If you're looking for body repairs at an affordable price, Tom's is where it's at. I can't tell you guys how refreshing and amazing it's been working together with them. Kathy, especially, is an amazing individual. Throughout my time interacting with the shop, it felt like she was like an older sister to me. My luck has been just utterly terrible this year. I've tallied maybe 4 accidents so far. One, thankfully just a (very, VERY hard) love tap into my rear bumper from some dude in a smaller truck trying to cut in line at the 610E south loop to I-45 ramp (if you know, you know). Next couple months, same thing only this time I was stopped at a red light at a cross intersection, and some crazy lady just straight on collided into my rear, probably on her phone. Sometime after that, there was a car accident just ahead of me and I ran over some debris and destroyed my back left rear rim and tire. Last but not least, I was heading home, waiting at a stop light at a large cross intersection, and some random car turning left side swiped me. Now I promise I'm not stealing any credit card info off the net, but karma seems to have it out for me T.T Anyway, I brought my car in to Honda's recommended body shop in League City to fix a dent over my left rear tire from a pole I struck early on in owning the car and the (rear) fender bender the two folks gave me and the asking price was about 6k for both (even without using insurance). I don't know about you, but 2 relatively small dents are NOT worth 1/5th the price of a brand new mid-tier car. Insane. Couldn't run away faster. I decided to give Tom's a shot. Considering their Google reviews were just stellar--their Yelp reviews, now that I see them, are kinda "just ok", but I swear to you, they are underrated. I walked into a busy counter; admittingly it's not the most glamorous of places, but access points to the garages makes for an efficient, practical space. There's several chairs for customers who are awaiting services. Point of the matter is, considering how busy these guys are, they should be receiving more good reviews. People are obviously coming back to them for all sorts of jobs, and 1-star reviews from seemingly "random accounts" are a bit suspect. Kathy was keeping her cool and flying in and out of the shop. We finally got to introduce each other and I walked her to my car to show her the dents. I was expecting a price tag around half of what competitors asked for. Kathy sighed, telling me that the repair cost was going to be a little high considering how much damage was done, "don't freak out... but the cost is going to be somewhere around $700 [for this big @ss dent that you made which any other shop would easily charge you 3-4k."] W-what!? All in all, the cost of what I would pay is 1/4th...no, 1/5th of what I would pay elsewhere! Now is it an OEM part? No, of course not. Could you get a new quarter panel ordered? Sure, if you want to spend that kind of money. Can anybody tell that I've had a dent before? I don't think so. Tom and his crew is are absolute BEASTS at using bondo to repair dents; his work was nothing short of masterful. He spends A LOT of time making it perfect again with his own bare hands, so if you're looking to take your date out in that car in 6 hours, think again; expect something more like 6 days. Kathy was very upfront with me about how long it would take and walked me through the process as to why it would take that amount of time. Sometimes things need to dry for an entire day, so plan your repair around a time you're flying out of town. For me, I decided to get married and took a couple weeks off to make sure I wouldn't go insane from all the stress. To sum it up, both repairs were flawless. My most recent issue that happened 4 days ago with a side swipe that crossed 3 of my panels on my driver's side was also buffed out by Tom's team probono as a post-wedding gift... like I said, FAMILY. I can't vouche for their machinery (yet), but their body shop is top notch. Like I said, if you're looking for a group that treats you like kin, you'll find such a thing at Tom's. read more

They were just opening, and we dropped our vehicle off in the morning to get inspected, they said it will be ready in a couple of hours. These guys take a while to fix your car. Make sure you have time and patience before you leave your car. In addition, they'll put USED parts on your car and label them as new on your invoice. They DON'T TELL YOU UPFRONT you might/WILL get a USED PART IN YOUR CAR. Make sure you ask BEFORE you fix, or agree to repairs if you are getting a USED PART!! read more

