    Fried calamari appetizer
    Em K.

I've said time and time again that the best places to get fish and chips are not these chiperies, but rather, traditional Irish pubs. Do yourself a favor and find a highly rated pub with fish and chips on the menu. We only came here because my friend has Celiac Disease, and Beshoff is able to make gluten free fish and chips. Service was unbelievably terrible. A girl took our order. It took a while for our food to come out, and when it did, it was a giant mess. Food was brought out by another employee, a male. My friend was served regular, not gf, fish and chips. Luckily she noticed that it looked exactly like my husband's and inquired. The man apologized and told her that the girl who took our order was new and the gf order was never entered. As they were taking her food away, I mentioned that I had ordered regular fish and chips - that it was mine. The man told me that he had to bring it to another table that had ordered it. I don't understand the logic of it originally being my friend's dish but it now being for another table. I think maybe my meal was never put in and hers was put in incorrectly, but I still don't understand why they couldn't give it to me, as it was my order. So my husband and my friend's boyfriend had their meals, and my friend and I had to wait for them to cook our meals from scratch. We were hungry so we picked at the boys' chips. Not once, not twice, but three separate times we politely asked for ketchup before getting it. My friend and I finally got our food. They told us we would get a discount for the the mistakes. The food was not great. The batter on the fish wasn't crispy enough and it also wasn't well adhered to the fillet. The cod itself was mushy, overcooked, and a little fishy tasting. I'm not entirely sure it was even cod; it didn't seem flakey enough for it to be cod. The chips weren't seasoned at all, but maybe they do that on purpose so you can salt them to your liking. These were some of the worst chips I've had in Dublin. They were very soft and, like the fish, not crispy. It became impossible to get a hold of someone for the bill. Frustrated, we eventually walked up to the counter to pay. The promised discount was not applied, but we didn't say anything because we just wanted to leave. It's worth mentioning that they were not understaffed. The restaurant was not busy, and there were plenty of servers and cooks.

    Smoked haddock and chips!

The smoked haddock had a very strong flavor which I enjoyed, but I think might take folks who don't like smoked fish by surprise. It was perfectly cooked, still tender, but the breading was light and crispy, some of the best fried fish I've had. The chips were nothing special really, and the portion was kind of crazy. I could never have eaten all the chips along with the generous portion of fish, but to each their own. They also had a limited beer selection as well as other seafood and grilled items, as well as sandwiches. Something for everyone here, I reckon and some truly solid fish and chips.

I had fish n chips every day I was in Dublin, Ireland and this has got to be one of my favorite places. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to eat the fish there as I got there too close to closing time but the fish was still delicious when I reached my hotel. Fresh, flaky, and flavorful batter. The staff who took my order and handed me my food were all friendly. It was fried fresh as I waited about 10 minutes to receive my order. Too bad I tried this place near the end of my stay in Dublin or else I would have only eaten here!

I loved the fish and chips here. It was good other places, but it was perfect here. The batter is light and super crispy- very thin. The fish is wonderful. Big fillet. There are a TON of fries and you get mushy peas- I couldn't eat all the fries and peas. It's a very good size meal and the price was reasonable, especially when you consider the location- it's just a few blocks up from Temple Bar- take the alley the Snug is on (BadBobs- or something like that). It's right on the corner of that alley and Dame street. It's very near the castle- so you could eat there before or after your visit. Wine and beer were expensive- when compared to the meal. So we just had tap water. Also, our tour with DoDublin gave us 10% off our meal there (we did the Howth tour, and then a walking tour the next day- and the ticket for that walking tour and 10% off at Beshoffs and 20% off at the Church bar- for food)

Wow! I was so excited they were open even though it said they were closed on Yelp. I was craving fish and chips while in Ireland and it was so hard to find a place that has gluten free fish and chips. If you have a gluten intolerance than this is definitely worth checking out. My husband got the chicken and I got the seafood sampler. Everything was delicious, with a wonderful flaky crust and tender moist meat in the middle. The chips were also wonderful, with a crunchy exterior and a pillowy inside.

Delicious fish and chip! They served it with a lime instead of lemon which was a little odd but everything was fresh and delicious! Service could have been better as there was only 1 server on a Friday night but food was really good and worth the trip.

I don't know if its the air in Ireland or my ancestry coming out, but had a few too many the night before and figured a good plate of Fish & Chips would cure me. Walked over to Leo Burdock's and saw they didn't have seating (it was a bit nippy outside), so I headed over to Beshoff, since it had seating and looked warm inside. Set-up is like a typical fast food joint. Order at the counter and they bring out your food. Ordered the Seafood Chowder and Fish & Chips. Seafood Chowder? Delicious. Perfect for warming up and Filling. Very tasty and they don't skimp on the seafood. Fish & Chips? Excellent. The Chips were prepared crispy and the fish was fried to perfection. Couldn't eat it all, but it definitely cured me.

Gluten free Fish and Chips! So good!

Loved this place! My family and I were visiting from the US and can't ever find gluten free fish and chips for my mom and I. Saw this place here on yelp and decided to give it a chance. So glad we did! The gluten free fish and chips were so amazing! My mom got the Haddock and I got the regular cod: the Haddock was very Smokey and a lovely flavor while the cod was very fresh. Both were amazing so I recommend trying both! My dad got the regular fish and chips and he really enjoyed them as well! The staff were super nice and accommodating as well! Will definitely come back here on our next trip to Dublin!

My wife and I just got to Dublin for our honeymoon and this was our first meal. We found this place on yelp and we decided to walk over. We ordered the calamari to share and it was really good. The calamari was really soft and you could tell that it was fresh. My wife got the fried cod and I got the smoked haddock fried. When it came out we were surprised to see how big it was. The fish was so fresh and it was really good. It melted in your mouth. It was a very generous portion. The "chips" were really good as well. Honestly, it was the best fish and chips that we have ever had. This place is a MUST if you are in Dublin.

    so crispy.

