This place is so cute! This seems like irregular country store with all the fixings, but they also have a petting zoo! They have goats, bunnies, ponies, donkeys, bunnies, chickens, and many many more. We got their little paradise custard ice cream, which I didn't realize had coconut. Oh man, that was so good! Definitely a cute spot to bring your kids or a nice outdoor date.
There is plenty of parking. We came on a Monday afternoon. They have parking in front of the building that has food but also overflow parking for when it's busier. There is a little hut to pay to see the animals. The kids loved being able to go into the gates to hold or pet the various animals. The signs helped to explain things as well. We went inside the main building where they had plenty of snacks, treats, food, and beverages. The staff was super friendly and patient. They had so many goodies to look at for purchase.
Bergey's was so much fun! First we got sandwiches for lunch. The veggie sandwich was delicious. It had avocado, peppers , lettuce, onion. The bread it was on was the best! I also got chips and a root beer. It was great. Next we walked around the farm. Goats , cows, pigs , ducks , cats, alpacas and more goats, and bunnies! It was exciting! Everyone was super friendly. The staff in the food shop and outside were knowledgeable and helpful. Place was clean, cute, and easy to figure out. It's big! With the food shop, farm, corn maze. It was a great time at Bergey's.
I enjoyed my bbq sandwich. I like how they have two sizes to choose from. The chips and soda from PA - win win Yum! I finished with a peanut butter pie ice cream cone - perfect ending to my lunch. The staff were all friendly, helpful, and engaging. There are a few tables inside and some outside, as well. In the area, Check Them Out!
Have been going for the past 3 years and this farm always has amazing prices. The staff is very friendly inside the shop, plenty of options to choose from. The cinnamon roll was delicious! The farm animals are adorable especially the baby ones. I love how you can even get inside their pens to pet them. The corn maze is always a great activity. Had trivia questions this year. Perfect place for a date or hang out!
Went to the petty zoo part of this place and had a good after work stroll with my bestie and her little guy. There is a ton of activities for the kiddos. I had fun playing with the digging toys too. There is an ice cream shop and outdoor seating. Overall would recommend.
Had the most amazing time here last Saturday. I went to breakfast earlier in the day and a couple was talking about how amazing bergey's barnyard was so, naturally, we had to come too. We parked in the main lot as there were still parking spaces available, but saw they also had an overflow lot with a few cars in it. We headed straight to the breadbasket for lunch. I got the ham and apple club and my husband got the roast beef sandwich and we shared an order of the black pepper pasta salad. There was a line for ice cream and a separate line and counter for the deli sandwiches. I appreciated that because there were a ton of people in line for ice cream so it was nice not having to wait behind all of them. My ham and apple club sandwich was amazing btw. It had an onion bacon jam that was so delicious and really just brought the sandwich together. Hubby enjoyed his meal as well. We also bought some dry pasta and other things from the shop. We then headed to the barnyard! It was $7 for each of us so $14 total, which I thought was reasonable. There were so many animals and you could go in each of their pens and play with them. We played with baby kitties, goats, and pigs. They also had chickens, cows, rabbits, and ponies. They also had a handwashing station and some bathrooms, if needed. Everyone was so friendly too. I could see myself coming back here and spending hours and hours. We then finished our trip with ice cream. I got the ice cream for breakfast, which was a maple ice cream with pieces of bacon and waffle cone. I got one scoop in a cup and hubby got a vanilla milkshake. Everything was amazing. I can't wait to come back and do everything all over again.
Cute little stop with a fun petting zoo and an adorable shop. The homemade ice cream is amazing with so many unique flavors, and they also have fresh baked goods and sandwiches. Such a charming and welcoming place to visit!
Bergey's Breadbasket is a must visit if you are in the area. They make the ice cream themselves, and the flavors are seasonal. We all had an ice cream and it was delicious, creamy, not insanely sweet. They also had some unique flavors. I missed the key lime pie but picked up peanut brittle and other locally made goodies. My husband loved the turkey club sandwich. The outdoor seating area is super cute. They also have goats you can feed which my kiddos loved. We didn't get a chance to visit the petting zoo due to time but we will next time.
