Cars and teeth go hand in hand. You have NO idea what you don't know and can be taken to the coals in a nano second for stuff you really don't need. Ignorance is certainly not bliss in this case!! However at Ben's Workshop- you never feel ignorant. I have an '04 Sequoia which they now service as a result of acquiring Tower Automotive, previously on Lamar. Front desk service was with a smile, and very professional. My service consisted of 4 new tires, an annual "well-check" and oil change. Fees were discussed and we very fair. Service was outstanding. I brought my Benz there one year ago and they kept it for 4 days for a very simple repair issue. When I expressed my displeasure they were quick to point out they were very understaffed that particular week and that was not how they generally conducted business. After their reassurances I opted to give them another try last week. Again I had a few very simple problems, and again after 4 days they still had not completed the work. I was told my car would not pass the state inspection and I needed new oxygen sensors. After they were replaced I was told it still did not pass and they wanted it for another day. I picked it up and brought it to the dealer, where it passed with flying colors. Their hourly rate is essentially the same as at the dealer and their work is far inferior. I had a bad experience with Mercedes-Benz of Austin, as they couldn't fix seemingly simple electronic problems with my car and still charged me for doing nothing! On the other hand Ben's had everything done for me very quickly and at a very fair price in comparison to the dealership. I would not still own my Mercedes if it wasn't for Bill Morey and the service team at Ben's. So...you know those emblems the car dealerships put on your car? That basically advertise their dealership on the car that you paid for?? Yeah. I couldn't get the darn thing off to save my life and was terrified I'd pull off half the paint in the process. I needed help. I pass the Covert Body Shop on 5th every day on my way to work so I thought, I'll just pull in there and see if they can help me real quick-like. Well, I missed the driveway and turned on Pressler to see if they had a back entrance. They don't - because Ben's Workshop is there. I don't drive a Mercedes. I don't even dream of driving a Mercedes. This didn't matter a bit to the team at Ben's - they had that thing off in 2.2 seconds. They didn't charge me at all! Nice surprise. :) They also own the BMW shop down the way so you're probably covered no matter what you drive. My Honda and I are ecstatically happy (and emblem-free)! Go to Ben's! read more

After two tries at the dealer, I brought my E550 in for an alignment. It's now spot on. The technician (Jase) rode with me, say the issue, and fixed it. When I picked the car up, Bill went over the alignment specs with me. It was great actually talking with the people who do the work. A few days later, I received a nice, signed, thanks for your business letter in the mail. I like going places where it's clear my business is appreciated. I have been going to Ben's for years for my E320. Recently, I had some problems with a sensor light coming on. I had just had my oil changed at a local auto care place in Cedar Park. So, I limped it in there and was told "rats had eaten through to my engine and it would be around 5K to get it repaired. I kindly stated I would need a second opinion and quickly called Bill Moury, the owner. He had it towed and the next day told me it was repaired and would be a fraction of the cost quoted. Short version: Ben's Workshop is a top, professional Mercedes shop that does informed, high-quality work at a labor rate reflective of that level of quality that also beats dealer rates hands down. Long version: I took my 89 Mercedes gwagen in for extensive brake work. She's a rusty mutt to work with, but Barry was all over it and had a can-do attitude from the start. Along the way were some complications due to corrosion issues on the vehicle, but thanks to the experience and knowledge level at a pro shop like Ben's, they approached each issue with patience and careful workmanship. A week later, I was driving out of there with half a new brake system that braked better than I thought was possible and the knowledge that the work was quality (also, it occurs to me that they also guarantee their work for a year, so how bout that). Their part sourcing prices were cheaper than I expected, and their labor rate was fair (especially when shops like this tend to make much on older vehicles like mine). So if you have work needed on a Mercedes vehicle, high quality work is a priority for you, and you feel that you generally get what you pay for, then you know where to go. read more