I think this is a great "fast food" place to get delicious Fish & Chips. They got more than just cod. They got calamari, haddock, and scampi too. All are fried so nicely! Try them all if you can, because I tried them all and I became a happy pig.

    North Atlantic fresh cod

I ordered North Atlantic fresh cod that not as good as I expected. The Fish and Chips of Buttery at TCD even better!

I would never ever thank this place enough to gave me a chance to try a real fish and chips in Dublin. As I'm coeliac I was convinced that it was out of idea to give it a try, but I saw their ad in the streets and got there. So I took the regular fish n chips, we had to wait a little bit since it's a special meal, but when I finally tried it it was delicious ! The fries were very good as well... I would definitely go back there as soon as I can ! I saw they're doing fried prawns gluten free as well, can't wait to try it

We asked about the soup flavor & they offered a taste and brought out a huge sample boat. Super cool. I got the cottage pie lunch portion, which is more than I could barely eat. It came with a boat of the sauce /and gravy and meat. Wife got the fish and chips... The fillet was longer than the plate and it came with a mountain of fries, both delicious. Daughter got the creamy vegetable soup and chips. She loved it but couldn't even finish half. All the portions were very generous, nobody finished their meal, too bad we couldn't have taken it back to our hotel. Server was great & funny. Love this place.

Thankfully, when I arrived around 1, one table happened to be opened so no wait for me. A long queue did start soon after though so just be prepared for some wait depending on when you arrive. I ordered the Seafood Chowder and the Guinness Stew. Both were very tasty! The Seafood Chowder had a good amount of seafood and the flavor was hearty but not overly heavy. Same applies to the Guinness Stew. Very hearty with lots of beef chunks but I didn't feel too heavy after eating it. The stew is definitely much different in terms of flavor and the richness (the stew was a lot more rich) but having the contrast of both dishes was ideal. To top it off, dipping the provided soda bread in each of the dishes was an added bonus. The service is very prompt and the staff are friendly. There's a decent amount of tables so turnover shouldn't be too long for those waiting in the queue. Will definitely be back on my next visit to Dublin to try the other dishes!

Menu has a good selection of Irish dishes from seafood chowder up to lamb stew and pies. We ordered the potato soup, seafood chowder, 'banjo' burger with onion rings. The soups arrived first and the seafood chowder was loaded with huge pieces of fish, potatoes (not many) with a creamy rich base. Flavor was incredible and in itself a full meal. Served in a large crock style bowl. The potato soup was minus any whole potatoes. It was a rich creamy base with plenty of flavor and very hearty. The burger was really a double cheeseburger with plenty of cheese, grilled onions, what appeared to be a mayonnaise based sauce on a soft hamburger roll. Really tall enough that it was tough getting your mouth around it. Very well seasoned burgers and the onions were a nice touch. The onion rings were huge and had a very light batter on them. They served in a metal bowl to keep them hot. For dessert the apple crumble was ordered which was served in a large dish with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. This could have been warmer but still was good.. The 5 star rating is for the chowder as it outshone the rest of the meal although the burger was definitely a close second. Definitely will return to try other dishes when we come back to the city.

The meat and veggies were plentiful, the portion generous, and it was tasty enough but maybe on the bland side? It was served with a side of braised red cabbage which we really liked: sweet but not sour like pickled cabbage. And house-made brown stout bread, also very good. The wife had a Guinness and I, thinking it too cliché to order Guinness as a tourist in Ireland, tried a different stout whose name I've forgotten from the ample selection. But comparing the two, so much better! The menu offers a wide variety of traditional Irish dishes, more than most of the similar pubs in the area. As well as the other expected pub type food: sandwiches, burgers, etc. As for desserts, if we were hungrier, the wife might have ordered the Irish Whiskey Bread & Butter Pudding. The hubby would probably get his dessert later, as the selection was limited and neither that nor the Apple Crumble appealed. Sitting at the bar we had a more personalized experience than were we at a table. The bartender offered to take a photo of me behind the bar which I of course accepted. We made the right choice in coming here.

Fantastic- exactly what one hopes for when they step into an Irish pub!…read more We enjoyed it here so much we ate here two times during our stay in Dublin. Sandra our waitress was so friendly and attentive. When we came back the 2nd time she remembered us and the drinks we had ordered previously! A Guinness and Smithwicks Red Ale. Honestly she made us feel so welcome and comfortable, like we were in our local home pub. (THANK YOU SANDRA). The first visit I had the cottage pie and the 2nd visit the fish & chips. All the food was spot on, the cottage pie was like a warm hug - the meat is all grinned so it goes down smooth. The fish & chips was BEST ever - crispy, large and perfectly fried. For an elevated taste, I recommend using the vinegar. My travel partner had the Irish Stew first visit and Guinness stew second. I tasted both and they were delicious. We also tried a Harp beer - it's lighter like a Stella - so fresh, in my pics you can see the incredible head that formed on top. Dessert we ordered on the 2nd night - Banoffi pie - something different and good to try. (I posted pics of all the food and drinks mentioned) The music on both nights was a solo guitar player - on Sunday night the guy was so good, he seriously should be on The Voice or one of the Got Talent shows - he sung all types of songs and accepted requests. The guitarist the 2nd night was good too. They have adequate seating, with additional seating upstairs. If you're in Dublin and looking for that quintessential Irish pub experience, pass all the other pubs and go directly here - Lovely atmosphere, so cozy, warm and welcoming- even with a whole city to try out, we chose here twice!!
