My favorite froyo place in Boston! I came here all the time when I went to college in Cambridge, and now that I've moved away, I really miss this place. I love how tart the original flavor is, and the seasonal flavors are always awesome as well. If you like the more sweet/ice cream-like types of froyo, this probably isn't for you. Unlike Pinkberry, there's different price tiers for 1 topping vs multiple toppings. The inside is pretty tiny and there can be long lines on summer nights. Just fyi - I tried to come back today while back in town for a few days, but sadly it is closed for the holiday season (see pic). Alas I'll have to come back another time! read more

Great as everyone says. If you are coming for the homemade mochi, like I did, then consider coming not near closing hours. I came 1 hour till closing time and it wasn't as fresh. After all, they must have made it in the morning. I wish they had fresh strawberries. This location didn't have any at the time. Plus, their mangoes were a bit green. I came to BerryLine expecting the cliche self serve froyo experience. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised by the over the counter service and the plethora of froyo and ice cream flavors. I tried the watermelon and original medium froyo with mochi and strawberry toppings. The froyo itself was quite delectable, creamy, and addicting. Just the right texture you would expect from your favorite froyo place. Personally, the mochi was a bit on the dense and cakey side, but the fresh fruit enhanced the sweet and tart yogurt. So get on the red line, get up to Harvard Sq and get some amazing frozen yoghurt from this cool venture by yelper Matt W and friends. They've turned a dirty old shop into a great space with funky artwork, lots of light and a sweet mural on the side. They serve smoothies, coffee and mighty leaf tea (love that tea!) to go alongside your frozen yoghurt. And let's talk about the frozen-yoghurt... there's plain and flavoured with the latter changing each week (I had blueberry). The sizes are generous and cheap considering. Oh fill me with your sweet peanut buttery goodness. Yes, Peanut Butter FroYo... and its flavor was unexpected. Traces of peanut butter, yet still sweet as frozen yogurt should be. It was almost PB & Jish. The service was good, and the ambience was excellent. Nifty pictures adorn the walls, including a giant poster bearing FroYo Nutritional information. Almost transparent blue counters, super clean coffee station, and white walls reassure you that this establishment takes pride in keeping clean. The only downfall is the FroYo flavor selection. Three flavors to choose from: Orignal, PB, and Tamarind (which I'm pretty sure is monkey-flavored). But, despite the lack of choices, you are able to jazz up that cup with a gadzillion different toppings. Banana Frozen Yogart? Pilled with mounds of fresh strawberries, mango and kiwii? Oy! Writing this review makes me wish I had another Berry Line sitting next to me! Generally I don't like to compare places to big chains, but I think the Pinkberry reference just has to be made here. So why do I think Berry Line is better? 1. Its local, Matt the owner is uber nice and a fellow Yelper 2. The flavors change!! At all times they have original plus two rotating flavors!! I stopped in for Banana and Blueberry and KNOW I have to go back within the week before Banana is gone! But then every time I visit its a new flavor adventure :) 3. FRESH FRUIT, like really fresh and sweet! Visiting LA all the time I have had my share of this stuff, and this is the freshest fruit I have come across! Plus, that cute mural on the outside wall gets me every time! The fun little Pineapple and Kiwi hanging out together as all the chocolate chips dance around them, I LOVE it! Why is it that whenever I have cravings, I always tend to go the opposite direction? What do I mean? Well, let's follow Waldo! I started from Brookline (home base), then Porter Sq for lunch, then Union Sq to check out its festival, then to Inman Sq for some Christina's Ice cream...but before continuing, I thought about ice cream places that I haven't check out yet and BerryLine came up (yes, I know it's yogurt)! So it's off to Central Sq to catch the red line for the BerryLine at Harvard Sq! I almost missed this place too because of its tucked away locale off between Mass Ave and Arrow St (you're walking south from Hahvarhd Sq). The cartoonish exterior and interior makes it welcoming and makes you expect Spongebob to greet you inside (no, I wasn't traumatized as a child). There are nice small tables and chairs for you to sit in inside, as well free WiFi to get some reading done or write more Yelp reviews. Their choices are either original or flavor of the week (cranberry was this week, but others had mango, pomegranate, black cherry, and papaya) and your choices of toppings are fruit, chocolate or pb chips, granola, etc. The small was just enough for me,but they come in medium and large as well. I got the mango and pb chips on original yogurt and it was delish! The price (around $3) is awesome compared to competitions in LA (i.e. Pinkberry, Red Mango) and it tastes just as good, if not better! And fellow Yelper/owner Matt W is an equally awesome guy, putting his MIT education to run this place here. He says that he and his partner (Eric) are really enjoying this after doing this for about a month and are thinking of baked goods in the near future to complement their coffees. Give him a Yelp holler next time you stop by! One suggestion: bring in the mochi topping! So after enduring endless miles of travel, I'm a happy camper because I have yogo in my tummy (and I get extra points for putting up with Red Sox fans on the way home, right?)! read more