My sister's luxury sports car made a loud clunking noise whenever it was driven over a speed bump or pothole. I took it to the dealer and they, including the shop manager, spent half a day looking for the problem and then declared the front end was in perfect order and the problem had to be in the frame. I refused to pay for the additional work they would have to do to find the problem. I mentioned the problem to Sherry of Ben's, where my wife and I have received excellent service of our Mercedes for years, and she invited me to bring it in so they could take a look at it. Their mechanics put it up on a rack along side another vehicle identical to it and found that the sway bar had been hitting the frame because it was installed upside down. The bill to find and fix the problem was less than $350, but I had been ready to pay much more to solve this noxious problem. read more

Ben's Workshop is absolutely phenomenal and possibly the very best mechanic in Austin for Mercedes and BMW cars. The have many of the same proprietary diagnostic systems as the dealership, but provide a much higher level of service at a more reasonable rate. It was my first visit to these guys and they have definitely earned my repeat business. The experience was so good I decided to make a yelp account for the sole purpose of recommending this shop for other Benz owners. My '97 E420 was unable to pass inspection due to some readiness monitor issues and was plagued with an inconsistent idle. I had taken my car to two other independent mechanics and the dealership (Mercedes Benz of Austin) with all three telling me there was nothing mechanically wrong with the car and that I just had to drive the car more to get it to pass (I had already put literally thousands of miles on the car by this point with no luck). I resigned myself to the fact that I might have to give up and get a one year inspection waiver, but thankfully the gentlemen at Texas DPS suggested I give Ben's Workshop a whirl. First of all, the staff there is excellent, professional, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in every regard. Every staff member I spoke to ( Bill (the owner), Barry (service manager), Dustin and Chris) were all great. I got the car back the same day and in the time they had the vehicle their mechanics had diagnosed and fixed the two underlying issues that were preventing my readiness monitors, test driven the car and done a thorough look over of the whole vehicle. The following day, with me just doing some regular commute driving, the car had passed inspection and was ready to be registered for the year. My E420 is now driving like a champ and is running better than it ever has in my 3 year possession of the car. I want to reiterate that these were issues that had stumped two other independent mechanics and even went unfixed and unnoticed by Mercedes Benz of Austin despite the fact that the dealership has Star Diagnostic Systems and a whole team of techs to look over cars. Ben's Workshop not only did a better job than Mercedes Benz of Austin, but they appeared considerably more knowledgeable about these vehicles than any mechanic I've worked with so far. Plus they offer complimentary rides to and from the shop while your vehicle is being worked on, which is very convenient and their location and reception room provides a pleasant customer service experience from start to finish. In summation, if you own a Mercedes Benz or BMW go to Ben's Workshop, they are fantastic and probably the best people to go to for any sorts of repairs you might need. I know if I have any repairs I can't DIY, Ben's will be my go-to mechanic from now on. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars, seriously. read more

