I brought my 2002 accord in because I had an issue on a long drive and wanted to check it out. I agreed to pay the $159 diagnostic fee. later that day I went by and they said they drove it, tried everything, could not find anything wrong. and Rory waived the fee, which I said he didn't have to do, and he did it anyway. I then drove 6 hours no prob. so while I must say that I have no experience with their actual work I will say they seemed nice and really fair. read more

Just got home from an unconscionable experience. I went to get a tune up on the car for my boyfriend (it's his car) and at first it was fine. They were pleasant. Until it came to the end. They didn't ask me any questions until the very end. I thought it would be covered by our warranty but it was not... and when I told them that I thought it would be they immediately got defensive... or at least one guy did. I don't know his name and I don't want to. I put my boyfriend on the phone with him and whomever it was didn't even WANT to hear what he had to say he just responded "I'm not going to continue this conversation since you're cursing at me. I'm not going to continue this. I'm giving the phone back now. Have a shitty day sir." My boyfriend didn't even raise his voice at him. The phone was loud enough so I could hear the entire conversation. And at the end whoever this was threw my phone back at me. Meanwhile all the guys in the office crowded around to listen at which I asked if we really need the entire office here. And ALL of them got deeply offended. When I resolved the issue and went back to finally pay another person I hadn't seen before helped me but didn't even make eye contact or speak to me. Just "sign" and "here" when he finally brought my car. But still I was polite and thanked him and got the hell out of there. And after reading all the other posts (including the one from just yesterday) I am NEVER going to return. I will go out of my way to tell people not to go here. I want to believe that I wasn't treated this way because I am a woman. I want to believe that they just have shit for brains and shit customer service. Whether you're a man or woman... just don't go here. There are more capable and courteous Honda mechanics else where. I guess these guys get off on the horrible way they treat customers (especially women)... I feel like that's the only explanation for the constant crap service. read more

I had the absolute WORST experience yesterday at this place. I called them up looking for a Honda Fit Sport which has an MSRP of around $16,000. They had that sticker in the window for this amount, then a hokey computer print out asking for over $21,000!! For an economy car! When we tried to negotiate, our initial sales person was very reasonable and willing to work with us, but then again, he said it was his first day on the job (who knows if that was true). Things were going well until his manager came out, insulted us by asking if we were on medication, validated that they could charge $21,000 for an ECONOMY car because it was "desirable" and then started **berating** us as to who exactly would be the title holder for the car (which would be both myself and my partner). He came back with an APR that did not match our FICO credit score that we (thankfully) looked up before we came in. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. No one should have to deal with crooks like this. read more

Impossible to get through on their phone system. They are aware of it but still haven't fixed the problem. Had new front brakes put in only to have a whirring sound emerge, the very next day, when I would come to a stop, Had to bring car back in, but now can't reach them to see what progress is being made. I have a 2007 Accord. Service worker told me, at first, that I need a new timing belt at a cost of $1,300. The fact is there is no timing belt on a 4 cylinder 2007 Accord. There is a chain. I went in a few times to service my 2002 Honda civic. They did the work, satisfactorily, but I was told I needed to shell out extra money for things like parts of my brakes were corroded (since I drove the car from an area that gets salted). I had a break in my exhaust line and was told to order a new catalytic converter for $$$$$. A more honest shop advised me to go to a muffler shop to repair it for a reasonable cost. read more

I HATE car dealers (don't we all?). When the salesmen talk, i repeat to myself over and over "everything they are saying is a lie". If it seems like they aren't lying, I assume they're just a good salesman. I'm saying this because the fact that I had a GOOD experience with this Honda dealership says a lot. I had bad experiences with about a half dozen dealers while looking for my new car (mostly with sleazy high pressure salesmen). BUT, I actually had a very positive experience with this particular dealership. I knew I wanted a Honda Fit and called about 20 dealers in the area to negotiate prices. Berkeley Honda agreed to the lowest price of anyone. When I showed up, there was no hassle, no pressure to add extras. They stuck to the price they told me, didn't seem slimy and didn't pressure me. Add another voice to the chorus: Rory, the service adviser, is an idiot and a jerk. I brought my car in with a thermostat problem. He tried to charge me $150 for an hour of diagnostic work, during which time they could not even reproduce the problem. Then, he told me that 80% of the time my particular problem is fixed by an $89 part, so he suggested they just put the part in and see what happens. Me: "If this problem is fixed 80% of the time by replacing an $89 part, why am I paying for $150 of diagnostic work that achieved nothing? Why didn't you just replace the part first, and do the diagnostic work if that fails?" Rory: "It doesn't work that way. We have to understand the problem first, we're not going to just throw parts at the problem." Me: "But that's exactly what you're going to do now: you didn't get anywhere with the diagnostic work, and now you're going to speculatively replace that part. The only difference is that I'm out $239 rather that $89. If you had told me all of this when I dropped off the car, I would have told you to just replace the part, 80% is pretty good odds." Rory [angrily]: "We don't work that way. I'm done with this, come get your car out of here." What an idiot. What a jerk. Never again. read more

