Checked this spot out for brunch on Sunday. Wanted to go somewhere that had cocktails in addition to standard brunch mimosas. On this occasion, we placed ourself on the waitlist through the Yelp app. We started off as 5th in line and then by the time we arrived we were number 1. We ended up parking at the garage across the street so it worked out perfectly. For brunch, I ended up getting the steak breakfast sandwich. That was really delicious. It came with a chimichurri sauce. I would say the only thing is that my bread was a little soggy cause they overdid the sauce so in hindsight, I probably would ask that they either take some of the moisture out of the steak and eggs or maybe just ask for my sauce on the side since the bread did get a little soggy. On reheating the second half in the air fryer I was able to get my bread more crispy. My husband got the chicken and waffles and he enjoyed that he liked that the chicken was breast. The only thing he would suggest is that if you could add an extra piece of chicken that would've been more hardy as he did finish the whole meal. We also tried pecan roll and that was pretty tasty. They ended up heating that up for us. For drinks, my husband got the espresso martinis sub with bourbon and he enjoyed that. I got a blueberry lemon martini (tart) and that was tasty. I also was able to try the banana chai latte iced to go and that was really refreshing. I am on the fence as to if I would return. I will say that the staff was really nice and even though they were mostly pretty young, they were receptive. However, when I got home, I noticed that that same day this establishment was on the dirty dining list. So that could be why the staff was overly nice that day. However, our experience was fine and the three things that were on the dirty dining list weren't too horrible. But I really wish I would've known that before eating there that day. It would seem like if you are put on the dirty dining list that you're rating if you got cited would be outside on the restaurant that day, but I didn't see anything indicating that. So that was a bummer but we actually really did enjoy our dining experience and the restaurant itself was really open and bright. read more

We took a break from shopping at Fashion Square to stop into Prep and Pastry for a casual Sunday lunch. We were expecting more of a cafe vibe but were pleasantly surprised at this cute brunch type spot. It was decently busy, but we were seated right away. The staff were attentive and friendly and the service was quick after ordering. I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup, which came out perfectly! I could tell the ingredients were fresh all around. I really liked the pesto on the sandwich, it pulled everything together and added so much flavor. The soup was also the perfect pair with the grilled cheese, and I'm assuming it was homemade because it tasted so fresh and flavorful! Everything coming out of the kitchen looked really good, so there were definitely a few other things I'd want to try next time. Overall, this was such a cute spot to stop for lunch while shopping. Went to Prep & Pastry on a Sunday morning after a hike, arriving around 9am. It is a large, bright restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating, located in Scottsdale and the edge of Phoenix, near the mall. The area is filled with restaurants ranging from casual spots to more upscale options. I started with the lavender matcha latte, which had just a touch of sweetness and was comforting. For my entrée, I ordered the Cast Iron Duck Confit ($19). I was deciding between a couple of dishes, and our waitress recommended this one, which was an excellent suggestion. The dish featured braised duck, shallots, spinach, Cabernet-braised cherries, cherry goat cheese mousse, potatoes, and two eggs over easy. The portion was generous, hearty, and packed with flavor. The duck was tender, moist, and cooked perfectly. The Cabernet-braised cherries and cherry goat cheese mousse were unique additions that gave the dish a creative twist. There were plenty of potatoes, and I ended up ordering a side of chipotle aioli, which paired really well with them. I have really enjoyed the chipotle sauces I have tried around Phoenix, they seem much more flavorful and spicier than many of the versions I've had on the East Coast. Overall, this was an excellent brunch in a clean, open, and inviting space. Service was friendly and attentive, and our food arrived quickly despite it being a busy Sunday morning. They also have an attached café and bakery with an impressive display of pastries, although we did not have room to try any this visit. I would definitely recommend Prep & Pastry and look forward to returning on a future trip. As I wasn't looking for a meal, I had a white chocolate mocha latte and a sticky pecan cinnamon roll that caught my eye in the pastry display. The white chocolate mocha latte (4.5/5) was of high quality and tasted great without much bitterness, satisfying my caffeine fix. The sticky pecan cinnamon roll (5/5) was a high quality cinnamon roll with just the right amount of sweetness, accented just a little bit by the pecans for a wonderfully delicious pastry experience. Service was quick and friendly from the male barista there. While I can't speak to the dine-in food experience, I would recommend Prep and Pastry for decent pastries and caffeinated beverages in Scottsdale. read more