The only way I will be able to remedy my indecision in the face of so many options will be to go back here eighty thousand times. I love love love this place. The staff is super friendly and understanding of my inability to choose toppings. All the fruit looked so fresh (it is - they will only offer it if it's ripe and recently sliced) and the other toppings so yummy (cocoa puffs, fruity pebbles, granola, oh my!) I just couldn't decide what direction to take my heavenly bowl of awesomeness. Ended up going with Oreo crumbles. My only complaint is that there were no sprinkles. Have you ever seen a fro-yo place that had two flavors you wanted twisted on two separate machines? Did that make you cry a little on the inside? (It's okay if you admit it, it's happened to me.) Fear not, such a fate will never befall you at BerryLine. ...not that they have a machine for every twist option, but they are more than happy to put flavors side by side for you. (!!!) Not only will they give you two flavors off two separate machines...but if you want...they'll put your toppings at the bottom of the cup instead of on top. We even joked about them offering Grapenuts as a topping, but on stipulation that they would have to be added mid-swirl so as to prevent tooth chipping. Each flavor is amazing. I personally didn't go for the side by side because I needed the pomegranate (yes! pomegranate fro-yo) in my life and didn't want to pass up the original flavor. I topped mine off with strawberries and chocolate chips. I couldn't have been happier. (although I've already conjured up about 5 more combos I need to try)It took me about 30 minutes to make up my mind. The guys that run the shop are amazing. They're smart and funny...and really, really care! (if you couldn't tell by all the above and beyond to truly maximize your fro-yo enjoying experience detailed above) They're so open to suggestions and new ideas...but I think they're doing a pretty good job as is! I am yelping from BerryLine right now because my small original with strawberries and graham crackers is so good and relatively calorie-free. It is tiny but on a winter Sunday afternoon it is practically empty except for another girl on a laptop and three girls who just walked in as I typed the last sentence. Just heard all three girls order larges--now I am jealous because I just finished mine. Tomorrow I am giving a pop quiz in my Algebra 2/Trig class in which the students must calculate how much frozen yogurt "Ms. B" can order if she runs for 25 minutes averaging 14 calories/minute on the treadmill. While I am an ice cream addict, even I sometimes crave the refreshing tang of a good fro-yo when I'm having one of those "I should really be good" days. I first visited Berryline in the dead of winter and while it took a little effort to find the inconspicuous little shop, I was well rewarded for the hunt. I shared a medium portion of the regular fro-yo with fresh raspberries as a topping and it was really quite a generous amount at a reasonable price. While it's a little squishy inside, they did a good job adding little seating nooks. Service was super smiley and friendly. Time to get on the train to BerryLine! read more

BerryLine yogurt is as addictive as crack. And, as a former crack addict myself, I do not take this analogy lightly. In fact I refer to it as crack yogurt and routinely find myself saying things like, "I could stop after just one if I really wanted to" or "I never eat crack yogurt when I'm alone" or, after a brief no sugar stint, "See, I didn't have any for two weeks--clearly I don't have a problem." The worst part is, I've become a crack yogurt pusher. I am responsible for spreading the addiction to my roommate, my ex-boyfriend, and most recently, my workout buddy, Layla P. Berryline! I might not have found you so soon, if not for the buzz on yelp....I don't get to Harvard Square too often. So I decided to trek to Harvard square just for you!....ok and to go to Lush.......but YOU were the main reason. You see.....froyo places hold a special place in my heart. When I was younger and my mother would drop me off to go to CCD, I would run over to meet up with three of my closest friends and we would turn around and wave goodbye to our parents. We would look to our right and look to our left, than we would run like hell. Yup, we skipped every third class or so and flocked to TCBY. Sadly, our excursions stopped. Nope, our parents didn't find out. TCBY had to closedown because their employees had sticky fingers. It was a sad day for all. Since those days nothing has hit the mark until now. Yes, Berryline was seriously freakin, oh my lord unbelievable....I got the original with strawberry...You know, I just wanted to play it safe before I opened up my heart to Berryline.......just like any relationship. The original is perfect. Smooth, creamy, tastes like yogurt but not too tart like yogurt....just a nice balance.......doesn't taste artificial whatsoever. So Berryline has taken over...not just because they have delish yogurt but because they have a kick ass mural on their store front, wifi, indoor and outdoor seating, cool artwork on their walls -when I went it was art by Bren Bataclan and the pieces fit perfectly inside Berryline-, the staff was super super nice and looked HAPPY to be there.... I plan to get a bit more creative the next time with my toppings, but I think I need all I need to know to give this place five stars. If you haven't been and you love froyo....GO! Yup, it's true. This stuff is amazing. I was craving junk junk junk so I got my yogurt with white choc chips and choc chips. Eh, next time I am getting fruit. The yogurt is just so yummy and fresh and healthy tasting, I felt like I was bastardizing it with chocolate. This is the kind of food you will crave. Wait, frozen yogurt that tastes like... yogurt?... that's frozen? Absurd! Yogurty frozen yogurt people. Delicious. Not to mention, it's fat free, and 25 calories per serving. What?! That frees up a