Absolute RIP OFF!!!! My family have been taking our car to Tom's for decades but ever since his brother in law took over they rip off customers. They take your vehicle knowing they don't have the time to look into the issue properly. And if it's not worth fixing compared to other vehicles, they charge a $75 diagnostic fee and send you on your way. She said she's been coming here for years and it's A+ service. I went in after years of neglect and told them I needed some diagnostics run, probably a tune up, new engine, who knows. I don't claim to know anything about cars and most places like to scare me and say I need thousands of dollars worth of repairs. After a brief wait while they drove my car around the lot and changed the oil, they tell me I don't need a tune up just yet, my cat converter can wait until my inspection is out, and there's nothing wrong with my engine but I might need new tires (which they don't sell). It's so hard for me to find mechanics that don't try to take advantage of my ignorance and sell me gallons of blinker fluid and replace my unicorn samoflanges. I was so grateful that they actually talked me OUT OF getting more work done, and the oil change was so cheap that I went out the next week for new tires and brought my car back for an alignment. They will work around your schedule, they're quick and friendly. The service is unmatched. They can service ANYTHING on your vehicle and the prices are incredibly low. Been meaning to write this, went in on a Saturday around noon. Pulled in because I saw a nail on a tire and had my whole family. Went inside to find an Asian lady with a very short haircut inform me her workers were on lunch. Recommended me to Velas, right down the road, to which I informed her was closed, it was my first choice. I got back in my car and decided to just walk around the left off the office and saw 3 men working. I asked one of them if they can look at my tire and see if they can plug it or if I would have to buy a new one. He immediately said yes he could. Helped me out, plugged it, great job. I asked who to pay, he told me to get with the lady I first met. Now, mind you, I could the job myself but had somewhere to be and couldn't go back home where I have everything to plug it myself so I know how cheap they plugs are. Also, Velas charges $5. And I'll tip the guy who plugs it. I walked in with a $20 bill. Asked the lady how much for the plug. She looks at my 20 and with no hesitation said "twenty dollars". Didn't offer to give me a receipt. I couldn't tip the worker unfortunately since this was all I had in cash. I didn't argue with her because why argue with a money hungry fool. Very impressed with the speed and quality of their work. Looks just like new! Brought the car in on Saturday afternoon, was able to pick it up on Friday before noon. When I was quoted at other places, it was going to take at least 10 days. Their service was also cheaper than those other places I went. They even gave a free alignment and a $50 discount because we paid with cash. Tom was really friendly and explained everything very well. The lady at the front was more so as she was mainly the one to take care of us. She stuck with us from the moment we came in to the moment we drove off the lot. came in to ask for a transmission flush they said it would take 2 hours. dropped it off when the shop opened car wasn't touched by the time shop closed for the day. bring it back the next day they said they would start working on it in a hour. pass by 4 hours later car still hasn't moved. i come in and ask for my keys back and Andy gives me a smart ass attitude for complaining about a 2 hour service taking 2 days. My car air conditioning went out for a week so I talked to some friends and I was referred to this shop. As a result, I went to this shop knowing that I would be in a good hand of the mechanic. A diagnostic result came out that I needed AC (high side) hose. I approved the job and picked up my car a day later. They charged me nearly $300 and I asked why? $75 labor work plus little over $200 in part. After picking my car, I did a price check from a car dealer to see how much my part actually cost, OEM costs under $90 and after market is about $50 but I paid over $200, MAN, I got ripped off! The worst part was they replaced an after market part and claimed it was OEM. PROs: they are OK fixing the problem. CONs; (Greedy) maximizing a profit by charging extra for parts. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Tom's Auto. I have been going to him for many years. Being a single woman, it's extremely difficult to find an honest mechanic. Tom has always been upfront and honest with me. He has done everything from changing oil to putting a new engine in my daughter's Jeep after Harvey. His wife is super sweet too. Although I have moved from the area, I will never use another mechanic even if I have to have one of our vehicles towed to him. He just replaced a window and ball joints on my daughter's Jeep today. I have been satisfied with Tom's for other work in the past, except for how long it always takes to get my car back. He always takes every car that comes in but does not give any reasonable expectation of service... Unless you are Vietnamese. I sat in the waiting room for an hour for a simple dash light read/diagnostic. The whole time, my car was never moved but three other customers walked in, described their issues and their cars were taken in straight away. The difference, they were all Vietnamese and I am not. Even when asking for my keys back to go elsewhere, I was responded to with rudeness. Tom's wife/receptionist us the worst! Tom's has been doing routine maintenance on our cars for over 10 years . Friday before Memorial Day I finally had a real problem; a breakdown out of town(South Houston). A call to Tom's and Kathy had a towing service call me within minutes. The truck (Doug) was there in short order and within an hour both car and I were back at Tom's. Being the holiday weekend Kathy said they couldn't get to it before Tuesday. Tuesday morning Tom called to say it was the fuel pump and quoted a price. I got ripped off and do not even want to take it back for them to fix they're mistakes! What started out as 2 weeks repair job turned into 3 months and 8,000 worth of body work. when I received my car there were parts zip tied and glue on instead repairing it like he was supposed to for 8000 dollars. he ghetto rigged multiple things and and didn't fix them properly just made them look fixed one piece literally flew off on freeway!! that's when I discovered he tried to glue it back on instead replacing the clips! This dude doesn't deserve the business he gets strait rip off, and this wasn't the first time he messed up a repair for me. I now pay a little extra and take my car to Beamer auto repair way more reliable read more

