Do yourself a favor and find a highly rated pub with fish and chips on the menu. We only came here because my friend has Celiac Disease, and Beshoff is able to make gluten free fish and chips. Service was unbelievably terrible. A girl took our order. It took a while for our food to come out, and when it did, it was a giant mess. Food was brought out by another employee, a male. My friend was served regular, not gf, fish and chips. Luckily she noticed that it looked exactly like my husband's and inquired. The man apologized and told her that the girl who took our order was new and the gf order was never entered. As they were taking her food away, I mentioned that I had ordered regular fish and chips - that it was mine. The man told me that he had to bring it to another table that had ordered it. I don't understand the logic of it originally being my friend's dish but it now being for another table. I think maybe my meal was never put in and hers was put in incorrectly, but I still don't understand why they couldn't give it to me, as it was my order. So my husband and my friend's boyfriend had their meals, and my friend and I had to wait for them to cook our meals from scratch. We were hungry so we picked at the boys' chips. Not once, not twice, but three separate times we politely asked for ketchup before getting it. My friend and I finally got our food. They told us we would get a discount for the the mistakes. The food was not great. The batter on the fish wasn't crispy enough and it also wasn't well adhered to the fillet. The cod itself was mushy, overcooked, and a little fishy tasting. I'm not entirely sure it was even cod; it didn't seem flakey enough for it to be cod. The chips weren't seasoned at all, but maybe they do that on purpose so you can salt them to your liking. These were some of the worst chips I've had in Dublin. They were very soft and, like the fish, not crispy. It became impossible to get a hold of someone for the bill. Frustrated, we eventually walked up to the counter to pay. The promised discount was not applied, but we didn't say anything because we just wanted to leave. The smoked haddock had a very strong flavor which I enjoyed, but I think might take folks who don't like smoked fish by surprise. It was perfectly cooked, still tender, but the breading was light and crispy, some of the best fried fish I've had. The chips were nothing special really, and the portion was kind of crazy. I could never have eaten all the chips along with the generous portion of fish, but to each their own. They also had a limited beer selection as well as other seafood and grilled items, as well as sandwiches. Something for everyone here, I reckon and some truly solid fish and chips. read more

We had just arrived at our AirBNB by the Olympia Theatre in Temple Bar, Dublin, and were starved and craving fish and chips. Knowing about the Beshoff Bros' location on Dame Street -- a block-long walk from our Airbnb by the Olympia Theatre, we moseyed over and began our first meal in Dublin -- and Ireland overall. My girlfriend, who we were celebrating her birthday on this trip, was excited about coming to Beshoff Bros for fish and chips because of their gluten-free options -- she's celiac. She was able to order gluten-free fish and chips (the North Atlantic Fresh Cod), calamari, and onion rings, which I will say were absolutely fabulous as someone who doesn't have an allergy. If you never had gluten-free before, you wouldn't know that it was. I was very impressed and enjoyed the gluten-free bites my girlfriend gave me of the cod, calamari, and onion rings. I ordered the fish cakes and... (wait for it) ... fish and chips (regular). They were magical. Very magical. The cod was fresh and delicious while the batter was tantalizing excellent and crispy. The fish cakes were solid as I savored them as I noshed on my fri-- I mean chips, which were crisp and tasty as well. Additionally, I enjoyed their clean and nicely arranged interior, situated on one of the Dame Street corners, with a nice view of incoming and ongoing pedestrians walking the sidewalks as cars whizzed along. I loved the fish and chips here. It was good other places, but it was perfect here. The batter is light and super crispy- very thin. The fish is wonderful. Big fillet. There are a TON of fries and you get mushy peas- I couldn't eat all the fries and peas. It's a very good size meal and the price was reasonable, especially when you consider the location- it's just a few blocks up from Temple Bar- take the alley the Snug is on (BadBobs- or something like that). It's right on the corner of that alley and Dame street. It's very near the castle- so you could eat there before or after your visit. Wine and beer were expensive- when compared to the meal. Most ordered fish and chips, but one friend and I ordered chicken strips with sweet potato fries. I think everything was baked instead of fried because the food wasn't greasy. Loved this place! My family and I were visiting from the US and can't ever find gluten free fish and chips for my mom and I. Saw this place here on yelp and decided to give it a chance. So glad we did! The gluten free fish and chips were so amazing! My mom got the Haddock and I got the regular cod: the Haddock was very Smokey and a lovely flavor while the cod was very fresh. The food came, no water. I asked a second time. The mushy peas were lukewarm. The fish was hot, fresh, and delicious, but the chips were not. My wife and I just got to Dublin for our honeymoon and this was our first meal. We found this place on yelp and we decided to walk over. We ordered the calamari to share and it was really good. The calamari was really soft and you could tell that it was fresh. My wife got the fried cod and I got the smoked haddock fried. When it came out we were surprised to see how big it was. The fish was so fresh and it was really good. It melted in your mouth. It was a very generous portion. The "chips" were really good as well. I was in a hurry and ordered a fish burger which, when it arrived, was precariously balanced on an oblong, wooden plate. The cod was on the damp side of underdone as a result of which the burger bun was sodden and falling apart. The fries were pretty good though and the coffee was ok. I would never ever thank this place enough to gave me a chance to try a real fish and chips in Dublin. As I'm coeliac I was convinced that it was out of idea to give it a try, but I saw their ad in the streets and got there. We walked over from the Westin when we were starving, and the walk helped build our appetite! 1) Parking seemed to be difficult as there was no lot, so I'd recommend walking over if you can/are nearby. 2) It wasn't too crowded when we got there, but the service seemed to be a little slow in taking our order and serving. 3) We ordered the traditional fish and chips and it was amazing! Obviously heavy because it's fried, but when you're in the mood to indulge yourself, this is definitely worth the calories! 4) Food took a little while to get out, but it was worth the wait! We downed it in minutes. The entree is medium sized so we were "content" after finishing the meal, but probably could have eaten a little bit more. 5) Service was kind, but they were swamped and the shift change made the service inconsistent--seems like they had little communication with each other. Well! First off, we were welcomed into the shiny cleanliness of Beshoff's Dame Street with a big smile from a gentleman of possibly Pakistani or Indian origin. Who says that an Irish welcome can only come from native Irish people? Well, he was wrong-diddly-ong. I ordered the calamari and chips with a side of garlic sauce included, plus a Pepsi (no Coca Cola available) for €9.55, and it was delivered quickly and with a smile by another member of staff. There are some lovely photos of the history of the business on the walls, including a really cool newspaper article about Ivan Beshoff, the Russian immigrant who founded the business. Quite the handsome devil in his youth, Ivan was apparently one of the rebels on the Potemkin in 1905 pre-revolutionary Russia -how cool that? A wonderful little nugget of Dublin's history that a sailor on the Potemkin settled here and founded one of the most recognisable family brands in the city. Gluten free fish and chips initially caught my attention about a year ago and then I promptly forgot about it until recently. I went in filled with anticipation, could this really be good fried food AND gluten free? Firstly the interior design of this place is simple, modern and very very clean, they had some articles on the walls about how the chain first got started and I found it very interesting. Staff was so nice and friendly that I almost had my meal in the restaurant instead of to go. I had gone in wanting fish and chips but was then altered that most of the menu could be made gluten free so I got the scampi which was devine. They are open early for breakfast when we were in town. I got the pan fried haddock breakfast rather than the traditional Irish and it was excellent. Service was great as well.