Bergey's has been on my list for years. I've driven past it a few times when traveling between my hometown (Pungo area) and Chesapeake where a good friend lives when we have girl's days on weekends. I knew it was a farm and I knew they had shakes and ice cream. That's about it. Yesterday, it was so hot, but I was driving around exploring local farmer's markets and decided it would be the day to see what Bergey's was all about. I didn't realize it's also an active farm where they allow you to roam around and interact with the animals. I saw baby pigs and petted them, so cute wagging their little tails! I saw bunnies and the Mayor of Bunny Town. I held a baby bunny. I petted baby goats. I also saw and petted a donkey for the first time and got up close and personal with a cow. The inside of the small shop they have has sandwiches (about 4-5 options like BBQ, ham, chicken salad) and about 8 ice cream flavors. You can get them by the scoop in a bowl or cone, a milkshake, or a sundae. They also have some milk for sale from Homestead Creamery as well as some pot pies that looked yummy, honey, and various other small snacks. I have to admit - I was least impressed with the shop and ice cream choices - no really different ice cream flavors the day I was there (think maple, vanilla, chocolate etc.) and not a huge selection of food items that I felt were made in-house or exclusive to Bergey's. So that was a bit off for me. Still, had a blast with the animals. Really fun. Enjoyed my time here and will come back. read more
Ahh, our visit to Bergey's was so much fun!! I brought my little ones here for a play date with my friend and her kids- it is a perfect place for these kinds of times with friends. Off the top of my head I remember seeing goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, cows, and sheep! There are even more animals, all in their homes around the farm, that you can just freely explore and enjoy with the kids. My sons absolutely loved holding the baby bunnies!! There's also a sandbox with toy trucks in the cows area, which is a fun pit stop for them to play at. A bathroom is located just near the beginning of the farm/barn area and it was very clean (I expected a lot worse considering, you know, farm). Inside the store you'll find the most delicious breads and sweets, too! I got to try their biscuits and chicken salad, both were seriously to die for!! I can't wait to go back and try the ice cream. It all is reasonably priced (1.50$ish organic coffee?!?) and the animal area is by donation. I just love it!! read more
Bergey's Breadbasket & Barnyard (BBB) is a small bakery/sandwich deli/ice cream shop on a family owned, working farm that offers a petting farm. -- The Barnyard -- BBB's petting farm was the highlight that prompted us to head over from VA Beach. BBB offers an enjoyable petting farm with opportunities for children (& adults) to interact with, visit, and pet the animals. Overall the animals appeared well cared for. The visiting areas include clear signage and while worn were well kept. There was very little shade except for near the enclosures for the cows and "kitty city" and inside the barn itself (ponies, bunnies). The early afternoon was sweltering in the August heat. -- The Animals -- BBB's farm animals include goats and kids, cows and calves, piglets, ponies, cats and kittens, bunnies, and more. You can offer feed to the goats from outside the enclosures (which are clearly marked with warnings that the larger ones may headbutt the pen). Or you can go inside the pens for a closer visit of some of the animals like the goats, piglets, and kitties, and there's an area in the barn to sit and hold the bunnies. BBB's website talks about bonding with the animals, and being able to go in many of the enclosures and feed the calves a bottle offered meaningful opportunities for interaction. My favorite was the very friendly brown & white cow, and my toddler's favorite was the piglets, who he joined in their pen and gently pet. -- Visitors & Other To-Dos -- While it wasn't crowded, there were several families visiting at the time of our visit; parents supervised their children while the children were interacting with the animals. We were glad to see guests treating the animals well! There is a sandbox, an area with pedal tractors, and basketball hoops, so there's a lot to keep family members busy. -- Ice Cream & Seating -- We stopped by the market and tried their fresh ice cream--delicious! There isn't room to eat inside, and there are limited chairs on the porch and limited covered outdoor picnic tables, so without many shade options, we didn't stay to try out the sandwiches. The flowers make for a pretty sitting area and despite it being mid-afternoon, there were customers enjoying BBB's fare. -- Prices -- Costs are more than reasonable. Prices (as of 8/14/21): Petting Farm Admission $4. Ages 65 & older are free. (Not posted/guaranteed, but our baby was free.) Add ons: $3/small goat feed cup, $5/bottle for calves, $5/pony ride (45 lb maximum), $0.25/handful of goat feed. Hours: Monday - Saturday 9am - 6pm. (Closed Sundays.) -- Takeaway -- While it is a bit out of our way, we very much enjoyed it and will return, hopefully on a cooler day! read more

