I think this is the tiniest Costco I have ever seen. The parking lot is large in comparison to the size of the warehouse. Plenty of spaces available. This location also has a fuel station which was packed when I arrived. I was here a few days before Christmas and the warehouse was not as busy as I expected. It was very easy to navigate - I could see the back of the building from the front entrance. I live 20 minutes away and I was able to drive there, shop and drive back in an hour and 10 minutes. I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding my experience today at Costco during checkout. While waiting in line, I noticed that the cashier at Lane 7 was available with no items on the counter. Since the line I was in was moving slowly, I politely asked the cashier if I could check out there, and he agreed. Based on that, I moved my cart over. Shortly after, an employee assisting with pre-checkout (name: Andres) confronted me and said, "Didn't you see me standing here?" I immediately apologized and explained that I had asked the cashier for permission. Despite my apology, he became visibly upset and insisted that I should have asked him instead. Even after I complied and moved my cart to another register, he continued making comments toward me, which I found unnecessary, disrespectful, and unprofessional. What should have been a minor misunderstanding escalated unnecessarily. I was already apologetic, yet his continued remarks made me feel targeted and humiliated. I was so distressed at the time that my voice was shaking while I spoke. I attempted to speak with a manager but was told the manager was unavailable. A supervisor was present nearby during the incident but did not step in. Later, at the customer service desk, the supervisor came over, and I realized she had been there the entire time. She said she would speak with Andres; however, after waiting for a period of time, there was no follow-up or resolution provided to me. Additionally, when I explained the situation at the service desk, I was immediately accused of cutting in line, without any effort to understand what had actually happened. This response felt dismissive and unfair. I also requested a complaint form at the time, but I was told repeatedly that the forms were locked in a drawer and that the manager is the only one had a key. I find this explanation unacceptable, as it effectively prevented me from filing a complaint on-site. During the interaction, when I expressed that I felt I was being treated unfairly and possibly discriminated against, I was told that discrimination was not possible because the employee involved is Hispanic. I found this response inappropriate and concerning. Discrimination is not limited to any single group, and dismissing my concern in this way only added to my distress. I firmly believe that this situation would not have escalated in the same way under different circumstances. What began as a small and unintentional mistake turned into a deeply uncomfortable experience, where I felt unsupported and unfairly treated throughout. As a paying customer, I expect to be treated with basic respect and professionalism. Instead, I left feeling upset, dismissed, and without any meaningful assistance. The parking lot at this location is a nightmare even when it is not busy. While that may unavoidable when I went yo go in they had no carts at the door and no staff out getting them. The greeter was telling confused people to go just look for carts randomly. Inside the store the bathroom was disgusting with dried human excrement. On the way out it took over 5 minutes of standing in line to leave. When I finally was near the door another receipt checker showed up but instead if helping who was next she helped people from the back of the line she seemed very friendly with while the rest of us continued to stand in line. There seemed to be a lot of people on inside the store, managers were just chatting and there were no lines at the register. Costco can be a wild place so I will tolerate a certain amount if that but this seems like a badly managed store. Awful selection of plants I'll start with that. Just a terrible selection of everything altogether! Anyway, I've only been here one other time although I've had a Costco membership for quite some time now. I typically go to BJ's and have never have an issue. I'm trying to check out today. I got two plants, a set of bowls and a pair of sandals. I put my JetBlue card in and it kept saying , " not accepted." After five minutes one of the rudest employees I've ever encountered in my 47 years of life came over and proceeded to explain to me super fast to the point where I couldn't understand what she was saying how they only accepted Visa or debit. It took a couple of minutes to register what she was actually saying and so then I said well what about cash and she said we don't accept cash! So the only thing they accept for a form of payment is Visa that's absurd! She was so rude and I said you know what this is why I go to BJ's and she goes good. Go there never again Costco. Been going to Costco lately and its always fun to discover things and new food there. Snack for my son for school and a lot more. Drinks have a pretty good selections too and the pastries as well. I would say prices are moderate. You will find some on the expensive side but you get a whole bunch anyway so I guess it is worth it if you love what you are buying. Hate shopping at Costco Danvers. The staff are rude and indifferent. Asked 3 different people where to find a product and no one knew. The last woman said, "if you can't find it, we don't have it." I bought 2 pair of prescription glasses. When I went to pick them up I was the only one in the dept. The woman asked whether I had taken a number? I said, "no, the last time I was here the machine was down." She said, "well it works now." I believe she is the manager of the Optical Department. I absolutely love receiving flowers, but getting them online is