I really appreciated the customer service at this Honda center, I felt welcome and well taken care of from the very start. I came in for an alignment check after getting new tires from Costco (because the Richmond Costco won't check your alignment for you after tire service, weird?). But anyways, Bill was extremely helpful and personable, honoring the 15% discount I received from Costco and explaining to me how my alignment was fixed. He also made suggestions for some things to watch out for concerning my car (2001 Honda Accord with 200,000+ miles, it's definitely seen better days but is still running great). And even suggested that I have my previous service details emailed to him so that he and his team could make better and more accurate recommendations for me in the future. Will definitely be coming back to get my Honda serviced here from now on. read more

I was racing up the 80 to help a friend who was having major complications from her surgery. On the freeway, my oil pan bent because it was not adequately installed by another dealer after a recent oil change. I inched my way up to Berkeley Honda auto center service department, never having been there before. I went in, explained the situation. They bolted on the auto pan for free. Ordered me a new one. And I was on my way within an hour. My heroes. I have continued to use them ever since - Even though it's a bit of a drive for me, It is worth it. Professional, honest, great service and the very best of everything. I want to particularly complement and commend Eddie Zarazoza - For his many kindnesses and most excellent help. Wow, I just read the other reviews and am shocked the regional people haven't cracked down on these guys already. My friend took her Honda in to have the transmission serviced, and they offered a free multi point inspection (to which she said yes). The service department said everything was fine, and she drove off; but before she got home the car overheated- prior to this she never had any problems with the cooling system. She managed to get to the local Honda dealership who said she should have it towed back, that they clearly did something while looking/working on the car. She had it towed back, and they said they would take care of it. And they did- they replaced all kinds of cooling system stuff and told her she owed an additional $400, that it was 'just a coincidence' that it broke' right after she left. After writing a letter to the general manager, he had Paul call her, but they refused to take any responsibility for what happened. Based on the other negative reviews, it's clear these guys are in total denial about the shlocky work they do, and I', sorry to say would avoid these guys at all costs. My friend is very sweet and they totally took advantage of her- I'm even worried about the work they did. I can't believe Honda tolerates this kind of activity- I would have never told her to take her car there had I seen these poor reviews first. Sorry guys, but you should know better. read more

I swear to God my comments are true and not faked - Do not go to their service department! It is a LIAR! I wished I could give them a ＮＥＧＡＴＩＶＥ　5 star！ I scheduled an oil change and tire rotation some time ago. I came back after a whole afternoon waiting to pick up my car and the tires were never ever rotated. And the face-thick-like-a-wall advisor told me that he saw the technician rotated tire - a total lie! The front wheels were dirty(because near the engine) before I came in and still the same when I picked it up- this clearly showed the tires were NEVER rotated. The "generous" advisor suggested coming back and "put my tires back"- I really admired his adamant stiffness on their mistakes! What a great liar he is! They never rotated my tires and how on earth they could put the back? A totally dishonest store! Do not go! read more

This review is for Rory Dimick in the Service Department. Rory has been a stellar for us. He's very straightforward and honest. He gave us cost-sensitive advice on what to do for our 1994 Honda Accord. He's came through for us twice. Once, I had the Accord brought in for repairs before I started a commute from the East Bay to the Peninsula. He made sure the repairs allowed us to drive several months without issue and did it in the most cost effective manner. And more recently, the check engine light came on and it was a mystery to all those involved what was wrong with the car. Rory did everything in his power to make things right. He made sure their most-experienced technician was taking a look at the car. The car needed a new on-board computer. Rory tracked it down, had it installed, and controlled the ultimate cost. We were pleased with his efforts. During a test run, the car needed a tow but Rory didn't charge us for it. read more