I've heard so much about this breadbasket located in Chesapeake and I was able to head out there on an off day. When you walk in you feel like you are going back in time to an old-school sandwich shop! There were so many options but I finally selected the Italian sandwich on dill bread with old-school soda pop. You order in one spot and then pay at a register that's at the front of the restaurant and wait for your name to be called. Once I received my sandwich I sat on their porch areas that had rocking chairs. When I bit into that sandwich I was in sandwich heaven. The sandwich was perfectly made, meaning it had the perfect bread to meat to veggie to Mayo ratio. You could taste the freshness of the dill bread and the quality meat products they are using. Afterward, I ended up purchasing a pack of dill bread and one of their famous apple pies. read more

Came by today because everyone has said their pies are amazing. I got a blueberry one straight from the oven. It was $18.99. I got home and looked at the ingredients and they use a gel as a thickener and you can tell. It's not 100% home made and not that good. It's sickeningly sweet, and the gel congeals into a gross goop. Save your $ and your time. read more

Never heard of this place and have lived in the area all my life. Can't believe how great the icecream was. You get the choice of a cup, cone, or waffle cone. I had one scoop of the Coconut Icecream. It was delicious! It didn't taste like it was made of artificial flavoring and had real chunks of coconut. If you think the food is great, you should check out the free petting farm directly behind it. We saw all the farm animals from baby bunnies, goats, pigs, ponies, and chickens. We also saw a cow and donkey. So much to pet that we were all so excited. My daughters loved the icecream and petting farm! Will definitely come back. read more

If I died and went to heaven, Bergey's pie would be on the menu! We tried the strawberry pie for the first time and the pie was beyond excellent. The strawberries were abundant, fresh, and juicy. The glaze was the perfect balance of thick enough to hold the berries but not gelatinous. The crust was flaky and good. Everything about it was delicious. My father is a pie connoisseur and picky about his pies and said this was the best strawberry pie he ever had. In fact that was the opinion of everyone at dinner. The whipped cream and the ice cream was amazing, tasty, and can absolutely tell it was home made. You know the pies are good when after an hour of being open they are sold out and on a Monday to boot! We did the petting zoo as well which was a great time. We will be back! read more

Wow! This place is a must visit restaurant, ice cream shop, and petting zoo! In the petting zoo, they have ponies, bunnies, goats, and pigs. When you buy tickets you can also ask for a cup of goat food for purchase as well to feed the goats. It's a small cup and I think it was around $3. You're allowed to get into the goat and pig pens and you're allowed to hold the rabbits as well. The restaurant and ice cream shop are simply delicious. You order sandwiches at a stand in front of the sandwich menu and ice cream in front of the icecream stand. There are so many happy, smiling faces working behind the counter. This place is such a gem! My daughter stated that she would not be making anymore sandwiches, because the one she got here is the only sandwich she will ever eat again lol. My husband got the turkey bacon club and said he enjoyed it. You're able to order a half or a whole sandwich and while my family ordered a whole sandwich, I got half a roast beef and half a pork BBQ. The roast beef was spicy and sweet. It was an interesting sandwich and very good. My favorite was the pork BBQ. That was one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've had. I also had a brownie sundae with "icecream for breakfast" flavored icecream. That flavor is my new favorite icecream! It was coffee flavored with chunks of waffle and some other things that I'm unsure of. Idk if they sell pints or not and I really should have checked, because this is one flavor I would want stocked in my freezer. I can't wait to come back soon! read more