guaranteed to be $49.99 above... here at Costco, I'm able to get the same thing for $18.99. Just add a nice vase I have on hand and some DIY stem trimmings and DIY flower arrangements and it looks absolutely stunning. I always like to go to Costco. This is a particularly small one compared to the one I usually go to. Costco is cracking down on making sure you are the owner of the Costco card. I saw someone get kicked out of the self check out line because she had her mother's card and they said it has to be you. So like Netflix everyone beware! We were able to get so many great items here including some beauty items that had more money off, so that was a plus. They even have a liquor store attached and we were able to get the Kirkland vodka which is excellent. We are able to freeze a lot of the foods and we do feel the product is worth it! You may spend more up front but in the end it is more bang from the buck! We bought salmon, spinach, blueberries, strawberries, a great Nespresso maker (for a fraction of the cost), cucumbers, tomatoes and more! Costco is great. Also, we ended up meeting a fellow Cornelian (my husband was wearing the Cornell sweatshirt so someone asked him if he went to Cornell and he said no but my wife did) and with that I got into this whole conversation with the Cornelian! I find that one has to comparison shop to find the best deals and at least I have BJ's membership also cause I find Costco are more expensive than The other boxed store for the same item, I intend to shop here but realistically I know my products and go back to the other to shop. Take for example this location has no FAT FREE MILK- automatically I head to BJ's! That's only one of several items that it is helpful to have both.. but I do find I get more for my money and more items I can utilize in my own home at BJ BUT Costco has its merits! I don't see the point showing my membership card when I first ENTER...very unproductive to have a person just stand there policing it's members! Many times I have walked in with card in hand and the person at the door is having conversations with whom ever and then I am 20 feet away will yell at me to see my card! My review is about an interaction I witnessed at the customer service counter between a supervisor and a young female staff member. I have been playing the scenario in my head and regret not saying anything to the supervisor. I felt like I was on an episode of What would you do and John Quinones was going to come out and ask me why I didn't speak up. Allow me to explain.. I was at the service counter getting help with a transaction when the young woman who was helping me (prob in her 20's, blonde, very friendly and approachable) looks over to her supervisor (a much older, bald man), who was leaning over the counter, and said, "I need an override" He continues to look at her but does nothing. She asks again. He looks at her and says, "Well, that depends... how much do you love me? ". The young lady didn't respond and laughed it off but her body language said otherwise. He eventually completed the transaction. As I replay this scenario in my head, I regret not speaking up on behalf of the girl. I also regret not telling her to never let an old man (or any human) talk to her that way. He was clearly harassing her, and nobody spoke up against it. (there were 2 other staff members, there, another guy and an older lady). Anyway, I don't want anyone to get fired over this but I felt very uncomfortable and hope that Costco has some employee policies that prevent harassment in the workplace. Went in today to get a membership and pick up a whole bunch of stuff. The member service person who processed our membership was very nice, and did a thorough job explaining the member perks. We picked up quite a bit of stuff on our trip. Included was one 6 pack of muffins from the bakery, and one 6 pack of bagels. When we got to checkout, the cashier asked us if we got the second pack of muffins and second pack of bagels because it was a 2 for 1 deal. I said no. He instructed me to go back and get the second pack of bagels and muffins. I told him the one pack each was fine. I was then told it has to be 2 packs of each or I can't buy them. I told him to just take them off the order then. If you need to buy 2 packs of each, then sell them as a 2 pack. Im not interested in eating or wasting all that food, and not letting me buy an item because you think I should have doubled it is ridiculous. I write of my experiences in general at Costco. Costco is the best, and we go out of our way to shop there. We now live in Maine and have driven two hours in each direction to shop at the Danvers, MA and Nashua, NH stores. The trips are well worth it, although given the amount of driving involved we tend to stock up (and drop a bundle) each time so as not to have to drive there regularly. The prices are exceptionally reasonable (especially nowadays) and the selection of foods and products mostly address our needs. We have been waiting for the entire time we've lived in Maine (almost 1-1/2-years as of this writing) for Costco to come to Maine, and it appears we'll finally have a local Costco next month - just in time for holiday shopping! We are confirmed Costco members, and USUALLY find no fault with any aspect of the experience. BUT, on those occasions when there has been an issue, I do not hesitate to drop a letter (not an email or other quicker form of communication) to Costco's CEO, Craig Jelinek. (Personally, I would have written to him immediately about the sexual harassment case I read about below.) Never once has any situation I've complained about - and there have been several over the years - been resolved in a way that I wasn't completely happy with. (This includes a situation in which a pharmacy clerk was exceptionally rude to myself and my spouse, and my letter resulted in her being demoted to general checkout permanently. From what I learned, working in the pharmacy was considered a prime and extremely desirable area in which to work.) read more

