It's a small shop but they were accommodating and didn't bat an eye about shopping with my fiance and our baby daughter. I tried on 5 dresses and 2 I just could not decide on so I got both, one for the ceremony one for the reception. They were so affordable I didn't even get near my budget and they even had a recommendation for where to get alterations since I'm super short and kept almost tripping. They even had me try to sit down, a thought which never occurred to me but seems so obvious as a must for any dress under serious consideration. I felt so cared for with all the advice and knowledge they shared and being helped in and out of the dresses I couldn't do myself. Overall just a positive experience and I would encourage anyone to go there, not just because it's a great cause, but also because it's the kind of positivity every bride deserves.

For my first time trying on wedding dresses, I could not have made a worst decision than going to…read morethis shop. TLDR: 1. Associate rushes you through the process, even has a timer that goes off to remind you of the 5min warning. 2. Associate pushes you to buy off the rack, almost makes it seem like it's not worth their time to order a new dress for you. 3. Associate allowed a random party to come into your private, timed, appointment. 4. Associate has very uncomfortable conversations with you in the dressing room. I had never looked at wedding dresses before and was very curious on about the styles that are offered. I informed the associate I wanted a simple dress; she showed me a selection of about 6 so we picked 2. As I waited for my sister to arrive, I continued to look through their selections. But as I continued to browse their options, the associate kept reminding me that usually brides only try on 1-2 to "decide" what style they liked so she heavily recommended I do that before picking out anything else. I agreed with her, but since my sister hadn't arrived yet, looking was my only option. I wasn't going to try on any dresses on without my sister present. She would tell me she's not rushing me but also rush me at the same time. She told me at least 3 times, this recommendation to not select anymore out. Once again, I did not want to start trying on dresses without my sister. In the midst of my private appointment, she let a group of 4 women in to "look really quick." She had a full conversation with them. When my sister arrived, it was so uncomfortable that she had to kick them out and ask them to leave. I was concerned I'd have to come out in a wedding dress with people I didn't even know looking at me. If I signed up for a shared space, I would not have minded. But given this place only allows private appointments, I find it very unprofessional. Regardless of waiting for my guest, it was inappropriate. The associate is very good at reminding you of the 60min appointment. Considering, she gave about 10 minutes of it to another party, I was even more offended when she had an alarm with a 5-minute warning. She thanked me for "letting them in." However, she never asked me if it was appropriate. As my sister inquired about a dress I was interested in and the timeline to order it, the associate went on a tangent about the European designers they work with, how exclusive they are, and that celebrities come all the way to their shop to buy these wedding dresses. She wouldn't give me an exact timeline of when the specific dress would arrive if we ordered. She was more interested in pushing me to buy off the rack and emphasizing to me the $500-$600 I would save. She informed me that unless I'm "serious" about buying a dress, the bridal shop will not "bother" the designer. From the moment stepping into the bridal shop, the associate gave me a lot of compliments. When my sister arrived, she also gave her compliments. As her and I got into the dressing room, she continued the compliment that both my sister and I look like "dolls" and continued to ask me what ethnicity I am. I am Chinese. To which she informed me "she can't ever tell." The compliments continued about my hair being so long and beautiful, but also that she lost a lot of her own hair and it was difficult to grow back. She then reminded me to "enjoy it" while I had all this hair. Though I understand the nicety of making a bride feel beautiful, the entire conversation was so bizarre. I felt so uncomfortable being in a tiny dressing room with her. My sister was 20 minutes late to the appointment. In no way is that the associates fault. I did not expect her to accommodate for that. I did not need more than 30mins to try on the 4 dresses. It was the entire experience that was rushed. There was no breathing room to look at the options in their showroom. How she talked to me was rushed. How she presented options to me was rushed. How she informed me that certain dresses I was looking at is $3K when she never asked me about a budget. Overall, regardless of being liking one of the dresses, I hated my time there. I am disappointed that that was my first experience trying a wedding dress and that's the service I received.

Teri is very…read moregood at explaining how the architecture of a dress works, which is why I picked her over a boutique designer. She was never super friendly during our visits, even forgetting that we had an appointment once or twice. She was pretty cold when I brought my mom and mother in law in.. not very fun during a very exciting time. The most important thing... the dress never had much done to it whenever I had an appointment! She would literally start sowing on it when I'd come in and made very simple and sometimes careless details that I had to ask to have redone with more care. The worst thing, the day of picking up the dress, she was not done with it, finishing it in front of me. She DID NOT FINISH THE SEAMS UNDER MY DRESS. It was literally tattered seams underneath and I had a train, so if it flipped over, it was tattered shreds. She said this was normal, to preserve the soft look on the outside. I took it to two seamstresses afterward and no one said this was normal or acceptable. But we had no time to fix it before the wedding so I wore it anyway. During my wedding I felt self conscious and worried that my dress would show the tatters or would fall apart... as I had jeweled straps and the jewels were very lose. I had to donate my dress afterward because it was just falling apart... and they would only accept the dress because they could use the fabric to practice on lol, they couldn't even fix it to be worn again. Sorry ladies, don't let this happen to you. Get the dress and the experience you deserve, somewhere professional.

After trying on dresses at many stores in the Portland area, I never found something that was exactly what I was looking for. There were elements to several dresses that I loved but none of them combined into one. Here's where Terri at Embellish Design comes in. I decided that having my dress custom-made was the way to go. I contacted Terri and went to her studio in her house in NE Portland. Let's just say that the woman is AMAZINGLY talented. She went to Parsons School of Design in LA and her abilities are incredible. We sat down and discussed different dresses and styles, fabrics and details. She brought out fabric samples and talked about the pros and cons of each. The experience was incredibly fun...we built a dress that was exactly what I had wanted on all fronts (fabric, shape, detail). Her work was incredibly gorgeous AND the cost of the dress when all was said and done was cheaper than any of the dresses I had tried on in the shops. She also has a party dress business called Olivia Luca.

After several (4?) fittings over the course of 6 months the gowns were ready for the big day. When we pulled out the package of pressed dresses in Newport, OR (several hours away) on the day of the wedding, to the bride's shock and horror the maid of honor's dress (mine) was missing. The bride nearly had a heart attack. It was too late to have the dress brought out for the ceremony that was just over an hour away. The shuttle driver at the venue bailed us out of the situation by lending me a dress she had that was similar in color to the bridesmaid's dresses and it all worked out in the end, but it definitely put a small damper on my friend's big day! I'm pretty sure Sovan apologized to the bride and maybe even refunded the cost of one of the dresses to her, but that didn't help me! After going to the shop 4 times (driving down from Seattle) and having to find parking in that area all of those times, I came out of it all with nothing to show for. :(
