I was having a problem installing my printer to a different computer and called Ben's for service on a Friday. They answered the phone immediately, were very polite and sent Carlos out within 30 minutes to my home. Unfortunately Carlos found there were issues with the hard drive (the computer was 7 years old & had been used consistently). He took my computer back to his shop, replaced the hard drive, reinstalled Windows and made a backup of all my files on a thumb drive. He delivered my computer back on Monday and then installed my printer for me. Everything is working perfectly and the charge was only $284.26. ERICA was the computer technician assigned to work on my ASUS laptop computer. I told her of my virus problem and why my laptop kept shutting down, and why it was running so slow!. She fixed my laptop and explained what was wrong and what she did. She gave me some hints on how to keep my ASUS laptop running healthy and smooth. Cost was very reasonable! I went in to just grab a cheap monitor for work, but happened to see an IMac desktop sitting there that my wife has been wanting for a while now, i bought the monitor for work and said id be back for the IMac, the next day i came back, he showed me the workings of it so i knew it wasnt junk and it was fast!! I know jack about apple product, im an HP guy so he helped me in making my decision to purchase and was able to work with me a little on the price to seal the deal. ITS NOT BEN ANYMORE We have been taking computers to Ben literally since he opened. Probably over 20-25 computers have been through his shop from my family. Called to get a repair quote on a laptop and got quoted $150 in labor, I brought it in and then he quoted me at least $300 in labor... and $175-$200 for the screen. Apparently despite many reviews of thinkpads being very easy to work on, this one is especially difficult which is reason to literally double the labor from the on the phone quote. Well I ordered the replacement screen for $99 and replaced the screen in literally 15 minutes. I have never worked on a laptop before. There was a sign inside that said Ben has retired and this new guy is committed to the same great service. Flat out not true and dishonest. Go somewhere else. read more

I would give a zero review if possible. I brought my computer in to Carlos's business and before we even got started, he slammed the computer on his hard desk three times trying to open the back up to find out what year it was . Thank god he did not crack the screen. He then proceeded to tell me that the computer was a piece of shit and would I like to donate it to him. I had a bad feeling and said I will take my computer back then I brought it over to the other computer repair place around the corner And come to find out it was not a 2013 computer like Carlos told me it was in fact a 2018 computer , so he lied to me about the year because I had bought it off craigslist and he told me it was a piece of shit and come to find out the other place said it was an amazing computer, so I would not recommend anybody taking their computers to Ben's for repair or work he does not know what he's talking about. He's a complete idiot. Also I called him up and told him that he was wrong and thank God I didn't listen to him and donate it to him and he argued with me and hung up on me. John managed to clone my hard drive and transfer data to a new computer with all data restored to original format including many important files. I was very thankful that he basically saved many years of hard work and important files on my hard drive. I was in Grover Beach on vacation and i had forgotten the adapter for my brand new travel laptop. My friend called Ben's because it was nearby and I walked to the store later in the day. Ben was friendly, helpful and had a genuinely caring demeanor. He had an adapter for me and proceeded to make sure it worked with my device before i left the store and told me to call or come back if i experienced any issues. I had no issues with the adapter but visited the store twice more during my stay. Once for a potential second issue with the laptop and once just to thank him for his excellent customer service. I am so happy to have found this place in Arroyo Grande. The owner has been exceptionally helpful on two occasions now. The first one was to somehow retrieve photos of my son's trip-of-a-lifetime on my old crashed laptop. I went in recently because I thought the wireless switch on my computer was broken. Some repair companies might have just replaced it, but Ben did some troubleshooting, and found out that I had two antiviruses mistakenly installed on my computer. Just brought in my tower HP system, which only had 15 mg of memory left, according to the annoying screen messages. While my experience with Ben's Computers started out well, it did not end up on a good note. Ben's worked on 2 of my computers: a 4 month old Dell (hard drive crash) and a 6 year old HP (diagnostic & virus cleanup). After spending $200, my new Dell is being shipped to the Dell Depot & the HP is up & running slowly. I'm not sure about the competence of the work performed, but the attitude of Ben & the young man who rang up my services was rude & unprofessional. I forgot to mention. Ben does not charge 3 hours for $195.00 as one reviewer (Karen G.) states. Ben charges $39.00 for an estimate if you do not know what you want done. If you know what has to be done there is no estimate charge. That estimate fee is waived if Ben makes the repairs. He quotes parts and labor separately and has a flat rate no hourly charges. My wife's (10+ year old) MacBook Pro would not boot up. I took it to Ben's at 11:00 am. They tried to resurrect it but the motherboard was gone. By 3:00 pm they had transferred everything to a refurbished MacBook Pro that had 4 times the RAM and a more powerful processor. Her specialized software still worked great! Thank you Ben's! I don't like to post negative stuff but in this case I have no choice. I took my system to Bens a few weeks back. I had two simple issues which were for the most part taken care of. Yes, he charged $39 but let me tell you, you get what you pay for. When I got the computer back, he had forgotton to tighen up the back panels. There was also software on my system which I didn't put on there and the internet didn't work when I got it back. I will not use this person again. read more

So, I brought my Lenovo in for repair, I had spilled juice on the keyboard but it worked fine with an external key board, when I never heard back my wife went in to check on it and was told that it had motherboard problems and could not be fixed. So it has sat in a closet for a few months until recently I needed some files off the hard drive, tried to boot it with an external keyboard with no luck, decided to disassemble, low and behold the usb controller had been disconnected. Unless this place recently had a magical change take place in their staff all of a sudden, I actually wouldn't even bother with this place and go to a more reputable place for repair ^^. My desktop wouldn't work any more all of a sudden. When powered up I couldn't get windows loaded completely etc. Took it in and was told by a tech there that after he had inspected everything, he was able to find out my mother board was fried and needed a new one and began tossing prices out to me for replacements. I ended up just taking my desktop home with out paying for anything except the 35 dollar fee for inspection ............... ^^. I took my comp to a friend who knew computers also as his schedule opened up and it took him all of 5 minutes to simply hit a reset switch that had tripped on the mother board and walla.....all was fine.....0.0......has been emailing, videoing and gaming just fine now....I'll never ever go back to this place and always recommend against it. Living in a smaller town, one gets to know a reputable shop fairly quickly. In my case, my hard drive was crashing on my desktop HP computer. I stopped in at Ben's Computer on Grand Ave. and explained what was happening. I am self employed and without my computer, I am unemployed. This place is terrific. It is so reassuring to have a local computer shop that can give you a real answer on what is wrong with your computer (even if it means that it isn't worth fixing). We've relied on Ben and his staff over the past 3 years (3-4 times) with different family computers. Each time they diagnosed the problem on the same day and I had the computer back the next day.