THIS FARM HAS THE CUTEST ANIMALS!!! My friends from work told me about this place and oh man my only regret was not going sooner. My boyfriend, his son, and I had a blast! We didn't eat anything there but the pies looked amazing! We'll definitely be back! read more
We went for the fall activities. We had a blast. They now charge a fee for the petting area which I feel is fair, they have lots of animals to feed and care for. I like that there is not a limit on the time you can spend visiting their establishment. There is plenty of extra parking in the back. All of the animals appear well cared for. Our favorite are the goats, there always seems to be baby animals when we visit. They had baby goats, kittens and piglets this time. You can sit in the pens and pet them, my toddler especially loves holding and rocking the goats and kittens to sleep. The corn maze was fun as well as the wagon ride, they also have a toddler/child corn maze with a slide. They have the best ice cream available in the small restaurant, if you go early enough they have mostly everything available on the menu. I wouldn't say this is a toddler friendly menu unless your child likes sandwiches and chips which mine doesn't. As far as social distancing goes, there are signs reminding people to stay 6 feet apart, there is an outside sink with plenty of soap for hand washing as well as one bathroom. They have hand sanitizer available as well. We went on a weekend, the amount of people inside the restaurant and outside all through out the farm made it impossible to social distance. I was shocked to see such a huge crowd of people, most not wearing masks. There does not appear to be a limit on the amount of people visiting. For that reason, I won't be back until the fall festivities are over. read more

We were visiting from out of town and stopped on a Saturday afternoon just for fun. We ordered sandwiches and ice cream. I got pumpkin ice cream--something I've never had before. It was delicious. Tasted just like pumpkin pie. Hubs got a flight of Octoberfest ice cream and really enjoyed it. Our sandwiches were just average--too much bread. Hubs got a roast beef and I got a turkey club. I was also disappointed that they were given to us in single use plastic containers. I assumed they would be a little more environmentally friendly but no. This is really the main reason for taking one star away. There are tables and places to sit outside--none inside. There were a lot of people with kids there so really not many places to sit so we sat on the car. The ice cream was good but I don't think we would come back. read more
Visited Bergey's with my two daughters and granddaughter. We enjoyed walking around and visiting the animals in the petting zoo. We finished up our visit with t shirts, ice cream and took home some delicious strawberry jam. This was a wonderful and inexpensive way to spend a couple hours enjoying the farm. read more
Totally worth the trek out to the countryside of Chesapeake to spend some time on this cute little farm. We dragged our 15 year old son with us and I dare say he enjoyed himself!! We bought the $10/pp ticket which included the corn maze, hay ride and corn shooter. The corn maze was great, not too big so you won't get lost for hours. Just right! The hay ride was nice and gives an opportunity to relax and take in the view of surrounding landscape. The corn shooter was fun and unique. You can buy extra chances of shooting the corn for $1. The animals are all adorable. Pigs, goats, cows, ponies, donkey, etc. If you have small children they will love this place as there is lots for them to do and explore. They can climb on have, pet the animals, ride a pony, ride mini tractors, see the sunflowers, and more. We ended with getting a sandwich is the little cafe/shop. Prices were really good and the food was on point. I wish we were hungry enough to get some ice cream because it looked delicious.....next time! read more

The first time drivin by to go fishin with the family, the wife spots and next thing you know, were eatin icecream and sandwhiches, and then puttin a quarter in for feeder for the goats and llamas. This place has become a tradition for me and family. Every saturday we look forward to comin here and enjoying my afternoon. There are very few places i would recommend anyone to go to, but this place hits the spot everytime. 10/10. read more

I love the fall event. The corn maze, hayride, seeing the animals and the best part, the treats at the end. We have been going to Bergey's for years for the fall event. We love the staff, the atmosphere and just everything about it. We always look forward to getting the ice cream and the family chicken salad meal. I like getting the pumpkin ice cream in a cup. My family gets other kind of ice cream in a waffle cone. We are always pleased with our choices. Now for the chicken salad...it comes with the bread. It is so good. They have other options but this is what we get each time. read more

Went to this place on my birthday and had a lot of fun! I'm a big animal lover so this was a huge deal. They had a lot of different animals to pet and hold. ONE MAIN POINT of improvement though (why I took of one start for now)- I think there should be staff members in the barns or walking around more to assist with how to approach animals/how to hold them properly. I witnessed a lot of rowdy kids and there was a part with baby bunnies that you could hold. It just made made me worried because I didn't want any of the animals to be handled incorrectly! So I feel as if a staff presence in these areas would make a big difference. I tried some of their baked goods from their store and it was very good. read more

