This coffee shop is SUPER popular! It came recommended and this was seen by the line of people out the door. It's a small place, so it's pretty crowded, maybe a little too crowded. There's also only one entrance/exit, which makes going in and out awkward. We waited in line to order for about 15 minutes, but the cashier was kind and efficient. If you don't mind a lot of people standing close to you, it's great to watch the baristas make the coffee drinks, such as tamping grounds, pulling espresso shots, and decorating lattes with milk art. They were working pretty fast, despite the amount of orders. We waited for our drinks for about 15 minutes, which wasn't too bad considering how busy it was. We ordered the berry croissant danishes (see picture) and the cinnamon rolls. They are beautiful! These were packaged in pastry bags and/or boxes and given to us right away. They had a great variety of pastries, so it was hard to choose! It's good to arrive early, since it appeared they were running low on pastries in the pastry case around 10:30 am. The cinnamon roll is delicious! The flavor of cinnamon and sugar is balanced, the pastry itself was perfectly cooked, and the cream cheese icing was the perfect touch. The berry (ricotta?) danish was tasty too, the berries were fresh and the croissant dough was flaky. For coffee, we ordered hot lattes and I ordered the iced cookie butter latte. The hot cups are well insulated and don't require a sleeve. The lattes are a bit on the pricier side compared to other coffee shop lattes. The hot lattes had beautiful art on top, which I appreciate and thought was a nice touch for to-go drinks. Didn't want to believe the negative reviews but it's true-- this place isn't worth a stop. Girl working the counter did not greet us or acknowledge us when we arrived. All the girls behind the bar were just chatting amongst themselves & too busy doing so to care we were there. When we did finally get service, I complimented the barista's hairclips and I got a sideways "thanks...." Back. So awkward. I asked to have micro greens added to my avocado toast, she said they were already included. Got my toast.... no microgreens Avo toast was super average, burnt edges & a soggy middle. This is one of my favorite cafes in Old Town Scottsdale. Seating is limited and mostly outdoors, and lines can get long on the weekends, but the food and drinks are worth it! The baristas behind the counter will help you decide what to order if it's your first time. The avocado toast is well-seasoned and has a bit of spice to it from the chili flakes, so ask for no chili flakes if you're spice-intolerant. You will be at the register standing right in front of them and they won't even acknowledge you and just continue doing what they're doing. To top it off the barista got my order wrong when I specifically asked her if she got two coffees. She said yes but when it came out, it was one coffee and it was wrong. I was really excited to try out this coffee shop after I saw the menu because I love a cardamom latte. I ordered an iced rose cardamom latte and it was underwhelming. There was no rose or cardamom flavor, it just tasted like an iced coffee. I also tried the avocado toast. Felt overpriced for one slice with a large amount of oil drizzled on top. They were out of orange juice and one of the iced teas with was surprising as it was still pretty early in the day (8/9 am??) Overall nothing impressive or memorable. read more

We came here Sunday morning before 10 am for some breakfast. We ordered a coffee, matcha, breakfast sandwich and burrito. The coffee was delicious (says my picky husband) and the matcha was refreshing - not too sweet (I dislike the matchas with a bunch of sweeteners - takes away from the taste). The sandwich was well executed - brioche bread was tasty too. The breakfast burrito was very tasty and the salsa was Smokey. The distribution of ingredients was equitable - no need to turn the burrito to equalize your bites. Staff was friendly and they share a bathroom with a Pilates studio nearby. This aesthetically pleasing coffee shop has a limited menu and they execute every item to perfection. Obsessed may be an understatement... We came here TWICE in our 3 day trip for Spring Training. It was a nice morning walk from our hotel and luckily we were able to find seating because it was a very popular spot! So many items to choose from in our first visit -- ended up with the raspberry poptart, cinnamon roll, and breakfast burrito to share with a cold brew and cardamom rose latte. Second trip we came after having coffee already because we wanted to try more pastry options -- this time the strawberry poptart and chocolate chip walnut cookie and the strawberry matcha (special). Staff were super friendly and the place was clean. I really like that they use the inKind app which gives a discount for the first visit ($5 off $15) and 20% rewards. My matcha was so yummy, I got a blueberry matcha! but I did notice when I was there it was very very hot. I looked at the baristas and they all looked really distressed also because there dealing with a ton of orders I genuinely felt bad. I had asked them why is it so hot in here and they said they only had that 1 little ac. And there was a lot of people in the coffee shop. The vibe of the place is pretty chaotic. The whole time I was there it was crammed (on a weekday morning) with people and very loud. We couldn't even hear them call our name for our order so it just sat there for 10 minutes before we got up to check the counter. Definitely not a place to enjoy a relaxing morning. I did enjoy the food. The breakfast burrito and avocado toast were done well and had good seasoning. I know the pastries come from a nearby bakery, but worth saying they were very good. Today we ordered the burrito, the breakfast sandwich with egg over hard, sub bacon, iced vanilla latte with almond milk and an iced matcha with honey and almond milk. The burrito came out perfect, slightly crisp tortilla, crispy bacon, soft potatoes with a slight crisp to the exterior, cheese and avocado layered expertly. The dipping sauce was excellent, not too spicy yet full of flavor. The breakfast sandwich was also expertly crafted, soft bread with the perfect amount of toasted-ness and the rest of the ingredients were very fresh and put together with care. Both drinks were of high quality, freshly prepared and perfectly proportioned. All items came out quickly despite a long line, the staff were friendly and attentive. What a great way to start your Saturday morning. I came 10 after 8 when they open and there were only two people in line but all the tables were full. Much better than last Sundays preopening line. Fast and friendly service. I always get the avocado toast with a fried egg hold the aioli which is a little too strong for my taste. Excellent honey lavender lattes good balance of coffee and milk if you get them for here in their glass mugs. The rose cardamon latte is too floral for me. PLEASE READ STAFF: They have some really good looking pastries that they have out on display but I refuse to purchase them because almost every single time I am in line it's so disgusting to see that they use NO COVER on them and I see FLIES or flying INSECTS land on the croissants, cookies, and cheese danishes!! Even though this is a coffee shop, their star items for me is their breakfast. I always find myself waking up on the weekends wanting their avocado toast, breakfast sandwich, or burrito. My personal preference for their avocado toast is to add crumbled bacon/fried egg, and remove the oil and aioli. I prefer my foods lighter/less rich and feel that the bacon and egg already provide enough oil. I would recommend this combo! Thankfully the burrito and the coffee made up for the very long wait, the baristas lacking any spatial awareness, sense of urgency. I waited 15-20 minutes to get to the cash register and upon getting to my turn they instead let the door dasher cut in front of me to pay for their order which ended up being canceled, unfortunate when I have been waiting in line to just to let someone be prioritized over me who did not wait in line. I ended up having to ask is there an order there for my name? There wasn't. Which then they made it on the spot and it took less than one minute. The barista instead of focusing on her job kept flirting and talking to the male customer after me, why do I have to wait 30+ minutes for a coffee, even my burrito came out way before then. Berdenas used to be my go to in the old town area. However, it had really gone downhill based on my recent visits. The last two times my lattes have tasted like straight milk with zero espresso flavor. This is incredibly frustrating given the $8 price after tax and tip, I can buy a gallon of milk for half that price which is what I'm now receiving. Self absorbed staff more interested in talking to each other than making the drinks.....10 minutes between my cap and the cortado for my partner is way to long.
