It breaks down like this: Are you looking for a relaxing day with some locals and regulars who love this place (maybe a little too much) and have built a legitimate community around it? I suggest weekend afternoons for some tunes on the jukebox and sports on the TVs, Tuesday nights for open mic and Wednesday nights for Poker. Looking to find the broad of your dreams with those child bearing hips and a vague interest in the trad wife movement? Try Thursday and Saturday nights for Karaoke (and wear your square-toed cowboy boots and trucker hat, the ladies love that shit here). One thing is always true though, the management and bartenders are friendly, warm and great at their jobs. Regardless of the day or time, you'll find a professional behind the bar ready to make you feel welcome- but don't be a douche, even pros have their limits. Stopped in on an early Sunday afternoon when the first round of NFL games was being enjoyed on the multiple TVs by regulars. Our bartender was friendly and attentive. Coined as a neighborhood dive bar, Berkeley Inn stays true to form with its cheap prices and no frills. The place is clean, you can smoke out back, outside food can be brought in, pickle shots are $5, and Jello shots $2.50. Bartender the morning of 5/2 is an absolute clown. My drunk friend walked out front with his bottle of beer (obviously a big no-no) and instead of the bartender just asking him to come in he acted like a complete fool yelling and screaming. I feel I need to update this review to pound my point home. This IS the best dive bar in Denver. No food, so don't ask for it. Dive bar. Pool table, great staff, GTee, Karaoke, live music, great owner (Andrew), back door for smokers, and they now even own the ultimate in dive bar lore. An Adjective-Animal bar in the Fainting Goat. New location. Both locations offer great outside after-shot venues. Downtown is always cool, of course. Tennyson is such a cool street, Mary served us today and was awesome, and Alyssa is awesome in her own rite. Alyssa greets regulars like family, and we always appreciate it. Andrew got some new pool sticks, so sharks like me can be better, jukebox works, but you will still have people on their couch changing the songs...technology. I haven't been to the Fainting Goat since I worked down the street, but I assume Andrew either ramped up the menu, or didn't diminish it. I remember the burger being WELL above par. If you are local and haven't been either place, then you are missing out. If you are visiting and haven't put either place in the itinerary, then you are missing out. Definitely recommend and see you there (actually, you probably might). Oh, and if you run into this guy playing pool, or me, you probably will lose (we actually played that whole game with crutches). My boyfriend loves this place and they have great drink deals. Unfortunately, the only time I went, they gave my credit card to someone else. Rather than trying to render the situation, the waitress shrugged her shoulders, minimized how big of a deal the situation was, and told me... don't worry, your card was still charged for your drinks. I still had to pay my entire bill with no offers for anything to be comped or to take my information in case the person who had my card came back for theirs. It's been 5 days, I still am without a credit card replacement, and then I get to go ahead and change all my information on countless apps and auto payments. Full disclosure: review based on a Monday night visit. Things may be different on a weekend. The bartender was super friendly but didn't really know how to make anything. They also didn't have some types of alcohol on hand. Not many choices - but if your drink expectations are simple it's a decent place. We watched football, listened to jukebox music, and enjoyed ourselves. First time in. Let me tell you I'm not one to write a Yelp review on a whim. I plain don't care a majority of the time. But as someone that frequents dive bars and drinks like a fish, I can say with certainty this place waters down their liquor. The owners have disputed it(I'm not the first one to notice), but I'm willing to stake quite a bit on this. Prices aren't even great for a non-watered down beverage. In fact, let this be an open challenge to the owners if they disagree: I'll pay for a test, to be held at a date/time of my choosing, to verify the proofing of a liquor, chosen by me at the time of said test. I went to this bar last night for the second time. The first time I went on a Saturday, it was nice but not too busy. Last night, however, the place was packed, and the energy was great--except for one major issue: the unbelievably rude bouncer. I'm 32, and not only was my ID checked at the door, but it was checked three more times as I made my way through the bar. Normally, I would take this as a compliment to my youthfulness but at this point it felt malicious. By the third time, I was beyond frustrated. At this point you'd think he would recognize us? It was really hard to enjoy the night. The worst part? It was the same bouncer each time, and he continued to treat my friends and me with the same disrespect. We eventually left because the awful service completely ruined the experience. The bartenders were great both nights. I just cannot get over the awful mistreatment from their security. We were on a double date with the in-laws and decided to stop in for drinks after dinner. The bar is a little divey, which is our type of place. They also had a band that night and although they were good, they weren't playing a loft of tunes that we knew. They played a lot of their original songs. Good for them, they sounded great. The best part of this place was the awesome bartender. He was really fun and attentive and just seemed like a really nice guy. The bar was kind of busy and he was turning out drinks left and right. We even left and came back and he remembered our drink order. Great time! The only issue I had was it really smelled like fried bar food in there. Was surprised to get a bill for $22 or $24 for 3 Blue Moons. Sure they're not Coors Lights but a little steep for a dive bar on Tennyson, IMO. Convenient that they have an ATM inside as right now (April 2021) it is cash only. Service is good, though and the seats near the garage-door-style windows are nice. We have enjoyed going to the Berkeley Inn for years. It is a great spot on Tennyson that offers fresh drinks, friendly bartenders and a really fun night life. We've had a blast on Karaoke Nights. The Karaoke DJ is super friendly, runs a smooth request system and keeps the energy at a high level. The phone request system is smooth and allows for a lot of participation from the karaoke crowd. Smoker's Delight! If you don't love smoke, I hope you like second hand! We walk in at 10am for a bloody mary advertised as $3 outside while we wait for a table next door. Each seat at the bar had its own personal ashtray. (they sell the required min. of tobacco products to skirt around the man) A giant sassy red head bartendress set us up with three of the spiciest, well garnished bloodies in my experience. I liked