheaper laptop, but it did run very slow. I used it for the spring, and knew it had to be upgraded or RAM added, or something. I went in the geek squad and was helped by a younger gentlemen who quickly listened to my concerns of wanting to make my computer faster. He barely even took a look at it and said there was nothing he could do. I found that odd because he didn't even look at the type of computer or model or anything. He simply suggested a different antivirus. So, Just as a medical patient would, I got a second option. I went to Brick computers in Rowley and was told I could add DOUBLE the RAM, and would make it a bit faster. He got it done in 1/2 of a day and it's a bit faster and more compatible now. Will NOT BE GOING BACK TO BEST BUY FOR COMPUTER ADVICE OR REPAIR. read more

Great place with good prices. Unfortunately the staff members are a bit off queue when it comes to customer service. During my pick up order, management and staff member named Lisell was flirting with each other while taking my order request. Meanwhile, ignoring me as the customer. Rudely, asked me if I know my order number off the top of my head. Additionally, their phone staff members like to undermine the knowledge of their customers and speaks insultingly to perhaps increase their ego. Try the Saugus location. BEWARE ALL, 15 DAY RETURN PLOICY, and this store holds you to the day! Bot a $600 radar detector that does not work. Snarky customer service rep quoted their return policy. They claim to "have it posted on the doors, front and back and your receipt". I could not find it on the door and definitely not on my receipt. I asked for manager. Manager came over and I suggested I was only late by one week and that the product does not work. I also suggested that it was Christmas season, and how could they impose a 15 day return policy. I received the same uncooperative rude service from the manager. I suggested that this was short sighted of them as it was Christmas and I am just beginning my shopping for a large family. I am only giving 5 stars for the mobile department. I had a problem with my cell phone last night, for some reason it lost service and i couldn't get it back, and the sprint store could help me, cause they had nobody in the tech department available til Saturday. I went to Best buy, and was helped with in 10 minutes of arriving to the store. The representative called sprint on my behalf (i had no other phone to call them on myself) and worked with them to get my phone fixed. I will be going to the mobile area for any phone situations from now on. Also if your cell provider doesn't offer "free" phones on upgrades, go to Best buy. All you pay is sales tax on the original price of the phone you are buying, and if you trade in your old phone, usually that covers the tax and you walk out of there with a free phone on you upgrade!! read more

I've been having a pretty bad experience there the last few times I visited. I bought a google home WiFi 3 pack today and there was a promo that said free google home mini with purchase. When I went to check out as asked for my google home mini the manager said she won't honor it because the sign isn't up anymore. That's very unacceptable because it was there when I grabbed the pack of the shelf. I bought a remote car starter around Christmas, they were booked out until March for installation, was unable to make the appointment so I canceled. The following winter they were booked out again, so I just tried to return it. They would not even give me store credit because it was outside their return policy. But it's outside the return policy because I could never get an appointment to have the product installed. How does that make sense? read more

I brought a brand new computer asked them to scan the flash drives for viruses before installing them with their Webroot antivirus The 10 minute set up lasted 30 minutes I got the computer home scanned a few files and was alerted there are infected files. I have ordered a TV online from Best Buy. I simply called to confirm a pick up date and the automated phone options keep you in a loop and on hold for 15+ minutes. The phone was answered by a disgruntled young gentleman who should not be answering the phone for your establishment or any establishment. Do they have a bunch of stuff? Yes. Is it pretty easy to find what you want? Pretty much. Is it quick to go in and out? No. Dispite it being a HUGE store, even on a friday night there's just one employee working a register even though there's a line built up and there's a 10 minute transaction going on. And there's no clear direction on how to enter the line, just a roped off section with three points of entry. Screw this place, and Target next door, they're too cheap to spend money on more employees to work the registers and help you get in and out- yet there's 2 guys standing by the exit ready to make sure you don't steal from them. BTW, I had no patience with them and just dumped off the video game I was gonna buy cause their stupid line was ridiculous. And this really was the last chance i'd have to get a purchase from them before the holiday season starts up and it takes even longer to get thru . read more

