I've been to many smog test centers in my life, but recently I went to Berkeley Smog Test Only Center and WOW, are they great! They took me on time, Jessie did the smog test and I was out in 15 minutes. Their fee was very reasonable. When I returned to my car there was a Ghirardelli chocolate and a Berkeley Smog napkin with the smiley face in the console. What a nice way to end a smog test. My '07 Honda Civic passed with flying colors, as I knew it would (it had just been to the Honda dealer for its routine 5000 mile checkup) but the gentleman with the 1977 8 cylinder Chevy didn't do so well. What impressed me was the knowledge of the technicians, who not only told him that it didn't pass, but told him exactly what the problem was (a leaky 3rd cylinder piston ring). Those guys really know their business. I'd return there any time. read more

I thought I had bought a deal from Living Social, and both employees on duty were very friendly, polite and patient as I futilely tried to find a LS certificate even though they knew Berkeley Smog had never participated in a LS deal. Finally, one of them mentioned AAA Deals and I realized my deal was through AAA, not LS. Duh! They even let me use their desktop computer and Internet connection to log in to AAA Deals and find the certificate. They started to smog test my car even before I found the certificate online. (Of course, if I had not found it, I would have gladly paid full price because it was my mistake.) They worked quickly and professionally, and my car passed smog test. :D Yes, I found a piece of Ghirardelli chocolate on a napkin with a big smiley on my dash when I got into my car. :D Thanks, Berkeley Smog! read more

Don't be fooled by the appearance of the place. Clearly this outfit wants strong ratings and is willing to make the extra efforts to earn those ratings. I was very impressed with the efficiency and good nature of the person that helped me. He was alone and had to deal with 3 or 4 people while I was there. He was still able to keep the entire process to under a half hour for everyone, and that included one person who suffered a failure, which took some time for patient and sympathetic explanation. read more

Let's face it, getting your car smogged sucks. That being said, this was the least sucky experience I have had by far. The guy running the place was super friendly and helped me as soon as I arrived. I had an appointment I made online and I was in and out in 14 minutes (to be precise). The price was very upfront so you don't feel like you got screwed like at the other places who never put the state fees on until after they already did the work. The waiting area is chill and there are chairs outside as well. I will certainly be back in a couple months with our other car. read more
