I have been a loyal customer of Clear Lake Auto for years, but my recent experience was very disappointing. I was told my vehicle would be ready by Saturday, but the completion date was delayed to Monday and then again to Tuesday. The final price was not the same as the initial quote. When I checked the quote that was sent to me, I noticed the price had been changed to reflect the new, higher amount. Fortunately, I had taken screenshots and was able to catch the discrepancies. When I called about the price, they immediately corrected one of the discrepancies but did not address the others, even after I sent photos as proof. I initially brought my car in for a check engine light and was told it was the O2 sensor. I paid $160 for the diagnostic and $250 to replace the O2 sensor. However, by the end of the week, the check engine light was back on. When I called them again, they said it was probably another O2 sensor and that I needed to bring the car back in. I got the front end replaced and within a week the seals blew and had to take it back in for them to hold it for a week claiming various reasons why they couldn't get it replaced. After this less than stellar experience, I have decided to take my business elsewhere. read more

These guys are amazing brought my truck in for diagnostic testing due to check engine light and had a multi point inspection done since I just bought the truck from an individual, an man I knew the truck was rough around the edges n needed some tlc, but just picked it up and it runs drives like it's brand new! I rarely leave reviews but, I chose this place based off all of the good reviews! I was NOT disappointed. My brakes sounded horribleeee and it even got to the point where I did not feel safe making my daily commute into Houston. Luckily, I called them Wednesday and they were able to get me in that Saturday morning. Isaac at the front was incredibly nice and explained to me how they will look at it, send me an email with what they found and a break down. Then they would call me to confirm pricing before they start. I got my final pricing for brakes and ac to be fixed in the future. They told me what was priority that day and what could wait! It was more than I expected because of the parts I needed but honestly, they were quick, nice and had tons of cars they were currently working on it (from it looked like). Yeah, I could have looked up the parts and bought them myself etc. but I rather save time and pay a professional. The best part was when I picked up my girl, they had washed her inside and outside and she looked amazing! She drives like she's brand new and I can't explain how happy I am with the service! As expected received call a few hours later from our contact at clear lake auto service advising us what issue was. What we didn't expect is clear lake auto service performed repairs without our authorization. We had no opportunity to approve cost which is our first complaint. Second complaint is once we arrived to pay we were advised a completely different price which was more than twice the amount provided over the phone. I went here for an oil change mostly based on Kimberly's review. This place has three names: Clear Lake Auto Service, Clear Lake Tire & Auto Inc. & Good Year They do oil changes only in the morning and by appointment. I like the appointment arrangement. I must say I found things a little odd. In addition to having three names, there was no one at the service desk when I arrived. After waiting a short time I noticed the clerical staff in an adjacent room (I'll refer to this room as the Sound Proof Booth - SPB), so I opened the door and asked if I came in here -- I got a abrupt NO! So I went back to the empty room with the vacant service desk and waited. Soon a lady came out of the SPB and I said I was there for an oil change. When I said this she looked somewhat surprised, stunned or bewildered. Then after thinking for a moment asked my name. She studied the computer for a few moments, apparently found me and went back to the SPB. After sitting in the empty room for a few minutes I wanted to ask a question but no one came out of the SPB for 55 minutes when the lady came to the service desk and said my car was ready and I paid. She was very pleasant now. It was like something was confusing or unexpected about my coming in. It was almost exactly one hour from drive in to drive out. All this was is to say I found things strange, but I was happy with the service and will almost surely return. read more