I'm making a Yelp account just so I can let everyone know what a complete joke this store is. I went in one day to purchase a smart remote to control my entertainment system and after standing there by myself looking at them for about 10 minutes someone finally came over and asked if I had any questions. I asked what I thought were pretty standard questions "will it control such and such device..." and things like that. The person working was very polite and let me know that it wasn't his section but he'd try to help me anyway, however after a few questions we both realized he didn't have the answers I needed and he went back to his section. I went to the Magnolia section hoping to find someone knowledgeable there and another 10 minutes of waiting later another rep came up to me who seemed to know what he was talking about. He answered all my questions confidently and helped me decide between the two remotes I was looking it. A main consideration being one of them they were out of stock on, however he said they were on a truck which would arrive either that night or the next morning. He told me how to set up the remote with "just plug it in your computer and follow the steps" so it seemed easy enough. I get home with my $250 remote and could not for the life of me get it programmed, I called the manufacturer's tech support and they told me that the customer CAN'T program and that Best Buy's Geek Squad has to come install it. I go back to the store to return it and they could only give me store credit because I partially paid for it with a prepaid visa card which the rep threw out having depleted it, the customer service rep said "oh he shouldn't have done that so now I can only refund you store credit" so now Best Buy screwed up and gave me bad information and then held my money hostage so I couldn't get it back but instead had to keep it in their poorly trained store. I go back to the TV dept and ask about the item which was out of stock the previous day and not only do they still not have it in stock but say that there wasn't any on their way either. So to recap the magnolia rep: -Gave me the incorrect information on how to setup the deice - Made it so I couldn't get a refund other than store credit - Lied about their inventory/shipping While my exchange was being processed I inquired about a remote car starter (the rep I was working with claimed to used to work in that section) who again SEEMED knowledgeable and gave me a quote for a basic kit and installation around $230-250. I went back a couple of weeks later ready to make that purchase and even though it was only 5:00pm on a Friday night the staff was non-existent. I waited for over 45 minutes and asked FOUR different employees if they could find someone for me to help in that department before the customer service desk finally realized "oh there's noone there, but if you go to the TV section they can help you with that stuff." The same TV section that did such a good job before... I go to that department and wait for the only rep to finish with his customers and ask again some basic questions "what's the range, how long until it auto turns off, what's the warranty" and he couldn't field any of those questions. I actually felt bad for the rep who tried to help me, he clearly was never given any training other than how to ring something up. He was very polite and friendly but his management staff had clearly failed him in his training as seems to be the case with every Best Buy employee. The lowest price he could quote me, after I gave him the same information I gave the rep the earlier visit, was about $200 higher than the first quote I got. Between the pricing inconsistencies and lack of product understanding I opted not to make any purchase there. If I had my way I wouldn't have bought the remote their either but like I said, they held my money hostage. Sorry for the rant... but whether it's the entire company or this particular store's management the training here is an absolute joke. I wouldn't go here for anything more complicated than a movie or a pair of headphones. Friendly and polite reps doesn't make up for a complete lack of product knowledge that wastes your customer's time. read more