I have trusted you Texans with my Okie daughter and her aged inherited '94 C220 Benz. She had a crisis this week and I found Ben's in a search. I had it towed to them with little or no advanced warning and with some specific instructions of repairs and estimates. To a "T" they complied and she is off and running. The service manager and Dustin treated me with integrity and respect. Sigh. I have always had trust issues with mechanics, they steal from you, they lie to you... They just screw you over. I was very disappointed to find out this place is not the exception. About six months ago, I took my X5 to this shop for an oil change and something else it needed (message center was telling me so), everything went nice and smooth, from the nice lady at the front desk (not the girl with long blond ish hair, she was a little abrasive) , to the guy I spoke to about my car, all to the end , until .. I got my car back, there it was, a dent on the left passenger side, small (about a quarter size). I was a little pissed, because obviously whoever did this, knew what he/she did and didn't tell me anything about it (shady and unprofessional), so I called back and after they asked "are you sure?"..( Ehem, yes I am), I ended up talking to a very nice gentleman, (the owner?) all I know is he drives a gold Mercedes SUV. I explained to him what has happened, I told him how everything had been nice and smooth, but that this dent on my car was not there when I left it earlier (you could tell the dent was "new") , he was nice and even offered to pay to fix it, he went ahead and gave me a card with the number of the guy he uses to do body work on his cars, very nice. At that point I was satisfied, because like I said earlier, didn't care so much for the dent, but it bothered me that they tried to be sneaky about it. I contacted the gentleman from the card, very nice and helpful. The estimate to fix that little dent was almost 600 dollars, because (he said) he had to paint the whole door. I was like "a little too much, the gentleman (from Ben's) was so nice, I wouldn't like to do that to him, (make him pay such an amount for pretty much nothing) so I decided to call it quits and forget about the incident , I was happy with the service and the job they have done, I thought to myself "yay, finally found a mechanic I like!".. Boy was I wrong ... Fast forward, the message center was telling me there was something wrong, plus there was / is a noise my car Has been doing for a few days maybe that's what the message center is trying to tell me ?, also one of the locks (passenger side) was not working. I am not a mechanic obviously so I took it to my new trusted place. First, no more friendliness, what had happened ? I don't know. I tried to explain (to Kyle I think?) the best I could that noise and what the car was doing , and then this girl (same abrasive girl from last time) "BUT, WHAT IS IT ?".... Well, if I knew I would've fix it myself.. So I just told Kyle to run the test they perform (computer they conect to the "brain" of the car to see why is it showing the message on the screen). "Can I keep the car today ?" (It was around 11 am) "I am off today and tomorrow so sure, take your time", I answered. I also told him to please be careful because of what happened last time (dent) "sure".. Ok, I wasn't happy with the customer service but I'm there to fix my car, not to be "pampered" (like last time). Kyle called right past 5 pm, to tell me that he wasn't sure what was wrong with the lock, but they could remove the panel and find out ... Isn't that what I'm paying 116 dollars for an estimate ? Anyways, I don't care much about the lock, what is it with the message center , it's telling me that service is due , what is it ? "Oil stand gasket", I don't know what it is but it needs to be done, right? So I asked him to go ahead and do it. Next "so what is that noise the car is making?" He said he doesn't know, but he will check it in the morning and call me to let me know (at this point I was clear I wanted the gasket changed), fair enough I will wait for his call .. 330 pm, and no call, I need my car to go to work , so I called "Oh sure, I was about to call you" ..whatever. "So I heard the noise like 4 or 5 times, it's coming from the bottom".. That o know, what is it? Can you fix it ? , "well, I don't know what it is, but we need to fix it before it gets worst...." Really ?.. Anyways, I just thought "I'm going to get the car, they fixed whatever the message center was telling me.. Wrong. I arrive , and I'm given an estimate .. "So you didn't do anything to my car?", "no.." (Insert awkward gap of silence).. "Ok, but I told you to go ahead and fix it, that was the reason of your call yesterday".. At this point I was (still I am as I'm writing this) beyond fucking pissed, you are telling me that not only you didn't fix anything on my car, but also you are not "sure" of what is wrong with the door, nor the noise the car is making ?... So my car was sitting there for two days for what? How did you manage to take away the message from the message center without fixing what was wrong with it ? .. Now more than ever I wish I would've go ahead and do that fucking dent for 600 dollars, I'm sure that means nothing for them but still. "Your total comes to 116 dollars".. To tell me you don't know what's wrong?..SMH. read more