This place is great! Very professional and helpful, and yes, sometimes not the cheapest, but truthfully, I want quality over quantity when I'm driving my car. I mean, this is the thing that gets me safely from point A to point B on Houston's freeways. I have a new car now, so I don't see them very often, thank goodness, but I used to be here a lot when I old my older car. Recently though I had a tire that kept going down; they aired it up for me, but it kept losing air. Crap. I had something in it. And since I bought a new, bigger car, it has wonderfully expensive big Goodyear tires. Luckily they were able to patch it up (it was nail close to the edge) and hopefully now I won't have to spend $300 on a new tire. They offer shuttle service if needed. Plus they really go out of their way to offer exceptional customer service. Bobby, Chris, JC, and Adrian are all great guys, who know their stuff. Actually everyone there is knowledgeable, but these are the guys that my husband and I deal with mostly. I have just got to share this with everyone!! Several weeks ago I my a c went out and I was told that it would cost $1400 to repair. I have been going without ever since and I have been miserable! I was hit head on by 2 vehicles at the same time and the insurance company would not fix my a.c. I took my car into Clear Lake Auto to have the transmission flushed and they saw the part had fallen off of my a.c. and they put it back on and fixed my A.C. for $59.00!!! These are the nicest most wonderful people I have ever been to and I recommended them to my son and to anyone and everyone who wants a repair shop that cares about their customers. If you want an auto repair shop with great customer service, knowledgeable and experienced technicians, and honesty, then Clear Lake Auto Service is your place. I think the owner has about 30 years experience; he has staff that has been with him for decades; they don't try to sell you stuff you don't need; they didn't even try to sell me stuff that I do need. I went in with an AC problem, but I also have an oil leak, and bad tires. They could have tried to sell me tires, or told me I have to get the oil leak fixed, but they didn't. No pressure at all! They have a nice waiting room if you want to stay while the repairs are done. They have a shuttle service with a super nice driver that will take you to and from your job or home or where ever you need if you leave your vehicle there for service/repairs. They will help you with a rental car if you need it. And they are open a full day on Saturday which is helpful. Bonus: They usually clean your vehicle, at no extra charge! My one bit of advice is if you can, call ahead and schedule an appointment. Sometimes they are really busy and can't get to you right away. But if you know your going to need a break job, and you can drive your vehicle a couple of more days, call and check their schedule; if they aren't busy and can take you right away, great; but if they are busy, you can schedule it, which will help you with your daily routine, and help them plan accordingly. read more

My husband and I recently made the trip from Washington to Texas and used our Subaru Forester to haul all of our things and it made it like a champ! We wanted to get our car checked out after we made it and are so glad we brought it here. Although a little gruff over the phone, they were kind and straightforward in person. They told us the car is in great condition, but it could use an engine flush and a tune up, which made sense to us after such a long drive and the car being close to 100,000 miles. My ohh my...Am I the only one that they tried to rip off? Situation, car broke down on Freeway, AAA dropped it off at place nearest my house. Clear Lake Auto.... :-) They needed to run diagnostics test for $85.., done not bad price. I was told I needed a new fuel pump, and spark plugs & possibly oxygen sensors. Quoted me 2300. About to say ok, I need it as soon as possible, (its a handicapped van, only one, extremely important that its running no problems) I look up fuel pumps for my model online, they range from 250- 350 dollars. Then I read about labor on doing whats needed, its a pain but its only supposed to take 1 - 2 hours with mechanic.... I by no means am a car expert, I figured ok a price, say they charge double the fuel pump 700 plus double the man hours 4 hours at 100 an hour... thats 1100. Not 2300. Towed it to Meineke, they had replace fuel pump,do fuel injector flush, fuel filter premium oil change , plus whatever things I don't understand. For 1000. Scam me not.... I understand paying a premium for things & understand I could have gotten all things cheaper, at a mom & pop type no name Mechanic, but Meineke did alot better for me then Clear Lake Auto. Shameful. I have been driving past this place for years always laughing at the dummies they have "fixing" cars in front of the shop. Dressing them up for holidays. But I never would have thought I would need their services at 7 in the morning. Had to do some quick tire fixing around 6:45 this morning. I drove around Clear Lake looking for a place that was open. I got here around 7:05 and they were open! I was amazed! I pulled in and asked if they could fix my tire or put my spare on. The guy at the counter said they would first see if they could fix it then decide about the spare. Then said it would be done in about 30 minutes. I sat down and waited for them to finish. They got it done in 30 minutes and it only cost $20! I was so impressed how quickly they got it done so early in the morning. Everyone was very polite. Best place to take your car for oil change to extensive work. Chris and John have taken care of me and my buddies vehicles for about the past 8 years. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and truly aim to get your vehicle back to you in the shortest amount of time possible. If there are any unexpected issues, they strive to correct them and keep the customer as happy as humanly possible. Another great thing besides the stellar customer service is that the staff is actually honest with you. They do not try to push upsales on you but provide you a list of services and alternatives allowing you to choose at your own discretion. I had to visit this center because they are the closest preferred Goodyear retailer and I had a screw in my tire and my tires are still new yet Nissan wanted me to purchase a new tire are you kidding me Nissan, less than 30k I'm sure Goodyear has some assistance or recommendation for their product other than replacing a $300 tire. The 1st thing the nice guy did was come out to take a look and said, oh you have lots of tread and life in these tires so I told him which tire Nissan said needed to be replaced he immediately assessed it and discovered the screw and said due to it being close to closing his guys who could take care of it were gone but could resolve it Monday, but to get it done that day I could go to NTB or Discount Tire and they would take care of it even if I didn't purchase the tires from them. So that information was very helpful and to have a Goodyear rep not get me to purchase a $300 tire and provide solid alternative was awesome! Don't know their way around a carbureted engine, also be very wary of nickel and dime BS additional charges. Do not go there for simple brake repair. They tried to charge and extra $55.00 to remove one bolt, add a brass washer and reinstall and tighten. Told them to stop all work and brought my vihcal home, and what do you know the leaky brake fitting fixed itself, because I couldn't find or reproduce the leak. Their ideal customer is someone that doesn't know their way around cars. You'll go in to have an issue fixed and end up paying for half a dozen items that really weren't an issue to begin with. read more