My family has used Best Buy Mobile at this location for many years, and after the poor service we received recently, we will no longer be using this location to purchase our phones, nor will we be recommending anybody to this store. The associate, Jared told us that he was not able to see if I were eligible for an upgrade and that he could only see that I was eligible for Sprint's new plan, one that did not make financial sense for us. I informed him that I was having trouble with my phone and that it was important that I repair it or use my upgrade. His response was that we should go to the Apple Store and have them repair or upgrade the phone (implying that he wasn't interested in helping us). The next day, we went to the Salem, NH location, and oddly enough they were able to exactly what Jared claimed he could not do. They checked the status of my upgrade and I walked out of the store with a new phone within 30 minutes Not to mention the associates at Salem "knew who (the Danvers associate) was" which tells me that I'm not the only one who's had the displeasure of working with this lazy employee. I will NEVER buy anything at Best Buy again. There are too many similar stores with better and more reasonable policies. Received a Fit Bit for Chrismas but already had one. I never even opened the package. Tried to return it on 2/16/14 with the sales slip, only to have the customer service girl and the rudest sales manager to refuse a refund. All that I requested was a store credit. I tried to explain the rationale that I would use the store credit for a future purpose, however , all that I got was "parrot" repeating over and over that I had expired their policy limit for returns. Update to my update. My battery life on my replacement phone was awful and a friend suggested that I go to the Apple store as the battery life on the Iphone 5 was the biggest problem with the phone and I might be able to get a free battery from the Apple store. When the tech at the Apple store looked at the back of my REPLACEMENT phone, he noticed that there were no markings, i.e. no IMEI (which is how Apple is able to identify the phone). The employee at Apple explained due to not having these markings Apple is unable to assist me as Best Buy's replacement phone may not have Apple pieces inside. Needless to say I was very upset. The tech at the Apple store suggested I head right back to Best Buy and speak to them. So, now I go to Best Buy and I explain the situation to the manager of the Mobile devices. He was very helpful & had a tech on the Geek Squad who would be able to switch out the battery for me but Best Buy had no I-Phone 5 Batteries in their store or surrounding stores. He suggested I buy my own battery (which I did) and bring it back. I brought it back and the tech, I think switched out. The manager wasn't in and the counter help at the Geek Squad just handed my phone back to me without even mentioning if the battery was ever switched. The battery life still stinks. Well seeing the ratings for this place helps me justify the terrible managers here at this store (not including ALL employees, some were very friendly and helpful) One of the managers (some Italian clown with a dress shirt on so assuming "manager") asked if I needed help and my girlfriend asked him about the best option for a flat screen and he gave her attitude as well as being arrogant to the questions she was asking (almost as if she was dumb yet didn't realize she is a doctor) If your trying to sell a product, at least act friendly and be informative whether you think the question is "dumb" or not. This is a complaint regarding false information that was presented to me when making a purchase for appliances with Best Buy. The initial encounter (from the Danvers, Ma location), was very pleasant, as he helped me with the price match for my appliances. GE had a rebate offer at that time, which stated, "Get $1000 back when purchasing 4 appliances." I was told that I qualify for that rebate. Then, I was told if I open a Best Buy Credit Card, I would be eligible for 18 months interest free as well as 10% back on my purchase. I decided to go with the offer and make the purchase. I finally had my appliances delivered. I called GE for the rebate and was told I do not qualify since it was a Best Buy purchase. I decided to not bring it up and just forget about it. I had made 3 phone calls throughout the month of January regarding my 10% back. All three times I was told, not to worry and give it 2-3 weeks and the points would then reflect on my rewards. I also emailed the employee who I initially dealt with, he told me to give it 15-20 days. I was confident about it. I called customer service (on 2/6/17), to be told I don't qualify for the 10% back, due to the fact that I was receiving the 18 months interest free. This was never mentioned to me once, not when I spoke to Danvers employee or the other customer service associates. I spent a little over $10,000 at Best Buy and feel that I was given false information, just so that they can make a sale. I am furious, and I never write reveiws but I feel the customer service reflects very poorly on this company. read more

