After renting in New York since I moved here. Having to move in to a new place just honest stick yourself with pins and needles it is just nerve wracking. With the Berman's however the opposite is true, they only will show you an apartment that is actually actively for rent. Once they have a potential renter for an apartment, they stop showing it to give them an opportunity. It makes the rental process so much easier - I was through the process and in my fantastic new place within a month. The building of theirs that I am in now, it is a dream come true. Any problems super comes right away - if there is going to be an issue, they sent us notifications. The building is kept spotless. Excellent landlords. Transparent about their rental process, communicate clearly, respond quickly to any unit or building issues, are respectful of both tenants and their property. Would highly recommend. Some people have an issue with their no-dog policy but they do not want barking issues, and do this to ensure low noise levels. I had a great experience renting a studio apartment from Berman Realty and had I stayed in the neighborhood I would definitely still be renting from them. My studio was immaculately clean and very nicely renovated, not to mention, it had a dishwasher! Any of the very few "problems" (I'm reluctant to even call them that) that I experienced were dealt with almost instantaneously after I called about them. Signing the lease was a breeze. I have a been a tenant with Berman Realty on and off for almost 20 years. They are excellent landlords. The customer service is definitely five star. Whenever I've needed a repair for something small it is fixed that day. When I've needed a repair for something bigger I've never waited more than 24 hours. One time I had a plumbing issue on a Sunday and a plumber was sent within 2 hours. Berman Realty cares about their properties, which translates into short to little wait times for repairs and excellent customer service. Moreover, they are great to deal with - always friendly, polite and nice. When I have friends who say they are looking for a place in Park Slope I always send them to Berman Realty. I've been living in Park Slope for over a year now and I would recommend Berman Realty in a heartbeat! I visited NYC for a week last summer to look for apartments and came across Berman Realty after doing some research. I called the office to inquire about a listing I saw on their website and Sandra scheduled to meet with me the very next day. She showed me an apartment that was available for an Oct. 1 move in, which was perfect since I was not planning to move to the city until the fall. They ran a credit check and I signed the lease that same day in July! Since moving in, I haven't had any issues. The Bermans properties are beautiful and well-maintained. The Bermans are terrific landlords. We've lived in one of their apartments for 4 years. They list their apartments with as much as a 3-month lead time and do not charge fees, so we had our August 1 move-in confirmed on May 27 and were able to pack and plan our move rather than panic about where we would live. They have always been quick to respond to any issues, usually within an hour. The building is kept clean, and having laundry in the basement has been a game changer after 15 years of laundromat dependance. If we were not leaving NYC we would be staying in Berman Realty apartments for as long as possible. read more

We moved into a 1 bedroom in Parkslope a few months back and were so happy with the whole process with Berman Realty. We were able to secure the apartment 2 months prior to the move-in date, taking away a lot of our stress. We were also able to move in a full week prior to our move-in date since the previous tenants had move out, with no extra charge. I have nothing but great things to say about Berman Realty. I have had a lot of apartment experiences in New York, and Berman is by far the easiest and nicest management company I have ever rented from. We saw our gorgeous apartment on President Street and were approved to lease in about an hour. They didn't charge any unnecessary fees or ask for a ridiculous amount of paperwork. All they required was a credit check and a deposit. They really go out of their way to make their tenants comfortable and happy in their homes. The apartments are clean and beautiful with very nice upgrades like granite counter tops and dishwashers. Any time we had an issue, it was fixed the same day. After two and a half years of renting, my husband and I were given a housing offer we couldn't refuse, and even though we were in the middle of our lease, the Bermans were very fair and worked with us to find a new tenant. Everything worked out, and our security deposit was returned a day after we moved. If you're looking for a great no-fee apartment in Park Slope, Berman Realty is the best place to go! Berman Realty has been a wonderful landlord - the building and apartment are very well maintained and any time we've had a problem they've taken care of it right away. Marc even came over at 8am after a blizzard to fix one of our windows! I am not sure whether all the high stars are from folks who have been previously abused by their landlords before so that a minimum amount of service is deemed to warrant five stars. Berman Realty is very responsive to calls and the family takes pride in their availability so initially you think "this must be some great landlord, they answer their phones and come over if there is a leaky pipe or a bathroom is not working! " But despite their quick responsiveness, you soon learn that they provide the absolute minimum in landlord services. First, the properties were not well kept. The hallways are dusty and are cleaned maybe once a month (if you're lucky). The basements have NEVER been cleaned. They are dusty, grimy and littered with rat and insect traps. The actual apartments are charming with some period details but the actual bathrooms and kitchen can be substandard with cracked tiles and old sinks and tubs. All of this would be fine if the rent was some grand bargain. But it is not. read more

When I began to my apartment search in Park Slope, I browsed Craigslist carefully and jotted down a couple of listings. Meanwhile, I read Berman Realty's seven reviews which made their office sound promising for finding me an apartment. I went on and called one of the Craigslist apartments while actually getting dressed to go up to Berman Realty and sign up with them. The Craigslist call was answered by a man who talked in a fast, bored, rote fashion and told me the listing I was calling on "was already rented" but he had another, a studio (he never bothered to ask what size I was looking for). It was not suitable, so I VERY PLEASANTLY told him that and thanked him and he rather sarcastically said (since I didn't want a studio), "Then WE CAN'T HELP YOU!" and we hung up. I immediately dialed Berman Realty to tell them I was on my way to their office and to inquire about a few listings I had noted on their website. I identified myself to the man who answered the phone and he curtly said, "You just called! We don't have anything for you--if those listings you are calling about now were on our website, the website is not up to date!" No more information, no "but what are you looking for, perhaps we can help you later...", NOTHING but this very curt, nasal-fast-talking man who obviously was not interested in even finding out what I needed. I (again pleasantly) said, "Well goodness, I was on my way up to see you but it seems you don't want me there." His response was, "It's not a matter of wanting you here! We simply have nothing and can't help you!, and THAT'S THE WAY IT IS!" (By then I was so stunned--he never asked anything at all about my needs...just seemed to resent that I had even called UNLESS I WAS INTERESTED IN HIS (ONLY) STUDIO RENTAL:-). I replied nicely but firmly,"Hmmm, maybe you should update your website?" and hung up. What a way to do business! It simply makes one wonder whether the six out of seven earlier fantastic reviews of the outfit were not family or friend PLANTS?? I am glad I caught this attitude upfront, because can you imagine what grief I would have gotten if I had rented one of Berman's properties and later had a legitimate complaint or a problem with the rental? I am absolutely the world's most fair, respectful, careful tenant... so, their loss, MY GAIN from the outset, all due to this guy who was answering phones today! He sounded extremely authoritative, so, although he never identified himself in either of the two phone calls, he was likely, I would think, one of the "Berman Dynasty":-)) read more
