I have lived in the Clear Lake area for 36 years and have been bringing my cars to Benson's just about the same amount of time. I have ALWAYS been so impressed with the knowledge and skill of every technician working on my car. My experience has been that Benson's identifies and fixes an issue the first time around. This place is an anomaly. Honest mechanics?! Say what?! Yes, it is true. My friend brought her (Yes, a female bringing a car alone to a repair shop. Insert Jaws music here.) car here after we both thought the starter may be failing. As it turned out it was simply a loose connection that required no repair. I have been using this business for 34 years. They always take care of my business at a reasonable price. Trust me, getting it done correctly the first time is really important to me. My time is worth money. Most other shops around here require 2 or 3 return trips to fix things. I am happy to pay for the job once and get it done correctly at Benson's. Now that Tyson is running it, it is like nothing changed from the first day I started going there. One time I brought my 2008 Hyundai to them because my front end was making noise. Ok, so I was told about this place by a co-worker. I had a very harsh and audible sound from the driver side front tire with every left turn that was over uneven pavement. I self-diagnosed the problem and replaced a substantial amount of parts only to find that none of them cured the problem in my Avalanche. Took it to Bensons, they called me the next day, said the truck is ready. A bolt had loosened up on the control arm. How much do I owe you ? We can't charge you to tighten a bolt. I had a great experience, reasonably priced, and its just nice, they know what their doing. Bob just knew his stuff even via phone. Very knowledgable. I have a wheelchair van, and conveniences such as Uber are simply not available to me. Being fortunate enough to work, imagine my horror, when 6 am van doesn't start. My husband has used Benson's for years. When we got married they took care of both of our vehicles. They service the vehicles for US, not for their pocketbook and it shows! They won't do a job if it doesn't need it, they will fix anything that wasn't done correctly the first time (they are human!) and they explain to you what it needs and give you the choice before they go ahead and do the work. Friendly and professional staff, they were booked for a few days out but I was not in a hurry, so scheduling an appointment was relatively easy. While waiting for the alignment service to be performed (took them slightly over an hour), I witnessed few other costumers interacting with staff (either waiting or picking up their cars, calling it with questions and estimate request) and Bob and Tyson were very polite, patient and informative, trying to meet everyone's needs. Will definitely go back if necessary and if the fix within their area of expertise (sounded like everything related to tires, wheels, drivetrain etc for domestic and Japanese cars, relatively limited scope for luxury German makes). read more

We've been taking our two vehicles to Benson's for the last six years or so, on recommendations from my brother who took his two vehicles there. I'll cut to the chase - I'll continue to drive out of my way to use this shop for all car repairs. Time and time again they've done right by us, especially this past Christmas weekend. Two days before, I took my 2005 Saturn VUE with over 275,000 miles in for several maintenance items. It was losing fuel pressure and needed a new fuel pump, so they installed that. I picked the car up Friday afternoon, ran several errands on Saturday (which was Christmas Eve), and had a late dinner at midnight. Coming home from that, in my driveway, the car sputtered, shook, and stopped. It would not start back up. I had a couple days to ponder this as Benson's was closed for Christmas, and the symptom was indeed a failed fuel pump (or the fuel pump not getting power). I was certain they would cover the pump under warranty as it had only been a couple of days, but to get it towed back to the shop? We live about 15 miles away and my insurance would only cover a tow to the "nearest" shop. Indeed, when I called them Tuesday morning he didn't hesitate - immediately gave me the number of a tow truck that would bill them, it got picked up that day and we just got a call that the fuel pump was bad, they replaced it, and she's all ready to go. No charge for anything. Every time they give me estimates on work, it's less than the national average. They've never "padded" an estimate with unnecessary work, nothing like that. Straight up folks running a great business. In the area there is none better. read more

I have lived in this area all my life and been by here hundreds of times but have never used them for service before. That will change in the future. Went in to have the front end checked and aligned and showed up at my scheduled time. They were very nice and prompt and got my car in to check it. The service technician checked it and told me I was within specs and didn't need to do anything. I was quoted $80 for the alignment but when I went to pay the owner said since they didn't change anything the charge would be $25. Wow, talk about honesty and integrity ! After taking my car to two other shops to get estimates on repairing my A/C, my father recommended I take it to Benson's. The other two shops wanted over $1,000 to replace the compressor. The mechanic at Benson's was able to fix the A/C by replacing one part of the compressor for under $300!! They are honest--- unfortunately that is hard to find these days. I have heard good things about this please for years and recently brought my car in for service. I have had a severe tire wear problems and asked them to check the suspension on my car. When I initially scheduled appointment the person who answered the phone was very helpful and knowledgeable. I left the car there and they did a thorough inspection and alignment which took about an hour and a half. They could not find any significant problems and was amazed when they told me there was "no charge". They explained the alignment printout and discussed my problem in detail.
