Took friends to Bada Bing last night, a first for all of us. BIG mistake. Waitress: indifferent with a big ATTITUDE. She should have stayed home; we wished we had, too. Food: mediocre -- pasta fagiolo very salty; fried calamari was tasteless and rubbery; chicken Marsala very sweet; chicken parm and ziti were so-so. The garlic knots were yum-yum; the restaurant might consider closing down and reopening as a bakery to focus on those. This place does offer quantity, but if you are looking for quality, "Fuhgeddaboudit." read more

I was on vacation looking for a local pizza place to try. The reviews were pretty good so I tried Benny's. I had a medium margarita pizza and garlic knots delivered. Everything was cold, and all the food was unfortunately just edible. The pizza lacked cheese (some pieces had no cheese) and the sauce tasted like it was out of a jar. The guy on the phone and delivery guy were very nice but it did not make up for the food. I would tell you to skip this place. read more

Well, this was my third time here, on vacation Let's start with the pasta fajoul (soup) was close to perfect. Lots of cheese, and small white beans, and pasta. Very good favors, and, piping hot, which to me is important. My wife had muscles and white sauce with pasta in the juice. She rated it as very good. I had a Caesar salad, no anchovies, yet great flavor. And I had pasta with Italian cut up bacon, peas with a garlic sauce with cream type sauce. Excellent. I had a 1/2 carafe of ok merlot, and two pino noir that was better. The whole bill was less than $70. Now what makes this place suburb is the family that owns and operates the restaurant. They circulate amongst the guests. Maybe 10 tables for 4 or so. Benny and his five adult kids. He's a veteran, and a true New Yorker Italian American, which to me makes this place so good. Just had dinner here tonight. Owner is very friendly and he has lots of stories to tell customers. Chicken noodle soup was homemade and delicious. The chicken Marsala was the best I have tasted - rich in flavor. The baked Ziti was a huge portion filled with grind meat and lots of cheese. No room for desert so we will be back again to try them. First visit impressions: Small place. Big flavor. Spaghetti and meat sauce for me. Dinner mate tried the cheesesteak. Pies looked FANTASTIC. Will DEFINITELY return for one of those. Friendly service. Longer-than-average wait for food, but WELL worth it as food arrived piping hot. We love this little family owned and operated restaurant! We've never had a bad meal- and we always have friendly and attentive service! Tonight was no exception- this place has maybe 10 tables and the family is actually serving you. Our server was Michael and he was the owners grandson. He couldn't have been more sweet and friendly and attentive. The owner Benny was actually cooking and told me the chicken francese was a great choice- he did not disappoint! We also asked for broccoli in lieu of pasta- and seriously- it was cooked and seasoned so perfectly. The other owner (the wife) told us how it was made. The garlic knots are to die for, they've also been voted Best pizza in Venice, FL - which is awesome for Florida pizza! Coming from Chicago- we are picky about pizza and Italian food in general ! The meatballs are excellent and the sauce is perfect- not too salty- not too over seasoned. You can just tell this place is run with a love of food and we love that it's truly a family business and we appreciate this intimate little place! Finally after moving from NY to FL we were told, this is the place to go for authentic pizza. Sadly we were very disappointed. The pie was flavorless with a pastry dough. My Italian wife had to use a knife and fork for the first time in her life when eating this flavorless pepperoni and mushroom pie. To be fair the owner and waitress were friendly. Feb 28 Very disappointed, A simple request to remove the tails from the shrimp for a scampi dish so I would not have to handle butter soaked shrimp. The reply was no cut them off with your knife. We have taken guests there from out of town for the last time, we will not return. read more

