We were told the chicken fried steak was delicious...it was over cooked, tasteless and the breading was a breading I've never had on chicken fried steak and it's one of my favorite breakfast dishes, so I order it wherever I go. Almost reminds me of fish batter. Their gravy was definitely not homemade. It's tasteless, seasonless with very little to no sausage in it(I make better gravy for sure). The hash browns weren't Cooked all the way and the eggs are definitely from a carton. The most upsetting part was I found a hair in my food after only a few bites. The waiter was very understanding and did not charge us for it. I read a review that a couple here felt like they were maybe racist and weren't served accordingly. Had breakfast here with my wife last Sunday, was not impressed, especially for the money charged. She ordered French toast, bacon and a side of blackberries. Bacon obviously prepared in advance, tasted strongly of old fryer grease, blackberries were served literally still frozen, pretty disappointing considering the name of the restaurant is "Berry Fields." I ordered a waffle, links and a sunny side up egg, waffle arrived cold, egg completely hammered. Coffee was mediocre. On the plus side, service was efficient and reasonably friendly, and waitress offered to remove the berries and egg from our bill. Arrived at 11am, it was just past 11:30 when we finally sat down, we took advantage of their offer to text us when our table was ready to check out the antique mall in the basement. The restaurant was very noisy, hard to have a conversation with someone sitting right next to you, also the restrooms are ancient, cramped, poorly vented and very stinky. Overall the quality of the meal we were served was on a par with Denny's, but more expensive, might as well have gone to Denny's! read more

We were told about this place by several people and finally decided to try them out.... What a great choice! The food, ambiance and pricing were amazing!! We went for the breakfast and everything was yummy with great portions, the Chicken fried steak was HUGE!! my husband almost didn't finish it lol and he is a big eater!! The kids ordered sandwiches from the adult menu, which was a bit pricey for kids but they ended up taking 1/2 of their meal home for lunch, so I guess it was priced ok lol. I have had their pies before but this time the crumble crust on top was an inch thick and we couldn't cut through it with a fork.. Very disappointing.. the burger was so so. Not impressed. When we left I went up to pay and bought 2 slices of pie to go and a loaf of bread. the bread was 10.99 and a day old. I didn't notice till I got home. The waitress who rang me up forgot to add in our burger and we were stopped at the door asking if we intended to pay. I felt awful I thought when I paid it was for everything. Nothing super boring, and everything works The lunch was so good we decided we must try dessert and ordered a cinnamon roll. It is as big as a plate, and it's a good thing we were sharing everything. To say the food is amazing is an understatement. I live almost 3 hours away from here and I will be back. Yum. The only bit of advice I offer to management is it would be nice to have a bit of history about this beautiful historical building on the menu, website, or a flyer at the table. It's breathtakingly gorgeous. It must have been an old hotel or something I imagine, but no mention anywhere. Otherwise, the food and staff is spot on. We stopped in for a quick breakfast based on Berry Fields' 5-star Yelp reviews, and although it was OK, I wasn't blown away. The food was solid country-diner fare, but the service was just... strange. On a Sunday at 11:00 am, we walked in and sat right down with our choice of tables. I wanted something smallish, so I asked for a piece of the apple pie that was on the daily special board. Our server looked doubtful, said she would check whether they had any, and came back to say they did not. So wait, they sold out of their daily special by 11:00 am but didn't take it off the board? Odd. Then, when I asked for cream for my coffee, she gave me a confused look, told me they didn't have any, and brought me a shot glass of milk. What kind of cafe doesn't have either the single-serving half-and-half tubs, or the little mini-creamer pitchers for pouring? Instead, I ordered a cinnamon roll ($4), which turned out to be a HUGE, gooey, cream-cheese-frosted monster that easily dwarfs a Cinnabon. It's definitely made for sharing, and I didn't come close to finishing it - which is probably for the best, calorically speaking. Order one for the table and there will be plenty, I promise! My boyfriend was pleased with his sausage-and-eggs breakfast ($10), and the OJ seemed fresh-squeezed, which was nice. I think I would've been more excited about this place if they hadn't been out of everything I asked for. Our server was friendly and nice, just not really on top of things. Three of us had an entree with gravy. For my daughter and I it was a half order of country fried steak and wished the gravy had more sausage and more pepper. French toast which was a thumbs up. And a side of bacon which was done to perfection. Ended up with only room to share a single piece of sour cream lemon pie which was delicious. Got the cobbler to go along with a cookie. I definitely should have ordered something with gravy, then I could've better gauged this place. But I will say that Country Cousin has better hash browns and eggs, hands down! I ordered 2 pancakes 2 eggs and 2 strips of bacon ... And as always had to get a side of hash browns. I imagined the pancakes being about half the size. Had I known how huge they were I would've only ordered the 1x breakfast (1 pancake,1 egg...) They're pancakes are PLATE size. I will say this, Berry Fields gives you a lot of bang for your buck, the 2x breakfast was only $6.99. The hash browns tasted average. One of my bacon strips was perfect, the other was waaaay to crispy for my liking. I ordered scrambled eggs (which is odd for me) but they were very blah. I make better eggs at home. My mom said their lunch is great. So perhaps my next time I'm in town I'll give them another shot for lunch. Or I'll order biscuits and gravy! Until then, 3 stars is where I stand. read more

A good breakfast/lunch restaurant with huge American portions of food. If you get a sandwich, it is unlikely you will finish it and will probably have to take half to go. The place has a cozy warm feel to it and is always packed with people. The service is just ok, nothing special. Servers take a long time to take your order or refill your drink and the person at the register seems like she would rather be doing something else. There is also some local jams and things being sold at the counter. Didn't try and of that stuff but I imagine fellow foodies would like it. Overall, one of the better places to get a sandwich in Centralia but in the future I will probably just get it to go to not overtax the help more than they already seem to be. read more

This place has something for everyone and you will NOT go home hungry. Some of my faves: Want to keep it light? Just get a bowl of soup and their bread with honey butter. Their soups are homemade. Salads -- order a half chef (it also comes with bread) the salads are huge. Sandwiches - too many to chose from to pick a favorite.