her attitude, especially in the dark dingy hole exactly opposite of the cafe next to it. I guess they share owners, because she offered us the chance to order & eat there instead but alas, we declined. This place is alright to hang out and play pool- I only say this because I know one of the bartenders that's still there and support my friends wherever they go- unfortunately last time we stopped in they had a live band and I couldn't hear past the noise they call music,- along with the drunk yuppies,.. I'm trying support the last of the local bars that are left in the Berkeley neighborhood- Sadly being only a few these days- So thought I'd give this dive another try- The boys are having a pool tournament today, and a couple of my friends are in it so thought I'd watch and support them- so today is Sunday and it has a different feel to it- (a good one) it's kick back and feels like it use to- Someone has really good taste in music because my ears like what I hear- The new face behind the counter( Alex )is really nice and made me feel special !! I've been here a few times to drink and watch karaoke with friends. On Saturday, a friend and I stopped in and after being there less than 30 minutes, we were roofied. What's bar drama without a fight? It wasn't hard to hear the action, screaming insults and curse words flying across the pool table. You had to squint your eyes to see past the thick layers of smoke: this is a smoker's oasis, what ordinance? Nobody threw a punch, to my disappointment, though three separate groups got close. The bartender stopped one heated-pushing-angry argument by telling one large woman she had a fat ass and should shut her fat mouth: it worked. I came to hear Doug play guitar, which would have been more than enough Saturday night entertainment since my friend Jay was up there and so was my man. But, tonight I was ADD, and sat perched attentively on the edge of my chair. The vending machine held something for everyone: pork rinds, cigarettes, and candy bars, oh my. Did the video games reflect the patrons? (Hunting with a plastic rifle, bowling, and some kind of video strip poker.) A stranger approached our table. After bragging about playing basketball in college, he asked who I was with. I pointed to my man. Stranger pointed to Doug's brother, and said I was with the wrong man. Um. No. A security monitor showed a parking lot on a small television above our heads. We watched as one couple run through the lot, jumped into a truck, and start to... well.... do something that made them mostly naked and flail around a lot. So, this is reality TV. Another stranger approached our table. "It's not usually this rough in here. I've been coming here for years." Huh. I was just thinking I'd hit one of the most interesting bar nights of my life when he added, "I'm the pretty one." I turned to Dave and assured him we'd stumbled upon something archeologists yearned for: not a time warp or a dinosaur bone: a whole alternate universe. Our new friend came back and dubbed Dave and I 'The best couple in the bar.' My poor man. Tearing it up on stage with one lead guitar solo after another, and complete strangers were trying to mess with our relationship. Hey. Maybe that's how all those fights started in the first place? This used to be one of my favorite spots to stop in and have a drink once the Music bar closed down but not so much anymore. I used to frequent this spot because I am not much for the hipster bars that have popped up all over the Northside because of the yuppies but this bar has fallen too far down hill. The owners son thinks he can yell at people and curse them out of no known reason and think they will come back - I think not! I was't a huge fan if this place. I'm not 100% sure why not - I usually love dive bars, but something about this place felt off to me. For one, I expect cheap prices when I go to a dive, and while it wasn't expensive here, I felt slightly cheated when compared to some other local dive bars. And then it was really bright when my friends and I went - it was a brightness that enhanced all the wrong things about the bar, and you could see the dinginess that usually gets covered up by poor lighting. Maybe not the worse thing, but it led to an overall lackluster experience. The bartender was quick, maybe a little lacking on the friendliness, but she got the job done. One thing I will say for this place... pretty much the cleanest dive bar I've seen, even with a dog running around it. The place has the dive bar feel without the grossness, so that was nice. It was really dark with a long bar and some neon lighting. Three different TVs playing golf, baseball and football. The only downside for me was the drinks aren't really that cheap, which you normally expect when entering a dive bar. They had a happy hour from 7am-noon... which seems basically useless to me unless you're an early morning alcoholic, but I'm sure they have a few. I had a Stella which was like $5 and the boyfriend had a Summer Ale, also $5. If I wanted to pay $10 for 2 beers I could have stayed at the De Steeg Brewery down the street where I don't mind paying that much for craft beer. However, I do mind when I go to a dive bar looking for cheaper beers. I will say our bartender/waitress was really nice and quick so that was good. Watching a lady eat cold chicken from a bag and feed it to her dog at the bar was a little creepy though... So maybe if we come during another happy hour it will be okay. read more

This place fits the definition of "Dive bar" to a D. Seriously. They recently had to abide by the no smoking law that has been in place for so long here. Not really sure how they got away with it before, but you can definitely tell a lot of smoking has happened here. We came in on a Friday night and ALL THE TAPS were $2. Looking for a real honest dive bar, not some trendy "dive" bar that hipsters have overrun? Look no further than the Berkeley Inn! Blink as you walk by and you'll miss the entrance - a single door on a flat white wall with a sign way too high to see just walking down the sidewalk... My kind of place, you almost have to know it's there to find it! Open the door and be greeted by a dimly lit narrow room with a bar stretching most of the way down the left side. A few bar flies might look up at you from their drinks as you walk in, definitely sizing you up wondering if you're just some trendy ass walking in or good company - again, my kind of place! To the right a handful of tables and chairs, a few arcade cabinets, pool tables and juke box in the back ending with a hallway to the bathrooms and smoking area in the alley out back. Berk used to be one of the last bars grandfathered in and allowed you to smoke inside. Unfortunately for us smokers, they have had that privilege removed... Walk up to the bar and be greeted by any one of the awesome bartenders that work there and order a couple cheap PBRs or whatever tickles your fancy and enjoya true neighborhood dive bar with dim lighting, plenty of dive bar atmosphere, and don't forget to feed the juke box that has more choices than you can imagine! read more
