Looking for a real honest dive bar, not some trendy "dive" bar that hipsters have overrun? Look no further than the Berkeley Inn! Blink as you walk by and you'll miss the entrance - a single door on a flat white wall with a sign way too high to see just walking down the sidewalk... My kind of place, you almost have to know it's there to find it! Open the door and be greeted by a dimly lit narrow room with a bar stretching most of the way down the left side. A few bar flies might look up at you from their drinks as you walk in, definitely sizing you up wondering if you're just some trendy ass walking in or good company - again, my kind of place! To the right a handful of tables and chairs, a few arcade cabinets, pool tables and juke box in the back ending with a hallway to the bathrooms and smoking area in the alley out back. Berk used to be one of the last bars grandfathered in and allowed you to smoke inside. Unfortunately for us smokers, they have had that privilege removed... Walk up to the bar and be greeted by any one of the awesome bartenders that work there and order a couple cheap PBRs or whatever tickles your fancy and enjoya true neighborhood dive bar with dim lighting, plenty of dive bar atmosphere, and don't forget to feed the juke box that has more choices than you can imagine! read more

It is so refreshing to be able to get a beer for less than $6 in popular Denver neighborhoods. A friendly joint with some character. If you're on Tennyson and don't know where to go next I'd recommend stopping in here to think about it over some PBR and fried food. read more

One of the best dive bars....eeeveeeeer! I don't even know where to start, so I will try to keep it short. #1-the smell of cigarette smoke as you walk in--what? Who said there was no smoking in bars in D-Town? #2- Three patrons at nearby table, sitting below photos of themselves on wall of fame (I wonder how many drinks you gotta buy to have this honor) #3- One of the strongest Jack and Cokes I have ever had #4- Bartender breathing fire!!! As far as dives go, this place is one of the best! I stumbled in accidently, looking to kill 30 minutes before a table was ready at DJ's Berekeley Cafe next door. Was greeted by a rather old woman who seemed friendly, if not drunk. She said they opened every morning at 7am, which kind of shocked me. Secondly, this has got to be the only bar in Denver that lets one smoke indoors. The walls are adorned with the most tragic looking people you ever saw, but it was dark, dank, and quiet. Perfect place to wait out the Brunch rush or just get blotto in the middle of the day. I think I'll probably be back! read more

We love this place! The whole staff including the owner, Lisa have created an establishment that is both FUN and comfortable. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly and will always remember your name. We currently own a sports bar in DC and know how important that is to customers. We are often in the Denver area, and always make it a point to go here. Don't bother with this place, you won't get a chuckle, a smile, a free drink, a friendly pour or friendly service because the "bartenders hands are tied"- the night we went the bartender was super lame- I don't mind paying my share, but if I am spending $ on a night out at the neighborhood dive bar I would hope for a friendly atmosphere and service. Made it to the Berkeley Inn last night. Highlanders can take the 38 bus to Tennyson and you're basically there. If it's your first time there, you're going to get the stinkeye from the regulars for about the first hour, but that's just to make sure you're not working undercover. Four PBR's later, you'll be good to go. Great jukebox (I played Dylan, G'n'R, and Howlin' Wolf) and cheap pool (.75 per game). The bar staff was great. The bathrooms, contrary to what you might have heard, were actually clean and decent (vomit-free!). And indoor smoking! Only place in Denver where you can hear Ministry's "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up - Live" album in its entirety. And freaking Metallica's "Call of Ktulu" with the San Francisco Philharmonic. Great place. Will be back. read more

Sometimes my lungs feel too clear, so I head to the Berkeley Inn. I like this place for one reason, and one reason only - it's a totally genuine, unassuming dive. There are no hipsters or wildly overpriced drinks, just booze, pool, and a boat load of smoke hanging in the air. read more

Waited for a cake to be iced at Cake bakery next door. Decided to drop in the Berkely Inn while we waited. Loved it so much that stopped in again on Sunday with my husband for Bloody Mary's. It was weird because all the same people from Friday were in again on Sunday. Friday I had a red wine and it was a good pour. My friend ordered a Margarita that was shaken and served in a big glass. Bloody Mary's were perfect on Sunday. $5 drinks. Seriously. Bartenders were great and since it was our first visit I was given a card for a free drink next time. Forgot to use the free drink card but that is o.k. because we will be back. The owners son Cory is rude and drives customers away. He thinks he can bad mouth and give bad service. Then he expects a tip. He is a jerk and should not be bartending. He ruins customers relax time. Sad thing is owners baby boy and he will keep bartending. If you want to drink and relax, go elsewhere. read more

This is the best dive bar in Denver. The new owner has cleaned it up, painted inside and out, added a patio, new tables, no smoking (but you can smoke out on the patio), good music and great free food on Friday at 5pm. Stop by and see for your self. read more

If you're a northsider. Not a "Highlander" or "Berkeley" resident or one of the many other names people new to this side of town have given themselves you know or knew about the Berk (or the Bezerkeley as we liked to call it). Yeah the biker bar or the local coke dispensary or the place where the joke was, "What do you get when you have a group of women from the Berkeley? A full set of teeth!". Well prior to the major influx of new blood to the 'hood, I ran an open stage with my band there for.. man was it almost 10 years? Ass crazy! The stories I could tell. Well that was a while ago and I only went back once after the change in ownership to play a birthday party there. I figured cool, smoking ban, this will be alright! I was wrong. "Grandfather clause"'d in as a "cigar bar". So, when I opened the door, a wall of smoke rolled out! Suckage! Well what prompted me to write this review is a friend of mine recently played there and invited me out to jam. A little bit of trepidation about swimming in cigar and cig smoke ensued. Swung that door open and NO SMOKE and guess what, the majority of the barflies (many of which were my buds btw) were gone so, it is now a gentrification acceptable establishment! Bittersweet. Coolness factor went down, livability (including the men's head, phew) factor went up. That'll work. read more

Saw a couple of great bands last night at Berkeley. Black Lamb and Swami. Incredible music at a great venue. Hope to see them again.

Classic Denver dive. If you don't get it, ya probably never will. There are plenty of other "classy" places waiting to rip you off.