A friend of mine told me about this place when I bought my used MB. I've used Ben's a few times in the past and they did a good job. Then they moved to their new location. After the experience I had this week, I will never take my car there again. The front desk staff are always rude and arrogant to begin with. What's up with that? When I asked for an estimate for the 60K plan, He guessed at it and quoted $1600 off the top of his head ($1300 over last year). I called the Mercedes dealership and they quoted 1/2 the cost of the quote. Then he apologized and said he was wrong and then agreed to do the job for $50 below the MB dealership. Because I had been to Ben's in the past and was already there, I agreed to the estimate. A couple hours later, I get a call from Ben's asking if I wanted a new air filter ($167 more) and on top of that, even though it wasn't time, (and my car will let me know when it's time), did I want them to check the brake pads -more cost). I told them thanks but no thanks and asked them to finish up and I would be back to pick up my car. He said he would have the car cleaned up for me and ready by my return. Always before, they have vacuumed my car but when I returned, the car was not cleaned up as before. The only thing I can think of is they are needing to pay for their new venue and are running up the invoices as high as they can on their current clients. Whatever their reason, it's not worth going there anymore. read more

I have been screwed by every BMW/Benz mechanic in town...from Terry Sather to Luxury Auto works. They seem to not give a rat's ass or be in a "get rich quick scheme" that only helps their own pockets and are never very willing to take the time to explain what your car is going thru, what to expect and how much your bill will be. I had heard from various "ex BMW mechanics" that Ben's Workshop was not only the most honest place in town, but provided the best service as well. My X5 decided it wanted to run no more, so I had it towed to Ben's. They diagnosed my vehicle, gave me options as to repairs and were completely transparent on cost. It was like they actually cared about my car and my checkbook! I gotta say, I don't normally feel good about any "auto repair", as I always feel I am getting "f...ed" without being bought a nice dinner first... these guys were definitely a nice breath of fresh air and I will never take my BMW anywhere but here. Super nice people, lovely shop. They provide coffee, snacks, water and colas in the waiting area. I have an odd car (Morgan Aero 8) and took it in for an inspection and to fix the headlight switch. Bill fixed the headlight switch quickly and didn't charge me a cent. All the techs I met were super friendly. It is fantastic to have a high quality, nice place in the neighborhood. It's hard to give a service organization any positive reviews when one continues to spend money with no results. The big caveat used is no guarantee we've fixed the problem. That should be a warning to anyone considering this place. I believe we take our cars in to be fixed. Ben's thinks we take our cars in to pay them money. The objectives are misaligned. read more

I can't say enough good things about Ben's Workshop. 6 weeks ago, my BMW began smoking. Panicked, I Googled repair shops in my area- the first place I called was booked for the entire week and said to call back. Ben's was the second place I called. Though also booked, they said to drive over and they would fit me in first thing the next morning. There ended up being several issues with my 11-year-old car. Kyle, however, is a marvel! He provided me with a prioritized list on what needed repair immediately and what could wait and what each repair would cost. Long story short, two weeks later, I had another unrelated issue and, two weeks after that...another one. While BMW repairs and replacements aren't cheap anywhere, Ben's Workshop has gone above and beyond to fix my car - they always fit me in, explain what they're doing/have done, and my car is always ready when they say it will be. It's running better than ever! Ben's is the first mechanic repair shop I've used since moving to Austin and the only one I will ever trust with my car. What I've had to spend is a lot of money for me- it makes it more bearable that I know my car is fixed and fixed right! read more

I took my 2005 CLK 320 convertible to Ben's in October 2015 because I was having problems with the convertible top. Anyone that has a convertible always fears the hydraulic pump going out, but they said that it was the HYD CYL Folding Top (1914.00) and the HYD Top Folding RT (482.63) for a total of $3, 706.48. I went down the street, less than 1/2 mile and tried to put the top up and a warning came on, and the top stopped. I returned where we checked it again, I was told not to worry about the warning message, everything was fine and for about 2 months it was. Then I had problems again, I took it back to Ben's and the owner came out and checked it for me, it worked, but his advice was not to use the top, because they were known to have problems. The warranty was about to end, so I took it back in on June 6, 2016. Guess what, it was the Hydraulic pump (not anything under warranty), total cost $3,606.87. I had also asked for an oil change $167.22. I had them put the car back together, paid for the most expensive oil change ever and left. Beware!!! read more
