I really really love Bernie Dexter's storefront shop in Gresham. It is very close to perfect. I purchased two ("Lauren" and "Jodi" dresses) casual day dresses there last weekend to wear while vacationing later this month. I wore one of the dresses to work immediately, and I received so many compliments. My office has about 150 employees and one woman came up to tell me that I was the best dressed person in our office. The shop staff was helpful and very adept at telling the Bernie Dexter story: she's a nationally- recognized pin-up model that lives locally and designs these dresses herself. I love that these have a wide range of sizes ranging from very small to plus size: a dress for almost every body. The dresses are well made and many have pockets. Yes, POCKETS! The dresses are not inexpensive. Be prepared to pay at least $130 for almost any garment, but know that these are all MADE IN THE USA and you are supporting a local female-owned small business owner. The fabrics are fun and cute. In my opinion (as my taste generally lends towards the more timeless and classic designs of Dior), many, but not all, of the fabrics lend themselves best to daywear or a kitschy cute pin-up style. I still adore everything and let's face it, in the casual culture we live in, you too will be the best dressed anywhere you go, in a Bernie Dexter dress. About Fit: most of the dress designs worked well for my lush figure. A lot of the current shop inventory had her "Paris" Dress, which due to the line of the bust, will not properly fit a large-busted woman. Though I am also excited she has a large size range as I'm currently a lush sized gal, as a seamstress, I prefer to see the proportions fit the same as the smaller sizes and noted that they didn't. For example, an XS dress with a 24" waist has a 2-yard circumference gathered skirt; the gathers at the waist are beautiful and perfect. The same dress in a 4X with a 41" waist also has 2-yard circumference gathered skirt; they didn't increase the skirt yardage so the gathers are not as nice and full and the silhouette of the XS. The 4X is therefore just a bit lacking in comparison. Just an observation and I'm assuming it was a cost-saving design measure, but I'd rather pay a surplus yardage fee than have a skimpy gathering ratio. All of this said, the average consumer will not even notice and will love Bernie Dexter dresses! read more

So I have bought my wife two dresses from this store. Each time they have treated my wife special and made her feel like the most important person in the store. My wife doesn't like shopping but loves going here. On top of that we were out yesterday, she was wearing a floral print Bernie D dress and she had to be complemented 15-20 times at how good she looked which makes her feel great. Husbands and boyfriends take your special lady here and get her something. She will feel great, look radiant (other compliment she's received) and you will feel good having your own beauty on your arm. As a husband and father I feel obligated to tell other men to step up and bring your ladies here. The shop is cute, the staff is beyond fantastic and your ladies will leave the store feeling special, looking beautiful. I really love this shop. Every dress is very well crafted and look great on many different body types. Sizes are XS-4X. I got a dress on sale for $78 but the price range was $58-$136. Trust me, worth the price. I will definitely be back again. read more

I've been going to this store for a long time and have managed to never write a review. The Bernie Dexter shop is by far the best clothing store that I have have stepped foot in. The dress patterns are original by Bernie -not some cheap pattern found in a craft store- and she designs and prints her own fabric. I love that the dresses are hand made all in the U.S.- which would be why they are rather expensive. It's expensive to create patterns, fabric AND employ people to sew each dress. But that is how all of her designer dresses are unique. I'm sure patterns that are similar exist, but they were not put together with the time and care that Bernie takes. And if the dresses are too expensive, the amazing staff can help set you up with lay-away. The staff are always cheerful and ready to help you find your perfect dress. They are also very honest, and if they don't think a cut is right for your body type they'll help you find the right one. Even if you just want to come in to play dress up, they'll be ready for you. I myself now own 10 dresses, a swim suit, a skirt, shirt and pair of shoes (which sadly they are no longer selling). I wear them to work every day with some tights and a sweater and they couldn't be more perfect. They'll be perfect for when summer rolls around too. I'll always be anxiously waiting to see what Bernie comes up with next. One of my favorite things about her dresses is how comfortable and confident you will feel wearing them. It's impossible to frown in a Bernie dress. People will stop me on the street and tell me they love what I'm wearing or they'll ask me where I get my clothes. I'll always point them to Bernie Dexter because it really is the best place to shop. read more

I was walking with my husband exploring downtown Gresham when I saw the store front of Bernie Dexter, I couldn't believe it because I've always seen these stores online and did not know there was one here! When I walked in I was a bit nervous, but the staff was so nice and friendly, the dresses were gorgeous, and the atmosphere of the store was fun! Sadly I didn't leave with the dress I fell in love with because I didn't come prepared (money wise) but for my birthday this is the spot I'm hitting up as a gift for me! read more

First of all I have to stay I have probably never felt more comfortable and welcomed into any business in my life. The employees are just the sweetest! Second I can not stress enough how hard it has been for me to find confidence to wear pretty much anything other than jeans in the last almost 10 years. So as I made my first journey into this beautiful little shop, I was extremely nervous and shy. I was greeted in such a timely manner, which instantly calmed my nerves (the manager I believe is just amazing) She instantly started grabbing pretty dresses for me to try on that she thought would be fitting for me. ( like a personal shopper, it was pretty exciting) *still nervous I hadn't worn a dress in years. I was reassured that Bernie Dexter dresses and other clothing is meant for all women (another awesome part is the span of sizing xs-i believe to 4x! So literally something for everyone. As I zipped up the first dress I instantly felt like a princess TRULY! It just perfectly wrapped around my body showing my newly appreciated woman curves and I was instantly in love. I also have to mention while dresses were being picked out the owner Bernie herself had come in to the shop. Now with these two gorgeous ladies waiting to see the reveal I stepped out of the dressing room to pure excitement and joy from them. I felt like Marilyn on the red carpet being ooo'd and awed at. Bernie truly is the most passionate business owner ever you can feel the love and happiness she gets from seeing her dresses making people feel gorgeous! My friend and I were so excited to see that Bernie Dexter had decided to open a storefront. I am disabled so we had to try to find a day where my body could handle the hour long drive to get there. I double-checked the store hours on Google so that we would make sure to NOT be there when it was closed. The big day rolls around, I'm feeling ok, so my friend and I make the treck out. When we get there we realize...the store is closed and says the next open time is 12pm....it was 12:30pm. No sign saying what days the store is open/closed, no sign for hours. Just "closed" and a dark business. We were so disappointed that we'd driven all the way out so we went in to a little vintage shop down the street. The shop owner asked if we had been in and we said we came all the way out but nothing and no number to call. So she kindly tried to get a hold of someone. She said she also worked there so after she found someone to mind her shop, she took us over to the store. Needless to say, it was not a great experience. We were so excited and dressed up and it was a total hassle. I felt like I had to hurry, and couldn't really look at or try on dresses because she said she was worried about leaving her store...yeah. So while the dresses seemed fairly nice and pretty, the experience itself was not great. It's fine if you want to not be open, but DON'T say this is when I'm open and then not just show up. Not everyone can drive an hour to go to a business that isn't open when stated and there is no number to call, no business voicemail saying hours or closures, just no communication at all. I made sure to check the google listing and it said open ever day and now that it is 5pm, I checked again it says closed. I really tried to do my research on this one, but apparently that was pointless. Perhaps update your closure before the day of? I even tried messaging on Facebook and Instagram, but no response, not even now, 6 hours later. I think next time I'll just go to Naked City or go online. Sad cause I was so happy when I heard this store was opening, but I'm not going to continue go if it's so inconsistent. read more