Even though I look really young, Ken treated me as a serious buyer and with respect. He asked me what trim I was interested in and showed me the best car they had for what I wanted. We went on a test drive and chatted about the pros and cons of choosing between the Civic and the Mazda3, another car I was considering. He wasn't pushy at all about buying the Civic and really described their differences and the strengths of each. Then, we sat down to discuss the best price he could give me for the car, and it was definitely a great deal. Although I ended up not choosing to buy a Honda, if I were to buy a Honda in the future, I would definitely come back and ask for Ken. Speedy, courteous, and honest service with him. read more

Took my 2016 Accord in for it's first oil change and first experience at a Honda Shop. Was not overly impressed. Friendly staff excepting the service advisor Rory Dimick who seemed to be in a bad mood. You might think Honda would want the service manager to be extra friendly on the new car owner's first service visit but that was not his style. Waiting room OK free WIFI and coffee etc. and they gave me back my car ahead of estimated time. Price was good at $46.70. But all in all will try another dealer for the next oil change to see if friendlier service manager. read more

So we bought two cars here last September and that was seamless, actually a really nice experience. Then we brought one of the cars back and had a terrible run-in with their service manager, Rory. I won't get into it, but as you can read in many of the other reviews, Rory was both totally incompetent and a complete misogynist and power-tripper. The next day, the owner, Tim, called us and said he wanted to make the snafu with Rory the day before right, which he did, fixing our car and getting us a rental car which they paid for. So basically the upshot is, for service issues, don't deal with Rory. If for some reason you do choose to deal with Rory, and he starts doing his power-trip routine, just ask to speak to Tim, the owner, who seems pretty reasonable, fair, and concerned with treating his customers right. read more

I normally do not give negative yelp reviews, however I was really upset about this situation. I went to Honda of Berkeley to check out a car. I was really interested and ready for paper work. There were a few minor tear and wear. They said they had to look up quotes for an estimate to fix it. And they told me l would get a call back the next morning about the quote. I Did not hear back from Honda of Berkeley. A few more days past and still nothing. Another day pass and I got notice that the car was sold! However, it was not contact from Honda of Berkeley but Carguru who linked me to Honda of Berkeley in the first place. Long story short I am not pleased with them. Let me start by saying I did NOT purchase my Honda here. I bought it at another dealership in the East Bay. My car was used and didn't come fully equipped, so I've been investing in some accessories to make it whole, so to speak. It was also missing the front license plate and mount. I have brought my car to this dealership to install a rear bumper applique and also to install the front license plate mount that I later found. The first time I went in, I didn't have an appointment but they installed the license plate mount right there AND they didn't charge me for the installation. Before I went in a second time, I called Honda of San Francisco to see how much they would charge for installing a rear bumper applique and they quoted me $170. I called Berkeley Honda and they quoted me $70. It's a no-brainer: I went with Berkeley Honda. However, when I took it in to have the bumper applique installed, THEY DIDN'T CHARGE ME. I have no idea what I've done in order to earn their good graces (maybe owning a Honda helps?) but I'll be damned if I didn't write a good review. This kind of customer service goes above and beyond what I've previously experienced. Dealing with dealership service centers is a mixed bag for a lot of people, but Berkeley Honda has been nothing but a dream. I'm indebted to them for their awesome customer service! read more