whole ton of calories for you to pile on as toppings! The original flavor is always good, or try one of the two rotating flavors-- peanut butter! Banana! Coconut! Etc! Then throw on any of the toppings of your choice-- fresh fruit (blueberries, mango, strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, coconut, so much more), nuts (chopped pecans, walnuts, you name it), or some decadence (oreos, white chocolate chips, aghhhhhhh!!!). Being awesome, and Indian, I grew up with homemade yogurt with every meal. Vegetable dish, lentil dish, fresh chapatis, rice and dhai. Glorious dhai that I missed so very much when I was away from home. My mom would make a fresh pot every week, using culture from the week before. This chain of dhai has not been broken since 1978. I am not kidding. So of course, when I got my own place, I got my own yogurt maker and have that tart, sweet, creamy, milky goodness in the mornings. Some granola, fruit and I am so so happy. Nothing I have ever had even comes close to this. Mass produced, store sold yogurt, sugary frozen yogurt, nothing (I agree with Kabir's take on Indian train food/yogurt, though. My sister and I would crave Shatabdhi tomato soup the minute we touched down in Delhi). Nothing has come close, until now. BerryLine uses Greek yogurt, which has the same tart, smooth taste that I love. It is not ruined by massive amounts of sugar or artificial flavor. I got the peach with strawberries and granola. Being so far away from Pinkberry makes me a little sad, but now there's the bigger and better Berry Line a mere hour away in nearby Boston. Though I wouldn't trek it just for fro-yo...... would I? Next to parking tickets from the City of Cambridge, there is nothing else that appears with more regularity on my credit card statement than Berryline. To think of it, those parking tickets often came as a direct result of parallel parking in front of food establishments. Not that I've gotten a ticket in front of Berryline....yet (knock on wood). Just going to add to the choir. I work across the street from Berryline at ART. All the ushers are thinking of starting a support group? Why? delicious froyo that actually tastes like yogurt and some like some fakey fake processed crud. How novel! A food that actually tastes as nature intended it to....but awesome(er). The staff is incredibly nice and upbeat and there are only 25 CALORIES per ounce, so a small is 125 calories. What kind of snack food is that low calorically! That is equivalent to 1.5 Fig Newtons. Plus they have hot chocolate and apple cider with real cinnamon sticks in it AND they take debit cards ( no $5 minimum thing, too). I It's almost as if someone got into my subconscious and created the perfect eatery for me. A secret recipe? If you've ever made anything in a kitchen you know that the recipe is equally important if not more than the ingredients themselves. With this in mind, there are only two reasons to have a secret recipe: 1. You want the marketing benefits of having a 'secret recipe' 2. You don't want your customers to know precisely what's in your product Berryline doesn't make a point of telling you that its recipe is secret, so it must be that they don't want us to know what is in their frozen "yogurt". Following the unfolding of Pinkberry (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/12/us/12pink.html), I find myself particularly suspicious of an identical business making similar health claims with a similarly secret recipe. But more on that later. The shop is clean with plenty of natural light. The interior often fills up and feels a bit crowded with people coming to get their fix. The service itself was awesome. Halfway through asking what the original flavor tasted like I had a sample in my hand. Nothing but smiles here from start to finish and they are eager to give you suggestions of their favorite combinations. The product alone is really quite good, the familiar tanginess of yogurt without being too sweet. It is a welcome change from the existing frozen confections in this city. In America's mecca of ice cream, Berryline is a welcome addition. But is it really made from yogurt? Who knows. Does it offer any or even a fraction of the health benefits of real yogurt? Who knows. It's certainly tasty and offers itself as a very enjoyable and healthy alternative to ice cream. But take note that the extra large printed nutritional information measures a SINGLE ounce of the mystery delight; and in small lettering tells you to multiply by 5, 16, or 32 depending on the size you ordered. Hey, it's still better for you than ice cream but I couldn't help but feel it was slightly misleading. In closing, in a world where the number of people with serious allergies is ever-increasing not being able to name precisely what is in your product is stupid and downright insulting to your customers. It really, really bugs me actually. To make matters worse, ONLY the owner (who isn't in the store all the time) can say for sure what is or isn't in it. So people with food allergies better call ahead on this place, but it IS worth the extra effort. read more

I have been putting this off for way too long. I do this all of the time. I know I want to go somewhere, try something, do something- but I don't do it for 9-12 months. It's like I get the inkling and carry it to term- and then eventually, finally go. Good. stuff. nice staff. I always said Harvard square needed smoothie's and frozen treats (4 years ago). I like that it tastes like actual yogurt and I loved it with granola and strawberries. Oreo or toffee isn't so shabby either (separately of course). The staff was helpful and it's cute as the dickens. What does that mean? I don't know. I don't care that it's 25 calories an ounce or whatever. You shouldn't eat dessert if calories are something you care about. Walk there. Eat it. Walk home. Yay! read more
