Ben's ! What a delightful surprise. The graphics on my Dell Laptop failed on Sunday night. I'm a home user with 30-40 years of administrative experience who uses Quicken for home budgeting, bill paying, and tax information. I also frequently use the internet and YouTube for ongoing learning. (Note for usage comparisons, I don't do any gaming.) I was on my way to Best Buy in SLO and, as I drove north, I thought, "Wait...haven't I seen a computer place on Grand, somewhere? I wonder if they SELL computers." I also needed help with what "specs" I needed, because gigabytes? Processing speed? All kind of gobbledygook I was encountering when I looked on Amazon. I needed a real person. I walked in and was greeted by Ben himself, speaking at a normal adult speed (been to Best Buy lately?). "Yes, we've been selling and servicing computers in Grover Beach for (forty-something?) years." He asked me about my needs, how I use the computer and what for, and directed me to the computer I needed. I expected to hear that they had to order it and it should be in, in (Four days? Two weeks?) but they had it in stock. I loved the way they handled their merchandise carefully, reverently...these guys don't toss a computer around like it's disposable. He opened it up, turned it on, showed me the graphics, pointed things out. I'm going into this detail because there's a lot of people out there who might, like me, tire of the fast-talking 20-year-olds who want to get you out the door as quickly as possible and usually with $400-600 less in your wallet than you really needed to spend. You wont find a mammoth parking lot at Ben's; there are two spaces in front and then it's the street. It's not directly off the freeway; you'll need to enjoy Grand Avenue, almost to the beach. This place is terrific. It is so reassuring to have a local computer shop that can give you a real answer on what is wrong with your computer (even if it means that it isn't worth fixing). We've relied on Ben and his staff over the past 3 years (3-4 times) with different family computers. Each time they diagnosed the problem on the same day and I had the computer back the next day. They are knowledgeable and fair. My sister was looking for an older basic computer to run some old software on. She found it at Ben's and they even loaded the software and helped her configure it. Once again, Ben's came to the rescue. We needed to install a new router, make sure all our computers and printers and IPhone worked properly, and automatically. Ben sent Leo over and he efficiently completed what would have taken me four hours to accomplish with tech support from the router company. Ben and staff did a terrific job identifying problem with my laptop computer. Their response was timely (had a call within four hours of dropping it off at the shop,) and options for repair or replacement were given to me. I elected to replace the laptop, due to its age, and picked up the new laptop the following am. Price was fair, data and software were transferred from my old computer, and there were no surprise charges for this service. Ben would not let me leave until I was oriented to and comfortable with the new computer. Hi, my husband and I had a problem on our 7 yr.old computer. The cooling fan quit. Geek squad' s answer was buy a new computer. We were not ready to do that. We discovered Ben's Computers in Grover Beach Ca. After taking our computer in there, the manager offered an easy fix. Purchase a external auxiliary cooling fan and it should last for a time when we can choose a new computer. The cost to do that was $30 & the examination of our computer by Ben's was $39. Geek squad wanted $80 to look at the computer and no option to fix but purchasing a new one. We are very happy with the service and everything about Ben's Computers in Grover Beach,Ca. I've only needed to take my laptop in to Ben's once, when it was experiencing heat issues. They took care of it no problem, though it cost a little more than I was expecting. However, the heat issue has not resurfaced and it has been several months, so I would say that the money spent was well worth it. I know almost nothing about my laptop but rely on it for almost everything, so when it started to be "glitchy" and perform excruciatingly slowly, I knew I needed help but didn't know where to bring my baby. I kept passing by Ben's in my neighborhood, but I also kept thinking that a costly repair was not in my budget, and also that I could not survive a day without my computer. A quick call allayed my fears -- the owner quoted me $39.99 for a diagnostic, and also said that if the machine needed repairs, this fee would be applied towards labor. He also told me that he performs same-day service, but I was calling only two hours before close-of-business. I brought my machine in and Ben was able to speedily diagnose and address the (thankfully!) straightforward issue. As he worked, he explained to me in layperson terms what he was doing and why. He was patient with all of my questions and gave me easy-to-follow advice for upkeep so that I can keep my machine running well. Clearly, he runs his business with the goal of really serving customers so that we will be pleased and return. I was out the door in about 25 minutes for $39.99, and, while I hope I don't have to for a while, I would definitely go back! read more

BEN'S IS A FIVE STAR HOME RUN! First off, Ben is a super nice super friendly guy that I liked instantly. He listened to my problem, a touch pad on my HP laptop that I couldn't disable after Norton removed what seemed to be a pesky little virus. He said he'd look at my laptop within half an hour, quoted me the basic look-see rate, and said he'd call me if it was more than a simple fix. He called me within minutes. Turns out the virus wasn't little or pesky. Turns out when Norton removed the virus, the virus took chunks of Windows with it. Since I always use an external mouse, Ben permanently disabled the touch pad for just a few dollars more than the look-see price, and my laptop works just the way I want it to work. All this took less than an hour. More ... Ben said I could bring my laptop back and leave it with him if I wanted him to spend serious time repairing and/or reinstalling Windows. I thought what a good guy. He could have said you have a big problem, fixed the big problem, and charged me a big price, all so that a touch pad I never use worked. Don't you wish everyone was this nice, this friendly, this good at his job, and this honest? I live 2-1/2 hours away but I'm in Grover Beach almost every 6 weeks so when I need a computer fix again, I'm coming back to Ben's! Thank you thank you thank you! read more

If you are anywhere on the Central Coast its worth the drive to Ben's! His professionalism and knowledge are why everyone trusts his work and ability. His customer service is outstanding and why I would continue to rely on Ben! He has true compassion for his customer and will not over charge on any project. My laptop stopped working so I took it in to Ben. The diagnosis was not good. I went to purchase a replacement computer... I bring this new purchase to Ben to transfer all my info. Well this computer was just terrible ... I know very little about computers! I take this dud back and picked out a new "better" option. I get this home and there is a dead pixel. During this whole process I call Ben who gives me endless encouragement and advice on finding the best computer for my needs. What to stay away from and what to look for. Third times a charm ...