Tim Nicolades at Clear Lake Auto Services is amazing! I was about to go on an eleven hour road trip with my car and Tim warned me not to go with my two worn out front tires. He directed me to Discount Tires (because they can give me a life time guarantee and a lower price). All I had to do was ordering the tires over the phone, and Tim had his driver to come pick it up from Discount Tires, and assembling them for me for free (since I already had to pay for some other works on the car). I messed up the order the first time, so the driver had to actually go there twice to get the tires for me. Throughout the process, Tim and his mechanics have been extremely pleasant and explained every thing in clear, simple terms. Tim was very straightforward and honest about prices and let me know whether or not I need to replace a part just yet (plus, showing me pictures of my parts so that I can see for myself). He is absolutely not trying to push for a sale, and willing to work with his customers to where car repair can be affordable and as painless as possible of an experience. I have been with Clear Lake Auto Services for more than five years now and their honesty, diligence, and quality services have never let me down. I wanted to like this place -- it had good reviews, it was close by and they offered shuttle service. However, my recent experience here was not a pleasant one. Took my car in for a routine oil change and inspection at an appointed time of 9am. Usually by the tail end of their workday they call to let me know it's done... but that didn't happen this time and they just closed up shop with no phone call and I'm now unexpectedly without a car, so I had to cancel my evening plans and had to walk to my morning appointment. My unpleasant experience doesn't end there - after I picked the car up the next day as I was driving off a new, loud sound took place and I had turn back around. Turns out the engine shield wasn't correctly put back on. They had the car for over 24 hours and couldn't get a basic oil change done correctly -- no way do I plan on putting myself, my time and my car through anymore there with this extreme lack of oversight and lack of concern for my time. They had the minimal decency to comp the oil change. (On another note, I was also perplexed as to why they recommended to replace the spark plugs and do a transmission flush when there is no apparent reason to and my car manufacturer doesn't recommend these services till 100,000 and I'm at 60,000) Update: I want to clarify that the shop did not say those services needed to be done but recommended they be done based off a 3rd party maintenance system they go off of -which as it was later explained to me- assumes the vehicle is in extreme conditions and some examples given were: weather, towing, and heavy traffic. read more

I took my company's car to a local car wash/lube place. They said they could replace a turn signal bulb (which I was providing) for me during the oil change. They failed. It was Sat afternoon and I was headed out of town. I called Clear Lake Auto Service for help. Robert said they could take care of it. The job that the lube place was not capable of was accomplished in 5 mins at Clear Lake. Additionally, Robert advised me about a noise the steering was making and instead of talking me into having them fix it, told me that is was a manufacture's recall and that the dealer should take care of it for no cost. Went in because my engine made a faint grinding noise when it dropped down to idle. They got the car in quick, all finished and paid up in 1.5 hours. They couldn't find anything wrong with it, but did a full inspection. They said to be on the lookout for a more prominent noise in the future-- said it may be the engine mounts. Charged me for a 1/2 hour service, ~$57. When I paid and got back in the car, immediately heard the noise once the car came down to an idle..... Grrrrr, I know that noise is coming from somewhere! Wish they could have found it, but at least I have the peace of mind that it isn't something terribly wrong under the hood. Adrian and the service tech provided good service. read more

After years(12 years) of letting Clear Lake Auto Service work on my cars, that all ends today. When people don't do what they say they will do then we have to part ways. They originally replaced the fuel pump on my jeep but after having to have it towed back there again they put it on the computer to find out there was a recall. I had to rent a car to go to Dallas for Christmas (yes they have loaner cars but they were not big enough) Chris told me in regard to the bill that we would work something out for us. Now they are going to give us a future credit on repairs instead of reimbursing the expense. I am out $200 and they did not come through on "working it out for us" Anybody know of another place in Clear Lake that I can take my car from now on? I was referred here by my husband who had to have his jeep towed here. I had to have my car towed in and the tow truck was there in less than an hour, called out by CLAS.