5 stars because, what's not to like?! I'm from out of town but this is one of the best Italians restaurants I've ever been to. Honestly, it's more an Italian joint but it's just another thing to like. The food and service is excellent and that's what counts. Our server was Mariah and she was absolutely delightful. Let me just say, they make their own bread. The best part was I ordered the Mussels Fra Diavlo and I can honestly say I've never seen so many mussels in 1 bowl before. And the bowl was BIG. AMAZING!!! We live out of state and don't get to visit Venice very often. We happened upon it two years ago On our first visit and was amazingly surprised at how good this place is. The place is small and if you want to dine in, calling in ahead of time is a must. This was our second visit. We have been talking about going back for two years, ever since we discovered it. I was a little worried that we remembered it better than it actually was. But I was pleasantly satisfied that it was just as good, if not better than the first visit two years ago. Having grown up in San Francisco and Daly City, and having access to Toto's Pizza, I tend to be picky about my pizzas. Benny's Bad Bing is awesome, and every bit as good, if not better than the afore-mentioned haunt of my younger years. Phenomenal crusts, not too thin, not too thick. Plenty of sauce and whatever toppings you order, quick service, good prices, and a totally friendly New York'ish atmosphere. It's not fancy, but doesn't need to be. The selections are vast, as are the pasta choices. Salads are amazing too. And again, as a former San Franciscan (we live in Venice, FL), it became painfully clear as soon as we moved here that for some unknown reason, SALAMI (like real Italian Dry Salami - Columbus, Gallo ... ) were almost non-existant. Bada Bing has it, and of course I always get it. I've even ordered my favorite "Toto's #2" (salami, sausage, and mushroom) there, and it turned out great. Highly recommended. read more

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS. Never in my life have I been treated so poorly. The owners daughter treated me like a gum on the bottom of her shoe. Her attitude started the minute we got on the phone with her. When I arrived to pick the order up, she threw the pen and receipt across the counter at me and walked away with the nastiest look on her face. When I told her that's not how you treat customers, she told me "it wasn't her problem" and started raising her voice and yelling at me when I asked for a manager. She told me there is no manager running the place. IT SHOWS. A good manager would apologize for the behavior and not antagonize it's customers just because we changed our order from delivery to pick up. The owners son came over to us and instead of apologizing for how we were being treated, he had the audacity to ask us to leave because there were paying customers eating. I pointed out that I had just purchased $50 of pizza, and am a paying customer myself!! As someone who works in the customer service industry, this was absolutely unbelievable behavior. Since I know she's the owners daughter, I know nothing will be done and because of that, I know her nasty attitude will run this business into the ground. Not to mention the pizza sucks. read more

Absolutely the best NY style Italian food in the region, bar none. I fail to comprehend the complaints, and must assume the reviewers had perhaps visited the wrong restaurant. To aid those misguided few, this review section is for Benny's Bada Bing, in Venice, on Highway 41. I wish I could express with some alacrity the number of visits my family and I have enjoyed, if to only establish a proven and detailed history of experiences. I lost count. I'm originally from New Jersey, so I appreciate what I used to garner frequently, and have been unsuccessful at attaining in many years. I have brought countless friends (including NJ/NY Italians) who, as you might surmise, expect the best. None left disappointed. The pizza is astounding. Benny Jr. is a masterful artist with dough and an oven. It doesn't hurt that the sauce they use is just the craziest, best sauce (gravy) I've had. I buy it by the jar to use as a bread dip at home. The calzones are hearty; I've yet to be able to finish one in a sitting. Tip: they are great for breakfast the next day. The entrees are equally hearty and just so darn good. I am certain Benny Sr. put's some crack in the broccoli rabe, it's that good. The same for the mussels; there's something in there that just screams at the taste buds. Love the carbonara, alfredo, and the alla vodka, but I really do force myself to get red sauce dishes (and risk my shirt cleanliness) simply for that sauce. I've only had half the chicken dishes and a third of the seafood, but none have failed to deliver on the expectations I now have for everything served. My wife judges all Italian restaurants by the spaghetti and meatballs. It's a fair litmus test; if someone can't get that right, chances are they won't have much success elsewhere. We searched high and low, and ultimately found Benny's through their family bagel place in Sarasota where we live. Yeah, we make that drive as often as we can, and this is the ONLY place we will go. Needless to say my wife was impressed and delighted with her initial foray into the culinary delights offered at Benny's. We even like the salads; the extra touch of slices olives, it's all about the details. Somehow I missed something. For all of our visits, I never tried the soups, so finally I gave the pasta fagioli a shot. Wow. You can't help but like the family too. I know I only mentioned Benny and his son, but they are all great and they treat us like family when we're there. I am trying not to make this a long-winded diatribe, but some things cannot be helped. I am convinced they can't make a bad dish. I only hope with the cameras and fame seekers we'll be able to get in, because it's the food (and the family) that matters. read more