I've been shopping at Costco for years now and the level of professionalism and respect from management has significantly decreased. The managers at Costco in Danvers ma speak to customers and employees HORRIBLY. One of the managers ..Vicky is a TYRANT!! I was harassed by her at self check out and spoken to in a very inappropriate manner...over my membership card...which was active and I had the card but she kept saying I needed to show her over and over and asking for my ID and saying it wasn't me in the picture ...it was so embarrassing and bizarre. After she berated me she went back over to the normal check registers and was yelling at her employees and speaking to them in the same manner ! A good company starts with a good staff and this place should be the model for all other companies/stores. From the greater at the door to the employees straightening up the clothes, the people giving out samples to the cashiers I find all who work here to be a pleasure to deal with. Costco sells their own brand of goods under the name Kirkland and thousands of items under the known brand names, Heinz, Charmin, Bounty, HP, Sony, etc. It is tough with electronics to get reviews because many of their items are given specific model numbers just for them. However, their return policy is very liberal on all items. Aside from electronics which have a 90 day warranty all other items can be returned at any time for whatever reason. It is sad but I have seen the most pathetic of returns and the employees don't take it personally or give the "member" an issue but take the item back. The food court is very good and while pizzas can be ordered and ready within 10 minutes for carryout. They have expanded their menu to have several different selections but the best deal is still the hot dog and soda with free refills for under a $1.60. The optical department has the absolute lowest prices around and honestly is worth joining just to get glasses if you need them. My mother were progressive lenses that she was quoted over $600 at her local eye care shop and Costco was under $150 for the same caliber materials including polarization, Crizal and whatever else sunglasses come with. They also have name brand frames in the store as well. Bill, the assistant store manager is a great guy, always looking to help out his team members and customers. Dianne, in the optical department is a great lady with a great sense of style in optical. The pharmacy also can in many cases save you tons of money, you just have to price out the RX, from a major pharmacy, mail order and Costco to see which is the best route for you. I have never dealt with the tire center but I would assume that the pricing is competitive but I am not sure of the selection that is available. Costco only takes American Express as a credit card. I'm honestly not sure how there are such good reviews on this location. I'm from Texas and we have Costco there and it doesn't even compare to this location. Based on the numerous times I've visited, this location doesn't replenish their produce nearly enough, and multiple times I've had rotten pineapples, packaged lettuce that was brown, etc. The refrigerated produce section is absolutely tiny and rarely has organic produce. People here don't smile and they seem like they truly dislike their jobs, and I don't feel at all appreciated for my business. Every time I come here I tell myself I'm going to stop. If it wasn't for the select few favorite items that I can only find here (Almond Butter, frozen organic foods, etc) I would cancel my membership. Don't even get me started on the gasoline area. There is an attendant there that scolded me for getting back into my car while pumping gas because I didn't want to breathe in the fumes. He told me it's "against the rules" to sit in your car because of the static electricity, which might be a recommendation, but should not be a "rule." So ridiculous. read more

Visited on 03/20/20 yes, I understand we are in a pandemic-however-I am a caregiver for disabled elderly who cannot get out. Went to 6 different stores for toilet paper finally got a friend who has a card to take me as a guest. Felt like I was in a communist society-this was one of the most horrific experiences ever. Take a look at the lines. Once inside-it was a shopping cart race to toilet paper! Never being in the store before (and never planning to go again!) I followed the crowd. Upon checking out-I was denied the purchase by staffers who claimed its "1 per card holding person" of course staff offered to sign me up for a card at the cost of $60-ISNT THAT PRICE GAUGING???? Staff did not care-even though I was with a physical disabled person who had to wait in the same line. Its business' like this who need to be yelped- this is illegal and there should be no rule bending or allowance because of the pandemic. I hate writing bad reviews but after coming here this morning I have to share my experience. Employees are rude as heck (if you can even find them on the sales floor). The woman checking cards at the door was barking at people to show their cards. I was shopping for InstaCart, and when I told her she replied with "well why did you just say that?" Checking out was a nightmare. Had to suspend my order at self checkout, when I reached the cashier he wouldn't listen to me, repeatedly asked me for the membership card while I was trying to find it and started rescanning already scanned items, not to mention he ignored the second order I had clearly separated. I also noticed other cashiers carelessly flinging items around inside the carts scanning them. The parking lot is a nightmare, had people beeping at me while I was organizing my items in my car because they wanted my parking space (but I guess that's the general public, not the company). Needless to say I won't be accepting anymore orders from this store or getting a membership. Stressful experience from start to finish. read more