Found Tom's back in 2001 when I had to have some brake work done. Needed front brakes and emergency brake done. First two places wanted $400 just for the emergency brake. Tom did the whole job, and did it well, for around $250. I've never been pressured into any extra or unnecessary repairs. I always ask for a quote up front before any major work and they have always been close to the estimated price. In a couple of cases where the cost was higher than they thought it might be, they have called me for approval before beginning any work. If you need your car back in a hurry and you let them know up front they can usually have it back by the next day, sometimes even the same day if you get there when they open. The only negative experience I had was when I had to take a car in around Christmas one year and Tom was on vacation. The work was not done right and the mechanic who did it was argumentative when I brought it to his attention. I spoke to Tom personally after he got back and he took care of the problem himself with no charge. Turned a negative into a positive. read more

Took my car to get wheel bearings replaced, and was done at a fair price, Tom and the lady were very nice and professional. Took my car back for another issue and he couldn't find a problem with it, but rather said if the check engine light comes on to bring it back...Mind you the check engine never came on to begin with but I'll monitor that. I was recommended by our church for repairing my 1998 Toyota 'Check Engine'. He estimated it and agreed to solve for $225. I agreed and fixed, passed the Emission test, got the registration renewed. Unfortunately, the light came up after a week. Took the car to his shop again. His wife advised the light would go eventually and advised to wait for a month. The light came up and persisted. Again took the Car to his workshop after a month. He could not fix it, instead he was rude. He said there are five sensors and the one he repaired is okay, which meant that he could not take any liability for what he did. ( he asked me 'Are all your fingers same! I did not understand his indecent metaphor!) The payment was done through credit card and he asked to produce the receipt which I could not. However, the bank's statement showing his withdrawal was with me. He won't agree to it and finally I had to leave. Secondly, he charged $90 for replacing a pair of head lamps, which costs only $180 which I bought through eBay. His labor charge will be exorbitant after the first visit. The first time he treats you well to hook you, and start looting after that. He is not at all reliable. The good news is that I got my car fixed for $140 ( labor charge and material cost) and my car is working smoothly till this time! Don't rely him. his wife knows how to speak politely, unfortunately he is rude and a cheat. Now I blame the church who recommended me to his workshop! read more

I can't speak for everyone, but they are A1 according to me. I had two cars taken there in two weeks time. My brother let me borrow his car because I wrecked mine the previous week and was waiting for the insurance to figure things out. Anyway I ran over a huge log with his car and bent the inner and outer tire rods on the passenger side of the car. I put new tires on it at Discount then took it to NBT on Bay Area. They said it was going to be about $800 to replace the tire rod, the control arm, and do the front end alignment. I was like no way. Took it to Tom's and paid 340. Awesome. My insurance quoted me on my car to be about $1700. When I got my brother's car back, I dropped mine off and estimated $750. So I didn't have to pay my $500 deductible. I came in to get my car two days early and they gave me $50 off. They helped me a lot in these terrible few weeks I was having. So I'm pleased with the service. read more

Tom's is OK for small things, like an oil change, a transmission fluid change, brakes, a broken gear shift, or even a starter. But he couldn't change bulbs. I asked him to change the bulbs in my odometer. There are two. You can use a GE bulb or buy the ones at Honda for $10. He told me I had to replace the whole odometer. I went to Honda, bought the two bulbs, popped out the console panel, changed the bulbs and now it works. I don't know why he couldn't figure that out. I'm not a mechanic, and I could change the bulbs. I also asked him why my 'D' was blinking. He doesn't have the code reader. Looking it up on line, it seems that the most common reason for it to be blinking is that a specific transmission sensor needs changed. Why can't he do that? read more

I will NEVER go to Toms Auto again. I had my car towed there, Tom kept it 3 days without ever calling me, finally he looked at it for 30 min, put a relay switch in ($15) and tried to charge me $120. (car was running horrible). Tom then proceeded to tell me I needed to replace the entire spider injector and it will be a minimum $700. I specifically asked him distributor cap he said no..no..no. IT WAS THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP repaired and parts under $200. He is a dishonest mechanic. read more

I took my vehicle here for some work under the hood and when I received it back it was missing the full sized spare. When I asked the owners about this they said they had not gone into the trunk but the tire had been there when the car was dropped off....the owners refused to ask employees about the missing tire and therefore I don't recommend this shop. read more