This is one of the neater things to do in Chesapeake, especially with children. So Bergey's when I was a kid was actually a dairy farm and they delivered all of our milk to our home. Visiting even then was cool. Now it's more of a farm/deli/ice cream shop/gift store. But it's still fun and still holds that same charm. The ice cream shop, deli, and gift store are all in one. There's a few tables in there for guests, and there's seating outdoors. The ice cream is amazing. You can get a variety of flavors in a pretty decent selection of ways. Don't forget the sprinkles for nostalgia! They sell a few snack and lunch items. They have homemade pies, cheeses, etc for sale. And a good amount of gift items with a down home farm'y feel. The farm itself is a petting farm. You can go through and interact with the animals. It's a favorite to go in the spring so you can love on all the babies. The petting area is free, but they except donations throughout at donation boxes. I always feel that it's more polite to always buy something when visiting as well, so we always do ice cream before leaving. Prices are very decent and far. It's farm, so it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. And it's not suppose to. If you have little ones, I urge you to go! Enjoy it. It's a great experience. And you'll definitely want to go back! read more

It's was a beautiful day for a trip to Bergey's. We started with homemade chocolate ice cream as our appetizer:) Had my favorite chicken salad sandwich on soft bread with lettuce, onion, and tomato. We also tried their Italian and because they ran out of their regular bread, it's came on dill herb bread!!! Then had a bite of fluffy cinnamon rolls. It's was yummy. Thank you for another great lunch :) Tip: if you're looking for last minute Christmas goodies for your holiday table, they have extra goodies for walk ins!!! read more

A terrific second visit and so happy I was in the area. The key is "in the area" because few are. It is very rural area so many will need to make a special trip or be in the area. Today I pulled the trigger on driving an additional 6.5 mile to enjoy them again. The last time at Bergey's was during the height of the Fall season with pumpkins for sale and their petting zoo in operation. It's a much busier time than my visit today which per an employee is the slowest time of the year. Signage just off the road is large enough where you wont miss the turn off. Parking was plentiful today in their gravel lot. No debris in sight as I exited my car. The country store is very quaint looking with a wooden porch and chairs. There are out building behind. I am reviewing the store only. The first time I got a hot breakfast which was okay. The banana pie was super yum and Larry coffee strong. I also sampled the oreo ice-cream which was incredible. Today it was their pecan cinnamon rolls which were out of this world delicious. A nice touch is if they would have heated it up, or at least offered. The staff was friendly and I met the owner and his brother who was visiting from Lancaster PA. The store itself is not big, but they do sell food items that are unique from either local to our area, or small business from other areas of the state. In some cases surrounding state such as their coffee which comes from Raleigh, NC. Their milk is from Western VA. So what do they make in house you make ask, well a lot. Their bread, pies, cakes and famous ice-cream. This most certainly is a big reason they have a strong local following. I found the prices to be fair. Several customers during today's breakfast were called by first name. If your looking for the restrooms you will not find them in the store. They are in the rear with access outside. I found them spacious with proper supplies and everything functioned. I cannot easily be a regular, they are just too far...like over an hour far. But I would like to return with family in toe to try their ice-cream which they are best known for outside the bread. These type of local businesses cannot easily be found anymore, especially in our developed area of Virginia Beach. There is just something refreshing knowing the money you spend will go right back to the the pockets of our local economy. Also the fact that if you have a compliment, complaint, or suggestion you can discuss with the owner who is on the premises. I may have not been able to bring them to a full 5, but I highly recommend. read more
I don't know why there aren't more reviews and why I haven't left one til now but I will state this loudly: GO! STOP procrastinating and get your crew in gear and hit it! If you have a sweet tooth, their cheese Danishes are the creamiest ever. If you want fresh bread they're rocking it. The rolls they serve with the BBQ are the best I've ever had (in America. Focaccia in Italy is world's best) and their cheese biscuits are good heated up with an additional slice of cheddar in the middle. The cream pies? Pricey and worth EVERY cent!! For me, their piece de resistance though is the chicken pot pie. Chunks of breast meat, fresh crunchy veggies, creamy gravy and the crispiest pastry this side of France. I haven't had everything but I'm making my way through the menu. The BBQ wasn't for me though. I like mine more VA style than NC and theirs was too dry for me. My husband LOVED it and the little kick was a bonus to him. A tip: if you're picking up a dinner on the way home from work, order ahead so they can save you some. You'll thank me for this later. read more

I honestly had SOO much fun! We took my boyfriend's son (he's 4!) here as something to do, I might have had a better time then him!!! The ice cream and food was PHENOMAL as well! This place was super interactive and we had a great time! read more