I had a mediocre purchasing experience at Berkeley Honda in 3/09, but after I purchased the car the experience got worse. I was contacted by the sales rep requesting a copy of my Social Security card, due to Fraud Alert I placed on my credit. I followed up with the so called "Finance Director, David Funderburk to resolve the issue. Fraud alerts can easily be cleared by the credit holder verifying info with the creditor. However, David refused to accept that and insisted there was no way this deal could happen without a copy of my SS card. He became very insulting saying things like I could bring the car back and you won't get the loan. I could not believe I was being subjected to this rude incompetent after having just purchased a $18K car. With much consternation from him, I insisted that he put me in touch with Honda Finance. Contacted Honda Finance and cleared the credit alert problem in 5 minutes. I brought this incident to the owner of Berkeley Honda, and got little satisfaction. I also received a recorded message from Berkeley Honda requesting that I give them a good rating on the Honda survey coming. These are just more an example of how poorly this business is run. My goal was to get a car, & that was accomplished. I would not buy from this dealer again. Next time I'll go to the dealer with good recommendations & part of the Honda President's club. However, now that I'm having trouble with the battery, they are telling me that the battery is considered a maintenance item, and that it is NOT covered. They sold me the extended warranty using false information--I'm furious. I used this dealer for maintenance as well, until I had just one too many questionable experiences. Do your homework, before you say yes! Twice, now, I've been told, after inspection, that I needed to get my breaks replaced at 3.9 mm. First time, the back. Second time, the front. Well, glad I called back and asked when I'm suppose to get them changed, because the answer is it is advised to replace them, when they are at 2 mm. I just saved $300!.....Sigh. I'm disappointed that it looks like it will be for the best for me to take my business elsewhere? Been loyal for years. But it's not fare that the customer has to be on top of their game and double check what they are advised, so they aren't taken advantage of. I give this rating a two, because half of the advisers that I've been loyal with, have given the dealership a good rep and I've been satisfied. But the other half....Oh, my God! You better do your homework, before you say yes! New Entry: Aug. 29th, 2012 So, just talked to Art's Automotive and one of the guy's said my car doesn't even have rear breaks. It has drums and at the mm that they are, mine still have thickness and don't need to be replaced, yet.....Oh, yeah! That was exactly what one of the honest advisers, at Berkeley Honda, told me, before he quit. He pointed out to me that the Hinda adviser, before him, lied to me, when he told me that back breaks need to be replaced, too. Cuz I have drums. And now, I have an inspection paper telling me the same thing, by another Honda adviser, wanting $300 plus labor....Jeez! Glad I just saved myself more money. Oh, and the Art's Automotive guy said I may not need one of the other services Berkeley Honda told me that I needed, because it's natural for automatics to do that, and if it was his car, he wouldn't fix it. Wow! I might've just saved hundreds of more dollars! Well, a Berkeley tow truck company did recommend Art's Automotive and they almost have 5 stars on yelp. Let's just say, I am going to get my car inspected from them and take it, form there. But yeah, I'm not going to pay $800, if I don't need those kinds of services, yet. But I sure as hell will, when it is honestly necessary. ~I changed my ratings, today. New Entry: Sept. 6th, 2012 I'm at Art's Automotive and they told me that all I need is my transmission fluid changed, for $40. Berkeley Honda was going to charge $159.95. They also told me that Berkeley Honda didn't put my oil cap on tight enough, when they did my oil change, over a week ago, and it was about to pop off and all of my oil would've come out. He also said it was too soon to do all the other stuff that Berkeley Honda said I needed. Also, my parents want me to take my receipt from Berkeley Honda and Art's Automotive and send copies to the Better Business Bureau, to file a complaint about Berkeley Honda and they wish for me to never return to Berkeley Honda, for the rest of my life and hope that I learned my lesson. Two years ago I bought a Honda from the dealer in Salinas. The transaction took 3.5 hours, exhausting me. The car was not washed, the stickers still on the windshields when I took possession. When I finally drove off with my car I noticed there was barely an eighth tank of gas. This was at 9 pm. Had to find a gas station in an area I was not familiar with in the dark immediately. Awk! Why did I NOT think they cared about me? Five thousand miles later I noticed the tires were BALD. I had to buy new tires to the tune of $750. I complained to the dealership, and after much unpleasantness, was reimbursed $250. I go into this not great experience to provide a contrast to Honda of Berkeley, where I just bought a Fit. The experience in Berkeley was almost uniformly great: Brian V. allowed me to test drive as long as I wanted--by myself. So I could take my time and really put the car through its paces. He did not pressure me to buy. He showed me how I could save money. He was just a pleasure to deal with. There was a little salesmanship involved, but not the "I am your best friend; you can trust me" kind of "c--p". I found a lower price online. When I called Brian V. he matched it, saving me $800. I picked up the car a few hours later. It was washed, stickers removed, some extra bells provided free, tires with full tread, and, best of all, A FULL TANK OF GAS. And, above and beyond, when I picked the car up he took a half hour and showed me all the bits of engineering that makes the Fit so great, how to change seat positions, all the cubbies, etc. What a relief after Honda in Salinas! This is a review for the sales side. I just purchased a 2010 Honda Fit Sport was overall very pleased with my experience at Berkeley Honda. I negotiated an out-the-door price over the internet with Ocean Cheung, who was very helpful, professional, and willing to work with me. It was a easy and painless process. After agreeing on a price we showed up at the dealership, took a quick test drive, filled out the paperwork, and drove home. No one contested the price or tried to inflate it. We were offered accessories (floor mats, wheel locks, etc) at prices which were much higher than market price, but there was no pressure at all after I declined them.