Called Best Buy Danvers in December to ask if my Ninja coffee maker was still under warranty (the pot broke). I was told it was and to just come in and they would replace it. Fast forward to January 23rd (craziness of the holidays with two kids and planning my wedding it took me a bit). I brought my Ninja to the register where I was informed they did not have the model anymore but could get something of equal value or use the credit towards something more expensive. I went to the aisle and chose a new Ninja and brought it back to the clerk. I was then told I missed my warranty window by 6 weeks. It expired December 15th. I expressed some frustration because I believed when I called the person on the phone should have stressed the urgency to come in. The clerk told me he would get his manager and she could most likely override it. The manager now comes over her name was Pam and said very quickly there was nothing she could to do override it and offered me 10% off. 10% off my $150 coffee maker that should have been replaced for free? No thank you. Her customer service skills were horrendous. We will not be purchasing from Best Buy anymore. In 2018 alone we have spent over 4k at your store and this is the thanks we get. Feeling , frustrated, disappointed... Paid a very large amount of $$$for a full appliance package at BEST BuY to be delivered TODAY from 8-12... got changed to 12-4.... received a call while out this morning that ONE of the appliances didn't make the delivery.... really? Why? Not sure... missed the call from the driver at 3:53 that the driver were 15 mins away... make sure door open, paced the floor looking out every 2 mins. Missed another call at 4:30 that the delivery people are in front of my house and can only stay 15 minutes.... we(3) of us never left the house ... tried both numbers, delivery guy and Center, no answer, no call back. no one came because door open and I've been pacing ... still no appliance ... talked to the store, customer care... asked to speak with a manager... got transferred to New Mexico... 6:10..,, no appliances... no phone call back... all old appliance disassembled.... I want to cry... They said they would compensate me... really... spent my day waiting... no grocery shopping because em waiting for new fridge... no stove.. no dishwasher.. no microwave..now 10:00 pm and still no follow up call from "Customer Care". I have a long history of bumping into condescending Best Buy staff. They are usually high school kids and twenty somethings who seem to have an inflated opinion of themselves and a very low opinion of Best Buy customers. When you need them they are nowhere to be found,and when they find you they are sarcastic and sometimes outright patronizing. It's almost like some of those morons think that working retail at an electronics store makes them geniuses. But geniuses compared to whom? Walmart staff? Things have not changed and probably never will. My only hope is that this Best Buy will compete with its new next door neighbor (Ultimate Electronics) and hire friendly staff or better train its existing staff. read more

I usually don't write reviews about businesses, but I after reading some of these, I would like to comment. Like many businesses, a retail shopping experiences is greatly affected by who helps you and how knowledgeable they are (and how knowledgeable you are!) When I was ready to buy a TV, I stopped at Sears first. I'd seen a great deal on a 32" from Father's Day weekend. The salesman wasn't aware of the previous ad, even though the sale has just ended the day before... but knew which TV it was. It was back up in price...(sale price was $120 off). My smart phone wasn't getting a good signal, so he offered to let me use the store's computer (on my own no less!) to check for any competitor's price. He was ready and willing to price match, although he never gave me any useful information about any of the particular models they sold (which was a very small selection) and seemed to be put out for having to deal with an uneducated woman. He was very young and seemed to have better things to do (like check his text messages). I walked around to give it some thought and when I came back, he had stepped away. Another salesman (not working in that department) approached me and asked if I needed help. Although he worked in the washing machines, he assured me could answer any questions because he used to work in electronics. He gave me his opinion, great advice and information about a few of the models they carried. He had nothing to gain, but decided to be a kind and helpful salesperson just the same. If he worked in that department, I would have definitely purchased a TV from him because of his expertise. Long story short, I bought the TV from my original salesperson, but ultimately I was not satisfied with his attitude and demeanor. Personality, willingness to be helpful and knowledge go a long way towards making someone happy with their shopping experience. Needless to say, I had to return the TV because of a manufacturer defect. Enough about Sears. So, I decided to start over and this time took a different approach. I went online to get some information and knowledge. After doing research comparing different models and prices, I narrowed it down to about four TVs. Armed with my knowledge, I went into Best Buy and found a salesperson that was available. I asked him to show me the TVs I was interested in and help me compare. Having that knowledge helped...my notes were thorough and I had written down all model numbers, prices and stores that carried them. I knew Best Buy does price match. After having those basic facts, it was more or less a matter of comparing the picture quality and any other features I may have not considered. Who would have known that the original TV I purchased had no audio input connection? After what was only ten minutes, I purchased my TV from my Best Buy salesperson. Not because he was great, had a wonderful personality and because he was efficient. Don't get me wrong... he was all those things. But because I had done some research, I think he was actually relieved he didn't have to spend much time with me and it was the easiest sale for him! Here's what I did take away from my TV buying experience at Best Buy... Yes, it's super frustrating to have to wait on hold when calling Best Buy. I just called to ask a recycling question (like what to do with my old TV) and twenty minutes later someone finally answered. Maybe those reviewers are right...they are short staffed. But I'm trying to look on the bright side. If I can drop off my old TV at Best Buy, I won't have to pay $25 to have my trash company take it away. Did I mention my cousin gave me an old TV that I have to get rid of also? Tally another $25 dollars saved. Last but not least... picking up my TV was a breeze! It was in stock and I mentioned to my Best Buy salesman that I was going to see my friend in NH and...could I pick it up there? Sure, he said...as he price matched and charged me no sales tax. What could be better? When I arrived at the store in NH, no one was in the pickup line. They brought it out super promptly on a dolly. Yes, and both the gal at pickup and the fellow that brought it out had a smile and wished me a good day! read more