This is our first time at this location. We had enjoyed the Tucson location years ago. Overall it was ok. The poblano Benedict lacked flavor even though there were poblano peppers in it. This place is light and bright so you can see all the dirt on the floors and the baseboards. I feel like they may need a deep cleaning. The highlight are their pastries. My new favorite thing is being able to walk to new restaurants to try. Prep had been in my list for a while. The wait was minimal and a bit noisy. My girlfriend and I shared an egg sausage and cheese Sammie on a croissant and the Smokes Salmon Hash bowl. The hash was really good with the house horseradish (very little kick but good flavor) veggies potatoes and eggs. Very little kick but good flavor. The roasted potatoes were huge and seasoned really good. The croissant to me wasn't that soft, the only downside. For drinks I got a black coffee and house Bloody Mary with a side car of the house beer I think the coffee stout, nice touch! I got the Simple Breakfast, but the portion of scrambled eggs looked smaller than usual. They were still running their winter drinks menu, so I got the Cranberry Matcha. I expected a garnish or something to make it look festive, but it didn't come with anything. I didn't really taste cranberry in it either. We were hoping they'd have their delicious pop tarts, but sadly didn't see any at the pastry counter. Our waiter was attentive initially. The indoor seating area is full service. Our server was friendly and was prompt with our orders and checking up on us, but kind of disappeared towards the end when I wanted to order some of the pastries to go - maybe he was on break? I ordered the Black Cherry Matcha which was pretty good, but I couldn't really distinguish any black cherry flavor. We also shared the Southwest Croissant Sammie and Green Chili French Toast. I know...green chili french toast sounds weird, and I was about to pass on it, but we decided to order it anyway and I'm so glad we did because it was soooo good! It was made with a green chili bread and had two eggs on top, and the combo of sweet and savory was delish - kind of reminds me of jalapeño corn bread! The croissant Sammie was bigger than I expected and was great too. I loved the potatoes that came with it. The pastries I bought were so good too! Located right across the street from Olive & Ivy, I suggested this place this past week to my mom and my sister for late brunch, and the three of us wound up there around 1pm on a Monday. My mom got her go to: biscuits and gravy, and it was served piping hot in a big boat of a bowl. She also got a mimosa that she was very pleased with. I got a honey lavender matcha as my drink, which was very creamy and tasty. I got the steak and egg sandwich, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The bread was nice and crunchy and the steak wasn't chewy in the slightest, it all melted in my mouth. My sister got the salmon Benedict, which she wanted over easy but came out a little over hard. That didn't matter much, she still put it down. She got a raspberry cream latte, that was better than the matcha that I got. The chandelier on the ceiling was notably huge and gave this place some beautiful decoration. The pastries all looked super yummy, and our guy Jordan blessed us with a few of them, they were so yummy. Overall, our experience in general here was super positive and I'm glad we found a new neighborhood brunch spot, it may just be one of the best options in the area. My friend had The Cure -- a brioche french toast with berries and a lemon glaze. That was also the french toast I selected. Sometimes french toast or waffles can feel very heavy and dense. Prep & Pastry's version was light and very enjoyable without being overly filling. The omelet was also nicely prepared with carmelized onion, mushroom and muenster. It supposedly had turkey sausage, too, but I don't recall seeing or tasting it. All in all, this is a very good brunch option in a very nice area with lots of other dining choices.
