Terrible service since Billy Lowery left. In the last couple of years while James was in charge, I understand he started treating customers very poorly. The Wicked Witch of the East that worked in the office was a very rude person. In the end, I'd say the shop got exactly what they wanted. This repair shop was the best before Billy retired. But now a new crew is in charge. Tony is the lead guy and he is dishonest. I dropped my truck off for them to diagnose a problem I suspected was a timing chain issue. Tony called me back and informed me that I did need a new timing chain kit and it would cost ~$2300 (parts/labor, less sales tax and "shop incidentals"). I decided to get a second opinion from another mechanic and when I picked up the truck, Tony charged me $65 for the diagnostics. I asked him if he had performed any diagnostics on the truck and he said no. They just listened to the truck and agreed with my assessment. I told him that his "diagnostics" fee was unfair since he had done nothing to confirm the problem. He simply pointed to the sign on the wall ($65 shop fee). I told him I would never use his shop again and he said "I'm glad". That afternoon, I stopped by another shop. The lead mechanic listened to the engine and said, "Well, I can't confirm it's a bad timing chain unless I briefly run the engine without the serpentine belt in place." I agreed for him to proceed and his diagnosis confirmed the timing chain was ok. The water pump pulley was bad (making noise). He quoted me $750 to replace the pump (parts/labor).. In Summary, Lowery's Automotive (with Tony calling the shots) did NOTHING to confirm the engine problem and were prepared to charge me over $2300 for a timing chain I did not need. We've all heard the stories of mechanics/shops charging for work that's not necessary. Well, I experienced it firsthand and I'm lucky I did not allow Tony's gang to work on my truck. Most honest mechanic I have used in 30 years. They get to you as fast as possible and will tell you exactly what you need done and how much it will be before they do any work, providing all the options. I don't take my cars anywhere else. As the the bad review. Sounds embellished. You can leave your car over night or drop it off first thing. You want a quick oil change? Go to jiffy lube. This is a mechanic. Not the same. Twice I have taken a car that they deemed a simple fix (once fixed it in 5 minutes) and used almost no mechanic time. They didn't charge me either of those times. That's honesty! Swung by here recently to get a used car that I was thinking of purchasing checked out. James was generous with his time and thorough in checking out the car. He also gave me some decent advice in general about used car shopping. If I was buying a used car in this area, I'd go to Billy Lowery again to have it checked out. One of the fears that you might have when buying a used car in an area with a lot of dealers and then going to a mechanic nearby is that the mechanic will rubber stamp the car instead of identifying the problems. Generally, you want your mechanic to play devil's advocate. My experience with James gave me a lot of confidence that a thorough inspection was being done. There is one other very positive detail that I'm leaving out, mainly on behalf of the business, regarding how I was treated. But if you knew what it was, it would only increase your confidence in the business and its honesty. read more

They were going! They fixed my 2006 Toyota Corolla air-conditioning and I have had no problems at all.

I kindly stopped in to ask for an oil change & a/c change for tomorrow or Monday. The lady said we can't promise you anything due to the upcoming weather but you can drop your car off for the day with no guarantee. REALLY? I kindly told her I just drove from San Francisco but used to live here & needed this done. She was rude blaming the weather to not want my business! She seemed to have an attitude on top of it! So, this is the welcome I receive coming back to Tx with a small business that has 3.5 stars or something? To top it off, they weren't even busy! I saw the garage. I hope this hurts their rating, to improve on customer service, they are 1 star. So, I ended up driving down Preston to a Certified auto shop that used to do my Tx inspections & God bless him! He said he can take my car first thing in the morning & gave me the reasonable cost & detail of what he would be doing to accomodate me & I don't have to leave my car! He has been in business many years, he's treating people right! He will get 5 stars & a great YELP review. He wants people's business without blaming the weather & being rude. read more

My wife brought in a old beater 2006 Honda Civic that needed a starter. Instead of asking if we wanted a 3rd party starter, they put in a $300 OEM starter on a car worth $1500. O'Reilly's had one for $129. They then charged 21/2 hours for labor for a job that couldn't have taken more than 1/2 hour. My wife ended up paying $600 for a starter for a beat up car. I think they took advantage of a woman. If I had been there, this gouging would have never taken place. They said they could charge 2/12 hours because it says so on a piece of paper in a book.