I had been researching TVS via reviews etc and decided to check out Best Buy in Danvers...I had been checked out a couple of other stores as I wanted to see them live but was still open to brands. Casey Q helped me and was excellent. I am not technical and he was able to show and explain the diferences etc even though I was not ready to buy yet. Understaffed, unorganized, always out of stock. I love Best Buy! I hate going to this Best Buy... which is unfortunately the closest one to me. So, usually I go out of my way to go to a different location. It is next to impossible to get someone to help you. I used to feel bad for the employees because it's obvious they are understaffed. But after dozens of disappointing trips I've come to notice that lots of times you will find a group of employees at the end of an aisle chatting it up, meanwhile you've been looking for someone to help you for 10 minutes. If you ever have to call this place, good luck!!! It's 1 out of 10 times they'll answer. I've done ship to store a bunch of times. Twice I've received emails that my orders ready. Then I get there and they say it isn't and to come back. Both times, it turns out, the employees just didn't feel like looking hard enough because it was there all along. Once I asked if someone could help me bring a large, heavy purchase to my car and they said that they weren't allowed to and gave me a dolly thingy to push it out on. Geek Squad is great if you are under warranty, however if you are a paying customer, they will charge you through the nose for repairs. It's much like Apple for a Samsung Galaxy, no one will fix them. Geek Squad has to send them out to NY and they were going to charge me $150.00 for a screen, that's pretty much standard. The reason why these parts are so expensive is because the manufacturers fight to control the parts so mom and pop stores can't do the repairs, much like the Auto Dealerships and the right to repair bill. So back to the tablet, labor was $150.00, parts another 170.00 and I had to pay $35.00 up front to send it out. Now you do the math. I can actually purchase a new one for cheaper than it would cost to fix the screen. I said can you tell me what you are charging me per hour for labor. No, we don't know that, its a flat rate. Can you tell me how long it takes to repair a screen. No we don't know. Is there someone who does know. They patch me through into a call loop and I don't can answer from anyone. The last guy said I'd be better off, just buying a new tablet. Of course this is what they want. They want to make the repairs so costly you just toss the old on to them so they can refurbish it for resale and buy a new one from them. This is the cycle of consumerism. There should be laws against these over inflated repair costs and monopolizing the repair industry. They have consumers over a barrel and they know it. Disgusting. I was able to repair a lap top with a cracked screen and other issues including viruses, for less than it was going to cost me just to replace a screen. For all the devices that don't get refurbished but wind up taking up spaces in landfills, I don't believe any high end Environmental Groups really care about the environment or they would be lobbying to stop this practice and allow for competition in the industry. read more

I still cannot figure out HOW ON EARTH this store operates. All I can say is that I am amazed they are still in business. I purchased a dishwasher a few weeks ago and scheduled the delivery for the following Saturday from 12 to 4 PM. I was told I would be getting a call the night before to confirm the delivery, The phone call never happened so I called customer service in the morning to inquire and they assured me the delivery time was confirmed for that same afternoon. They never came or even bothered to call. I called my salesperson and he told me he would "escalate" my case. The "escalation agent" called me three days later and promised me they would be delivering the dishwasher on the following Saturday from 8 to 12, and that I would be getting a phone call the night before. Once again, the phone call never happened so I called customer service in the morning and after being put on hold for 45 minutes,listening to some unbearable heavy metal music, the agent confirmed they be delivering my dishwasher before 12 and that they would call me about 30 minutes before their estimated arrival time.
